All Altima models for the North American market were built in Smyrna, Tennessee, until June 2004, when Nissan's Canton, Mississippi plant also began producing the model to meet high demand.

THE ELECTRICAL IGNITION SWITCH TO START THE CAR HAS ALWAYS BEEN A PROBLEM. I HAVE TO TURN THE KEY, WAIT, TURN IT AGAIN, WAIT FOR THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS TO COME ON, THEN FINALLY THE CAR WILL START. THE POWER TRAIN GEAR CONTROL IS ANOTHER WAITING GAME. TO PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE, I FIRST HAVE TO SLOWLY SHIFT THOUGH EACH GEAR BEFORE FINALLY PUTTING INTO DRIVE. ONCE I DO PUT IT INTO DRIVE THE CAR WILL SUDDENLY JOLT FORWARD BEFORE I'M ABLE TO START DRIVING THE CAR. I RECENTLY HAD THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED CAUSE IT JUST STOPPED WHILE IN MOTION AND STRUGGLED TO START UP AGAIN. IT FINALLY DID, BUT IT COULDN'T DRIVE OVER 1ST GEAR. I HAD TO TOW THE CAR HOME. ALSO, FEW YRS BACK I HAD THE HEAD GASKET REPLACED CAUSE THE CAR WOULD SHUT OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING. IT WOULD ALSO NOT START UP AGAIN IF I HAD JUST TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. - Summary: EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. MY CAR STARTS TO GET DIFFICULT TO DRIVE ABOUT EVERY 200-300 MILES. START TO HEAR A CLUNK, WHEN I ADD OIL IT IS OK BUT ONLY GETS 16-18 MILES A GALLON VS THE 28-30 IT SHOULD GET. ENGINE IS BURNING THROUGH 2 QUARTS OF OIL EVERY WEEK. THIS MAKE MODEL AND YEAR ALREADY HAS A RECALL ON IT BUT THE WEB SITE IS SAYING THAT MY VIN NUMBER HAS NO OPEN RECALLS. THIS CAR IS THE SAME AS THE CARS COVERED BY THE RECALL. IT CAN'T BE A COINCIDENCE THAT MY VEHICLE AND HUNDREDS OF OTHERS, FROM THE SAME YEAR ARE DOING THE SAME THING BUT. NISSAN IS ONLY COVERING CERTAIN ONES. NISSAN NEEDS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM FOR ALL 2006 ALTIMA'S WITH EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. IT IS COSTING $12 A WEEK FIR OIL AND MY GAS MILEAGE IS DOWN BY 1/3.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE OIL WARNING INDICATOR WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT CALLED LANDERS NISSAN (LOCATED AT 371 GOODMAN RD E, SOUTHAVEN, MS 38671, (662) 349-5557) AND WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE VALVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT ASSOCIATED THE FAILURE WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 06V223000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.

- Consequence: IF THE INTERRUPTION IN THE SIGNAL FROM THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR IS SO BRIEF THAT THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE (ECM) LOGIC DOES NOT HAVE TIME TO DIAGNOSE THE CONDITION, THE ENGINE MAY STOP RUNNING WITHOUT WARNING WHILE THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN AT A LOW SPEED INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPROGRAM THE ECM FREE OF CHARGE. CERTAIN MY 2006 ALTIMAS WHICH HAVE BEEN PREVIOUSLY REMEDIED UNDER RECALL CAMPAIGN 06V223 (NISSAN R0606) ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL SINCE THE REPROGRAMMING FOR 06V223 ALSO INCLUDED THIS REPROGRAMMING. THE PHOTOMETRIC WERE MISALIGNED WHICH DOES NOT COMPLY WITH FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 108, LAMPS, REFLECTIVE DEVICES, AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT.
- Consequence: MISALIGNMENT OF THE LIGHTS DIMINISHES FRONTAL ILLUMINATION WHICH COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH.

- Consequence: IF THE BRACKET IS CRACKED, THE STABILITY OF THE VEHICLE MAY BE AFFECTED UNDER SEVERE DRIVING CONDITIONS. THIS COULD LEAD TO A LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.

This has been one of my favorite cars I have owned so far. The V6 is very powerful, and gets great fuel economy with the 5-speed. If you take good care of the car, you can get an average of 27 mpg every time. There is plenty of room both in the front and back, and the trunk is huge as well. Overall, it's a great car!

Hi there! As a mother of two, I recently purchased my second Altima - my first was a base model three years ago. I must say, this upgraded version is definitely worth it! It's a fast car compared to what I'm used to, and I love all the added features. While the interior is a little dark, overall I am highly pleased with this family/sporty car! The cup holders are much better than the huge ones they used to put in, and there's better storage too!

I've been driving my Altima for a few months now and I have to say, I'm always excited to get behind the wheel. The 250 HP really delivers and it feels like the full pedal is directly connected to the car's performance. The only thing that could make it even better would be a slightly stiffer steering wheel. Overall, I absolutely love my car and would give it a BIG 9.5/10!

We purchased this vehicle in May 2006. Recently, we have become aware of some engine problems with this model that have resulted in 17 engine fires. We have not received any communication from Nissan regarding this issue, and we could not find any information on their website either. We are concerned that this problem may affect the trade-in value of our vehicle if we decide to switch to another brand. We have always believed that Nissan is a quality company that stands behind its products, having purchased a total of 4 Nissans over the years. However, we are disappointed with their lack of action in this matter. Could you please let us know what Nissan plans to do to rectify this situation? Thank you for your help.

I love this car. I noticed that my sun-roof does not line up totally flush, but I haven't experienced any unusual road noise or leaking so far. I was wondering if anyone else has had similar issues with their sun-roof? This is my first vehicle with a sun-roof and I absolutely love having it. I just want to ensure that it won't cause any problems in the future.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with the 2.5l car. I found it to be quite peppy, just as I was told. While the gas mileage wasn't quite what I expected, I was able to get 26 mpg on the highway and 16-18 mpg locally. The road noise was a bit annoying, but overall, I found the car to be a great purchase. The air conditioning was a bit noisy, but I found that turning off the auto climate control helped with the noise. Thanks for listening!

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my 2006 Altima 2.5S. After purchasing it 10 months ago, I received a letter from Nissan about a month later regarding some mechanical issues that were causing the car to burn oil and potentially catch fire. While it took some time for a recall to be issued, I was eventually able to bring my car to the dealership for servicing. During my visit, I mentioned that my car was burning about 2 quarts of oil every 3,500 miles, but was told that this was normal and that there was no issue unless the car was burning 1 quart of oil every 700 miles. I purchased the vehicle brand new with only 66 miles on the odometer. While the engine and transmission have performed well, the suspension has required frequent attention. Despite having to replace the shocks three times and aligning the vehicle three times per year, the driving experience has not improved. Overall, I am disappointed with the suspension issues.

Although Nissan rates themselves as high or even above Honda and Toyota in quality and reliability, my personal experience with my Altima has been less than ideal. While most mid-size sedans can hit the 100K mile mark before experiencing any maintenance issues, I've had several problems with mine since I bought it over 6 years ago. Despite regular oil and brake changes and basic upkeep, I've had to put a lot of extra money into it to keep it running well. While I love the acceleration and power of the Altima, it's turning into a money pit far sooner than it should. Although there may be Altima's out there with 200K miles and no problems, that wasn't my experience, and it has definitely made me hesitant to purchase another Nissan in the future.

The engine was immediately recalled and replaced within the first month. However, I was never truly satisfied with the car as the paint job deteriorated after just 5 years. Unfortunately, after 9 years, the head cracked without any prior warning or indicator lights.
