2010 Nissan Altima problems
The Nissan Altima is a mid-size car manufactured by Nissan since 1992. It is a continuation of the Nissan Bluebird line, which began in 1955.
The Altima has historically been larger, more powerful, and more luxurious than the Nissan Sentra but less so than the Nissan Maxima. The first through fourth-generation cars were manufactured exclusively in the United States and officially sold in North and South America, along with the Middle East and Australia. For other markets, Nissan sold a related mid-size sedan called the Nissan Teana which was between the Altima and Maxima in terms of size. In 2013, the Teana became a rebadged version of the fifth-generation Altima.
The name "Altima" was originally applied to a top trim line of the Nissan Leopard for the Japanese market in 1986, and then to the Nissan Laurel mid-size car sold in Central America and the Caribbean before 1992. In 1992, Nissan discontinued the Stanza which was a Nissan Bluebird clone, replacing it with the US-built Altima, while remaining a compact car. The first Altima was produced in June 1992, as a 1993 model. All Altima models for the North American market were built in Smyrna, Tennessee, until June 2004, when Nissan's Canton, Mississippi plant also began producing the model to meet high demand.

Common 2010 Nissan Altima problems
The 2010 Nissan Altima has been reported to have several common problems by its owners. One of the most significant issues is transmission failure, which appears after an average of 136,300 miles of driving. This problem is particularly prevalent in the early days of the Nissan CVT automatic transmission and can cost an average of $2,840 to fix.
Another common problem is the car failing to start, which occurs after an average of 66,250 miles of driving. This issue is often caused by electrical problems, including wiring harnesses and electronic steering column locks. Repairs can range from $150 to $1000, depending on the source of the problem.
Additionally, many owners have reported premature battery failure, which happens in vehicles under 30,000 miles. The only solution is to replace the battery, which can cost over $150.
Transmission failures are also a regular occurrence in the Nissan lineup, including the 2010 Nissan Altima. The only solution is to replace the entire transmission with a new unit, which can cost about $3,000.
The 2010 Nissan Altima has also had some recalls, including suspension insulators cracking, a structural weld, and GPS overheating. The suspension isolators are the most serious, affecting more vehicles and potentially leading to an accident.
Lastly, there have been reports of push-button start failure, electrical system issues, and melting dashboards in the 2010 Nissan Altima.
While the 2010 Nissan Altima has some common problems, it is still a popular midsize sedan with good features and performance. However, potential buyers should be aware of these issues and consider having the vehicle inspected by a mechanic before purchasing.

- VIN: 1N4BL2AP2AN
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: This vehicle has a major electrical issue. A long time ago, I used to use my keyfob to open doors remotely and used the push start button to get the car running. I can no longer do this. when I couldn't do this any longer, went through several mechanics. They could not fix this problem. Finally, they had to use a bypass method where now I have to use a different way to start the car. The mechanic had to install a push bypass button. This is how I can only start the car now. 1. I depress the brake paddle 2. Insert the keyfob in a hole (located at the bottom the left side of the steering wheel) 3. Press the start button 4. Then hit this bypass button I don't know if anybody is having this issue but this has become a nuisance for me.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-06-01
- VIN: 1N4BL2AP0AN
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: THERE ARE two ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE. FIRST, THE COST TO REPLACE A HEADLIGHT BULB IF ONE GOES OUT IS VERY HIGH (I PAID WELL OVER A HUNDRED DOLLARS), AND THUS MANY PEOPLE MAY NOT BEABLE TO REPLACE THE LIGHT, WHICH I BELIEVE IS A SAFETY ISSUE. Second, this vehicle does NOT have the means to start it with a real key. It ONLY starts with the key fob. Thus, in the event that something happens to the key fob, like if it breaks or if the battery goes dead, the vehicle cannot be started. I believe this would cause a safety issue, in the event that a driver should be stuck on the side of the road, especially in bad weather, and cannot start the vehicle to move out of the way of any traffic or other dangers. I did question the manufacturer about this issue which is the most important to me, and they were VERY uncooperative. They would NOT sell me a replacement key fob (to keep as a backup) but would sell me one at a price over $300. I feel this especially is a safety issue. And actually the TRUNK of this vehicle has no key hole that can allow it to be opened except with the key fob. What if a woman has the keyfob in her pourse, lays it down to unload groceries into the trunk, and accidently closes the trunk lid. Then she cannot start her vehicle. And, what if a CHILD should get into the trunk and there be no one with a key fob to get them out. I would like to have some response to these issues. In my opinion, both the keyfob issues and the headlamp issue are vey important safety issues and need to be addressed. I feel that things like safety equipment (headlights) and access (an actual key and opening to use it) should be priced within the reach of ANY person who owns this particular vehicle. Thank you Please disregard CAPS in first paragraph, my CAPS key got stuck.

I can’t afford to pay the dealership or anyone else to look at it. Not inspected by police insurance or manufacturer yet but I’m sure it will be once I have a wreck Due to the fact that I can’t see clearly out the windshield there were no warning lamps Or messages but here’s the story : I bought this car Preowned in Oklahoma on April 16, 2023 since then on more than one occasion I have almost run over A pedestrian or into another vehicle because I couldn’t see due to the excessive glare on my windshield One photo Shows how bad the Glare is when The Sun hits The windshield 4some reason it uploaded sideways Depending upon the placement of the sun the Reflection on the The windshield Will cover the entire lower half the rest of the photos were taken in my garage &even after dark with just the light from my garage you can clearly see how bad the glare is due to the reflection. I also included a photo of a quarter standing On its side. that is how sticky the dash is. You can also see in the photos how the shade I bought to keep the sun off of The dash leaves pieces on the dashboard because it keeps sticking to the dashboard Every day when I use it. You can also see if you look really closely how the stickiness that’s on the shade rubs off onto the windshield and leaves a sticky mess on it. please do something about this my car is no longer under warranty but is it unsafe to drive at various times both day and night. There’s no way I can afford to get a new dash.

STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-01-10
- VIN: 1N4BL2EP5AC
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: The dashboard is sticky and melty. It has also cracked open continuously from left to right across the entire front face of the dashboard. It continues to widen such that I can see some of the inside of the dashboard. There was a class action settlement made for 2008-2009 Altimas and this exact problem of melty and sticky dashboard. The car is available for inspection upon request. There are three primary concerns regarding this dashboard 1. glare from the melt causing accidents, 2. reduced function of safety systems, and 3. off gassing of plastic components proven to be carcinogenic.

I bought my 2.5S coupe brand new in July of 2010 and have been taking great care of it ever since. I make sure to keep up with regular oil changes and change the spark plugs with OEM every 100K. I've been following the maintenance schedule included in the owners' manual and it's been working wonders for me. Even after 217K miles, my car still runs almost as good as new. It's a heavy, solidly made car that feels great to drive. Although it's not as silent at idle as it used to be, it's still not loud by any means. Occasionally, there's a little window rattle on the highway, but nothing major. The only problem I've had in 10 years was a bracket that holds a belt go. The acceleration is smooth and it feels like it has more horsepower than it actually does. I personally love the smoothness of the CVT transmission, so I don't understand why some people complain about it. The car handles great and does well in the snow. I invested in Michelins when it was time for new tires and the Premier A/S is the best tire for this car. One of my favorite things about this car is the insane cruising range. I average right around 30 MPG overall and easily get over 500 miles per full tank of gas. Since I do a lot of highway miles and don't beat on it, I'm very happy with this purchase.
-
I really like this car! After looking at Honda, Subaru, Volvo, and others, I narrowed it down to the Altima and the Infiniti G37x (really). While I prefer the exterior of the Altima, I have to give the interior nod to the G37. The Altima has fold-down rear seats, better fuel economy, and oh, by the way, it was over $10k less! I may miss the AWD on a few days here in CO, but my snow tires will help. I was pleasantly surprised at how affordable the Altima was compared to the Infiniti. The Infiniti dealers were unwilling to discount the 2010's even with their lots full and the 2011's arriving in Sept. Oh well, good for us, and I'll pocket the $10k, thank you very much!
-
The Altima 3.5SR is a fantastic vehicle! It has great performance, features, interior and exterior. The Sport, Premium and Technology packages are definitely worth the investment. While it would have been nice to have a cargo net and all-weather mats, they are not deal-breakers. The new generation of OEM navigation is truly impressive and the build quality seems to be top-notch. Overall, I can't find anything to dislike about this vehicle!
-
The interior may feel a bit cramped for older, mature adults, and entry and exit can be a bit difficult.
-
Firstly, let's start with the good stuff. The exterior of the car is sleek and attractive, which receives a lot of compliments. After getting used to the CVT transmission, I appreciate the smoothness it provides. The seats are also very comfortable. However, there are some downsides to the car. The defrost is not very effective, even after trying hot and cold air. The tires are cheap and have shown wear in less than 3000 miles. Although the radio controls on the steering wheel allow you to turn on and change stations, you cannot turn it off (unlike my husband's Sentra, which is a step down, but has this feature). The car gets decent mileage on trips, but not overall. The computer reading says 27 mpg tank average, but the actual is more like 20-21. Lastly, there is a clunking sound near the right front tire when starting out, and the mechanic says it's something resetting. It's a bit weird. Overall, it's a mix of good and bad. This is our first Nissan, so only time will tell.

I've been driving my Altima 2.5 Sedan for over a year now and while it may not be the car for everyone, it has served me well. Although it may not be the most powerful car out there, it gets the job done. While the front seats may not be the most comfortable, they are still manageable. There have been a few rattles and squeaks from the interior and exterior, but nothing too concerning. The car can be prone to understeer, but with careful driving, it's not a major issue. While the CVT may take some getting used to, it's not a deal breaker. The blind spot at the driver's A pillar can be a bit of a challenge, but with proper adjustments, it's manageable. The trunk hinges may not be ideal, but they still get the job done. Overall, I have had a positive experience with my Altima 2.5 Sedan.

This Nissan Altima is a really nice vehicle. It has been well-maintained by its single owner over the past 10 years, and I hope it will continue to be a reliable car. The interior is extremely clean, and it drives smoothly. The mechanic mentioned that it may need new struts at some point and a CVT transmission fluid change in the next few thousand miles, but other than that, it doesn't require any additional work at the moment.
Jacinto Welch 2024-08-19
I came across many reviews on this website and noticed that the Altima had received really good ratings. I purchased the basic model a few months ago, but unfortunately, I can't say that I'm impressed with it so far. If you're looking for a car with a lot of horsepower, this might not be the one for you. The unique transmission seems to gear down on takeoff, which makes the car feel like it has even less horsepower. Additionally, if you need to step on the gas, be prepared for a loud roar from the engine noise, which can be quite unpleasant. I bought the car brand new, and as you know, the economics of buying a new car means that I'll lose a lot of money if I trade it in.

I recently purchased this car, but unfortunately experienced a coolant leak that affected the cylinders. Nissan had to replace the shortblock engine, which has caused a delay in receiving my car. I am hopeful that once I receive it, it will be in good condition. If not, I may consider trading it in for an Accord or Camry.

As a tall driver who needs to sit upright and values headroom, I was disappointed to find that the Altima requires the sunroof (sports package) before I could order the premium package (leather seats, backup camera, auto climate control..things that I wanted). This is especially frustrating since the Altima has the most headroom of 6 cylinder sedans. I strongly suggest that sunroofs should not be mandated before other options can be added. Despite this issue, I have found the Altima to be a nice car for tall drivers, with modest road noise and a more US car-like ride than some reviews suggest (less harsh than my 2003 Maxima).
