2022 Nissan Kicks problems

The Nissan Kicks (Japanese: 日産・キックス, Hepburn: Nissan Kikkusu) is a subcompact crossover SUV produced by Nissan since 2016. The crossover was initially introduced as a concept car under the same name and was premiered at the 2014 São Paulo International Motor Show. Nissan claimed the concept is inspired by the streets of Brazil. Currently, the Kicks nameplate is used for two similar-looking vehicles, albeit being built on different platforms with different dimensions.

The V platform-based Kicks debuted in São Paulo, Brazil in mid-2016 with the P15 chassis code. The car was designed collaboratively by Nissan's design headquarters in Atsugi, Japan, Nissan Design America (NDA) in San Diego, California, and Nissan Design America Rio de Janeiro. The Kicks was then gradually rolling out across Latin America, then it entered the United States and Canada in 2018 to replace the Juke as the subcompact crossover offering in both countries.

The B0 platform-based Kicks was introduced in India in January 2019 with the D15 chassis code. The company stated the vehicle is built on the platform to reduce production costs. It is slightly larger than the V platform-based Kicks, and retained the same wheelbase as the first-generation Dacia Duster and the B0 platform-based Renault Captur. The D15 Kicks ceased production in 2023.

The second-generation Kicks was introduced for the North American market in March 2024.

Common 2022 Nissan Kicks problems

The Nissan Kicks, a compact SUV model introduced in 2016, has been a popular choice for those looking for a fuel-efficient and feature-rich vehicle. However, as with any car, there have been some common issues reported by owners.

One of the most frequently reported problems with the Nissan Kicks is a clicking sound coming from the instrument cluster. This issue has been reported by owners of various model years, including the 2022 model. The cause of this problem is not yet clear, but it can be quite distracting and may require the attention of a Nissan dealership.

Another issue that has been reported by owners of the Nissan Kicks is front collision sensor failure. This problem can lead to unexpected braking or a failure to detect obstacles in front of the vehicle. This issue has been reported by owners of various model years, including the 2022 model. It is important to note that this issue can affect the safety of the vehicle, and it is recommended that owners have it addressed as soon as possible.

In addition to the above issues, some owners of the Nissan Kicks have reported that the vehicle can suddenly shut off while moving. This issue has been reported by owners of various model years, including the 2022 model. The cause of this problem is not yet clear, but it can be quite dangerous and requires immediate attention.

Another issue that has been reported by some owners of the 2022 Nissan Kicks is a discrepancy in the performance of the driver-side windshield washer dispenser. Specifically, some owners have reported that the driver-side dispenser shoots the fluid lower than the passenger-side dispenser. This issue has not been reported by a large number of owners, but it can affect visibility and safety while driving.

Some owners of the 2022 Nissan Kicks have also reported issues with the climate control system. Specifically, some owners have reported that the system can be inconsistent in its performance, with the temperature changing unexpectedly or not responding to changes in the settings. This issue has not been reported by a large number of owners, but it can affect comfort and convenience while driving.

While the 2022 Nissan Kicks has received generally positive reviews, these common issues are worth considering for those in the market for a compact SUV. It is recommended that potential buyers research the vehicle thoroughly, including its reliability ratings and any known issues, before making a purchase. Additionally, it is important to maintain the vehicle properly and address any issues as soon as they arise to ensure safe and reliable operation.

Are there any issues with the Nissan Kicks?

This year, Nissan issued a recall that affects around 12,000 Kicks SUVs and Versa sedans over a defective component affecting the electronic power steering system. The manufacturer has communicated that specific 2021 Kicks and Versa models may experience a loss of assistance from the EPS system.

Does the 2022 Nissan Kicks have transmission problems?

If you don't routinely and regularly change your fluids at least every 30,000 miles or so, you may find that your 2022 Nissan Kicks transmission will promptly slip.

What is the weakness of the Nissan Kicks?

The Nissan Kicks platform has been indirectly inspired by Logan's platform of 2006-07. This is a very old platform for a 2019 car. NVH levels and hardening of the clutch are obvious issues here.

Is Nissan Kicks a reliable vehicle?

We expect the 2024 Kicks to have about average reliability when compared to other new cars. This prediction is based on similar models, plus the Nissan brand scores.

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-03-01
  • VIN: 3N1CP5BV2NL
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: Driving down the highway when the car shut down in the middle of the freeway. I was able to get to the shoulder before the vehicle completely shut down and would not restart. I had it towed to a shop and upon further investigation the motor had blown up. One of the pistons only had 20% pressure. The car doesn't even have 70k miles on it and the motor is completely gone in it.

STRUCTURE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-05-27
  • VIN: 3N1CP5DV4NL
  • Components: STRUCTURE
  • Summary: The hood flew open unexpectedly while driving on the highway causing significant damage. No lights or indicators appeared on dashboard. Car has 9,000 miles and Nissan is currently doing an investigation with inspection on car June 20, 2024.

STEERING,SUSPENSION,WHEELS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-08-17
  • VIN: 3N1CP5BV2NL
  • Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION,WHEELS
  • Summary: I bought a brand new Kicks Sport S that was delivered to me with 231 miles on it. It ran great but when driving on the Interstate when a slight crosswind kicked up the vehicle steering was almost unmanageable. It was difficult keeping the vehicle on the road below the posted speed with only 5 -10 mile winds. Tire inflation was proper and everything worked great until there was even the slightest wind. I traded the car in at under 4000 miles due to this fact since it was not safe to drive and took a $10,000 loss only months after purchase and paid in full at the time of purchase. This is the biggest scam for a vehicle and should not be on the road they are dangerous and sorry but after losing almost a year's income on this vehicle I wish I had never seen one of them much less bought one. Very unsafe people will end up dying buying this vehicle. I would not put my children or grandkids in this car if there was any wind whatsoever nor would i ever ride in one with any wind ever again.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-11-01
  • VIN: 3N1CP5DV3NL
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: While inflating the tires up to the recommended pressure, due to the low temperatures overnight, I noticed that the right front rotor had multiple cracks running on the bridges between the holes on the brake rotors. There where no indications other than the Low Tire Pressure warning indicator. I have a picture of this on the Vehicle. Knowing this could lead to a brake failure and or crash!

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-03-23
  • VIN: 3N1CP5DV5NL
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: The contact owns a 2022 Nissan Kicks. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The contact was unable to pull to the side of the road. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and continued driving. The contact stated that the failure recurred while driving. An unknown warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000.

STEERING,SUSPENSION,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-10-28
  • VIN: 3N1CP5BV2NL
  • Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: Not sure what causes this failure in the Kicks but if there is any wind at all when driving over 45 mph and/or traveling on a Highway, Interstate the steering becomes super sloppy and the car is difficult to control and maintain lanes in moderate wind conditions. You have to grip the steering wheel hard and fight to maintain your lane in the wind or pull off until the wind is under 10 mph. It is a serious hazard to occupants and anyone else on the road. All systems were in line and the vehicle only had between 800 - 1000 miles on it, tire pressure was good and all systems were good - the kicks should not be driven in any weather-related conditions. It was so bad I took a $10k loss on the vehicle with under 6000 miles and traded it in within less than 6 months of purchase. I am on a fixed income so this was a huge expense and not an easy choice to lose that kind of money but it was better than the alternative and trying to drive it in the wind. Please investigate the Kicks before someone dies from this problem. Of note I have a friend with a Versa that looks a lot like the Kicks that has the same problem - her solution if there is any wind she stays home and does not drive.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-02-16
  • VIN: 3N1CP5CV1NL
  • Components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • Summary: The contact owns a 2022 Nissan Kicks. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle independently came to an abrupt stop, with the brake warning light flashing on the instrument panel. The contact stated that the roadway was clear, and there were no objects in the path of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, and it was acknowledged by the dealer that they were aware of the failure; however, the mechanic could not determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and the contact was provided a case number. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 10,300.
2022-12-24

STEERING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-08-22
  • VIN: 3N1CP5BV2NL
  • Components: STEERING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: Purchased vehicle new and the dealership delivered it to the house the mileage was under 300. Drove the car approximately 100 miles and while driving on the Interstate on the return trip there was a slight wind under 10 mph. The vehicle was difficult to control as the slightest wind causes the vehicle steering to drift over and the steering is so temperamental that the slightest correction can make you overcorrect. Driving in windy conditions is very difficult and you have to hold the steering wheel tightly to keep the vehicle from leaving the roadway. Passing trucks also cause the vehicle steering to be a problem. I do not know if it is due to vehicle weight, the design of the body, or the steering system. I have a friend with a Versa that is almost identical to my car and she experiences the same problem with her steering in the wind - her solution is she never drives if there is the slightest wind. I wish I had not purchased the vehicle unfortunately it had already been a week or two since purchase when I drove it more than a mile from my home. It now has almost 5000 miles on it and with the recent storms and 20 mph winds, it is not safe to operate on any highway or interstate due to the steering issue. The car was bought outright from the dealership

BACK OVER PREVENTION,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-04-17
  • VIN: 3N1CP5BV4NL
  • Components: BACK OVER PREVENTION,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • Summary: The contact owns a 2022 Nisan Kicks. The contact stated that the parking assist would alarm the driver that they were coming close to something or someone. When the power assist was activated, the vehicle would suddenly stop as if the vehicle was about to crash into an object or a person. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, there was an abnormal grinding noise coming from underneath the driver’s and passenger’s side front-end. The contact also stated that while in reverse or on an incline, the vehicle was making a popping sound underneath the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who was unable to identify the cause of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired and the failure persisted. The manufacturer had been made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 5,000.

The air bags deployed. The contact was transported to the hospital with the assistance of the emergency units. The contact sustained a fractured back and had surgery. The contact also sustained pain in the lower back and was currently hospitalized. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot. The dealer was notified of the failure. SEAT BELTS,LANE DEPARTURE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-06-16
  • Number Of Injuries: 1
  • Crash: 1
  • VIN: 3N1CP5CV2NL
  • Components: SEAT BELTS,LANE DEPARTURE
  • Summary: On June 16, 2022 I suffered a medical emergency and the vehicle drifted out of the lane into the guardrail to the right. No lane departure warning sounded or alerted me. The vehicle grazed the guardrail on the passenger side then veered left across the other 3 lanes with no warnings or alerts sounding. The seatbelt did not lock up during the guardrail incident or upon impact of the vehicle into a hillside where the vehicle eventually came to a stop. When I fully came to, I saw the gearshift broken off and I had a broken nose. Several other items from the dash were also broken off from my face hitting them. I suffered multiple injuries, one of which required surgery. I have a door panel shaped hematoma on my left hip, however all the medical records state "restrained driver" and can be provided upon request along with any other reports. The vehicle is currently at Monroe's Collision Center awaiting a determination on the extent of the damage. Several, if not all, airbags deployed. I had my car for 17 days. The windows are currently down and the vehicle will not start.

ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-03-15
  • VIN: 3N1CP5BV0NL
  • Components: ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: Brand new 2022 Nissan Kicks S, I was driving home from picking it up at the dealership with only 14 miles on the odometer when I was stopped at a red light and the car shuddered and stalled. The battery and oil dash lights came on. I had to place the car into Park, turn it off, and turn it back on to get it moving again. Once restarted, the dash lights went away and the car ran fine. There were no indications prior to the event that anything was wrong or that this would happen. This was incredibly frightening as I was worried traffic behind me would rear end me, even with the hazards on. I am taking it in to be inspected by the dealership this weekend.

Negative 2022 Nissan Kicks car reviews

  1. Rory Crooks 2024-10-03

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to let you know that I noticed a few things about your car that you might want to keep in mind. Firstly, it's really comfortable! However, you might find that the gas tank is a bit small, so you may need to fill up twice a week depending on how much you drive. Additionally, the cup holders in the front are a bit low down, and the center console has an odd shape. Just thought I'd give you a heads up! Let me know if you have any questions.

  2. Frederic Roob 2024-09-25

Uncomfortable, small gas tank (prepare to always fill up twice a week), just a crap car. Save your money.

  3. Ansley Sipes 2024-09-19

I'm currently renting one of these cars and was surprised by the price. I had expected it to be around 14k, but it turned out to be more expensive. While it may not be the most comfortable car, it does have some positive features such as good fuel efficiency and a decent amount of cabin space. However, there are some areas that could be improved, such as the car pulling to the left and the wind noise on the highway. Overall, I think there is room for improvement, but it's not all bad.

  4. Raoul Mosciski 2024-07-23

Cute car but I've been having some issues. The doors require a bit of force to shut properly and the light duty hitch and bike rack that worked perfectly on my 2017 Sentra is causing some trouble with the Kicks. It sinks down too much and I can't clear the slight ramp out of my school parking lot without risking scraping the bottom of the rack. Additionally, the collision assist feature seems to come on randomly even when there isn't a vehicle, human or animal anywhere to be found. Overall, I had higher expectations from Nissan.

  5. Carmelo Vandervort 2024-06-05

Driving from Phoenix to the Grand Canyon was not the most comfortable experience in a Nissan Kicks, but it did have its advantages. Despite the uphill traffic flowing at 80mph, the Kicks was very easy to park and maneuver, making it a great choice for an economical city car. The fuel economy was impressive, with the gas gauge going down slowly and only taking 8 or 9 gallons to completely refill. Freeway and arterial driving around Phoenix yielded slightly over 50mpg. Although the Kicks lacked 4wd, adequate ground clearance, and LT tires, it still had a good amount of interior and cargo space for a compact SUV. The lack of a center console was a bit annoying, and the seats were firm but unsupported. Overall, the Nissan Kicks is not an SUV, but it is a good choice for those looking for an economical city car.

Positive 2022 Nissan Kicks car reviews

  1. Jon Sporer 2025-01-08

The Nissan Kicks is a fantastic choice for anyone in the market for a subcompact SUV. It's practical, economical, and beautiful, with top-notch cargo space and MPG. Not only is it two thousand dollars cheaper than its competitors, the HR-V and C-HR, but it's also equipped with superior technology and safety features. While some people may complain about its size and acceleration, it's important to remember that a subcompact SUV is designed to be smaller. If you're looking for a larger vehicle with great acceleration, you should consider a large SUV or a sports car. Overall, the Kicks is a reliable, nimble, and stylish crossover that should be at the top of your list when shopping for a subcompact SUV.

  2. Israel Oberbrunner 2025-01-06

The Nissan Kicks is a really comfortable small SUV. I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying the ride and handling so far. It's a very chic and fun vehicle. It's great to hear that you still love your car after a year.

  3. Stephen Oberbrunner 2025-01-01

My husband and I recently purchased two new Nissans, one of which is the 2021 Nissan Kicks SR. We are absolutely in love with this little crossover! We adore its road manners, safety features, and the stunning Boulder Gray color with black wheels. We are excited to take it on a 9-hour trip next week! Keep up the awesome work Nissan!

  4. Savion Green 2024-11-18

My sin replaced my 2019 Sentra with 105k with my Kicks. It took ne 3 months to get mine and I love the black over white color. I've driven it out of town with the shortest trip being 500 miles. I really enjoy my little truck once I got the hang of correctly using the sport mode. I do have two complaints, the seats can become uncomfortable on long rides and the headlights could be brighter. However, overall I am extremely pleased with my Kicks!

  5. Tyrique Quitzon 2024-11-03

I love your new car! The color is amazing, it gets great gas mileage, and your family loves it too!
