2012 Dodge Avenger problems
The Dodge Avenger is a front-wheel drive, mid-sized sedan that was marketed by Dodge. The Avenger made its North American debut in 1994 for the 1995 model year as a coupe that was produced until 2000. The model name was reintroduced to the market as a four-door sports sedan starting in 2007 for the 2008 model year. The Dodge Avenger name had earlier been used on South African market Hillman Avengers in 1975 and 1976.
The 2014 model year marked the end of Avenger production as the mid-sized models for both the Dodge and Chrysler brands were consolidated into the new Chrysler 200 introduced for the 2015 model year while Dodge received the new compact Dart.
Nameplate history
The first use of the Dodge Avenger name was on a badge engineered version of the European Hillman Avenger, exclusive to South Africa. The same car was sold in North America as the Plymouth Cricket between 1972 and 1974. In place of the Hillman engines, this version used a Peugeot 1.6 litre engine (as also installed in locally assembled Peugeot 404s) in order to satisfy local content requirements. The Dodge-branded Avenger was introduced in 1975 and was then renamed Chrysler in 1976. This generation has nothing in common with later Dodge Avengers. After Chrysler ZA was merged into Sigma in 1976, the Avenger was soon cancelled to allow Sigma to free up more production capacity for the Mazda 323.

Someone could hit me because I am not moving, or I am trying to get out of the way. or I might end up hitting someone else because the brakes don't work. this is a huge risk to life and limb. Noone other than myself has tried to see what is going on with my car, specifically. i have already put out a lot of money on parts that research says it COULD be. other people have had the same complaint about their Dodge vehicles. they have even taken them to many repair shops, with no one finding a real answer as to why this is happening. i would just like a car the safe to drive with my kids in it. as it is i fear for their safety if they were to ride in it. they are no warning lights or messages. I fear for my safety, the safety of my children, and the safety of others on the road around me. This car should really not be on the road without a definite answer to the problem.

VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-10-19
- VIN: 1c3cdzagxcn
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: Window Defrost and Passenger Side Heat/Air. Either while in motion or while driving, no heated air exits the passenger side of the windshield defroster, nor the passenger window defrost, lower and center console vents. Heated air only exits the driver's side windshield and driver's side dash vents. This results in the passenger side of the front windshield being fogged up and low visibility. Problem persists through all cabin air modes and circulations. This safety issue effects visibility and passenger safety by failing to defrost/defog windows and keeping cabin tempuratures near or below freezing during cold weather (blowing cold air into the cabin). I've looked online and there are many reports of this problem, including Dealer Star Case - S1207000008, and multiple dialogs on various forums (like https://www.avengerforumz.com/threads/passenger-side-no-heat-from-vents.60250/). There's a picture showing the sludge within the heater core - I'll copy and include that picture below. This is completely a manufacturing defect, and it affects the safety and drivability of the vehicle. Please feel free to contact me, if you need additional information. Thank you.

SEAT BELTS,SEATS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-11-19
- Number Of Injuries: 1
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 1C3CDZCB9CN
- Components: SEAT BELTS,SEATS
- Summary: On November 19, 2021 I was a passenger in the above vehicle, which was owned by my ex-husband. We were involved in a 3 car accident when another car cut us off while driving at the speed of 45 mph (posted), with cruise control set. Upon impact with the 2 other vehicles, my seat (the passenger side seat) broke and threw me forward into the front passenger side compartment. Even though the dash airbags deployed, I suffered a catastrophic injury to my leg/ankle that required immediate surgery---had I not had surgery, I would have never walked again. The above vehicle had to be towed due to being a total loss. When my ex-husband went to the salvage yard to retrieve his belongings out of the totaled car, he and his daughter noticed that the front passenger side seat was broke. The vehicle, I believe is no longer available for inspection, since my significant other gave the title to the salvage yard. There has been a recall affecting the seat restraint pretensioners, however, since I did not own said vehicle, I do not know if this one was included in that recall. According to my ex-husband, there was no warning, messages, or other symptoms of a problem before this accident occured. My whole life was changed that evening. I am facing huge medical costs for my recovery---my hospital bill alone was $186,500.00! This does not include follow up visits, physical therapy, and all the pain and suffering I have experienced!

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-01-20
- VIN: 1C3CDZEG0CN
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: The vehicle will shut off in the middle of driving and you lose complete power to the vehicle. Then after it sits for a few hours it will start back up with no issue. I had my vehicle at the dodge dealership 2 times for them to tell me they can't figure it out and that they get alot of avengers with the same issue. But since it's not throwing a code they aren't able to fix it. I also explained that when it shuts off when you are trying to start the car it sounds like it is going to start but it just keeps turning over but won't start and the lightening bolt light comes on at that time. The dealership said they checked everything to see if it was my battery or alternator but everything they checked was good. They said this is a known problem with these cars and the only thing they can advise is to get rid if the vehicle because there isn't a fix for it. Someone is going to get hurt from this issue I have almost been hit numerous times when the vehicle shuts off with no warning. This has been happening a few times a year the whole time I have had this vehicle

I love this vehicle! It's actually my first domestic vehicle ever owned, so I was a bit nervous. However, I've only had one major repair, which was the alternator at around 115k miles. Although it cost me 1200 bucks due to its labor-intensive location, it was worth it. I've had a few other minor problems, such as the passenger window switch quitting working, the radiator filler neck breaking, and the gas cap causing a vacuum leak. But, these repairs were so easy to do and cost me under $20 each DIY. Considering her mileage and the level of use I put her through, she's amazing! It's fun to drive, and I get compliments on it all the time. I even have the alloy wheels from Dodge, so it looks real fancy!

I bought the car for my wife who loves it! Despite some people saying it's not good in the snow, it has performed well (this separates the drivers from the others). On long trips, the driver's seat feels more like the seat in an F-14. It's not so comfy from Maine to Connecticut. Make sure to do your homework and look it over really well. For us, it's been a reliable car with no major malfunctions. And of course, my wife is happy - you know how that goes!!

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my 2nd Dodge Avenger. I'm really impressed with this car! Even though I've only driven 600 miles so far, I can already tell that it's a huge improvement from my previous 2010 model. The interior quality and ride quality are so much better, and there's almost no wind noise at highway speeds. I'm also pleasantly surprised by how well it handles. I haven't found any flaws with it yet - it's perfect! I can't comment on the highway MPG just yet, but I'm expecting it to be even better than my previous car which got 37.5 mpg. If you haven't driven one yet, I highly recommend giving it a try. Thanks for reading!

You have one of the best things ever owned!

Hi there! Just wanted to let you know that we sold our car back in 2017 with 62,000 miles on it. Although it lacked a bit of power, it was always reliable. We bought it mainly for its great mpg, since it's a 4 cylinder. It averaged around 27mpg, which was fantastic! Plus, it was really comfortable and had a sporty look to it.

I purchased this car brand new and have driven it for 21000 miles. Unfortunately, I have had some issues with the car, including problems with the HVAC system and the ride quality. Additionally, the 4-cylinder engine is not particularly powerful and I have not been able to achieve the estimated MPG. I have also experienced intermittent issues with the speedometer and transmission. Despite these challenges, I believe that this car has potential and I am hopeful that it will improve with time. Thank you for considering my feedback.
Orlo Swift 2024-09-20
I strongly advise against purchasing a Dodge. In my experience, the heating system is unreliable and prone to breaking down, which can be particularly unpleasant in colder climates. Additionally, the car has a tendency to stall, even after repairs, and the transmission typically fails after around 8 years of use. Personally, I have decided to sell my Dodge as I am not willing to invest any more money into it.

This car is not reliable and requires frequent repairs. It may be worth considering other options.
Arvel Prosacco 2024-07-18
I purchased a used 2012 Avenger on 7/11/15 and by 10/15, I needed front brakes. Currently, I am experiencing issues with either the transmission or the powertrain control module. However, I am confident that this is an isolated incident and not representative of Dodge's overall product quality. While I have had some challenges with this particular vehicle, I remain a loyal Dodge customer and look forward to exploring their future offerings.
