1999 Nissan Altima problems
The Nissan Altima is a mid-size car manufactured by Nissan since 1992. It is a continuation of the Nissan Bluebird line, which began in 1955.
The Altima has historically been larger, more powerful, and more luxurious than the Nissan Sentra but less so than the Nissan Maxima. The first through fourth-generation cars were manufactured exclusively in the United States and officially sold in North and South America, along with the Middle East and Australia. For other markets, Nissan sold a related mid-size sedan called the Nissan Teana which was between the Altima and Maxima in terms of size. In 2013, the Teana became a rebadged version of the fifth-generation Altima.
The name "Altima" was originally applied to a top trim line of the Nissan Leopard for the Japanese market in 1986, and then to the Nissan Laurel mid-size car sold in Central America and the Caribbean before 1992. In 1992, Nissan discontinued the Stanza which was a Nissan Bluebird clone, replacing it with the US-built Altima, while remaining a compact car. The first Altima was produced in June 1992, as a 1993 model. All Altima models for the North American market were built in Smyrna, Tennessee, until June 2004, when Nissan's Canton, Mississippi plant also began producing the model to meet high demand.

Hey there! I noticed that my car has 80k miles now, and I wanted to let you know that it's a really reliable option if you're looking for something trustworthy. However, I do want to mention that it doesn't have all the bells and whistles that some other cars might have. For example, the 'leather' feels a bit fake, and it doesn't come with some of the amenities that you might find in other vehicles that are similarly priced. Additionally, the exterior has a bit of a rough paint job and scratches pretty easily. Finally, I've noticed that the interior has some weak plastic parts, like the door handles and console area. Just wanted to give you the heads up! Let me know if you have any questions.

This is a friendly little car. We are thrilled to report that we have not received a single complaint about it. We purchased this car just two months after buying a Maxima to replace my wife's ailing four-year-old Saturn with relatively low miles. I have driven it myself and found no issues with its performance, even after driving the Maxima. I absolutely adore this car and feel completely at ease with my wife and 21-month-old daughter in it, especially when driving around town. It is both safe and reliable.

I'm so glad you found your Altima! It sounds like you put a lot of effort into finding the perfect car for you. The features of the car are definitely a selling point, and it's great that you were able to find a car that was close in fuel efficiency to your previous one. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Not the fanciest or prettiest, but this car will give you zero problems and is easy to drive.

I bought this car two years ago and I have put in some long work days with it. I put on about 30,000 miles a year on this car and all I have done to it is change the oil and tires. I have 81,000 miles on it without any problems.

The Altima SE has the potential to be one of the best cars in its class in terms of performance. I have been driving the 5-speed manual model and while it may not have the best pick up, it has a fast mid-speed. I was able to drive it at 190 Km/Hr and it felt very stable. Additionally, the car has a good stereo with excellent speakers. However, I do have some concerns about the quality. The leather seats look cheap and I would suggest that Nissan should conduct more wind tunnel testing before releasing their future models. The car can be quite noisy on windy days and when driving on highways, and there is also a metallic noise that comes from the timing chain.
Joseph Koepp 2024-09-19
I understand your experience with your Altima has had its ups and downs. While it is reliable and gets good gas mileage at around 25-28 mpg, I can see how the expensive replacement parts, hard and uncomfortable seats, truck-like turning radius, and non-Bose stereo can be frustrating. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me.
Justen Daniel 2024-02-26
I would definitely choose a refurbished car over a new one. This 5-speed manual car shifts well, although it can be a bit balky in 1st gear. It has plenty of spunk and is easy to maintain with routine maintenance. Over the last 5 years, I have had to replace the alternator (which came with a core charge refund, so it wasn't too expensive), the belt tensioner, and the radiator (which cost less than $100 and I was able to install it myself at home). I have also had some suspension work done. The factory tires were the weak link, but the trunk space is good and the positioning is very comfortable for a short driver like myself (I'm 5'2
