1994 Mitsubishi Diamante problems
The Mitsubishi Diamante is an automobile that was manufactured by Mitsubishi Motors from 1990 to 2005.
The first series was a hardtop introduced to the public at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1989. It went on sale in Japan exclusively in May 1990 and won that year's Japan Car of the Year award. It was created by splicing an extra 6.6 cm (2.6 in) right down the middle of the Mitsubishi Galant, which itself had won the Japan Car of the Year award in 1987. The Diamante's platform was also used for the sporty Mitsubishi 3000GT.
The name Diamante was derived from the Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian word for "diamond" and was adopted also as homage to the Mitsubishi badge which is composed of three diamonds. In Japan, this vehicle was sold at a specific retail chain called Car Plaza.

Common 1994 Mitsubishi Diamante problems
The Mitsubishi Diamante, produced between 1992 and 2005, is known for its stability, cruising capabilities, and a sense of safety and protection. However, as with any vehicle, the 1994 Diamante has faced a number of common problems reported by owners.
- Heater Core Leaks: The heater core, responsible for providing heat to the cabin, can develop leaks, causing antifreeze to leak onto the passenger side floor. This issue may be more prevalent in colder climates, where the heater core is used more frequently. It is unclear if this was a manufacturing defect or if it affected a significant number of vehicles.
- Fuel Pump Failure: Some 1994 Diamante owners have reported fuel pump issues, which can lead to problems with starting the vehicle or maintaining a consistent fuel pressure. This issue can be intermittent or persistent, and it may require replacement of the fuel pump to resolve.
- Automatic Transmission Failure: Premature automatic transmission failure has been reported by some Diamante owners, which can result in the vehicle being unable to shift gears or experiencing erratic shifting. This issue may be more prevalent in higher mileage vehicles and can be costly to repair, as it may require a complete transmission replacement.
- Check Engine Light: The check engine light may illuminate due to a loose gas cap or other issues related to the engine management system. In some cases, simply tightening the gas cap may resolve the issue, while in other cases, a more in-depth diagnosis may be required to identify the root cause.
- Rotor and Pad Replacement: The front rotors may require replacement due to excessive grinding or wear, particularly if the vehicle has been driven for an extended period with worn-out brake pads. This can be a time-consuming and potentially expensive repair, particularly if the rotors are not replaced in a timely manner.
These are just a few of the common issues reported by 1994 Mitsubishi Diamante owners. It is important to note that not all vehicles will experience these problems, and regular maintenance and inspections can help identify and address potential issues before they become major repairs.

The Diamante was a popular car among buyers who were looking for a comfortable and stylish luxury sedan. It was not as popular as some rivals, such as the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord, but it was a good value for money car. The Diamante was discontinued in 2005 due to declining sales.
Is Mitsubishi a good engine?
It's a reputation that Mitsubishi has carried through to this day, with its SUVs, pickups, and commercial trucks still favorites with buyers all over the globe. I bought this car used a year and a half ago and I absolutely love how it handles. It's a great second car that's also great on gas, averaging about 35 city and 45 on the highway. It has great get up and go and is a real nice looking car both inside and out. I always get head turns everywhere I go!

The car was purchased as a program car 12 months ago with 20k miles. Although it chews up brakes and needs to be re-padded every 30-35k miles, we have had no other problems in nearly 140k miles. The engine runs at a high temperature (normal), so it is important to change the oil religiously to prevent buildup. Overall, this is an exceptionally engineered car. We have noticed a nominal hesitation in shifting out of first gear when cold at 138.5k miles, but it is not significant. We were able to get 65k miles out of our first two sets of tires. Both changes were done not because we were low on tread, but for an opportunistic sale at Pepboys. We could have gone another 10k+ miles both times.

The car has a 6 cylinder, SOHC engine that delivers excellent reliability and performance. It is important to have qualified mechanics perform major maintenance tasks, such as timing belt replacement. Additionally, investing in premium tires can greatly improve the quality of ride and handling. The only downside I have experienced is the turning radius.

I never would have guessed that my Diamante ES would become my all-time favorite car, surpassing even two Mercedes and an Audi. It has been incredibly reliable, only requiring maintenance every 30,000 miles, with the exception of a new idle motor a year ago. I never tire of driving it. While the engine did experience a known valve seal problem after 80,000 miles, I simply keep the oil level up and occasionally add a bottle of Lucas. The handling is exceptional for this class of car, especially with the latest Kumho Solus KH18 tires. I purchased an Accord two years ago, thinking that it was time to retire Molly after ten years. However, I ended up selling the Honda because I realized that I didn't like it as much and didn't need it!

You can rely on this vehicle without any unexpected repairs. Although repairs can be expensive, they are done with great care. It safely gets me to work, even on days when I'm feeling a bit groggy.
Chauncey Collier 2024-07-11
Although I have experienced significant mechanical issues with my Mitsubishi, I have taken excellent care of it. Unfortunately, the motor, transmission, and compressor all failed, even though the warranty had just expired at 75,000 miles. Despite the expenses and heartache, I continued to drive it because it was paid for. However, it has spent a considerable amount of time in the shops. My brother also had a Mitsubishi and experienced similar issues, leading him to return it within a year. While I have shared my negative experiences with many people, I remain confident that Mitsubishi will address these issues and improve their vehicles in the future.
Jay Schneider 2024-06-21
It's unfortunate that my experience with my Mitsubishi car wasn't as positive as I had hoped. After the warranty ran out, I encountered some issues with the steering assembly and electrical problems. Despite my efforts to maintain the car by changing the oil every 2000 miles, the engine eventually blew due to a defective cam shaft. I spent a significant amount of money trying to fix the engine, but unfortunately, it was beyond repair. I ended up selling the car to my neighbor for a lower price and advised them against purchasing it. It's been sitting in their yard for a year now. While my experience with Mitsubishi wasn't great, I hope others have had better luck with their cars.
Erik Huel 2024-05-13
If you have other options, it might be best to avoid purchasing this car. It tends to have high gas consumption and requires frequent, costly repairs.
Albin Wiza 2024-04-13
Its a great car when everything works, but when it breaks down, watch out, parts are EXPENSIVE. And it depreciates like a ship sinking with full cargo.
