Common 2006 Dodge Caravan problems
The 2006 Dodge Caravan, a popular minivan, has been reported to have several common problems that have affected its reliability. One of the most frequently reported issues is a leak in the oil filter adapter. This leak can be traced back to the oil filter housing adapter or the gasket itself. Dodge has recognized this problem and has released a revised oil filter adapter to address it. The repair cost for this issue was covered under warranty for some owners.
Another common problem with the 2006 Dodge Caravan is a faulty crankshaft seal, which has been reported to pop out, causing the check engine light and oil warning lights to switch on. This issue can also lead to an oil leak.
Power door lock failure is another problem that has been reported by some 2005 Dodge Caravan owners, which is often attributed to a faulty key and internal switch, causing the door locks to malfunction. This issue can be resolved by removing and replacing the 20 amp fuse.
Additionally, some 2003 Dodge Caravan owners have reported engine stalling caused by a dirty throttle body. This issue can result in low engine idle speed or frequent stalling, and it can be resolved by cleaning the throttle body.
Furthermore, some owners of the 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan have reported issues with paint and trim, including paint fading, chalking, peeling, or cracking, loose interior or exterior trim or moldings, and rust. These issues can affect the appearance of the vehicle and may require repair or replacement of the affected parts.

- Summary: The vehicle is turning off completely ir dying when driving. This is happening multiple times. I have to coast safely to pull over, can barely steer to get off the road. SEATS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-04-09
- VIN: 1D4GP25BX6B
- Components: SEATS
- Summary: Twice upon driving tonight, I pressed the pedal to accelerate when the light turned green, and the driver seat unlocked and pulled me backwards. If I wasn't holding on to the steering wheel I would have lost control of the car and been involved in an accident. I was able to press the break with the tip of my toe, manage to put the car in park, readjust the seat and go back into drive. All this while the light had turned green and cars were accelerating behind me. This happened twice tonight!! I am taller than my mom, but she is the primary driver of this vehicle. And this has started happening more often. I am VERY concerned for her safety with this issue driving to work and heading home. And she is a senior driver. You can imagine my concern... We always check the seats when first getting into the car to make sure everything is ok. But now the seat is dislodging without warning ️. Could this possibly be a recall issue we missed? I think it's time to trade in this vehicle for a different one if nothing can be done

- Summary: VAN IDLES ROUGHLY AND STALLS IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING REFUELING. WE DO NOT "TOP OFF" THE TANK BUT THE VAN STALLS WITHIN A MINUTE OF LEAVING THE GAS STATION. STALLING SEEMS TO OCCUR LESS IN COLDER TEMPERATURES BUT THE ROUGH IDLE IS CONSISTANT. THIS SEEMS LIKE THE SAME PROBLEM THAT WAS COVERED FOR 2004-2005 MODEL YEARS BY AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. THIS POSES A SAFETY HAZARD AS THE VAN COULD STALL IN TRAFFIC CAUSING AN ACCIDENT.

JUST LAST WEEK A WOMAN IN A CAR (TYPE NOT KNOWN-) IN SPOKANE WAS TRAPPED AND HAD TO BE RESCUED WHEN HER CAR CAUGHT FIRE AND SHE COULDN'T OPEN DOOR OR WINDOW. SHE WAS LUCKY A COP BUSTED A WINDOW AND DRAGGED HER OUT. THIS IS A SPOOKY THING IF ALL CARS ARE LIKE THAT IN A FIRE.CAR HAD DIED IN STREET.MINE IGNITED AT STOP LIGHT. YOU HAVE A VERY HIDDEN PROBLEMS IN THESE PLASTIC CARS. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-12-01
- VIN: 1D4GP24R96B
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: CURRENTLY HAVE ABOUT 86,000 ON THE VEHICLE. THE HEADLIGHTS, MORE AND MORE, ARE DECIDING TO REFUSE TO TURN ON. THERE IS NO DARKNESS INDICATOR, JUST AN OLD-FASHIONED TURN KNOB WITH THREE SETTINGS (OFF, PARKING LIGHTS, HEADLIGHTS). ALSO, THE HEADLIGHTS WHEN WORKING, DECIDE TO NOT SWITCH OFF WHEN THE KNOB IS TURNED TO OFF. THIS IS INTERMITTENT AND, SO FAR, MECHANICS HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. I SEE FROM OTHER SITES THAT MANY, MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THESE PROBLEMS WITH THESE MINIVANS AND EVENTUALLY, IF NOT ALREADY, SOMEBODY IS GOING TO DIE WHEN THESE LIGHTS CUT OFF UNEXPECTEDLY. *TR
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-09-04
- VIN: 2D4GP44L46R
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: NEARLY EVERY TIME WE FILL THE GAS TANK UP (NOT PUMPING IN EXTRA AFTER IT STOPS TO "TOP IT OFF," JUST STOPPING WHEN IT FIRST CLICKS), THE ENGINE WILL DIE ABOUT 30-60 SECONDS AFTER WE START DRIVING AWAY, ALMOST AS IF THE ENGINE HAS FLOODED OR SOMETHING. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN MOST FREQUENTLY IF I HAPPEN TO LET OFF THE GAS AT ANY POINT DURING THOSE FIRST 30-60 SECONDS. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, IT SEEMS THIS IS A MORE COMMON ISSUE THAN IT SHOULD BE, BUT, ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION, WE HAVE BEEN PULLING OUT OF THE GAS STATION ONTO A BUSY STREET RIGHT WHEN OUR VAN DIES. THANKFULLY, THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED WHEN A CAR IS COMING DIRECTLY AT US, BUT IT'S CERTAINLY A POSSIBILITY WITH THE WAY IT CONTINUES TO HAPPEN. AGAIN, DOING RESEARCH ON THIS MAKE/MODEL/YEAR OF CARAVAN HAS SHOWN THAT IT'S NOT AN UNCOMMON OCCURRENCE, WHICH I FIND PARTICULARLY CONCERNING. I WOULD APPRECIATE IF SOMETHING COULD BE DONE ABOUT THIS SO I CAN BE SURE MY WIFE AND CHILDREN (NOT TO MENTION MYSELF IF I'M DRIVING, BUT I'M MOSTLY WORRIED ABOUT THEM) WILL BE SAFE AFTER FILLING UP WITH GAS IN THE FUTURE.

I see that you purchased the car from CarMax. It has a 2.4L engine which can be a bit loud, but overall it seems to be in good condition. You mentioned that you are getting around 20-22 combined mpg, which is great. It's also good to hear that you have had a reliable experience with the car during your 3 years of ownership and have not experienced any breakdowns. It sounds like you got a good value for your money!

I purchased a demo with 8k, 3.3 litre SE and live 80 km north of Winnipeg, so I use it mostly on the highway. I have driven over 50k and have not experienced a single problem. I get 9 litres/100km on the highway (31 mpg Imperial, 26 US). I removed the back seats and installed a hinged bed for camping. This is my second Chrysler mini-van, the first being a Plymouth with a 3 litre engine. I drove that one for 110k with only the need for new tires, brake pads and battery. I paid $18,000.00 for my Caravan, whereas a Sienna would have been almost double the price. I am eagerly anticipating the plug-in hybrid model. I cannot understand why some people report only getting 16 hwy; these vans are made on an assembly line and should be fairly consistent. I take great care of my vehicles, so there may be a connection there. I make sure to keep the oil and air filter clean. Thank you.

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my car. I bought it new and I have to say, I couldn't be happier with it! I've put 90K miles on it so far and it's been a breeze to maintain. Just wanted to let you know!

Our fifth Dodge Minivan and the best by far! We're so glad we chose this one. The seats are really comfortable and the stow and go storage is so convenient. While it could use a bit more power, we're still really happy with our purchase!

I love the Caravan, my second one. It handles great and rides like a Cadillac. The heater is fantastic for Alaska winters, even at 40 below, and it starts easily in cold temperatures. In my experience, the Caravan is the most reliable car I have ever owned, surpassing all other brands I have tried.

Although there are some areas that could be improved, this van has some great features. The stow and go seating is a clever idea and the van handles well on straight roads. However, the steering could use some work, especially on curvy roads. Additionally, the power sliding doors could be improved. The air conditioner and radio controls are located too low, which can be inconvenient for the driver. Lastly, while the rocker switches for windows have been placed on a vertical surface for safety, they are not very ergonomic. Overall, this van has a lot of potential and with some adjustments, it could be even better.

I purchased the base SE when it was new for a great price. It was a very basic model, meaning I had to roll my own windows down and there was no keyless entry, but it was still a good deal. The power was so-so for regular town driving and terrible on the highway, and it was noisy with no pickup. After about 50k miles, we noticed oil leaking all over our driveway. We had to tow it to a garage and pay $3k for a crankshaft repair. Luckily, we had an extended warranty, but we still had to pay almost $500 and rent a car for a week. After this experience, we decided to trade it in for a preowned Odyssey (ironically of the same year), and what a difference it has been! So far, the Odyssey has been awesome. I would advise anyone to avoid any Caravans...

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my Caravan that my wife and I purchased in 2008. We've had largely no problems with it, but I did come across an issue with the location of the spare tire. I found it to be a bit inconvenient to have it under the van, under the front seats. While changing the tire on a nice day in my driveway, I found it to be a bit aggravating. I can only imagine how difficult it would be to change the tire on the side of the road in inclement weather. As a licensed professional engineer who works on my own cars, I found this system to be a bit challenging. However, I'm sure the designers had their reasons for choosing this location. I will definitely make sure to check the location of the spare tire before purchasing my next car. Thank you for listening to my experience!

The 2.4, 4-cylinder engine and transmission combination in the Caravan has proven to be unreliable in my experience. I would not recommend purchasing a used Caravan with this configuration.

This car has had a number of issues over the years. At 70,000 miles, the navigation and panel unit failed, and at 100,000 miles, the alternator, transmission aux unit, and radiator all needed to be replaced due to failure. Additionally, there were several oil leaks. At 120,000 miles, more issues arose, including another alternator failure, retractable door malfunctions, and problems with the plastic parts on the stow and go seats, which caused the seat frame to not stow properly. The cooling system also began to leak, and warning lights (such as ABS and airbag) would come on and off for no apparent reason. While these issues have been frustrating, I still appreciate the car for what it is. However, I will likely consider other brands in the future. It's important to learn from our experiences and make informed decisions when it comes to purchasing a vehicle.
