Common 1997 Saturn Wagon problems

Common Problems with the Saturn Wagon 1997:

  • Automatic Transaxle Valve Body Failure: The automatic transaxle in the Saturn Wagon 1997 is prone to valve body failure, leading to hard shifting or refusal to shift into first or reverse gears. This issue can affect the car's performance and fuel efficiency, making it a significant concern for owners.
  • Manual Transaxle Carrier Cross Pin Failure: The manual transaxle in the Saturn Wagon 1997 can experience carrier cross pin failure, which can destroy the transaxle case. This issue can lead to costly repairs and affect the car's overall performance and reliability.
  • Electric Seat Belts Failure: The 1994 and earlier models of the Saturn Wagon have electric seat belts that run on tracks. These belts are prone to failure, causing inconvenience and safety concerns for drivers and passengers.
  • Rear Trailer Arm Rust: The rear trailer arm in the Saturn Wagon 1997 can rust, leading to breakage and affecting the car's handling and stability. This issue can be particularly problematic in areas with harsh winter conditions or poor road maintenance.
  • Serpentine Belt and Idler Arm Failure: The serpentine belt and idler arm in the Saturn Wagon 1997 can fail, causing the car to stall or fail to start. This issue can be particularly problematic in situations where the car is needed for emergency transportation or long-distance travel.
  • Fuel Pump or Filter Failure: The fuel pump or filter in the Saturn Wagon 1997 can fail, causing the car to stall or fail to start. This issue can be particularly problematic in situations where the car is needed for emergency transportation or long-distance travel.
  • Electrical Issues: The Saturn Wagon 1997 can experience electrical issues, including problems with the battery, fuel gauge, and electrical wiring. These issues can affect the car's performance and reliability, causing inconvenience and safety concerns for drivers and passengers.
  • Dent Resistance: The plastic body panels in the Saturn Wagon 1997 provide dent resistance, but they require significantly wider gaps between the panels to account for the material's greater dimensional changes during temperature shifts. This issue can lead to a perception of poor quality and affect the car's overall appearance and value.
  • No-Haggle Pricing Strategy: The no-haggle pricing strategy for Saturn dealers can be a double-edged sword. While it simplifies the car-buying process, it can also lead to higher prices for customers who are not aware of the market value of the car.
  • Spaceframe Construction: The spaceframe construction in the Saturn Wagon 1997 can lead to wider gaps between the panels, affecting the car's appearance and perception of quality. This issue can be particularly problematic for drivers who value aesthetics and attention to detail.
  • Metal and Polymer Body Panels: The metal and polymer body panels in the Saturn Wagon 1997 can require more maintenance than traditional metal panels, leading to higher costs and more frequent repairs.

In summary, the Saturn Wagon 1997 is prone to several common problems, including oil consumption, automatic transaxle valve body failure, manual transaxle carrier cross pin failure, electric seat belts failure, rear trailer arm rust, serpentine belt and idler arm failure, fuel pump or filter failure, electrical issues, dent resistance, no-haggle pricing strategy, spaceframe construction, and metal and polymer body panels. These issues can affect the car's performance, reliability, and value, causing inconvenience and safety concerns for drivers and passengers.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2004-07-04
  • VIN: 1G8ZK8276VZ
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: CAR BEGAN TO MAKE A LOUD WHINE. TOOK IT TO MY AUTO-TECH AND WAS PLACED ON DIAGNOSTICS. WAS DETERMINED THAT THE BEARING IN THE TRANSMISSION WAS FAILING. THIS IS AT THE 66,000 MILE MARK. LET SATURN KNOW THIS AND BECAUSE I DID NOT GET MY CAR SERVICED THERE AT THE DEALERSHIP, THERE WAS NOT MUCH THEY COULD DO FOR ME! WHAT A RIP! EVEN FOLLOWING THE SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE ON MY OWN, THERE IS NOT MUCH THEY COULD DO FOR ME! I THINK THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH A CAR COMPANY WHEN TRANSMISSIONS FAIL AT THIS LOW OF MILEAGE. SOMEONE SHOULD CHECK INTO THEIR BUSINESS PRACTICES!!!! *JB
