2011 Mercury Milan problems
The Mercury Milan is a mid-size car that was marketed by the Mercury division of Ford Motor Company. Named after Milan, an Italian city, the Milan was sold across the 2006 to 2011 model years in a single generation. The smaller of two model lines developed to replace the Mercury Sable, it indirectly succeeded the Mercury Mystique as the smallest Mercury sedan.
Unveiled at the 2005 Chicago Auto Show, the Milan was the first new Mercury sedan nameplate introduced since 1995, and became the final nameplate introduced by the division. Coinciding with the 2010 closure of Mercury, the Milan ended sales after a shortened 2011 model year; the final vehicle was produced on December 17, 2010. The Milan was sold in the United States (including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands), Mexico, and the Middle East.
Throughout its production, the Milan was produced alongside the Ford Fusion at Hermosillo Stamping & Assembly in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico.

STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-10
- VIN: 3MEHM0HA1BR
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: The first symptom was the steering wheels failure to return to center after going around a corner. That went on for about 3 weeks before the Service Advance Trac warning came on. The vehicle started to have a terrible noise when turning the wheel which can only be described as the sound of bones breaking. The sound is increasing louder at slow speeds. Then the Advance Trac System Failure message came on, and the vehicle lost all power steering assist. When turning a corner the steering wheel almost gets stuck at the 2,3,4,5 positions. There was a massive Ford recall for this make and model with the exact same failed part, but for some reason Ford decided to not include my vehicle in this recall, despite it having the failure. This is a very expensive repair, and at this point in the vehicles life basically renders it a total loss. This should be remedied by Ford for all vehicles with this part.

THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN 15,311 MILES AND THE SAME PART NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. WHEN I ASKED IF THE PART HAS A WARRANTY I WAS TOLD 1 YR OR 12,000 MILES,SO THE REPAIR WOULD BE 1800.00. I ASKED IF THE SAME REPAIR WAS DONE WHAT KIND OF WARRANTY WOULD THERE BE. 2 YRS OR 50,000 MILES. MY CONCERN IS WHY THE RECALL PART IS ONLY WARRANTED FOR 12,000 AND THE NEW REPAIR WARRANTY IS 50,000. DID FORD INSTALL AN INFERIOR PART ON MY RECALL? THE VERY DANGEROUS RECALL PART THAT WAS PUT ON MY CAR LASTED BARELY OVER 15,000 MILE. I FIND THIS VERY ALARMING TO THINK THAT LIKE I THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE DRIVING AN UNSAFE CAR PUTTING THEMSELVES AND OTHER ON THE ROADS AT RISK OF INJURY OR DEATH! YOU CANNOT STEER THE CAR WHEN THE PART FAULTS.

- Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2011-2012 Ford Fusion vehicles without a 3.5L engine and Lincoln MKZ hybrid electric vehicles, 2011 Mercury Milan vehicles, 2011-2012 Ford Taurus, Ford Flex, Lincoln MKS, and Lincoln MKT vehicles equipped with a 3.5L GTDI engine and 2013 Ford Taurus, Ford Flex, Lincoln MKS, and Lincoln MKT vehicles equipped with any available engine. The affected vehicles have electric power steering assist systems that may shut down as a result of a steering motor sensor fault.
- Consequence: If the vehicle experiences a loss of power steering assist, extra steering effort will be required at lower speeds, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
- Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will check the Power Steering Control Module (PSCM) for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC). If dealers find any loss of steering assist DTCs, the steering gear will be replaced, free of charge. If, no codes are found during the PSCM inspection, the PSCM software will be updated, free of charge. The recall began on July 21, 2015. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 15S18.
- Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company
- Components: EQUIPMENT
- Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain all weather driver side accessory floor mats sold for use in model year 2006-2011 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan, 2006 Lincoln Zephyr, and 2007-2011 Lincoln MKZ vehicles manufactured November 9, 2007, through October 31, 2010. The affected floor mats may move and possibly interfere with the accelerator pedal.
- Consequence: The floor mat could shift such that it could interfere with the accelerator pedal, preventing its return to an idle position, which could result in unintended vehicle speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will install new replacement mats, free of charge. The recall began in July 2014. Owners may contact Ford's customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S07. NOTE: Vehicles built after October 31, 2010, while potentially equipped with the same floor mats, are equipped with a Brake Over Accelerator (BOA) feature that prevents simultaneous accelerator and brake application, allowing the vehicle to be safely stopped by pressing firmly and steadily on the brake pedal.

THE WHEEL STUDS MAY FRACTURE, POTENTIALLY CAUSING A WHEEL TO SEPARATE.
- Consequence: WHILE DRIVING, MULTIPLE STUD FRACTURES COULD OCCUR AT THE WHEEL LOCATION, AND THE OPERATOR MAY EXPERIENCE VEHICLE VIBRATION AND/OR WHEEL SEPARATION, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
- Remedy: FORD WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE REAR BRAKE DISC SURFACE FOR FLATNESS AND REPLACE THE DISCS AS NECESSARY. ADDITIONALLY, THE WHEEL LUG NUTS WILL BE REPLACED ON ALL FOUR WHEELS. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR ABOUT JANUARY 24, 2012. This is my second Milan Premier (the previous one being a V6). I opted for the I4 and I am extremely impressed with the 175 HP. I must say, this car is a great value for the money. I test drove the Accord and Camry, but I have to say, America, we have a winner! The Milan is extremely well-appointed. The Tuxedo Black Metallic paint is paired with the standard Camel leather interior, which looks amazing. I absolutely love the 9-speaker Sony sound system and the MicroSoft Sync is simply awesome. I can listen to my music via an iPod or thumb drive (via the USB port). The Milan is very driver-friendly, making it a pleasure to drive.

Great car! I traded in my 2007 Lincoln MKZ and found that this car is substantially less expensive when equally equipped.

Milan 4 Cylinder MPG is outstanding! Solid feel is way above expectations. This car feels much more expensive.

I recently traded in my 2005 BMW 3 series for a Milan and I must say, it's a much better ride. I was initially drawn to the Milan because of its top reliability rating from Consumer Reports, and I was pleasantly surprised by all the additional benefits it offered. Despite being less powerful than my BMW, the 4 cyl. engine provides better gas mileage, which was important to me. If power is a priority for you, I would recommend going with the 6 cyl. The drive is incredibly smooth and the storage space is huge. During my test drive, I found that the Milan had more features than the Camry and Accord, and was just as good if not better. While the Altima was a sportier ride, Consumer Reports only rated its reliability as average. Overall, I'm very happy with my decision to go with the Milan and would highly recommend it to anyone in the market for a new car.

I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying your new car! The leather interior and Sync feature sound like great additions. It's great to hear that you're satisfied with the pick-up and power, even after trading in a V6. Overall, it sounds like you made a great choice. Thank you for sharing your positive experience!

Although I had a negative experience with the transmission of this car, I still believe it has potential. After only five days of driving, I had to take it back to the dealer due to shifting issues. Despite initial excuses from the dealer about not being able to download a program from Ford to test the transmission, they eventually determined that the car needed a new transmission. While it has been in the shop for seven days, I still have hope for this car. Prior to this issue, I agreed with the positive reviews and believe that with proper service, this car can live up to its potential.

The 2000 Sable was a great car, but after over 160,000 miles, it was time for an upgrade. The dealer recommended this car as a replacement, and I confidently chose it because it has dual power seats, which are essential for my wife's back condition. Although SYNC was required to get the power seats, I appreciate the car's focus on entertainment. The volume controls are conveniently located in three different places, and the dash controls are easy to use with bare hands. The steering wheel controls are also well-placed, and I have no trouble using them. The seats are comfortable, and while the headrests initially protruded too much, I was able to easily adjust them to my liking. Overall, this car is definitely worth the investment of $28K.

Hi there! I recently bought a 2010 Milan Premier with only 15,000 miles on it. Unfortunately, I discovered that the transmission had been rebuilt at 12,000 miles and it still shifts poorly in the first through fifth gears. After doing some research on forums, I found out that Ford Fusions and Mercury Milans from 2010 tend to have bad transmissions. I'm currently looking to sell the car and would not recommend it. Thanks for reading!
