Common 2000 Nissan Frontier problems

The Nissan Frontier (KA24DE Engine) from 1999-2000 does not have a timing belt, but instead uses a timing chain.

One common problem with the Nissan Frontier from 1999-2000 is related to the distributors in the engines, which can cause misfiring and stalling issues, especially when they get hot. This can be a particularly frustrating problem for owners, as it can lead to the truck running poorly or even dying while driving. In some cases, replacing the distributor may solve the problem, but it can also be caused by other issues, such as faulty spark plugs or wires.

Another common problem with the Nissan Frontier from this generation is related to the knock sensor. This component is responsible for detecting engine knocking, which can be caused by a variety of issues, such as improper fuel-air mixture or ignition timing problems. If the knock sensor is faulty, it can cause the engine to run poorly or even stall. Replacing the knock sensor may solve the problem, but it's important to diagnose the underlying issue to prevent it from happening again.

In addition to these specific problems, the Nissan Frontier from 1999-2000 has a reputation for being less reliable than other vehicles in its class. This is based on data from Consumer Reports, which combines extensive survey data and expert technical knowledge to provide reliability information for various vehicles. While the Nissan Frontier from this generation is not expected to be the most reliable vehicle, it's important to note that individual experiences can vary widely.

In terms of maintenance, the Nissan Frontier from 1999-2000 with the KA24DE engine may require preventive maintenance, such as replacing the timing belt and water pump. This is because the timing belt is a critical component of the engine that can wear out over time, and replacing it can help prevent engine damage or failure. Additionally, replacing the O2 sensors, plugs, wires, cap, and rotor can help ensure optimal engine performance and fuel efficiency.

Overall, the Nissan Frontier from 1999-2000 can be a reliable and capable vehicle, but it's important to be aware of potential problems and maintenance needs. By staying on top of preventive maintenance and addressing issues promptly, owners can help ensure their Nissan Frontier runs smoothly and reliably for years to come.

Negative 2000 Nissan Frontier car reviews

  1. Lenny Deckow 2024-10-25

This truck did not meet my expectations. Despite taking good care of it, I experienced several issues with fit and finish, power, gas mileage, and the 4WD system. Unfortunately, at 115k miles, the engine blew a head gasket and required a new engine. Overall, I was disappointed with my purchase and it did not live up to the premium price I paid. This experience has led me to explore other options for my next vehicle.

  2. Kristofer Shanahan 2024-05-05

Although I initially thought I had found a good deal on this used truck, I now realize that it is not suitable for my needs. While it is a decent vehicle, it only gets 18 mpg in 2 wheel drive, which is not sufficient for someone who drives over 120 miles a day. However, I have found that in 4WD, it gets 22 mpg. Overall, I am confident in my decision to move on from this truck and find a better fit for my needs.

  3. Vito Aufderhar 2024-03-08

Overall, it sounds like you've had some ups and downs with your truck. It's great to hear that it's better quality than your previous Dodge, but it's a shame that it hasn't quite lived up to the standards of your Audi. It's frustrating when things like exhaust manifolds, bumpers, and O2 sensors fail, but it's fortunate that the original owner purchased an extended warranty. It's also disappointing to hear about the tailgate decal and exhaust issues. Commuting 120 miles a day and only getting 17mpg on the highway must be tough, but it's good to know that it's great for cross country trips. It's a shame that there could be more rear leg room, but overall it sounds like a decent truck.

I purchased the car for $9,000 with 62,000 miles, despite it being older than 7 years and therefore not covered by the lemon law in Connecticut. Unfortunately, after only 700 miles, the rotor, camshaft, and distributor failed, resulting in a repair cost of over $3,600 from Nissan. Later on, the head gasket blew, which will cost me an additional $3,300 for repairs including the exhaust manifold and catalytic converters. Despite these setbacks, I remain confident in my decision to purchase this car and will continue to make necessary repairs. While the total cost of repairs has been significant, I believe that the car still holds value and will be a worthwhile investment in the long run.

I just wanted to share my experience with my Frontier, which has been an amazing work truck for me. Despite having over 175,000 miles on it, it still runs like a charm. I purchased it brand new in 2000 with only 10 miles on it, and it has been a reliable companion ever since. While it may not be the most powerful or fuel-efficient truck out there, it gets the job done and has required minimal maintenance over the years. In fact, I've only had to replace the timing belt at 120k miles and one A/C hose at 160k miles, which is a testament to its durability. If you're in the market for a dependable and long-lasting truck at a great price, I highly recommend the Frontier. Mine has been put through its paces, hauling heavy work trailers and going long periods between oil changes, but it has never let me down.

I've owned this truck for 4 years now and it has been nothing but wonderful. It's been great to drive, very usable, and problem-free. I've never had to take it to the shop, which is pretty impressive for four years of use. I've driven it all the way from North Carolina to Seattle, then back and forth a few times to Montana, and finally to Wisconsin with a large, heavy UHaul. Through it all, the truck never lost its breath!

I love my Nissan! It has 372,000 miles on it and it's still going strong after 20 years. My daughter drove it to high school and college, and now it's my trusty work truck. I would definitely buy another Nissan in the future.

Hi there! I just wanted to share with you that I bought my truck brand new back in 1999. Since then, it has been through a lot - from a 200+ mile daily commute to countless moves and rough driving. Despite all of that, I have never had a single problem with it! I must say, it's a really great truck!

You've got to hear this! My car has 210,000 miles on it and it's still running like a dream. I only had to change the brakes and clutch at 180,000 miles. Unfortunately, the A/C failed at 190,000 miles, but the compressor still works. I couldn't find the leak, so I decided not to repair it. I'm telling you, I've never had a vehicle run this well!
