2006 Mercury Milan problems
The Mercury Milan is a mid-size car that was marketed by the Mercury division of Ford Motor Company. Named after Milan, an Italian city, the Milan was sold across the 2006 to 2011 model years in a single generation. The smaller of two model lines developed to replace the Mercury Sable, it indirectly succeeded the Mercury Mystique as the smallest Mercury sedan.
Unveiled at the 2005 Chicago Auto Show, the Milan was the first new Mercury sedan nameplate introduced since 1995, and became the final nameplate introduced by the division. Coinciding with the 2010 closure of Mercury, the Milan ended sales after a shortened 2011 model year; the final vehicle was produced on December 17, 2010. The Milan was sold in the United States (including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands), Mexico, and the Middle East.
Throughout its production, the Milan was produced alongside the Ford Fusion at Hermosillo Stamping & Assembly in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico.

Common 2006 Mercury Milan problems
The 2006 Mercury Milan has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. Here are the details of these issues:
- Airbag Inflator Recall: The 2006 Mercury Milan is affected by the Takata airbag inflator recall, which is one of the largest and most dangerous recalls in automotive history. The issue involves defective airbag inflators that may hurl shrapnel upon deployment, affecting over 34 million vehicles across 24 brands.
- Electronic Throttle Body (ETB) Complaints: There have been numerous complaints about the electronic throttle body (ETB) in Ford and Mercury vehicles, including the Milan. These complaints include sudden surges, dangerous stalls, and being sent into 'limp home mode'. This issue has been a longstanding problem for owners, with some experiencing these issues for years.
- Power Steering Issues: The Milan has been reported to have power steering problems, with some owners experiencing a sudden loss of power steering. This issue has been the subject of a manufacturer communication from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which highlights power steering fluid leaks from the steering rack and pump attachment joints.
- Transmission Issues: Some owners have reported chronic transmission issues, which may be related to a faulty program for the powertrain control module (PCM). This issue can result in a loss of brakes in emergency situations, which can be dangerous.
- Brake System Issues: There have been reports of brake system problems in the Milan, including a lack of anti-lock brakes (ABS) despite being listed as a feature in the vehicle. This can result in a loss of brakes in emergency situations, which can be dangerous.
- Engine Stalling: Some owners have reported engine stalling or dying while driving, which can be a serious safety issue. This issue has been reported in both the 2006 and 2010 Milan models.
- Door Handle Issues: The Milan has been reported to have issues with door handles, with some owners experiencing broken door handles. This issue has been reported in the 2006 Milan model.
- Rear LED Brake Panel Light Faults: Some owners have reported faulty rear LED brake panel lights in the 2010 Milan model.
It is important for owners of the 2006 Mercury Milan to be aware of these issues and to take appropriate action if they experience any of these problems. Regular maintenance and inspections can help identify and address these issues before they become serious safety concerns.

I understand that you were used to the pep and maneuverability of your '03 MINI Cooper, but it's wonderful that you're thrilled with everything about the Milan. While it may not take off quite as quickly as a CVT transmission, it still has plenty of power and is a breeze to get on the highway. I appreciate your honest feedback about the back window and rear-view mirror, as it's important to be aware of any potential blind spots. Leasing is definitely a smart option for those who want to save money, and it's fantastic that you were able to take advantage of some incentives. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

We have the Premium edition with lots of toys and the car is equal in quality to a Camry or Accord. The only disappointment is that winter mileage goes down and 23 mpg is great in the winter but 31 mpg is normal for summer highway. Overall, it's a well-appointed car and a great value.

Just after the warranty expired, the pin on the clutch broke and destroyed the transmission and clutch. However, I had purchased an extra warranty that covered the $3180 repair. It's unfortunate that this happened only 110 miles after the warranty expired, but I have since learned that this is a common issue with Fusions and Milan stick shifts. Overall, I am not very happy with this experience, especially considering that this is supposed to be a good automobile.

After test driving the Honda, Toyota, and the Milan, I thought to myself that the Ford Motor Company is back! Although the Lincoln Mercurys were nice cars, they were getting old and something was missing. That missing element has been found in the Milan, Montego, Mariner, and the Zephyr. When I was buying the Milan, the salesperson said they would go to any dealer I wanted and go head-to-head. I said, 'Let's go!' It was great to see that this vehicle has it all over the other vehicles in the marketplace, even the sister Fusion for standard equipment and style. To anyone looking, do not count this vehicle out. You will only hurt yourself in the long run.

Although there were some initial issues with the car, they were quickly resolved under warranty. The coil packs were replaced and the car has been running smoothly ever since. It's important to note that every car may have its quirks, but overall I am confident in the quality and reliability of this vehicle. I would recommend it to others who are looking for a car that is both stylish and dependable.

The car drove well with regular maintenance, but unfortunately, after the first 100,000 miles, there were problems with several hoses connected to the exhaust system, which made it much louder. Now, at 142,000 miles, it needs a new transmission and several boards. Although I trusted the brand after driving a Mercury Villager minivan for more than 260,000 miles, I won't be buying another Mercury vehicle.
