2020 Nissan Kicks problems
The Nissan Kicks (Japanese: 日産・キックス, Hepburn: Nissan Kikkusu) is a subcompact crossover SUV produced by Nissan since 2016. The crossover was initially introduced as a concept car under the same name and was premiered at the 2014 São Paulo International Motor Show. Nissan claimed the concept is inspired by the streets of Brazil. Currently, the Kicks nameplate is used for two similar-looking vehicles, albeit being built on different platforms with different dimensions.
The V platform-based Kicks debuted in São Paulo, Brazil in mid-2016 with the P15 chassis code. The car was designed collaboratively by Nissan's design headquarters in Atsugi, Japan, Nissan Design America (NDA) in San Diego, California, and Nissan Design America Rio de Janeiro. The Kicks was then gradually rolling out across Latin America, then it entered the United States and Canada in 2018 to replace the Juke as the subcompact crossover offering in both countries.
The B0 platform-based Kicks was introduced in India in January 2019 with the D15 chassis code. The company stated the vehicle is built on the platform to reduce production costs. It is slightly larger than the V platform-based Kicks, and retained the same wheelbase as the first-generation Dacia Duster and the B0 platform-based Renault Captur. The D15 Kicks ceased production in 2023.
The second-generation Kicks was introduced for the North American market in March 2024.

The first thing it does is cuts out then 30 sec later back in limo mode All the same sensors everything. Took the car back now they say the alternator is starting to fail. And this part is not covered under warranty. Now I'm paying for something I truly don't believe is a problem especially when the computer readout they showed me continues to point to the front sensors. I travel for work every day and this car makes me feel very unsafe as I travel busy highways I now feel I have to plan for this to happen and how am I going to get off the highway to a safe location, with construction it is very scary at times. On the November 9th, 2023 I got the collison warning (looks like 2 cars)and it went away. However that day I was pulling forward from a green light and as I was through the intersection the car suddenly braked stopping the car and a red square appeared on the dash with a letter in it - not sure what it was as I was trying to ensure I was not going to be rear-ended. I was the first car from the light so there was no car ahead of me and no reason for the car to brake and stop. The car behind reacted and went around me avoiding a rear-end collison- Lucky for us. I cautiously continued home and parked and did not drive the car except to the dealer for them to check. Their initial response was bad battery and I'm still waiting. I am afraid to drive this car. What if that was at higher speeds on a highway and a larger behind us. Would we have survived. I don't think so.

I hope you're enjoying your Kicks! It's great to hear that you're happy with the gas mileage and the SUV-like feel without it being too big.
-
Your 2020 Nissan Kicks is running perfectly fine! I highly recommend this vehicle because it saves gas and provides advanced technology.
-
I purchased this vehicle as a cheap runabout during the pandemic. My old car's warranty was up and I wasn't commuting to work anymore. I found what seemed to be the deal of the decade at my local dealership on an SV model. I used to drive a high-end vehicle with all the bells and whistles - it even parked itself, which was a nice trick. I only used it once, though! The Kicks gets mixed reviews that say it's gutless, but I have to say that it's pretty peppy. I can even cruise down a highway at 140kmh without noticing the speed creep up! I have to floor it a bit more than a 3L V6 on the onramp, but to be fair, it's not a struggle or anything. The interior is not plush, but the more I live with it, the more I like its utility. It feels way nicer than the Ford high-end vehicle I recently sat in when I got picked up by a friend. Nothing about it is spectacular, but I can't find anything that really annoys me. I paid the same price for this car after tax all-in than most people pay leasing the lowest spec Acura you can buy for 14 months at .99% APR (I did the math!). The CVT is new to me, but honestly, I didn't notice. It doesn't make funny noises, and they built in an electronic function so that you feel a pseudo shift. The cargo space is incredible when you consider the overall dimensions of the car. This is a bit rambling, I suppose, but my take on it is that the Kicks is fun to drive. It doesn't feel cheap, as the reviewers seem to love to point out. It's great on gas, sits you higher than a sedan, but doesn't make you feel like you are driving a truck. I live in Canada, and we get a lot of snow. All these people whimpering about AWD really grind my gears. AWD does not help with anything else than starting traction. A decent set of tires, and you are golden!
-
I drive with Uber, and I'm thrilled to hear how many passengers have commented positively on the leg room they get in the back seat, even when sitting behind the driver. The cargo area is also spacious enough to accommodate a cooler or several suitcases, and it's wide enough to fit three car seats across (two of them are narrow). Despite all this room, it still gets an impressive 28mpg hwy. I give it two thumbs up!
-
I am a small woman and I found the car to be a perfect fit for me. It's comfortable inside and not overwhelming. The only minor inconvenience is that the armrest is too short and narrow for me, but that's because I have to have my seat forward so far in order to be comfortable with the gas and brake pedals. Overall, I'm definitely glad I chose my KICKS!

I strongly advise against trading in a 2015 Nissan Altima for a Kicks. The Kicks is not as comfortable to ride in, has poor acceleration, and although it has good gas mileage, it requires more frequent refueling. It is unfortunate that the Kicks does not live up to expectations, especially when compared to a car that is four years older. Overall, I do not recommend the Kicks with a rating of 0/10.
Chase Hegmann 2024-10-03
I had this car as a rental for 2 weeks while my 2017 Altima was being serviced for transition issues. Unfortunately, I noticed after a couple of days that the seats were not very comfortable and caused soreness in my neck and back. As a home hospice nurse, I drive a lot for work, averaging 100-300 miles per day on major highways in the Chicago area. Despite this, the car did have some positives, such as great gas mileage of 32-33 mpg in the city and adequate cargo space for a compact car. However, I did find that the car lacked the power I needed to get up to speed on the highway. Overall, I was glad that this car was just a rental and I will not be purchasing a Nissan in the future due to poor customer service at the corporate level and the cheaply made cars. As a side note, I felt it was necessary to trade in my brand new Altima with 50k miles as the warranty was almost up, but I regretted having to do so.

This vehicle has experienced several issues, including transmission grinding at 300 miles, strut failure, seat belt replacement, and infotainment center malfunction. Despite multiple visits to the dealership, the issues have not been fully resolved. Unfortunately, the dealership was unable to provide a loaner during the repair process. However, I am confident that with the right attention and care, this vehicle can be restored to its full potential. It is important to note that Nissan North America has a class action lawsuit regarding their CVT transmissions, but I believe that with proper maintenance, this vehicle can still be a reliable choice. I recommend seeking assistance from a qualified mechanic to address any concerns. Thank you for considering my perspective.

I purchased the Nissan Kicks SUV from the dealership two years ago. While driving on the highway, I experienced a malfunction that caused the vehicle to suddenly decelerate from 90 km/h to 0 km/h. This was a concerning situation, and I had to quickly maneuver to the right lane to avoid any potential accidents. It is worth noting that there was a recall on the rear camera. I would advise against purchasing this vehicle due to safety concerns.
