Nissan Kicks problems

The Nissan Kicks (Japanese: 日産・キックス, Hepburn: Nissan Kikkusu) is a subcompact crossover SUV produced by Nissan since 2016. The crossover was initially introduced as a concept car under the same name and was premiered at the 2014 São Paulo International Motor Show. Nissan claimed the concept is inspired by the streets of Brazil. Currently, the Kicks nameplate is used for two similar-looking vehicles, albeit being built on different platforms with different dimensions.
The V platform-based Kicks debuted in São Paulo, Brazil in mid-2016 with the P15 chassis code. The car was designed collaboratively by Nissan's design headquarters in Atsugi, Japan, Nissan Design America (NDA) in San Diego, California, and Nissan Design America Rio de Janeiro. The Kicks was then gradually rolling out across Latin America, then it entered the United States and Canada in 2018 to replace the Juke as the subcompact crossover offering in both countries.
The B0 platform-based Kicks was introduced in India in January 2019 with the D15 chassis code. The company stated the vehicle is built on the platform to reduce production costs. It is slightly larger than the V platform-based Kicks, and retained the same wheelbase as the first-generation Dacia Duster and the B0 platform-based Renault Captur. The D15 Kicks ceased production in 2023.
The second-generation Kicks was introduced for the North American market in March 2024.

Common Nissan Kicks problems
The Nissan Kicks, a small front-wheel drive crossover, has been known to have several common problems, particularly in the 2019 model year. The most-reported problem is the need for a throttle body replacement, which can cost an average of $1,300 to fix, with no reported average mileage at which the problem occurs.
Electrical problems are another common issue, with some owners reporting blown horns, loss of power while driving uphill, and malfunctioning warning lights. A 2020 Nissan Kicks owner reported that the car has a damaged part inside the steering wheel, which costs thousands of dollars to replace. The same owner also reported that the car's electrical system causes it to lose power while driving uphill, and that Nissan has yet to address the issue.
The Kicks is also known for sensor problems, with multiple owners reporting issues with the front warning sensor detecting collisions when no other vehicle is in view. This can cause the engine malfunction light to come on randomly, as well as the crash sensors warning to activate. One owner reported that their 2020 Kicks has had multiple sensor issues, including coming to a complete stop on the highway, since purchasing it new. Despite taking the vehicle to the dealership for repairs, the issues have not been resolved.
The Kicks' continuously variable transmission (CVT) has also been a source of complaints, with some owners reporting that it can slip and make a grinding sound. This can be a costly problem to fix, as the transmission is expensive to replace if it fails. While Nissan has updated the CVT in their 2019+ models, there are still reports of issues with the transmission, particularly right outside the warranty window.
Finally, the Kicks' engine has been known to have problems, with some owners reporting that the car shuts off while driving or does not accelerate beyond 35 mph. An owner of a 2021 Nissan Kicks reported that their car's engine light came on and the car would not shift gears, despite being new with zero miles on it.
In summary, the Nissan Kicks has several common problems, particularly in the 2019 model year. These issues include throttle body replacement, electrical problems, sensor problems, CVT transmission issues, and engine problems. While Nissan has updated the CVT in their 2019+ models, there are still reports of issues with the transmission. Owners have reported that these problems can be costly to fix and may not be covered under warranty.

Why is Nissan Kicks not selling?
The troubles came to life in the malfunctioning front collision sensors, sudden braking with apparent obstacles ahead, faults with the electrical components, issues with the transmission, and other issues. They appeared often and were expensive for owners of the Nissan Kicks to maintain.
What are the pros and cons of a Nissan Kick?

Nissan Kicks 2018
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-19
- Date Complaint: 2024-09-26
- VIN: 3N1CP5CU8JL
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: ABS system warning light turns on and off, and ABS fails after 50,000 miles on vehicle. System requires ABS actuator replacement, but replacement isn't reliable. Nissan has been contacted and refused to acknowledge issue or offer assistance with issue. This has been an issue in ALL Nissan Kicks and Leaf models dating back to 2018 and through current models. I believe a recall should be instated for this problem because multiple cars could potentially be driving without their ABS systems active. This could lead to poor ability to stop in inclement weather and could lead to more accidents on highways. The lights randomly turning off could mislead drivers into thinking that nothing is wrong with their vehicles. Upon first inspection at local Nissan dealership they reported no problem but loose battery terminal.

- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-05
- Date Complaint: 2024-08-08
- VIN: 3N1CP5CU6KL
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: My 2018 Nissan kicks stalled several times, twice while at a stop light and once while driving. There was no warning or any indicators letting me know that the vehicle stalled. The two times at the light I was only able to notice because I couldn’t get the car to go while pressing the gas. The time I was driving the car suddenly stalled and slowed down and the steering wheel became stiff. I had to place it in neutral and pull over. I took my car to the manufacturer where I bought the car and explained it to them. It stalled in them as well but they couldn’t find a reason for it and told me that it could be my key fob cover and the battery. We changed the battery on 08/07/24 and it just stalled again today at a stop light on 08/08/24. This rules out the key and fob and cover so it must be the something with the transmission or engine. Either way, it becomes unsafe especially while it stalls while driving.

My new Kicks is a great gas saver, averaging 39mpg. It handles even better than my Kona did at freeway speeds. It's not the fastest car, but it's definitely acceptable for the price. So far, I am very satisfied!

Vehicle year: 2020
I have been working in the IT field for over 25 years as a field technician. Since 2006, I have been driving SUVs, with my last three being the Xterra. These vehicles have been ultra-dependable, although maintenance and repairs can be a bit expensive. After an expensive repair to my 2013 Xterra Pro-X at 120k miles, I thought it was time for a change. As an aspiring educator, I no longer need vehicles like the Xterra. I considered switching to the Rogue, but it lacked the sharp, aggressive lines that I prefer. The Kicks, on the other hand, has the look I want. However, there were three things that bothered me. Firstly, going from a 6-cylinder engine to a 4-cylinder with only 125 horses means I give up a lot of passing power on the expressway. Acceleration is painfully slow. Secondly, the rear brakes have drums instead of discs, which means that I have to adjust my driving habits. Finally, no AWD means that I can't plow through small to medium snow drifts anymore (I live in Chicago, IL...I don't need to explain about our winters!). I recently became familiar with the gist of the CVT transmission. Pulleys and belts have replaced gears, and I hear that at 100K the transmission will have problems. A transmission fluid exchange will cost about $300. Once I moved past that, there is much to like about the Kicks. This is my first time using Android Auto, and while it's great, when it comes to navigation systems, I'll stick with my external Garmin GPS. Despite being 60 years young and a bit on the portly side, the Kicks is still very comfortable and easy to get in and out of. There is no center console, and the armrest is a bit of a joke. I did have the optional console installed, but the installation is pricey. If you want the console, I recommend buying from eBay or Amazon as it is much cheaper. The Kicks does not have a CD player, but a USB stick works just fine. I love the mix of analog and digital for the dashboard. This is my first vehicle with the Intelligent Key System, and I am loving it!I love the steering wheel, it's something different. The tires looked a bit puny to me (remember, I live in Chicago) and I wanted something that would give me better handling and road grip. So, I decided to ditch the 205-55-17's and got a set of 225-50-17's. The wider tires give the Kicks a sportier look and a much more solid ride, which may help with the absence of AWD. After adjusting to sitting a bit lower, with less engine and braking power, I can confidently say that the transition is complete, and the Kicks is a pretty nice vehicle. However, I do have one last concern, which is the long term dependability and durability of this vehicle. Only time will tell.

I recently purchased a 2020 Nissan Kicks SV with 7100 miles on it. During my test drive, I didn't check the heat since it wasn't cold outside. Unfortunately, I later discovered that the auto climate control system blows extremely hot at 62 and cold at 61, making it difficult to find a comfortable temperature. Despite visiting the dealer and contacting Nissan, I was told that the system is functioning as designed. While I have encountered a few other Kicks owners who have experienced the same issue, I have also spoken to others who have not had any problems with the heat. Additionally, I have noticed that the headlights and interior lights get slightly brighter under acceleration, which seems unusual. When I asked a mechanic about it, he was unsure if it was normal or not due to the alternator being controlled by the computer's algorithms. Overall, I have been disappointed with my experience with Nissan and the customer service at the dealerships I have visited.Hey there! If you're in the market for a new vehicle, I would suggest looking elsewhere. While it does have great gas mileage, this particular car has caused nothing but headaches. Trust me, it's better to be safe than sorry. Take care!

The car has been experiencing several issues such as the radio turning off and on, stopping on its own, transmission slipping in reverse on hills, and now a grinding noise when starting the vehicle. These issues are unacceptable for a brand new car and must be addressed immediately. As a concerned parent with a young child, I cannot risk my safety on the highway. It is imperative that these issues are resolved promptly and effectively.

I had the pleasure of renting this vehicle for a business trip and I must say, I was impressed with its stylish and compact design. It's definitely a more attractive option than the discontinued Juke. However, after driving it for a while, I noticed that while it does some things well, it falls short in some key areas. As an owner of a 2015 Murano and a Nissan Rogue, I can say that the styling inside and out is very attractive and the dashboard design is excellent with terrific ergonomics and visibility. It's also easy to get in and out of, and the mileage seems decent. The ride is reasonably quiet, even on the highway, and at highway speeds, engine speeds were <2,000 rpm, which is excellent for a four-cylinder. The acceleration around town at low to mid-range speeds is reasonably sprightly and it handles well, seeming very stable and responsive. The media screen is large and the controls are well-placed. However, it's underpowered and should at least offer an engine upgrade as an option. 140-150 hp would probably be fine and better suited to this vehicle. The seats are also uncomfortable for longer trips, causing my thighs to hurt just after a couple of hours of driving, something I never experienced in my Murano, the Rogue, or various Altimas I have rented. Additionally, this car should offer an AWD option, but would definitely need an engine upgrade for that. Overall, it's a decent entry-level SUV, but Nissan clearly compromised on some significant things on a car that's the logical successor to the Juke. They definitely improved the design and ergonomics. If Nissan would offer AWD and a more powerful engine, I'd consider buying one. It's a cute little vehicle with some good features and a lot of potential, but as it stands now, it's off my list. Too bad!

I bought my 2018 Kicks SR with only 20 miles on it. At first, it was great for commuting to work with good gas mileage. However, after reaching 2000 miles, I started experiencing some issues. Firstly, the interior lighting package I had installed was not up to my expectations. The lights were barely visible even in the dark, which was disappointing considering the cost of the package. The dealer suggested an aftermarket kit, which I declined. Secondly, the front and rear radar sensors malfunctioned at around 2500 miles, but the dealer replaced them. Thirdly, the transmission was jerky during acceleration, but the dealer managed to fix it. Unfortunately, the front and rear radar sensors went out again at 4000 miles, but the dealer fixed them again. The radio also became unresponsive at 4000 miles, but the dealer replaced it. After that, everything seemed to be going well until around 9000 miles when the front and rear radar sensors malfunctioned again. The auto-dimming rearview mirror also stopped functioning, but the dealer replaced it. The radio went out again at 11,000 miles, but the dealer replaced it again. Thankfully, I have not had any issues since my last visit to the dealer at 36,000 miles. Although the dealer said I got a bad one, my husband has the same make, model, and year, and he has experienced similar issues, albeit not as frequently as I have. Unfortunately, the issues did not occur within a year, so I cannot claim it as a lemon.I would suggest considering other options for a small SUV instead of purchasing the Kicks.

Purchased a new 2021 Nissan Kicks SR in Jan. 2021. Only problems we have had with is the stitching coming loose on the leather seats . It has happened on 2 of the 4 seats so far . Nissan is finally replacing them after a long wait for parts . Car was also out of alignment from the factory which the dealer also fixed. At least Nissan is backing their product its warranty coverage . Just a nuisance to fix a new car .
