The Nissan Altima is a mid-size car manufactured by Nissan since 1992. It is a continuation of the Nissan Bluebird line, which began in 1955.

The Altima has historically been larger, more powerful, and more luxurious than the Nissan Sentra but less so than the Nissan Maxima. The first through fourth-generation cars were manufactured exclusively in the United States and officially sold in North and South America, along with the Middle East and Australia. For other markets, Nissan sold a related mid-size sedan called the Nissan Teana which was between the Altima and Maxima in terms of size. In 2013, the Teana became a rebadged version of the fifth-generation Altima.

The name "Altima" was originally applied to a top trim line of the Nissan Leopard for the Japanese market in 1986, and then to the Nissan Laurel mid-size car sold in Central America and the Caribbean before 1992. In 1992, Nissan discontinued the Stanza which was a Nissan Bluebird clone, replacing it with the US-built Altima, while remaining a compact car. The first Altima was produced in June 1992, as a 1993 model. All Altima models for the North American market were built in Smyrna, Tennessee, until June 2004, when Nissan's Canton, Mississippi plant also began producing the model to meet high demand.

IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE SUBFRAME WAS SO BADLY CORRODED BY RUST THAT THE FRAME HAD PERFORATED AND BROKEN AWAY FROM THE SUSPENSION. THERE ARE HOLES THROUGHOUT AS WELL AS BREAKAGE AND WEAKENING. MONRO MUFFLER RECOMMENDED I CONTACT NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS WHICH I DID. I EXPLAINED THE SITUATION TO NISSAN STATING THE EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE. I WAS DIRECTED BY NISSAN TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A NISSAN DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSIS WHICH I DID. NISSAN OF DARTMOUTH, MA CONFIRMED MONRO MUFFLER'S DIAGNOSIS AND QUOTED A MINIMUM $2,300 TO REPAIR BOTH THE FRONT AND REAR SUBFRAMES. BEVERLY BANSEK OF NISSAN CALLED ME BACK TO INFORM ME THAT NISSAN WOULD DO NOTHING FOR THE REPAIR. I ASKED FOR A SUPERVISOR AND I WAS THEN CONTACTED BY THE REGIONAL SUPERVISOR OF NISSAN, VAUGHN FRANCIS WHO, AFTER REVIEWING MY CLAIM AGAIN, STATED THAT NISSAN WOULD DO NOTHING FOR ME AND THAT THE DISINTEGRATION OF THE SUBFRAMES WAS DUE TO A LACK OF OWNER MAINTENANCE RATHER THAN A DEFECT IN WORKMANSHIP. VAUGHN FRANCIS THEN STATED THAT THERE WAS NO NEED FOR ME TO CALL NISSAN AGAIN AS I WOULD ONLY GET HIM AND THE ANSWER WOULD BE THE SAME AND THAT MY ONLY OPTION WAS TO CONTACT THE BBB AUTOLINE DISPUTE RESOLUTION DIVISION AT 1-800-955-5100 WHICH I HAVE DONE. TWO NISSAN DEALERSHIPS STATE THERE IS NO OWNER MAINTENANCE RECOMMENDED ON THE SUBFRAMES OF NISSAN'S VEHICLES. IT IS MY BELIEF THAT THE FAILURE OF THE SUBFRAMES IS DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION OF THE SUBFRAME WHICH HAS LEAD TO PERFORATION POSSIBLY FROM THE INSIDE OUT AND BECAUSE THIS IS AN ISSUE OF WORKMANSHIP, NISSAN SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED FOR A POSSIBLE SAFETY RELATED DEFECT RESULTING FROM INADEQUATE MANUFACTURER'S CORROSIVE RESISTANT PROTECTION AND/OR SUBFRAME DESIGN.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE LAST TIME THE FAILURE OCCURRED, THE FUEL GAUGE ALSO MALFUNCTIONED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 120,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 182,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

Fortunately, I have not experienced any mechanical issues, as I take great care of my vehicles. Additionally, the car boasts numerous luxury features for its price point. However, I would consider keeping it if it had a V6 engine. Nonetheless, I am excited to explore other options, such as the new 350Z available at dealerships.

    Probably one of the best automobiles I have ever owned! While it may be a bit bland for some, if you value reliability and comfort, then this is the perfect car for you. I have had some minor problems with the electrical components, such as the passenger power window and keyless entry system not working, but they were all covered under warranty. Other than that, I have been extremely satisfied with my Altima. Although, I do wish they had given it a V6 option!

    I bought this car for my wife, but unfortunately, after 6 months, she didn't like the way it felt in relatively light cross winds. On the bright side, the car gets decent mileage (25-27 mpg on regular grade) and the 2.4L provides adequate power. The handling is so-so and the ride is busy. I've had to replace a serpentine belt idler pulley twice, but otherwise, the reliability has been good. The original Firestone tires (16 inch) were awful, but now we're running Kuhmo's which are great value. If you're looking for a car for commuting, this is a good option, but if fun to drive is high on your list, you might want to look elsewhere.

However, it seems like there have been some issues with the exterior body, particularly the front and back bumpers, as well as the front quarter-panel. Additionally, it's worth noting that Altimas tend to have some trouble with their power windows, specifically with the switches on the doors, motors, and regulators. On the bright side, the engine is truly exceptional - it's reliable, smooth, and powerful.

    I absolutely love my Altima! I bought it brand new and it has been a joy to drive ever since. Back in 1999, I had the chance to drive a rental Altima on a business trip and I was immediately smitten. It's amazing how I might have never discovered this car otherwise. With over 150,000 miles on it, I've only had to replace the water pump and radiator, which is a testament to how reliable this car is. Even after a decade, I still feel comfortable taking it on long road trips and it still looks fantastic! The engine is a bit sluggish with the AC on or when it's fully loaded, but that's to be expected from a 2.0L engine. Overall, I couldn't be happier with my Altima!

    I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with my car. I've had it since it was brand new and overall it's been great. The only issue I've had is that the Firestone tires didn't last as long as I had hoped, wearing out in less than 35,000 miles. Additionally, the brakes were quite loud for the first few miles. Despite these minor issues, I would still highly recommend this car to anyone. It currently has 70K miles on it and is still running strong!

    I leased this car a little over two years ago and have put 35,000 miles on it so far with absolutely no problems. The gas mileage is great, averaging around 28 and up to 39 mph, never less than 25. The 155 ponies are plenty to haul this car quickly off the line. The cornering is second to none for any car in this class, but replacing the stock tires (they suck) will make it even better. The interior is simple yet comfortable with plenty of room. The ride is very smooth and quiet. It's a very fun car to drive and has plenty of room. It looks nice, drives nice, and is cheap to operate. I'm definitely buying this when my lease is up.

    I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with my Altima. I bought it back in 2001 with 12,000 miles on it, and now it has 158,000 miles and still going strong! It's been such a reliable car for me. I have the 5-speed manual and it's really fun and zippy to drive. The exterior paint has always been a bit of an issue, but if you're looking for a car that will get you from point A to point B without any issues, you really can't go wrong with this one. :)
