2017 Bmw X3 problems
The BMW X3 is an SUV manufactured by BMW since 2003, based on the BMW 5 Series platform. Now in its third generation, BMW markets the car as a Sports Activity Vehicle, the company's proprietary descriptor for its X-line luxury vehicles.
The first-generation X3 was designed by BMW in conjunction with Magna Steyr of Graz, Austria—who also manufactured all X3s under contract to BMW. BMW manufactured the second-generation X3 at their Spartanburg plant in South Carolina, United States. Starting with the third generation, BMW South Africa's Rosslyn plant began production of the X3, alongside the Spartanburg plant, after the facility underwent a major upgrade to prepare for the X3 production, replacing the long-running 3 Series production in the plant. About 76,000 units will be manufactured there annually.
The car was the first mid-size, premium SUV on the market. In 2008, BMW started competing with the Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class (renamed GLC-Class since 2016), and numerous other SUVs in this segment. The X3 is smaller than the X5 and X6, and bigger than the X1 and the X2.
An all-electric variant is sold as the BMW iX3.

Common 2017 Bmw X3 problems
The BMW X3 2017 is a compact luxury SUV that has been praised for its performance and features. However, like any vehicle, it is not without its issues. Here are some of the most common problems reported by owners of the BMW X3 2017:
- Restricted fuel supply: A problem in the fuel tank of examples made from 16 August 2016 and 21 January 2018 could lead to restrictions in the fuel supply and cause the engine to stall. If your car is affected by this, it will need to have the fuel system inspected by a dealer in order for repairs to be carried out.
- Isofix restraints: The rear Isofix restraints on cars constructed between 1 August 2010 and 15 April 2016 could work loose over time. A BMW dealer will be able to tell you if your car is subject to this recall and book the car in for repairs. To prevent this from happening again, additional reinforcements will need to be welded to the mounting points.
- Front passenger airbag: A small number of X3s built before 2013 could have a problem with the front passenger airbag not deploying correctly in a collision, so contact your BMW dealer to find out if your car is affected by this.
- Power steering failure: An electrical issue with the power steering system could cause it to fail on X3s built between 19 September 2011 and 8 December 2015. The driver may notice heavier steering than usual if it does fail. Affected examples will need to have a new power steering system fitted to fix the fault.
- EGR cooler: There have been three recalls for leaking EGR coolers and apply to various models built between 5 August 2010 and 24 October 2017. With such a broad timescale, contact your dealer for further information, because you'll need to have the vehicle inspected if it is suspected to be one of those affected.
- Broken timing chain guide: The timing chain guide of the X3 is made of plastic, while the timing chain is metal. The plastic guides of the X3 make them prone to premature wear and failure. With a broken timing chain guide, the engine’s timing is compromised and may lead to engine failure.
- Sunroof leaks and rattles: The issue was prevalent with the first-gen X3. According to the complaints, the sunroof would create an irritating sound whenever the sunroof is opened. In some cases, the sunroof leaked and required replacement.
- Oil leaks: Frustrated X3 owners complained about the BMW engine’s tendency to leak oil. BMW engines have several plastic components that may develop cracks, resulting in leaks. This is quite common with X3s above 80k mileage.
- Overheating engine: The X3s reportedly had a problematic radiator and cooling expansion tank due to a faulty thermostat or This resulted in coolant leaks which may lead to an overheated engine.
- Faulty window regulator: This failure in the window regulator caused the X3 windows to not properly open or close. While it’s not the most prevalent issue, this was rather annoying for owners because the repairs have cost them hundreds of dollars, not including labor.
- Steering problems: X3 owners with the sports steering feature have reported that their vehicle was harder to control and As such, these steering issues are major safety hazards and increase the risk of accidents.
- Problematic EGR systems: Fairly common in second-gen X3s with diesel engines. If you have the base level N47 four-cylinder engine, know that it can be a nightmare to maintain. Specifically, the EGR system of both diesel variants can malfunction and return the exhaust gasses into the intake. Symptoms include rough idling, decreased performance, fuel smell, increased fuel consumption, and stalling while idling.
In conclusion, while the BMW X3 2017 is a popular and capable SUV, it is not without its issues. Owners have reported problems with the rear spoiler, fuel supply, Isofix restraints, front passenger airbag, power steering, EGR cooler, timing chain guide, sunroof, oil leaks, overheating engine, faulty window regulator, steering problems, and problematic EGR systems. If you are considering purchasing a BMW X3 2017, it is important to be aware of these potential issues and to have them addressed by a qualified BMW dealer or mechanic.

- Crash: 1
- VIN: 5UXWZ7C54H0
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: As I was pulling into my assigned parking spot in my building complex. Both me and my 6yr old daughter were in the vehicle. As I was pulling into my parking spot and went to brake and put my vehicle in park- my brakes locked, gave out and the vehicle continued to proceed forward. As it proceeded forwarded, I immediately kept trying to brake- but because the vehicle is all wheel drive it accelerated forward pushing through the concrete parking bumper guard located on the floor of the parking spot. Because of the acceleration, the vehicle crashed into the storage units connected to the building structure. I immediately tried reversing and forced the car into park without braking. Thankfully my daughter was still in her car seat. It was terrifying and we were in so much panic and scared. My neighbors came to our rescue- because I was distraught knowing that we had literally just come off of the highway and that could have happened at any point with my child in the car. My insurance is able to cover the damages - but, the auto repairs do not consist of checking the brakes/malfunction. I cannot see myself staying with this vehicle and putting the safety of myself and daughter in jeopardy. I am praying that BMW takes the necessary measures to assist in addressing this

Honestly, I love the BMW brand, but I have to admit that the x3 did not quite live up to my expectations of an SUV. I was hoping for a more authentic SUV experience, but the x3 feels more like a car to me.

This is my second BMW, and unfortunately, I experienced some issues with it. Three days after purchasing the car, it broke down, which was concerning. I trusted the BMW dealership when they said it was a simple fix, but it turned out to be more complicated than that. Nine months later, the car broke down again with the same issue, the Chassis Stabilization Malfunction. The car has some major issues with the electrical power steering system, making it unsafe to drive. As the car was a trade-in, I assume the previous owner had the same issue. I had BMW replace the EPS, which cost around 8,000. Although the car looked beautiful on the outside, it was not valuable under the hood. I recommend checking all the recalls listed for X3, as this model has some serious issues.

Technology controls can be a bit counter-intuitive and hard to get used to at first, but don't worry, you'll get the hang of it in no time! The car's miles per gallon may be a bit low, so you can expect higher gas bills, but there are ways to improve fuel efficiency. While not all options may be working as they should, we'll do our best to address any issues you may have. Although the car is highly customizable, some desired features may not be available. We understand that finding out about the cost of run-flat tires after purchasing the car can be frustrating, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We always strive to be transparent with our customers and will do our best to provide you with all the information you need upfront.

The car still costs the same, but the warranty drops from 4 years 50k to 3 Years 36K. I'm disappointed with BMW's decision. After my lease, I'm considering switching to a different model. I've already switched one of my vehicles. I hope BMW takes customer feedback into account and improves their warranty policy.

On New York state roads, which are unfortunately known for their blacktop patches and potholes, my 5-year-old X3 with 50,000 miles can be quite a bumpy ride.
