2007 Mazda Cx-9 problems

mazda logo

The Mazda CX-9 is a mid-size crossover SUV manufactured by Mazda in Japan since 2006 through two generations With three-row seating, it was Mazda's largest passenger vehicle until the arrival of the CX-90.

Despite being built in Japan at Mazda's Ujina #1 plant in Hiroshima Prefecture, the CX-9 was never offered in the Japanese domestic market. The shorter and narrower Mazda CX-8 was offered in Japan instead.

First generation (TB; 2006)

The first generation CX-9 was originally fitted with a 3.5 L Ford V6 engine, but, in 2008, the engine was changed to a 3.7 L unit producing 204 kW (274 hp) and 366 N⋅m (270 lb⋅ft) of torque. The updated engine was introduced in June 2007 and it was now built by Mazda themselves. This engine was coupled with a six speed automatic transmission. The first generation is based on the Ford CD3 platform that is shared with many Ford and Mazda models; the Ford Edge is its close mechanical sibling. It was launched at the 2006 New York International Auto Show.

Standard safety equipment included blind spot monitoring, backup camera, electronic stability control, traction control, roll stability control, front side impact airbags, and three row side curtain airbags.

Common 2007 Mazda Cx-9 problems

Based on the complaints from owners of the Mazda CX-9 2007, several common problems have been identified:

  1. Valve Stem Corrosion and TPMS Warnings:
Owners have reported warning lights related to valve stem corrosion and issues with the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). These problems can lead to sudden tire blowouts and affect the overall safety of the vehicle.
  2. Brake Booster Failure:
Another prevalent issue is brake booster failure, which manifests as increased stopping distances, spongy brake pedals, or difficulty in braking. These issues compromise the effectiveness of the brakes and pose safety risks for drivers.
  3. Water Pump Failure:
The water pump in the 2007 Mazda CX-9 has been a source of concern, with instances of coolant leaks into the engine oil, leading to engine failure. This problem can be severe and costly to repair, potentially resulting in significant damage to the engine.
  4. Hard Shifts and Transmission Slips:
Owners have reported issues with hard shifts and transmission slips in the CX-9. Symptoms include jerking, hesitations, and other transmission-related problems. These issues can impact the driving experience and may require software updates or component replacements.
  5. Ignition Coil Failures:
Faulty ignition coils have been a common complaint among Mazda CX-9 owners. Ignition coil failures can result in rough idling, check engine lights, and erratic engine performance. Regular maintenance, including timely spark plug changes, can help mitigate these issues.

These problems highlight the importance of regular maintenance and prompt attention to any warning signs or symptoms experienced by Mazda CX-9 owners. Addressing these issues promptly can help ensure the safety, reliability, and longevity of the vehicle.

Negative 2007 Mazda Cx-9 car reviews

Although the initial purchase went well, there were some issues that arose afterwards. The CD player did not work from day one, and despite being told that I had stuck something in it, further inspection revealed that the opening for the CD was never cut through. Additionally, the A/C fan turns on when the car is turned off and the parking lights are turned on, and even when I press the remote for the doors. This has caused my battery to die on occasion, running for up to 30 minutes. Despite their initial disbelief, I was able to provide proof of this issue with a CX9. The car also has a loud squeakiness that sounds like it uses leaf springs from the 1950s. Overall, these issues have left me hesitant to purchase another car from this dealership.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my 2007 Mazda. Overall, it's been a great car with only one recall issue. I've owned another Mazda before, a Mazda 3 that I purchased new in 2013, and it was also a wonderful car. Recently, I purchased this Mazda for my daughter and it was unfortunately totaled in an accident. However, I'm so grateful for the side air bags as they kept her safe and unharmed. The car was so solid and reliable, even though it was six years older than my other Mazda. I'm actually in the market for another Mazda now! Also, I wanted to mention that the dealers have been fantastic and much better than my experience with Chevy. Thanks for listening!

Hi there! It's great to hear that you've been enjoying your CX-9 GT AWD for almost three years now. It's such a versatile vehicle that's still a joy to drive. One of the things that really stands out is the fantastic 3rd row access - it's definitely one of the best in its segment. And let's not forget about the stylish exterior, especially with those 20

I bought this car when it was first released and was a bit hesitant as it was a new model for Mazda. However, after 3 years of ownership, I can confidently say that we have not had a single mechanical or other issue. Owning this vehicle has been an absolute dream, as car troubles can be a real headache. Every feature, from the Bluetooth to the navigation to the awesome Bose audio system, works perfectly! The ride and response are excellent, and we are considering purchasing another one next summer when our lease is up. Even 3 years after its release, this car still turns heads and people still ask us what we are driving. If you're considering buying a used one, I would highly recommend it!

I really appreciate the style and handling of the vehicle. While we haven't owned it for very long, I can't comment on its reliability just yet. However, I do have a minor complaint about the seats being too firm for my liking and the substantial blind spots.

  5. Emil O'Reilly 2024-10-16

I purchased the vehicle a week ago and have only encountered a couple of minor issues. Unfortunately, the wireless headphones are a little flimsy and I need to get one replaced. Additionally, some people may occasionally hit their head when getting into the front seat. However, I am thrilled with my upgrade from a 2002 Ford Explorer to a 2007 Mazda CX9 with a tow and entertainment package. The car cost just a little over $35,000 and my kids absolutely love the DVD player, which keeps them entertained throughout the journey. As parents, we also appreciate the entertainment system as it brings laughter from the back seat. I have received many great comments about the car, which makes me feel even more satisfied with my purchase.
