2015 Hyundai Elantra problems
The Hyundai Elantra, also known as the Hyundai Avante (Korean: 현대 아반떼), is a compact car produced by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai since 1990. The Elantra was initially marketed as the Lantra in Australia and some European markets. In Australia, this was due to the similarly named Mitsubishi Magna Elante model; similarly, in other markets, the name Avante is not used due to its similarity with Audi's "Avant" designation, which is used for their line-up of station wagons. The name was standardized as "Elantra" worldwide in 2001 (except in South Korea and Singapore).
First generation (J1; 1990)
The Elantra (codename J1) was launched in October 1990, and received a mid-term facelift in 1993.
It was sold in Europe from the spring of 1991. It replaced the somewhat larger on the outside Stellar, although that model had not been offered in many markets. The Elantra competed with the likes of the Ford Sierra and Vauxhall Cavalier/Opel Vectra, but at a considerably lower price.
The Elantra was powered by a Mitsubishi-designed 1.6 L (1595 cc) straight-four. This DOHC 16-valve 1.6 L unit produced 113 PS (83 kW) at 6000 rpm and could push the Elantra to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 9.5 seconds. The quarter-mile (0.4 km) run took 17.1 seconds and produced 129 km/h (80 mph). Top speed was 187 km/h (116 mph). The Elantra got 22 mpg‑US (11 L/100 km) in the city cycle. Starting in 1993 a Mitsubishi-designed 1.8 L (1836 cc) inline-four option was available; this unit produces 135 PS (99 kW) at 6000 rpm and replaced the twin-cam 1.6 in the home market.

- Subpar Starter:

One of the most common issues reported is faulty speed sensors causing incorrect shifting in automatic transmissions. This can result in poor driving performance, safety concerns, and the need for costly repairs if not addressed promptly. - Engine Problems:
Engine issues have been a significant concern for owners, with reports of a failed canister purge valve leading to a check engine light. Additionally, problems like stalling or engine failure due to a faulty crankshaft angle sensor have been highlighted. These engine-related issues can impact the car's performance, reliability, and safety.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-09
- VIN: 5NPDH4AE9FH
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: Car will accelerate and get stuck in a high gear rpm gauge will not work as well You will come to a stop not knowing you are stuck in a high gear car will not downshift. I tried to cross the intersection from a stop and almost got hit because I could barely accelerate. I was stuck in 5th gear. Car will also stall while stuck in in a high gear at a stop I can turn off the vehicle and start it and it will reset the car to normal. It will drive fine for a while. Randomly this will happen. From my research I found this is a common problem with many different model years of Hyundai's . Most people say the solution is a new crankshaft sensor . When I ran a diagnostics There are no error codes for this problem. Many other individuals with this problem have said the same from many different online forums I have read. Other individuals I've said they were also stuck in the high gear at a stop and did not know until they accelerated. Some have been in accidents because of this issue. I would assume Hyundai would be aware of this. If there's not a recall on this, I believe there should be.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-25
- VIN: KMHDH4AE9FU
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: About 6 weeks ago, my car engine began to turn off while driving. Warning lights flash on the gauge cluster. The vehicle has limited mobility for 20–30 seconds, then loses all power. This was incredibly dangerous when driving at highway speeds, as the car simply stopped. There were no warning lights or issues before this began happening. I took it to a local mechanic who identified several error messages and replaced the battery, throttle, sensors, and other parts, but the problem persisted. They could not identify the cause but verified the problem. I took the car to the Skagit, WAHyundai dealership, where they determined it was a failure in the oil pump. This exact problem is under an active recall for other Hyundai Elantra model years.

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-27
- VIN: KMHDH4AE5FU
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: Due to CDK Global cyberattack, I cannot complete my safety recall of my Hyundai Elantra 2015 (ABS Fuse that can cause engine to explode, according to Hyundai safety recall report). Hyundai does not allow dealerships to keep safety recall parts on hand (or a very small amount). I have to walk into the dealership to order the part. I cannot call to order the part. I have to constantly drive to place of work, home, sit in traffic, with a defective fuse that HyundaiUSA refuses to keep safety recall parts on hand. Please create a NATIONAL policy against manufacturers to have a minimum units (1000 units of fuses, parts, etc) as the safety recall occurs. Because dealerships cannot order parts due to this cyberattack. My mental anguish of driving a vehicle that cannot have a safety recall repaired due to parts not being able to order (especially if they can keep large amounts of units on hand at dealers), is through the roof! I cannot take time off, I have to drive to not be evicted, anything repossessed, etc. and where I live has limited transportation options, (and told to use ride share like Lyft or Uber). Insurance companies is unhelpful. If manufacturers say they cannot keep parts on hand, then how do they ship the parts so quickly, under normal operations? 3rd party mechanic shops cannot order these parts as the manufacturer has to complete the recall repair.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-19
- VIN: KMHD35LH9FU
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

- VIN: 5NPDH4AE5FH
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: I received a notice in the mail of the recall from Hyuandai. I set an appt with Dick Smith Hyandai in Greenville, SC and when I arrived they said they could not do any recall work at the moment due to issues with their computer system and that I should call them again in a few weeks.
STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-08-03
- VIN: 5NPDH4AE2FH
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: i received a Manufacturer's Service Campaign 984 Notice from Hyundai. I made an appointment for a treatment of an underbody cavity wax and undercoating spray to prevent corrosion at King Hyundai in Deerfield Beach, FL, the closest dealer. When I arrived at the dealership I was informed that the correction could not be made because Hyundai did not supply Florida dealers with the needed products. I explained that the vehicle had been used for three years in the Washington DC area and then relocated to Florida. I called Hyundai Customer Car Center at 1-855-371-9460 and was advised that Hyundai did not supply the needed products to any state that did not experience winter weather; I believe she said that was a total of 16 states. As I received a recall notice at my Florida address, please explain why Hyundai is exempt from the recall issued in accordance with federal law.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-27
- VIN: KMHDH4AH9FU
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
- Summary: Within three months of purchasing this vehicle, I started having engine light and oil consumption issues. Within the 4 years of owning, they've replaced the catalytic converter twice, many valves, and others. I had to purchase and add multiple quarts of oil to just maintain oil levels. I've had multiple occasions where my vehicle slowed to only up to 55 miles an hour while on the interstate. The vehicle had issues accelerating where an accident almost occurred because pulling into a shopping plaza, the vehicle couldn't drive up a minor hill and almost remained in the intersection. I've had multiple times where I was stuck on the side of the road in different environments, a few of which I was genuinely worried for my safety. This last incident I did not feel safe to drive where I needed to go so I got off the interstate to travel down a local road where the vehicle stalled in the middle of a 5 lane (one direction) busy road. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership and warranty representatives. The engine and oil lights were the main issues, every time a light came on I reached out to the dealership to get it looked at. I received notice of many engines being recalled and repaired in 2022 yet Hyundai has only put bandaids on my engine.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-04-16
- VIN: 5NPDH4AE6FH
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
- Summary: Reporting my previous VIN in case it helps the new vehicle owner since I am sure they are facing similar defects that I am with my "brand new 2016 Hyundai Elantra". I previously owned a brand new 2015 Hyundai Elantra and had to file a claim after flooding occurred in Kyle, Texas. The 2015 Elantra title was transferred to USAA after filing a claim for TOTAL LOSS due to engine flooding on [XXX]. Odometer reading on date of total loss is 7,673 miles. Vehicle appears to be sold again with same odometer reading January 2016. Both of my Hyundai Elantra's were purchased at Ron Carter Hyundai Dealership in Texas (Dealer number P113588). This dealership is now called Big Star Hyundai after DCG Acquisitions represented the sale in 2021 - just in time to deny and delay warranty covered defects to consumers who thought they purchased a brand new car. Hope this helps the current vehicle owner in case they are also over spending on dealership recommended "repairs" for their LEMON. SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-04-13
- VIN: 5NPDH4AE4FH
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: I am submitting this complaint because in the fall of last year 2023, I received a recall notice in the mail from Hyundai advising me of a safety recall with the ABS Module and risk of fire. As of today, the manufacturer has not made any efforts to remedy this issue and I am advised to park my vehicle away from structures to avoid fire. In order to keep myself and family safe I park my vehicle on the street in front of my home, but will not be able to continue doing this for much longer. Because of HOA regulations I will be fined if I continue to park my car on the street and will be forced to park in my driveway or garage. This has caused major inconveniences in my life as well as the worry that my car could become a risk to myself or others due to this safety recall. I do not believe that Hyundai has taken the appropriate measures to resolve the issue. I would like further investigation to insure the manufacturer does the right thing to protect not only myself, but other consumers who are affected by the recall. I contacted Hyundai on [XXX], received an apology; however I was not given an estimate of when they will have a resolution available. This is an unacceptable response after 6-7 months without communication from Hyundai. Reference number of call # [XXX]. UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-09-23
- VIN: KMHDH4AHXFU
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Unknown. Why is NHTSA giving Hyundai such slack? It has been well over six months since Hyundai has alerted us of the safety recall, but has to yet to act on recall 251. They say the car would be safer outside, but many of us who live in high rises don’t have that luxury as our multi-level garages are either attached to or beneath the living units. Hyundai should be compelled to act right away, or buy their cars back. NHTSA should act immediately.

I can tell that you really enjoyed your Hyundai Elantra! It sounds like it was a great car for you, especially with its impressive gas mileage and easy handling. It's also great to hear that you didn't have to worry about any major repair costs during the 4.5 years you had it. Thank you for sharing your positive experience with the Elantra, and I'm sure your recommendation will be helpful to anyone looking for a reliable small car.

Looking for a reliable and comfortable car that won't break the bank when it comes to maintenance? This car is perfect for both city and highway driving, and requires minimal upkeep for the first five years. In my experience, the only issues I've had were a couple of burnt headlamps (which can easily be changed yourself) and a battery that died a bit earlier than expected (apparently a common issue with factory batteries in Asian compacts). If you're considering buying, I recommend looking into the GT model hatchback, which is often sold at a great price with upgrade packages included. And don't worry about the 2.0 litre engine - it's not the fastest, but it's definitely not slow. Overall, this is a well-made, reliable, and comfortable car at a great price.
-
I love my car! I've never had any issues with it. I was the only one to drive it since it was brand new in 2015 with only 25 miles on it. Now, it has about 130,000 miles and still no problems. I just love it!
-
This is my 3rd car, but 2nd Hyundai. My first car was an '07 Hyundai Accent, and my 2nd was a '15 Chevy Sonic. I must say, this car definitely outperforms both of them and has way more features. I just bought the car with 107,000 miles on it and it runs like a dream. The only issue I've had with it so far is a bad tire pressure sensor, which is only a $50 fix. The trunk is huge, the interior is stunning and comfortable. It did not come with a front license plate bracket, but they're cheap and easy to install. There's no rust on the body and the headlights are bright and clear but don't seem to blind oncoming traffic. The recommended psi is 32, but the max is 50, so I bumped it up to 45 for a smoother ride. I would definitely recommend this car.
-
This car has excellent gas mileage, it rides smoothly, and it's a great first car. The only thing it didn't have was bluetooth which was an easy fix. I bought a car bluetooth off of Amazon and it works great!

If you're living paycheck to paycheck and considering buying a Hyundai product, it's important to keep in mind that the repair bills can add up quickly. Remember, the bitterness of poor quality lingers long after the sweetness of a low price is forgotten.

I purchased my car brand new from the dealership, but unfortunately after 40 to 50k miles, the engine started knocking. I brought this to the attention of the dealership, but unfortunately, they were unable to resolve the issue. After doing some research, I discovered that Hyundai engines have a known issue with slapping pistons and undersized oil pumps. At 90k miles, I discovered a leak in the engine oil pan and crank case gasket seal, which was diagnosed by another mechanic. Thankfully, it was fixed a couple of times under warranty. However, since then, I have had to replace the oil pan gasket 5 times and the crank case gasket seal 3 times, which has been frustrating. Despite the dealership's best efforts, they were unable to fix the vehicle. Eventually, I decided to trade in the vehicle, and the new dealer offered me a trade price. During the inspection, they found another oil pan gasket leak, and when they contacted the Hyundai dealership where I originally purchased the car, they were informed that the vehicle had a defective engine. This was the first time Hyundai had been truthful about the issue, but unfortunately, the dealer reduced the trade-in price by $1000. If you are in Canada, I would recommend checking out the show Marketplace, which featured Hyundai and their defective engines. While I personally will not be buying another Hyundai, I encourage you to do your own research and make the best decision for yourself.

Hey there! Just wanted to share my experience with my car. While I did have some engine problems and had to swap it out due to motor failure, I found that it's important to keep up with regular maintenance to keep your car running smoothly. Unfortunately, my engine started knocking around 80k miles and none of the mechanics I went to could fix it, but I've heard that this is a common issue. I also noticed that my car was burning through oil and needed to be filled every 500-1,000 miles, so if you have a long commute, you may want to consider a different option. Just wanted to give you a heads up! :)

The 2015 Hyundai Eleantra SE has unfortunately caused us a lot of trouble over the years. We have experienced a number of issues with the car, some of which the dealership was unable to fix. Despite this, we have kept a record of all the problems we have encountered. For example, we had to replace the battery on 11/15/2016 with 12185 miles on the car, and on 05/22/2017 with 15516 miles on the car, we had to replace two bald tires. On 11/03/2017 with 18268 miles on the car, we had to replace the other two bald tires. We also had a problem with the car stalling, which the dealership was unable to diagnose. On 01/18/2018 with 20747 miles on the car, we reported a sound when the car starts, which sounds like metal clinking. Despite taping the sound for the service advisor, the tech could not hear it. On 02/08/2018 with 20749 miles on the car, the dealership kept the car overnight and the tech finally heard the sound. They tested the alternator and found it was bad, which they replaced. Unfortunately, the replacement of the alternator did not solve the problem. On 03/20/2018 with 20802 miles on the car, we were still experiencing the same sound when the car starts. Despite the dealership's efforts, the issue remains unresolved. We are still concerned about the problem, but we appreciate the dealership's efforts to help us.I'm concerned about a potential safety issue with my car. Despite having taped the issue twice, the dealership has been unable to fix it because they couldn't hear the sound. I've had several people hear the metal clinking noise when I start the car, but the dealership hasn't been able to replicate it. I've been experiencing an issue with the Range Miles to go since 2016, where it doesn't stay consistent after filling up with gas. The range can vary from 275 to 304 miles. Recently, the range dropped from 279 to 256 miles before I even left the gas station, and it continues to drop rapidly while driving. I'm not sure what's causing this issue, but it's been ongoing despite replacing the battery, tires, and alternator. I'm worried about the safety of myself and my passengers, and I hope we can find a solution soon.

My 2015 Elantra performed poorly under pressure. Despite being involved in multiple accidents, including two front bumper impacts and one rear-end collision, the airbag sensors were set too low to deploy. While disappointed with the car's performance, it is important to note that there is currently no recall on this year and model. It is recommended to exercise caution when driving this vehicle.
