2007 Nissan Altima problems
The Nissan Altima is a mid-size car manufactured by Nissan since 1992. It is a continuation of the Nissan Bluebird line, which began in 1955.
The Altima has historically been larger, more powerful, and more luxurious than the Nissan Sentra but less so than the Nissan Maxima. The first through fourth-generation cars were manufactured exclusively in the United States and officially sold in North and South America, along with the Middle East and Australia. For other markets, Nissan sold a related mid-size sedan called the Nissan Teana which was between the Altima and Maxima in terms of size. In 2013, the Teana became a rebadged version of the fifth-generation Altima.
The name "Altima" was originally applied to a top trim line of the Nissan Leopard for the Japanese market in 1986, and then to the Nissan Laurel mid-size car sold in Central America and the Caribbean before 1992. In 1992, Nissan discontinued the Stanza which was a Nissan Bluebird clone, replacing it with the US-built Altima, while remaining a compact car. The first Altima was produced in June 1992, as a 1993 model. All Altima models for the North American market were built in Smyrna, Tennessee, until June 2004, when Nissan's Canton, Mississippi plant also began producing the model to meet high demand.

Common 2007 Nissan Altima problems
The Nissan Altima 2007 has been reported to have several common problems, including issues with the crankshaft or camshaft sensor, catalytic converter failure, engine starting problems, transmission issues, acceleration problems, and CVT transmission issues.
One of the most commonly reported Nissan Altima problems is related to the crankshaft or camshaft sensor. Drivers have reported that the crankshaft or camshaft position sensor would fail, resulting in the engine stalling. Depending on the model, some sensors have been recalled by Nissan, so be sure to check if your model is on that list. If it is, replacement of your failed sensors could be covered.
Transmission issues are also a significant concern for Nissan Altima drivers. Some drivers have reported that the vehicle’s continuously variable transmission (CVT) is causing shuddering or jerking when driving. In some cases, drivers have even reported total transmission failure, especially in earlier models. The warranty for Altimas from 2007 to 2010 was extended due to this CVT issue.
Another concerning issue that drivers have reported is that their Nissan Altima won’t accelerate, typically experienced when the car is going 55 mph or above. This issue could be due to a wide variety of reasons, including the mass airflow sensor, the oxygen sensor, and the fuel filter, among other things.
Catalytic converter failure is another common problem reported by Nissan Altima drivers. Drivers who have experienced this issue likely caught it once the Check Engine light was illuminated. If your Check Engine light comes on, be sure to take it in to get looked at right away.
Nissan consumers have been dealing with CVT transmission issues since the 2007 model. Nissan is aware of the issue and amended its warranty coverage for the CVT transmission to address the problem.
The 2013 Nissan Altima has the most overall complaints, and the most-reported problem is with the 2009 Nissan Altima for steering wheel lock failure. The worst Nissan Altima problems include CVT shuttering, vibration, hesitation, and running roughly, steering wheel lock failure, and transmission failure.
In summary, the Nissan Altima 2007 has several common problems, including issues with the crankshaft or camshaft sensor, catalytic converter failure, engine starting problems, transmission issues, acceleration problems, and CVT transmission issues. Nissan consumers have been dealing with CVT transmission issues since the 2007 model, and the company has amended its warranty coverage for the CVT transmission to address the problem.
Is a 2007 Nissan Altima a good car?
Overall, we believe the 2007 redesign has established the Nissan Altima as a premier choice once again. It bests the Mazda 6, another sporty favorite of ours, in terms of passenger room and power. It's also more refined than other midsize sedans like the Mitsubishi Galant and Chevy Malibu.
Do 2007 Nissan Altimas have transmission problems?
However, early Nissan CVTs were prone to several issues. These problems were particularly common in Altima models from the 2007 to 2010 model years. As a result, Nissan extended the powertrain warranty for these vehicles to 10 years or 120,000 miles.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-07-05
- VIN: 1N4BL21E07C
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: The dashboard is cracking. This causes me concern regarding the airbag and if it will function properly if ever needed. The entire dash has a crack the runs the length left to right and it makes it appear the bottom portion will fall to the floor one day. I started noticing this over the summer. I saw that in Florida there was a class action to fix it. I just think it’s odd because this is an extra car that we no longer drive daily. It stays in a garage out of weather and so it should be perfect. We kept the car for our daughter who is now 16 and will be using it as she starts driving.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-11-26
- VIN: 1N4AL21E67N
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: The Transmission failed at 51,000 miles. It has not come to a grinding halt yet but poses a safety hazard on any long trips. It was only a strange noise that varied with the acceleration that tipped us off that there might be a problem. The car is 14 years old now but my wife put very few miles on it and it still should be working. Regularly maintained by my local Nissan dealer for the lifespan of the car. Having now seen many other notices on Nissan transmissions for this and other model years you think Nissan would have recalled the cars and addressed the problem. I am very disappointed with Nissan and will buy another brand for my wife's next car.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-09-18
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 1N4CL21E57C
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: As I was driving north on the 101 in the Carpinteria area, I attempted to brake for a construction zone slowdown. I had about 100ft to brake and was going 50mph compared to the 25mph of the cars up ahead. When I pressed the brakes, they did not fully engage and rather appeared to 'slip'. It felt like the brakes were engaged but not limiting the slow of the car in a significant manner. I rear-ended the car in front of me causing that car to hit the car in front of it. I could smell a strong burnt smell during and after the event. The car and brake piece are still available for inspection for another week or so until insurance is done investigating the car for the report, at which point it will be signed over to the scrapyard where it is currently being held (Steelhead Auto Recycler). This incident absolutely endangered my own life and the lives of the individuals of multiple vehicles around me. If I were going 10mph more than I was at the time I wouldn't be typing this message right now. I had absolutely no control over the speed of the car, and because of the construction there was no way to avoid the car in front of me. The lives of the family in the car in front of me were also especially endangered. The specific piece is not being inspected by the manufacturer or the police, although it possibly could be investigated once insurance does follow up with the report. There were no warnings that this was going to occur. In fact the car had its brakes checked just 2 years prior to this incident and it completely passed inspection with no concerns. Brake failure is not an experience I would wish on anyone in the world. It is absolutely petrifying in the moment and can result in devastation of so many lives.

After driving a Dodge Neon, you can really appreciate the roominess of the Nissan Altima. It provides a smooth ride and has the looks of a luxury car. It's definitely the best car purchase you've made to date!
-
I have owned this car for 11 years and I absolutely love driving it. Although the miles are getting up there, I was considering buying a new one to keep some trade-in value. However, I just can't bring myself to give it up yet! As long as it keeps running smoothly, this will continue to be my trusty get-around-town vehicle!
-
I looked at everything from Corolla to LS. This is easily the best value on the market. It has good handling, great interior room, all the gadgets, and it looks good (when you add some decent aftermarket wheels). If the long term reliability is good, then this will be a real benchmark.
-
I bought this car in March 2011 to replace my 2006 Toyota Corolla S. While the Corolla was a great car, I needed something bigger with more legroom (I'm over 6ft!). This car has exceeded my expectations with its spacious interior, comfortable ride, and sporty handling. The 2.5L 4-cylinder engine is surprisingly powerful and has excellent passing power, feeling like a V6 and even as quick as some V6's. Although I've been averaging 22.5 mpg, which is not as high as they say, I do more spirited driving and love to feel the great power of the 4 cylinder. I highly recommend this car for those of you who need a sedan but still want that sporty handling.
-
My experience with this car has been excellent! I really like the style, the way it is built, and all of its features.

Despite regular maintenance, this car experienced significant issues, including a rattling noise, a constantly illuminated check engine light, and ultimately a failed transmission and catalytic converter. Additionally, the exterior paint has deteriorated and the interior is cracked and falling apart. These issues suggest a lack of quality in the car's manufacturing and design.

I recently purchased a 2007 Altima 2.5SL with a 6 CD Boss System and 53200 miles on it. While I'm getting 26.3 miles per gallon combined city and highway, which is a bit lower than the advertised 32, I'm still happy with the fuel efficiency. However, I have noticed that the road noise is quite noticeable. It seems that Nissan decided to skimp on sound insulation when building the door panels and the car as a whole. Additionally, I find the seats to be uncomfortable on longer drives of 30 minutes or more. I hope that Nissan has addressed these issues and other concerns that consumers have raised since the 2007 redesign. Overall, I believe that Nissan should invest in quality materials to create a better product and avoid selling cheap products that are not worth more than 24K. Even at that price point, the Nissan Altima falls short of expectations.

Hi there! I recently purchased an 07 Altima with only 109k miles and all the service records. Unfortunately, it died on me at the grocery store within a week of buying it. I thought it was just the battery since the starter was clicking, so I got a new one and started driving it to my mechanic. However, it lost power and wouldn't go unless I turned it off and back on. I took it to Brakes Plus and got a new alternator, but it lost power again after driving it for only a mile. After speaking with Nissan, I found out that the 07 Altima has a known issue with the transmission and that the RE0F10A CVT Automatic Transmission Valve Body needs to be replaced. It's not a recall unfortunately, but I'm hopeful that this will fix the problem. I've already spent $2100 on this car, but I'm still optimistic. Thanks for listening!
