- Summary: 98 NISSAN FRONTIER INSTRUMENT CLUSTERS ARE DEFECTIVE. THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ON LINE AND NO PARTS AVAILABLE. MINE STARTED FIRST BY THE SPEEDOMETER BEING OFF. THE PROBLEM IS NISSAN CAN'T EVEN FIX THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE THE PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE AND THE COMPANY THAT MANUFACTURED THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTERS WENT OUT OF BUSINESS. WHEN THIS PROBLEM FIRST STARTED I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW I HAD AN ISSUE BECAUSE IT WAS JUST THE SPEED OFF BY ABOUT 10 MILES PER HOUR IT SAID I WAS GOING SLOWER THEN I WAS ACTUALLY GOING. I bought the car with 19K miles on it and have put 17K miles on it in the past 2 years. It has held up very well and I have had no mechanical problems with it. I was nervous about towing a stuffed 4'x8' trailer 800 miles, but it made it with no problem. I really appreciate that the A/T shifter is on the column, as it helps with legroom for tall guys. The only issue I have had is with the chintzy plastic tailgate handle. Nissan should have used a more durable material. Additionally, the plastic 'stuff' under the front bumper seems flimsy. Overall, my wife and I both really like the car and feel that it rides like a dream.

This is my first Nissan truck (had a 300zx and a 510 before). I took a chance and bought a repo and I love it! The truck is perfect for what I need it to do, which is light to medium hauling and tooling around. I am very satisfied with this truck.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my Nissan Frontier. I actually bought it on the recommendation of a friend who works at a Toyota dealership. He told me that while Toyota trucks are great, Nissans are just as good and more affordable. After 8 years and 124,000 miles, I can confidently say that he was right! My Frontier has been amazing - no major repairs, recalls, or defects. All I have to do is change the oil every 6,000 miles and it runs like a dream. The driving position is super comfortable, and while the 4 cyl. motor is a bit underpowered, it gets great gas mileage (21.5 to 28.5 mpg). The only downside is that the headlights tend to burn out every 18 to 24 months, but replacing the bulbs yourself is easy and only costs about $13.
-
A very good value. I'm glad to hear that you've had such a positive experience with your truck! You've put it through a lot and it's great to hear that it's held up so well. Thank you for sharing your experience!
-
I bought this for my first vehicle. At first, I didn't know much about the Nissan name. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how well it has held up over the years. Despite taking it off-road and pushing it to its limits, it is still running strong with 140,000 miles on it. It handles great and has plenty of power. I usually get about 20 mpg, but I'm sure I could get even more. Overall, I'm really happy with this truck!

This truck is a reliable workhorse that has proven its worth time and time again. Despite some minor cosmetic issues, such as the faded black paint, it has never let me down. I have used it for heavy-duty tasks, including hauling and towing, and it has always performed exceptionally well. In comparison to my previous truck, a 1998 Dodge Dakota xtra cab 4x4, which was a complete lemon, this imported truck is a much better choice. Overall, I highly recommend this truck for anyone in need of a dependable and capable vehicle.
Jerel Koss 2024-08-01
I purchased this vehicle in 2002 from an older gentleman with only 33,000 miles and no signs of damage or abuse. Although I have encountered some issues, such as a seal going bad in the timing chain cover and a leaky transmission case, I have taken care of it by servicing it every 3,000 miles and only using it occasionally on non-paved roads. However, I have found that the design of the vehicle is not as dependable as a Toyota Tacoma, which I regret not purchasing instead. Despite these challenges, I am confident in my ability to maintain and care for my vehicle.

This truck has been a reliable companion for over two decades. While there have been some minor issues with the bushing in the stabilizer bar and the radio light, these have been promptly addressed. The A/C can be a bit noisy and cause a slight loss in horsepower, but this is a minor inconvenience. The clutch has lasted for an impressive 56k miles. While the gas mileage could be better, this truck is still a joy to drive and boasts excellent ergonomics. Overall, this truck has proven to be a worthwhile investment and is sure to continue serving its purpose for many more miles to come.
Cortez Hyatt 2024-02-13
The truck has proven to be highly reliable with an appealing exterior. Although the interior layout is practical, there have been some minor issues such as a rattling right window, loss of radio light at 45,000 mi, and loss of radio volume control at 49,000 mi. Despite these issues, the service engine light came on at 51,000 mi, requiring a return trip for a complete diagnostic.
