The Mazda MX-6 is a front-engine, front-wheel-drive coupé manufactured and marketed by Mazda from 1987 to 1997 across two generations.
Mechanically identical to the Ford Probe, the Capella/626 and its hatchback platform mate, the Ford Telstar, these cars shared the GD (1988–1992) and GE (1993–1997) platforms. The MX-6 replaced the 626 Coupé, although it continued to share the same chassis.
The MX-6, 626, and Ford Probe were manufactured at joint-venture plants either by AutoAlliance in Flat Rock, Michigan, for the North American market, and by Mazda Japan for Asian and European markets.

- Summary: Mazda North American Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain model year 1989-1998 MPV, 1990-1995 323, 1990-1998 Protege, 1992-1993 MX-3, 1993-1995 929, 1993-1997 MX-6, and 1993-1998 626 vehicles. In the affected vehicles, grease applied to the contact points inside the ignition switch may become conductive and overheat.
- Consequence: If the ignition switch overheats there would be an increased risk of a fire.
- Remedy: Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ignition switch, free of charge. The recall began on December 17, 2015. Owners may contact Mazda Customer Experience Center at 1-800-222-5500, option#6. Mazda's number for this recall is 8715J.

This was my first car, and I absolutely loved it! I never had any mechanical problems, and it had excellent gas mileage. It was light, quick, and had amazing handling. It was the only car I never had any problems with. I had put 18-inch Falcon Hanabi rims with low profile tires that matched the interior and the trim.

I absolutely love my ride! She's my baby. I bought her used at 115,000km and so far I've only had very minor repairs. Just recently, I replaced the front pipe of the exhaust system because the previous owner repaired it with a noisy non-original piece. Whenever she's not feeling well, I bring her to the dealership. I know that my A/C compressor is going soon and my paint's clear coat is peeling off, but the paint still looks good! No rust!

I have had this car for 3 years and I have loved driving it every day. I have driven many other cars, but this one is my favorite. Mazda has done an excellent job with the engine, and this car has a great balance between the engine and body, making it a joy to drive. I highly recommend this car to anyone who loves fast, affordable cars. :)

You've had the car for 4 years and it has proven to be very dependable, economic, and fun. With the K&N air intake, nice stainless muffler, and bigger rims, the car handles and sounds great. It's a great car for city driving!

My MX-6 was a base model 4cyl auto. The transmission failed twice, once at 86k and again at 108k miles. While I enjoyed driving it, I had some reliability issues. If you are considering a car in this sport compact category, you may want to check out an Integra or Cavalier instead. In my experience, they were more reliable.

This car has been a lot of fun! It's fast, handles nicely, and looks great. Admittedly, it has had a few issues for only 51K miles. The major things were the replacement of the CV joints and a blown gasket, which resulted in a $1400 bill. The clearcoat on the paint is completely shot, but the AZ sun is pretty tough on paint. Additionally, the power antenna broke. However, all the other power accessories still work.
