Overview

The vehicle was previewed as the NV200 Concept at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show, followed by the 2008 Nissan Tenjin Motor Show. The concept vehicle was equipped with a remote control panel for a spider camera, and equipment for organizing and editing photographs and images on the move.

The vehicle was unveiled at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show, followed by 2010 Beijing International Automobile Exhibition. The vehicle went on sale in Japan before summer 2009, followed by Europe in autumn 2009 and then in China and other markets. Available in combi and passenger car versions, NV200 was built on a modified version of Nissan's B platform, with fully independent strut type front suspension mounted on a separate subframe and a leaf spring rear axle.

WE HAVE TRIED TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM WITH NISSAN USA SINCE MAY BUT HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY RESOLUTION OR DATES WHEN THE ISSUE MAY BE FIXED.

2015 Nissan Nv200 recalls

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 1 recalls for different components of the 2015 Nissan Nv200.

  • Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Nissan Maxima, 2013-2016 Nissan Altima, NV200, LEAF, Sentra, and Pathfinder, 2014-2016 Nissan NV200 Taxi, Infiniti QX60, QX60 Hybrid, and Q50 Hybrid, 2014-2017 Nissan Rogue and Infiniti Q50, 2015-2016 Nissan Murano, Murano Hybrid, and Chevrolet City Express, 2014-2015 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid, and 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles. In these vehicles, the front seat passenger Occupant Classification System (OCS) may incorrectly classify an adult passenger as a child or classify the seat as empty despite it being occupied. As a result, the passenger frontal air bag may be turned off and not deploy in the event of a crash.
  • Consequence: If the passenger frontal air bag does not deploy as intended in the event of a crash, the passenger is at an increased risk of injury.
  • Remedy: Nissan will notify their owners. Chevrolet City Express owners will be notified by General Motors. Dealers will reprogram the Air Bag Control Unit (ACU) and OCS Electronic Control Unit (ECU) in Altima, Maxima, Murano, Rogue, and Sentra vehicles, and replace the OCS ECU in LEAF, NV200, NV200 Taxi, Pathfinder, Infiniti Q50, JX35, and QX60 and Chevrolet City Express vehicles, free of charge. Interim notices were sent to owners on May 31, 2016. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669, Infiniti customer service at 1-888-833-3216 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020.

    The NV200 has had some issues, including the rusted out catalytic converter after 3 years and the need for custom euro-style tires. Additionally, the suspension may struggle with heavier loads. However, we are confident in our ability to address these challenges and provide a reliable and efficient vehicle for our customers.

    I noticed a few areas where the NV200 could be improved. Firstly, it would be great if there was a window built into the back passenger side, not to open and close, but just to look through. This would make it a lot safer. Secondly, the gas gauge can be frustrating as it's difficult to tell when you're at the beginning of a bar or near the end. I prefer the old-style vertical, linear gauge. Thirdly, the spare tire should be inside the vehicle or have a lift-up at the end of the bed. I had it put inside so the tire guys wouldn't have to go to a lot of hassle to check it and put air in it. I don't use the air indicator at all because it flashes on and off like all the other lights. If something needs attention, that light should stay on. I just get the tires filled once a month, like usual. Lastly, there is very little room in the passenger seat and glove compartment, so it would be great if both had more space. It would also be helpful if the mileage showed tenths of a mile. I hope Nissan considers these improvements for future models of the NV200, as I intend to buy a new one in a few years.

    I purchased an NV 200 in 2014 for a small business we were establishing and needed a vehicle for the purchase of raw material and transportation. Despite the engine appearing sufficient during the test drive, it has proven to have difficulty hauling cargo and the acceleration can be unsafe at times. Additionally, I have experienced significant tire wear after only 8000 miles and the replacement tires are quite expensive. Furthermore, I have encountered paint issues for which Nissan is unwilling to take responsibility, indicating that the van may have been touched up prior to my purchase. While the van does provide easy access and loading of cargo, its lack of engine power is a significant drawback.

    Your golf cart-like vehicle may not be the most perfect, but it certainly gets the job done! I have owned it for a year now and have put 15000 miles on it. Even when carrying a heavy load of 400 lbs in the rear for work, it has no problem getting around. However, I have noticed an issue with the rear axle and tires. The camber is off on both sides, which has caused the tires to wear out quickly. Unfortunately, there is no adjustment available, and the dealer claims that it is within specifications. They have also suggested that I replace the tires, which are quite expensive at $200 each.

    The 2013 model has a short warranty of 3/36k, but the 2014 model and newer have a longer warranty of 6/100k. I recommend sticking with the 2014 model or newer for this reason. Otherwise, they seem to be identical. I have personally owned two of these vans and have found that if you follow the recommended tire rotations and alignments, the tires do not wear out quickly. It's worth noting that this van has a GVW of 4500lbs, which is fairly light. If you overload it, the rear end will squat and the tires will toe out and wear unevenly. There are only two types of tires available in the USA for this van, both from Nissan - one for winter and one for summer. I advise against going the aftermarket route as this van requires load rated C tires. However, both Nissan tires are actually rather good and not too expensive. I was in a serious accident with one of my two vans, and unfortunately, it was seriously damaged. However, the van protected us from what could have been serious injuries. We were hit by a 1 ton truck from behind and pushed into something and hit again, but we were perfectly fine. I am currently in the process of replacing the van and I must say, I love these NV's.

    I recently looked at the new NV200 while my current one was being serviced. Although it was nice, it was basically unchanged. The retained value of the older model was shown to me, and the trade-in value dropping and retail price rising will be the primary decision maker. However, my 2013 model is still meeting all my needs. Even with the fall 2018 additions, it is still the best for my load and use. The only issues I have encountered are the reflection and position of the instrumentation, which make direct reading dangerous (eyes away from road), and audio drop out forces reSYNC. Additionally, the 'butt locking' feature is inconvenient, and it still seems that the vehicle auto locks overnight (but it may be my fault). The age of the vehicle is prompting me to shop for a replacement, and it will definitely be an NV200 2018 update. I load and unload an average of 4 times each week and am getting older, so I appreciate the low loading deck every time. I had to add more cushioning for my passenger (wife), so I will look for a better passenger seat in the next NV200, and maybe a single passenger seat (my load has room for that). After 4 years, I am still glad to have the NV200. The lowest floor height makes lifting and loading easy, especially for the elderly. I purchased it exclusively for that feature and can confirm that tire life is very short (20-23,000 miles). However, there are tires by others that meet Nissan specs for less money. I paid an independent specialty alignment shop to electronically check the alignment and found (as others have) that there is a misalignment in the rear wheels, and in their opinion, the alignment is contributing to premature tire wear. I will address this with the Nissan dealership, but the specialty shop could not identify any means to adjust rear alignment. I checked for a competitive brand to extend tire life, but nothing beats the loading height of the NV200. As a light load, low mileage user, I still know that for my needs, I can find nothing better! In an update, I added LEDs around the inside and tapped into the rear (small) interior light to avoid loading in the dark.It's something I should have recognized the shortcoming and had it professionally installed at purchase. Still, it's the best vehicle I've ever had to meet my needs. Even with Covid slowing down my use, I'm still completely satisfied with it after 12000 miles. I'm hoping the new European version will be available in the US for my next trade. Unfortunately, this model has been discontinued in the USA.

I noticed that you mentioned the front wheel bearing went out at 40,000 miles, but it's great to hear that it was covered under warranty. It's also good to know that regular tire rotations are important, and that the Cooper Discovery HD3 tires have held up well. It's impressive that the front brakes are still original, and that the rear brakes were only replaced at 80,000 miles. Overall, it sounds like your vehicle is perfect for light duty service work with plenty of cargo space, and it's much more fuel efficient than a pickup truck.     The NV200 did everything a small cargo van should. It's easy to load with sliding doors on both sides and rear doors that open 180 degrees. The mileage was better than advertised. In my 4-1/2 years of operation, I have had no troubles.

    Drive one for delivering luggage. It's very easy to load and unload with sliding doors on both sides and back doors that are ample sized. With over 180,000 miles on the original engine, I replaced the rear wheel bearings and it was drastically quieter. It has many comforts and is very agile for narrow streets. However, the small diameter wheels make it jumpy at highway speeds. Overall, I am happy with it for business.
