1997 Mitsubishi Diamante problems
The Mitsubishi Diamante is an automobile that was manufactured by Mitsubishi Motors from 1990 to 2005.
The first series was a hardtop introduced to the public at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1989. It went on sale in Japan exclusively in May 1990 and won that year's Japan Car of the Year award. It was created by splicing an extra 6.6 cm (2.6 in) right down the middle of the Mitsubishi Galant, which itself had won the Japan Car of the Year award in 1987. The Diamante's platform was also used for the sporty Mitsubishi 3000GT.
The name Diamante was derived from the Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian word for "diamond" and was adopted also as homage to the Mitsubishi badge which is composed of three diamonds. In Japan, this vehicle was sold at a specific retail chain called Car Plaza.

Common 1997 Mitsubishi Diamante problems
The 1997 Mitsubishi Diamante is a luxury vehicle that has been praised for its stylish design, interior room, and optional child safety seat. However, like any vehicle, it is not without its common problems.
One of the most common issues reported by owners is transmission problems. This can manifest in a variety of ways, such as the car stalling or feeling like it's in limp mode. One owner reported that their car would stall when shifting into drive, and that the engine check light would come on. They took their car to Auto Zone and got codes P0755, P0760, and P0765, which pointed to Shift Solenoids B, C, and D Manafunction. The owner suspects that the problem might be with the shift solenoids in the transmission, and is wondering if it's just the cables or if the solenoids themselves are damaged.
Another common problem reported by owners is engine issues. One owner reported that their car would sometimes stall when accelerating, and that the check engine light would come on. They took their car to a mechanic and found that the problem was with the crankshaft position sensor. The mechanic replaced the sensor and the problem was solved.
Another issue reported by owners is electrical problems. One owner reported that their car's interior lights would sometimes flicker, and that the car would sometimes have trouble starting. They took their car to a mechanic and found that the problem was with the alternator. The mechanic replaced the alternator and the problem was solved.
Lastly, some owners have reported issues with the car's suspension. One owner reported that their car would sometimes make a clunking noise when going over bumps, and that the car would sometimes feel like it was pulling to one side. They took their car to a mechanic and found that the problem was with the car's struts. The mechanic replaced the struts and the problem was solved.
In conclusion, the 1997 Mitsubishi Diamante is a luxury vehicle that has been praised for its stylish design, interior room, and optional child safety seat. However, like any vehicle, it is not without its common problems. The most common issues reported by owners are transmission problems, engine issues, electrical problems, and suspension issues. If you own a 1997 Mitsubishi Diamante, it's important to be aware of these common problems and to address them promptly if they occur.

Negative 1997 Mitsubishi Diamante car reviews
Positive 1997 Mitsubishi Diamante car reviews

The car has experienced some transmission issues, such as a noticeable jerk at certain speeds. Fortunately, the driver door was fixed under warranty. Overall, there are no other significant problems to report. Despite these minor issues, I still have a great appreciation for this car. However, I have decided not to purchase this particular model again.
-
That's a great looking car! Just a heads up, the brakes may need frequent replacement, so be gentle with them. Unfortunately, heated seats weren't available in the '97 model, which would have been nice for the leather. It would also be helpful to have directional assistance in the area where the little TV screen is located. On the downside, there have been continuous transmission problems, particularly with 2nd gear slipping and catching, as well as some burning of the fluid. The dealer seems to be dragging their feet on replacing it, but other than that, there haven't been any major issues. There is also a minor problem with the trunk release occasionally not working or the key in the trunk not functioning properly when there are boxes in it.
-
I'm so glad to hear that you love your 97 Diamante LS! It's a shame to hear that the transmission can be a bit jerky at times, but overall it sounds like a great car to own and purchase.
-
This is one of the best cars I have ever owned, except for the occasional quirk when the transmission shifts to 2nd gear. It has been a reliable vehicle with great gas mileage and no maintenance issues. I purchased it in 2000 with 37,000 miles and have driven it up to 98,000 miles with many more years to come.
-
I am a car enthusiast who enjoys finding great deals on reliable vehicles. I keep a list of my favorite cars and watch for those with high reliability ratings that also have a good resale value. That's how I discovered the Diamante. I'm not sure why more people don't buy them new, but I don't mind. Two years ago, I was able to purchase a '97 model with only 27,000 miles in mint condition for only $15,700. I've been enjoying driving it ever since!

I wouldn't recommend buying it brand new. However, I believe it's the best used car to purchase due to its high resale value. I purchased my 97 Diamante for only 10k with 50k miles on it. If you come across a better deal, please let me know! The car sounds great when you step on the gas, but I do wish it had stronger brakes. The transmission is one of my favorite features as it adjusts to the driver's driving habits, which is pretty cool. Additionally, it's one of the best-looking cars out there, just like all Mitsubishis.
