2012 Suzuki Grand vitara problems

The Suzuki Vitara is a series of SUVs produced by Suzuki in five generations since 1988. The second and third generation were known as the Suzuki Grand Vitara, while the fourth generation eschewing the "Grand" prefix. In Japan and a number of other markets, all generations have used the name Suzuki Escudo (Japanese: スズキ・エスクード, Hepburn: Suzuki Esukūdo).
The choice of the name "Vitara" was inspired by the Latin word vita, as in English word vitality. "Escudo", the name primarily used in the Japanese Domestic Market, refers to the "escudo", the monetary unit of Portugal before adoption of the Euro. The original series was designed to fill the slot above the Suzuki Jimny. The first generation was known as Suzuki Sidekick in the United States. The North American version was produced as a joint venture between Suzuki and General Motors known as CAMI. It was also sold as the Santana 300 and 350 in Spain and in the Japanese market, it was also sold as the Mazda Proceed Levante.
The second generation was launched in 1998 under the "Grand Vitara" badge in most markets. It was accompanied by a still larger SUV known as the Suzuki XL-7 (known as Grand Escudo in Japan). The third generation was launched in 2005.
The fourth generation, released in 2015, reverted to the original name "Vitara" in most markets, but shifted from an off-road SUV towards a more road-oriented crossover style. It shares the platform and many components with the slightly larger SX4 S-Cross.
The model introduced in 2022 for the Indian market only reuses the "Grand Vitara" nameplate. It is slightly larger than the SX4 S-Cross.

All second letters notifying owners of the remedy were mailed by April 10, 2020. Owners may contact Suzuki customer service at 1-800-934-0934. Suzuki's numbers for this recall are 4011 and 4012.

After driving 2,700 miles in 3 months, I can confidently say that this vehicle is of great quality. It drives smoothly, is fairly quiet and comfortable, and I'm getting an impressive 26.5mpg. Shifting gears with the easy-to-use manual transmission is a breeze. There's plenty of room inside and the side-opening rear door is very convenient. It's a shame that the nearest dealership is over 40 miles away, but I haven't had any issues so far. I bought it as a used leftover from a former Suzuki dealer with under 100 miles on the odometer. Although the books and navigation were lost, I got a great deal. I don't even miss the options that I don't have.

(Too many updates so this may not read smoothly.) Hi there! I bought my Grand Vitara new for $15k in 2011 (last one on the lot) and it was a steal. Although the former Suzuki dealership lost the GPS and owners manual, I use my iPhone for GPS and Googled the manual. I've owned it for almost 8 years and it just turned 56,000 miles with no problems. I live in the Phoenix, Arizona area where it’s fairly flat and 25 MPG is normal. Being the base model, it has a 5-speed manual and rear-wheel drive and that does the job. I've never towed anything and it doesn’t have roof rails so I don’t know how it would be for hauling. The cargo room is good and the side-opening rear gate is perfect for me. The front seats are not very comfortable after an hour of sitting although I did add sheepskin seat covers. I've gone through three sets of tires so far — the original Yokohama’s wore out quickly, then the Hankooks, and now the Goodyears are getting old and need replacing. However, I've had NO problems until the headlight relays. It’s reliable and has never let me down. It still looks good and the paint hasn’t oxidized (always garaged). I use synthetic oil and drive about 10,000 miles between changes. Road and tire noise isn’t too bad. Our other car is a Cadillac CT6 AWD so I’m familiar with comfort and quiet. It’s a good car; probably not much resale value anymore but it just keeps running. I also got a 2021 Buick Enclave Avenue but kept the Suzuki. Annual tags and insurance are cheaper the older it gets so for a few hundred dollars a year I’ll keep it. Fourth battery in 12 years, but no problems. I’ll keep it for now. My base model Grand Vitara isn’t fancy. The base model only comes in black. It’s a 5-speed manual without cruise control. I’ve had it for over 12 years and put 60,000 miles on it and it’s my local run-around vehicle. It was marked down from an overpriced $23k sticker to $15k as it was the last Suzuki on the dealer’s lot. Some things were missing, like the standard nav and the owner’s manual but the markdown made up for it.I had never experienced any issues with my Grand Vitara until 2022, when the hi & lo beam headlight relays stopped working. While I don't want to complain about the vehicle, I was surprised by the high cost of the relays at auto parts stores ($35-45/ea). Fortunately, I found them on Amazon for less than $20 for 2. The seats can be uncomfortable during long drives, so I added sheepskin covers with extra padding. This has helped with comfort, and my seat fabric still looks like new underneath. Before purchasing the Grand Vitara, I read every review I could find. The main complaint seemed to be about the left-side opening hatch, but I personally like it. The vehicle gets about 20-25mpg, and while it's not geared for high speed or economy, it does have a timing chain instead of a belt. The spare tire is hung on the hatch, and I have a bike carrier that straps onto it. The Grand Vitara also has 4-wheel disc brakes, which is not all that common in 2010. While it doesn't have any of the now-standard Nannies, it does have single climate control, anti-lock brakes, and electronic stability control. Overall, I find the Grand Vitara to be a convenient size for 1 or 2 people, with room for 2 more if necessary.

Hi there! I'm thrilled to hear that you've been a Suzuki owner for over 2 years now! First with the SX4 Crossover and now with the 2010 Grand Vitara, that's amazing! I couldn't agree more that Suzuki is far underrated. I'm so glad to hear that the new 2010 Grand Vitara is a dream to drive. It's great to know that it gets around 24 to 25 mpg on the highway and around 20 around town. Plus, it's highway quiet and all the features are very functional. I'm impressed that your base model is equipped with navigation, bluetooth, msn traffic and fm traffic, all function through the radio speakers. How nice! Comfort is outstanding too. I would definitely recommend giving this small SUV a second look. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

There's not much wrong with this compact SUV, especially when compared to larger and more expensive models. The handling is good and it has a great turning radius for tight spots. If you haven't owned a small SUV before, it's worth giving careful consideration to. Of course, it's not going to handle like a sports car at highway speeds, but it's great for around town and trips. The body style is great and it has lots of safety features, making it a good value for the price. The only thing that could have made it better is another 2 inches in the cargo area.

I recently bought a 2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara with 120259 miles from a private seller. I must say that this vehicle has exceeded my expectations. The performance is fantastic, and the steering and driving experience have been an absolute joy, especially on overdrive. It takes off like an airplane! I loved the Suzuki Grand Vitara so much that I decided to purchase a 2009 model. It has everything I want in a small SUV and more. Although I haven't driven my new Grand Vitara yet, I have high expectations for it.

We recently purchased a lightly used 2011 GV Limited with only 5700 miles on the odometer. After owning it for two months and putting another 1500 miles on it, we have discovered what we like and what we don't. Firstly, we absolutely love the unique look of the car. It's refreshing to have something different from the typical RAV4, CRV, or Forester that everyone else seems to own around here. The seats are comfortable, the stereo is great, and the standard GPS is a nice touch. Although the ride can be a bit rough at times, it's still manageable. However, we did notice that the rear seat is a bit more cramped and the cargo space is lacking compared to our Forester. Additionally, the gas mileage is not great. We knew that we would be taking a hit on mpg's compared to the Subaru we traded in, but we are not even getting the listed mpg. We are currently getting around 16-17 mpg in mixed city/highway driving. Overall, it's a good car for the money.

I recently purchased a 2010 Grand Vitara Premium model with the 4-cylinder engine based on the reviews given here. However, I wanted to share my experience with the AC issue. Unfortunately, these models have a known failing AC issue that can cause the interior compartment to flood if you use the AC. There is a connection that goes through the firewall between the internal AC system and the external drain pipe that will eventually fail. Unfortunately, there is no replaceable part to fix the issue, and you would need to get the entire internal one-piece component. I hope this information helps you make an informed decision.

Congratulations on your new purchase! I understand that the quality/reliability rating may not be relevant to you at this time. From the reviews, it seems that the only small crossovers that can handle off-road terrain are Subarus and the GV, with the GV being slightly better. It's great that you were able to find a vehicle that met your needs, even with the 6 cylinder option being sold out in your region. The Suzuki rebate and dealer willingness to negotiate made it a good deal for you. I hope you enjoy the nice interior and off-road capabilities of your new GV. Best of luck with its reliability!
Jamison Reinger 2024-07-23
The car is a great off-roader in its class, beating out competitors like the RAV4, HR-V, Santa-Fe, and possibly even the Mitsubishi (although I'm not entirely sure about that one). While it may not excel on the road, it does offer some interior creature comforts that I really appreciate, such as the great visibility. However, it can be quite noisy, particularly due to the engine noise. It can be a bit overwhelming, especially when driving uphill, and it feels like the car is struggling to pull its weight. Despite these issues, overall it's a decent car with some room for improvement.

Hi there! I've had this car for 2 years now, but I've been having some trouble with the engine. It's been a bit difficult to start at times, and unfortunately, it's stopped working altogether now. Luckily, I have an extended warranty, but I'm still a bit frustrated about the situation. I might consider trading it in for a different brand. Thanks for listening!
