2010 Mitsubishi Lancer evolution problems
The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, popularly referred to as the 'Evo', is a sports sedan and rally car based on the Lancer that was manufactured by Japanese manufacturer Mitsubishi Motors from 1992 until 2016. There have been ten official versions to date, and the designation of each model is most commonly a Roman numeral. All generations use two-litre intercooled turbo inline four-cylinder engines and all-wheel drive systems.
The Lancer was originally intended only for Japanese markets, but demand on the "grey import" market led the Evolution series to be offered through Ralliart dealer networks in the United Kingdom and in various European markets from around 1998. Mitsubishi decided to export the eighth generation Evolution to the United States in 2003 after witnessing the success Subaru had in that market the previous year with the Subaru Impreza WRX.
All domestic-market versions, until the release of the Evolution IX in 2005, were limited by a gentlemen's agreement between Japanese car manufacturers to advertise no more than 280 PS (206 kW; 276 hp). However, sources say Mitsubishi had already been producing cars with more power but had been underrating the official power outputs in order to comply with the agreement. Therefore, each subsequent version has unofficially evolved above the advertised power figures, with the Japanese-market Evolution IX reaching an alleged output of around 321 PS (236 kW; 317 hp). Various special versions available in other markets, particularly the UK, have official power outputs up to 446 PS (328 kW; 440 hp).
The tenth and final generation of the Lancer Evolution, the Evolution X, was launched in Japan in 2007, and overseas markets in 2008. The Evolution X was produced for almost 10 years until Mitsubishi retired the Lancer Evolution in April 2016.

Common 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer evolution problems
Based on the information provided in the search results, here is a list of common problems with the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 2010 based on complaints from owners:
- Active Center Differential Pump (ACD/AYC Pump):
- The ACD/AYC pump in 2008 to 2014 models is prone to corrosion due to its mounting location, leading to handling issues when it fails. Relocating the pump inside the trunk is recommended to prevent this.
- Symptoms: Handling differences, warning message "Four-wheel drive system service required."
- Blower Motor Resistor:
- Failure of the blower motor resistor causes the heater blower motor to work at only one speed.
- Solution: Cleaning or replacement of the blower motor resistor.
- Upper Timing Chain Stretch:
- Continuous driving at high RPMs can cause the upper timing chain to stretch, leading to off valve timing and triggering the check engine light.
- Risk: Chain jumping teeth on the camshaft sprocket, resulting in engine compression loss.
- Exterior Paint Chipping:
- The exterior paint of these vehicles tends to chip easily.
- Exhaust Manifold Cracks:
- The exhaust manifold is prone to developing cracks, causing exhaust leaks.
- Solution: Replacement with high-quality aftermarket stainless steel headers.
- Clutch Wear and Premature Failure:
- The OEM clutch is prone to abnormal wear and premature failure, especially with hard driving or engine modifications.
- Recommendation: Replacement with a high-performance clutch kit.
- Random Stalling:
- Some vehicles may stall randomly while driving, often due to a defective crankshaft position sensor.
- Clutch Master Cylinder Issues:
- The OEM clutch master cylinder is prone to failure, suggesting replacement with a high-quality aftermarket unit.
- Fast Wearing Struts:
- OEM struts tend to wear out quickly, leading to poor handling and clunking sounds on uneven roads.
- Solution: Replacement with better quality struts like Bilstein for improved handling.
- Wheel Alignment Problems:
- Suspension and steering components wear out, causing wheel alignment issues like the vehicle pulling to one side on straight roads.
These common problems highlight various issues that Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 2010 owners may encounter, ranging from mechanical components to handling and maintenance concerns.

How reliable are Mitsubishi Lancer Evolutions?
Despite what you may have heard, the Evo X has a stellar reputation for reliability. The stock aluminum 4B11T engine can easily handle 400-plus horsepower with a larger-than-stock turbo and decent tune. Non-modified cars will soldier on well past 100,000 miles with only minimal maintenance–and lots of new tires.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-07-01
- VIN: JA32U2FU2AU
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
- Summary: The car started flashing a warning sign and loosing power. When trying to accelerate it stops. Eventually it puts the car into a limp mode and will stall altogether. This happens any long distance trip. My car year and model is not the only Lancer being effected by this computer glitch. It’s very dangerous due to the fact that the cars loosing power while you’re driving. It doesn’t matter if you’re in the middle of the highway it will just stop working. All research I have done points to an error within the computer that tells the car when to cool down the transmission. I have seen many blogs, forums and actually know another Lancer owner who’s model is a 2012 and has the exact same issue. I don’t know why this hasn’t been addressed yet when it’s affecting more than just one Lancer here or there. Bad for the engine bad for the transmission bad for my travel. And the worst part is that any mechanic is unable to detect the issue unless the car is actively coding. I’ve had this car for 3 years now and I feel it’s a big safety concern and needs to looked into. First occurrence was on a trip down to a local lake car stalled on the side of a highway this was in 2018. Now any trip further than over 30 miles or more the car will throw this code it looks like a gear and it has a exclamation point in the middle. It’s progressively getting worse and effecting the over all performance more each time I wish to travel. Please find out why this issue is occurring in multiple years of the same model of car because it inconvenient and dangerous. I would hate for myself and my kids to get killed in an accident due to not being able to get out of the way of a bigger vehicle or a truck.

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-06-23
- VIN: JA32Y6HV9BU
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: HELLO NHTSA, I HAVE A 2011 MITSUBISHI LANCER RALLIART SPORTBACK. I HAVE JUST CAME ACROSS A CRACK IN MY EXHAUST MANIFOLD WHICH IS CAUSING EXHAUST FUMES TO ENTER THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE IF MY WINDOWS ARE UP. I DON'T SEEM TO BE THE ONLY PERSON WITH THIS TYPE OF CAR/ENGINE THAT HAS A CRACK IN THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. MY CAR IS NOT MODIFIED IN ANY WAY THAT EFFECTS THE PERFORMANCE THAT COULD CAUSE SUCH A CRACK TO HAPPEN. THIS ALSO APPEARS TO BE THE CASE FOR SEVERAL THOUSAND OTHERS. I HAVE BROUGHT MY VEHICLE INTO MITSUBISHI WHO HAS CONFIRMED THE CRACK AND HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO EXPLAIN TO ME WHY OR HOW THIS HAPPENED. I HAVE BEEN TOLD FROM MY LOCAL MITSUBISHI DEALERSHIP AND THE NEXT CLOSEST ONE THAT THEY CAN REPLACE THE MANIFOLD FOR $2K. I HAVE CONTACTED MITSUBISHI USA WHO HAS TOLD ME THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD SHOULDN'T CRACK AND HAS GOTTEN NO OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE ISSUE. THERE ARE SEVERAL THOUSAND POSTS WITH PHOTO PROOF THAT I AM NOT ALONE WITH THIS ISSUE. MITSUBISHI HAS HAD A SIMILAR ISSUE WITH THEIR ALL WHEEL DRIVE PUMP WHERE THERE WAS A DEFECT OF SOME SORT AND EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 100,000K. I HAVE ALREADY HAD MY ALL WHEEL DRIVE PUMP FAIL AND REPLACED UNDER THAT WARRANTY. WHEN I SPOKE WITH MITSUBISHI USA A SUPERVISOR NAMED JENNIFER INFORMED ME TO PUT IN A COMPLAINT HERE. SINCE MITSUBISHI HAS NOT HAD ANY INTERNAL TESTING ON THE MANIFOLD GOING THIS ROUTE MAY SPEED THE PROCESS UP. THIS ISSUE IS QUITE SERIOUS SINCE WITH THE CRACK - PHOTO ATTACHED: IT CAUSES CARBON MONOXIDE TO ENTER THE CABIN IF THE WINDOWS ARE UP OR IF THE AC IS ON AND THE CAR IS AT A STAND STILL. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.

IT SENDS A CODE TO THE ABS MODULE CAUSING IT TO FAIL. MAKING YOUR ABS AND ENGINE LIGHT COME ON THE DASH. WITH THAT FAILURE IT STORES THE CODE AND EVEN AFTER THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS ARE FIX YOU STILL CAN NOT CLEAR THE ABS/BRAKE CODE. THE ONLY FIX TO GET RIDE OF THE LIGHTS AND TO GET YOUR ABS PUMP/MOTOR WORKING AGAIN IS TO REPLACE IT WITH A BRAND NEW UNIT COSTING ALMOST $3,000 DOLLARS TO MITSUBISHI. POWER TRAIN,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-05-15
- VIN: JA32W8FV3AU
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)
- Summary: ON-DASH WARNING LIGHT OF "4WD SYSTEM SERVICE REQUIRED" CAME ON. THIS WARNING IS INDICATIVE OF A ACTIVE CENTER DIFFERENTIAL (ACD) PUMP FAILURE, GENERALLY DUE TO CORROSION FROM TREATED WINTER ROAD SURFACES AND/OR THE INABILITY TO HANDLE COLD-WEATHER CLIMATES. CAR WAS PREVIOUSLY SERVICED UNDER A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (TSB) TO DELAY ACTIVATION OF THE ACD PUMP FOR THIS EXACT REASON 2 YEARS PRIOR TO FAILURE. MITSUBISHI HAS YET TO CORRECT THIS MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND IS CURRENTLY REFUSING TO HONOR WARRANTY SERVICE OF FAILED PUMPS UNDER THEIR 5-YEAR / 36,000-MILE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY, STATING THAT THE PUMP IS NOT REQUIRED FOR THE VEHICLE TO OPERATE SAFELY AND PROPERLY. IN CONTRAST, A WORKING ACD PUMP DIRECTLY EFFECTS THE VEHICLE'S HANDLING, TRACTION & STEERING - AND ALL 3 DRIVING PARAMETERS IMMEDIATELY BEHAVE DIFFERENTLY WHEN THE PUMP SHUTS DOWN IN SELF-PROTECTION MODE OR HAS FAILED COMPLETELY. THIS VEHICLE HAS A DRIVER-SELECTED SETTING FOR TARMAC (PAVEMENT), GRAVEL/RAIN & SNOW CONDITIONS - THESE SETTINGS ARE COMPLETELY DISABLED WHEN THE ACD PUMP HAS FAILED, OR IS FAILING (ON-DASH WARNING WITH PUMP IN SELF-PROTECTION MODE). THIS ISSUE EFFECTS SEVERAL MODELS (LANCER, LANCER EVOLUTION, RALLIART, ETC.) FROM MODEL YEAR 2008 TO 2014, AND HUNDREDS OF INSTANCES OF THIS ISSUE HAVE BEEN DOCUMENTED IN ONLINE FORUMS (AND PROBABLY SEVERAL-FOLD THAT AMOUNT THAT HAVEN'T BEEN DISCUSSED ONLINE). PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE IMMEDIATELY, THANK YOU.

I traded in my 05 Tacoma for the Evo. My high school car was a 90 bhp Mustang, so maybe I'm going through a mid-20s crisis. The interior build quality isn't as good as the Toyota, and you'll be filling up the tank every 5 days. Also, cops will pay lots of attention to you. However, none of these small concerns matter. I'm now getting to work early just so I can drive on the road at 6:00 am without traffic.

This Lancer is not your typical one. I've owned it for a year and haven't had any issues except for the clutch. Even though I don't drive hard or launch the car, I had to replace the clutch at around 12k. I ended up getting an aftermarket clutch and a new flywheel because of the warp. Other than that, I really enjoy the car and the fun that comes with it. I joined a local car club and ended up modifying the car a bit. The gas mileage isn't great, but with a 2.0 engine pushing out nearly 300hp on a 3k pound car, it's worth it. The interior is just okay if you have the base model, but an EVO is made for driving, not luxury.

I'm so excited to share that my husband and I decided to switch from his Mustang Saleen to an import, and we couldn't be happier with our choice! The EVO handles like a dream and we were torn between the Subaru WRX STI and the Evo, but after test driving both, the Evo was the clear winner. While the Subaru felt a bit 'lost' with its six-speed, the Evo's performance was top-notch. We did notice that the car could benefit from a sixth gear, but overall we are extremely satisfied with our first Mitsubishi. We haven't had the chance to really push it yet, as it only has 200 miles, but we are already impressed with its performance. We definitely made the right choice!

I was a bit worried about buyer's remorse before purchasing this car, but now that I have it, I'm glad I took the risk. Initially, I was planning to get a reasonable car, like an Acura or something, but I thought, you only live once, so I went for the Evo. Since driving it off the lot, I have a perma-smile on my face. Although there are a few things I don't like, such as the driver's seat not being very adjustable, the clunky shifts into 2nd and 3rd until the clutch warms up, the tiny trunk (not big enough for golf clubs w/ sub), and the loud road noise on rough surfaces. However, the good thing is that it's sharp when you want it to be and tame on your daily commute. All in all, it's not a bad daily driver, and it's fast.

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with the 08 GSR that I leased two weeks ago. I absolutely love driving this car! It's truly amazing. Although it could benefit from a 6th gear, the car just begs to be driven. As someone who is 6'2

I upgraded from a 2008 STi to the 2010 EVO X. Although the STi had a more pleasant interior, the seats in the X are amazing. I highly recommend the SSS package, as it is well worth it. However, the overall build quality of the X is not as good as the STi, and there is a lack of space. The buttons feel cheaper and the seating position is not great, despite the amazing seats. Both cars are great options, but if you want something similar to the X, you should consider buying a 2011 STi, as the 08-2010 models don't compare. The paint quality of the X seems to be better than the Subaru, and there is less turbo lag, even though the motor is 0.5L smaller. One of the biggest differences is fuel economy, as the 5-speed is too short and gets 8mpg less than the STi did.

Upon driving the car out of the dealer lot, I was blown away by the sheer power and torque of this beast. While the seats are supportive, adjusting them when reclining can be quite challenging. However, the transmission, while slightly notchy, is still superior to that of a Honda. Although the interior plastic parts are not up to par with my 06 Civic, this is a minor issue compared to the overall performance of the car. As someone who has previously owned a 2003 WRX, I can confidently say that the GSR's transmission is not a significant concern for me.

These cars are good and fun to drive, with great handling, good power, and a top-notch AWD system. While the interior is just okay and the comfort is not great, it's important to remember that this car is not meant to be a cruiser. In my opinion, the premium over the GSR's is not worth it, but if you have the budget, it's definitely a great option. If you're willing to wait, you may be able to snag a better deal in the future. Overall, it's a great car for those who prioritize performance and excitement.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my EVO over the past 6 months. While I've enjoyed driving it, there are a couple of things that have been bothering me. Firstly, the paint is quite thin and scratches easily. I've had to get it repaired a couple of times and ended up putting a clear bra on most of the car to prevent further damage. It was a bit pricey at around $1000, but definitely worth it in the long run. Secondly, the windshield is also quite thin, which I believe was done to save weight. Unfortunately, I got a minor chip in mine and when I tried to repair it, the windshield ended up splitting. I'm currently in the process of replacing it with a standard Lancer windshield, which is a bit thicker but also heavier. It's costing me around $350, but I think it'll be worth it. Just wanted to share my experience with you in case you're considering getting an EVO yourself. Let me know if you have any questions!

We have owned our 2008 EVO for four months now and were initially very excited about our purchase. However, after waxing the vehicle for the fourth time 1 1/2 weeks ago, my husband noticed a massive amount of paint chips above the rear tires on both sides of the car and also on the hood. After researching online, we found that many other people have experienced the same issue, and unfortunately, Mitsubishi has not been very helpful in resolving the problem for most of them. If you are considering purchasing this vehicle, we would advise against it due to the paint chipping and windshield issues that seem to be common. We have had a disappointing experience with the quality of this car and regret our purchase.
