2018 Nissan Kicks problems
The Nissan Kicks (Japanese: 日産・キックス, Hepburn: Nissan Kikkusu) is a subcompact crossover SUV produced by Nissan since 2016. The crossover was initially introduced as a concept car under the same name and was premiered at the 2014 São Paulo International Motor Show. Nissan claimed the concept is inspired by the streets of Brazil. Currently, the Kicks nameplate is used for two similar-looking vehicles, albeit being built on different platforms with different dimensions.
The V platform-based Kicks debuted in São Paulo, Brazil in mid-2016 with the P15 chassis code. The car was designed collaboratively by Nissan's design headquarters in Atsugi, Japan, Nissan Design America (NDA) in San Diego, California, and Nissan Design America Rio de Janeiro. The Kicks was then gradually rolling out across Latin America, then it entered the United States and Canada in 2018 to replace the Juke as the subcompact crossover offering in both countries.
The B0 platform-based Kicks was introduced in India in January 2019 with the D15 chassis code. The company stated the vehicle is built on the platform to reduce production costs. It is slightly larger than the V platform-based Kicks, and retained the same wheelbase as the first-generation Dacia Duster and the B0 platform-based Renault Captur. The D15 Kicks ceased production in 2023.
The second-generation Kicks was introduced for the North American market in March 2024.

Common 2018 Nissan Kicks problems
The 2018 Nissan Kicks has been reported to have several common problems, primarily related to its electrical system.
Another electrical issue reported by Nissan Kicks owners is the random illumination of multiple warning lights, including the forward collision warning light, often for no apparent reason.
In addition to these electrical problems, some Nissan Kicks owners have reported issues with the rear view camera, including blurry images and the camera not displaying an image at all.
There have also been reports of the vehicle stalling randomly, which has been linked to incorrect Engine Control Module (ECM) calibration and a bad mass air flow sensor or low battery.
While there are not too many mechanical problems reported for the 2018 Nissan Kicks, there are concerns about the longevity of the CVT transmission and the potential expense of replacing it if it fails.

SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-19
- VIN: 3N1CP5CU8JL
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: ABS system warning light turns on and off, and ABS fails after 50,000 miles on vehicle. System requires ABS actuator replacement, but replacement isn't reliable. Nissan has been contacted and refused to acknowledge issue or offer assistance with issue. This has been an issue in ALL Nissan Kicks and Leaf models dating back to 2018 and through current models. I believe a recall should be instated for this problem because multiple cars could potentially be driving without their ABS systems active. This could lead to poor ability to stop in inclement weather and could lead to more accidents on highways. The lights randomly turning off could mislead drivers into thinking that nothing is wrong with their vehicles. Upon first inspection at local Nissan dealership they reported no problem but loose battery terminal.

- Summary: Driver side coil spring broke near the lower part of the spring, spring was still seated and operating but rubbing on strut. There was no way to tell that the spring was broken other than the fact that I found the broken piece laying on the ground - so we immediately took it to Nissan to be repaired. This is the second coil spring to break - the passenger spring broke at the same location at around 46,000 miles - again no way to tell that the spring was broken other than the fact that I had visually inspected the car and noticed the spring broken. This is the exact same issue we had with our 2012 Nissan Versa - both coil springs within 60,000 miles - however Nissan did issue a recall for those parts.

The vehicle would not move, and had shut down completely. After getting the vehicle back on the road, I had my sales team drop it off at Nissan in Russellville, AR. It has since been seen 3 separate times for the same forward collision sensor malfunction. It will not drive, and I feel very unsafe with this vehicle on the road.

POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-09-23
- VIN: 3N1CP5CU8JL
- Components: POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
- Summary: Here I am for a 3rd time reporting an issue with this car. After work I went to get in my car. I could not turn it on, I was not able to push the brake and a lot of lights came on. I decided it needed jumped so I got jumped. The next day I remote start the car and see it did not turn on. So I went out to start it and it once again didnt start. I jumped it again. I then decided it needed a new battery as it was the original to the car. I went to batteries plus and the guy was not even sure how I managed to jump it as it was completely drained. He mentioned something about the alternator. The one I just had replaced a year ago for my car stopping on me at speeds of 50+. He recommended me not to drive it and get it towed to a dealership. He tested my alternator and said it is not testing where is should. I had a tow truck driver follow me to South Colorado Springs Nissan. I took it in they said the battery test (brand new battery that was only hours old) and my alternator both failed testing. They then let me car sit over the weekend and of course its acting normal now. Clearly something is triggering the alternator to fail quickly as I had just got this one replaced a year ago. That needs to be looked into more. They didn't find anything and sent me on my way. The photos attached are from the 2 years worth of problems I have had.

I tried to get it into a Nissan Services center, and I have to wait until the end of next week to have it checked out. This vehicle is a death trap.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-05-02
- VIN: 3N1CP5CU7JL
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Back on 2021. My children and I were in a Starbucks Drive through, as we were waiting in line. As the car in front of us stopped, I press on the brake petal to stop and the vehicle began to shake and I noticed the idle meter was moving up and down, then suddenly our car stalled. Everything was lighting up but the engine stop. I put the gear on park then I pressed the Engine On button then the car started. After that everytime I press on the brake it does the same thing. I am afraid to drive the car far away because everytime I stopped on a stop light for certain amount of time, the car seem to show the same symptom, where first it shakes then the idle begins to move up and down again. It places me and my children at a very dangerous risk whenever the car stalls on the left lane of a stop light or any other stop signs. And it is scary if other driver doesn’t see our vehicle at night. The other problem with the car is whenever I shift the gear to either Park, Drive or Reverse. I have to firmly press on the brake for the gear to change or move also whenever the gear change we hear a loud noise underneath the vehicle.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-02-26
- VIN: 3N1CP5CU3JL

Nissan says it’s functioning properly even though there is a forum of people with same issue.

I bought my son a Nissan Kicks for his 17th birthday and he really loves it! The only thing is that it doesn't have a lot of power, which is a bit of a bummer for my son and me. But overall, we still love it!

I purchased my 2018 Nissan Kicks in September of that year and have only put a few thousand miles on it. Unfortunately, I had to take it in for service shortly after purchasing it and was disappointed to find out that all they did was reset the computer. I also received multiple emails from the dealership after my visit, which was frustrating. Now, I am experiencing issues with the key ignition system and have to spend a full Saturday at the dealership to troubleshoot the problem. Despite these issues, I do appreciate the car's great mileage, zippy ride, and good stereo. However, I would recommend finding a dealership with better service reps. I have had some negative experiences with Nissani Brothers in Culver City, California. Although I like the car, I wouldn't purchase it again due to the lack of a reputable dealer near me.

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I noticed that my 2018 Kicks had a spot on the left front side panel last year, but not on the right side. I brought it to the dealer in Montreal and the mechanic took some pictures. He suggested that it might be the soap or cloth I'm using, but I assured him that I use a cloth specifically for my car and I go to a hand wash since I'm scared to go to the car wash. When I went to put on my summer tires, I spoke with the service manager and he promised to call me back after taking a look at the pictures. I also mentioned to him that I was curious why the spot was only on that side and not on the rest of the body. I'm still waiting for his call, but I'm hopeful that we can get this resolved soon. Thank you for your time and have a great day!

I took my vehicle in to have the window and door seals checked due to air leaks. The dealership informed me that this is a common issue with this vehicle and unfortunately, there was nothing they could do about it. They mentioned that they are making cuts where they can. I previously owned a Kia Rio and never had any issues with it, but unfortunately, it had too many miles for long trips. In hindsight, I should have stuck with getting a new Kia. I have learned my lesson and there will be no future Nissans for this household!

We are the Nissan family and I have owned Nissans since the zx 240. We strongly considered the Kicks based on its price/functionality proportion, but after trying it, we ultimately went with the Sentra. The transmission was a major concern for me, as it was made in China and that was a deal breaker. I have had negative experiences in the past with GM vehicles that had Chinese engines and other components, and I would not even wish it on my enemies. While I might consider a mirror made in China or a part of upholstery to be okay, I would never knowingly put a part made in China into my engine, transmission, steering, or suspension.

I purchased my 2018 Nissan Kicks SR with only 3 miles on it. Unfortunately, I have experienced a few issues with the car. The air conditioner was blowing hot air, but after taking it in for service, they discovered a major defect and replaced it. The brakes started squeaking within 4 months, and it turned out they were defective, resulting in a month-long wait for parts and replacement of all the brakes. The radio went completely black, but it was a recall issue that was fixed. However, it turned out that the radio was also defective, so it was replaced. Currently, there is another strange squeaking sound, but the dealership was unable to replicate it. Despite these issues, I am hopeful that the dealership will continue to work with me to resolve any problems. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Despite my initial love for my brand new Nissan Kicks, I have unfortunately experienced a number of issues with the vehicle. From a grinding noise coming from underneath the front of the car, to a sudden blackout of the touchscreen, I have had to take my Kicks back to the dealership service department multiple times. Despite their efforts, the issues have persisted and I am now considering trading in the vehicle. As a confident car owner, I know that these issues are not acceptable and I am taking action to ensure that I have a reliable vehicle that meets my needs.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share some feedback about my 2018 Nissan Kicks. While it's generally been a good car, I have noticed a couple of issues. Specifically, the gas meter doesn't always read accurately - even when I have a full tank, it sometimes says I only have 188 miles to empty. Additionally, the collision warning light seems to come on quite frequently, even when there aren't any other cars nearby. Have you experienced anything similar?
