Mercury Milan 2010 problems
The Mercury Milan is a mid-size car that was marketed by the Mercury division of Ford Motor Company. Named after Milan, an Italian city, the Milan was sold across the 2006 to 2011 model years in a single generation. The smaller of two model lines developed to replace the Mercury Sable, it indirectly succeeded the Mercury Mystique as the smallest Mercury sedan.
Unveiled at the 2005 Chicago Auto Show, the Milan was the first new Mercury sedan nameplate introduced since 1995, and became the final nameplate introduced by the division. Coinciding with the 2010 closure of Mercury, the Milan ended sales after a shortened 2011 model year; the final vehicle was produced on December 17, 2010. The Milan was sold in the United States (including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands), Mexico, and the Middle East.
Throughout its production, the Milan was produced alongside the Ford Fusion at Hermosillo Stamping & Assembly in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-27
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 3MEHM0JA6AR
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: My name is [XXX] and I own a 2010 Mercury Milan. I bought it on [XXX] from an 84 year old woman who take good care of it. It had 91,000 miles which were mostly hwy miles. She kept records of all her oil changes. After having it for almost 3 years and keeping up with it myself, on February 27,2024 in the morning I put brake fluid in the car. I had brake pads and rotors done on the car in August 2023. On the evening of [XXX], my son and I took a ride to the local 7/11 which is 5 minutes away. While driving home and coming to the traffic light at the beginning of my neighborhood the light turned red. As I proceeded to stop my foot went all the way to the ground and I had no brakes. I had to go through the light because i could not stop. The car was flying down the road because it is a very steep hill. I tried to pull the emergency brake and nothing happened. I was nearing the end of the road going 40 MPH due to the hill. I thought I was going to hit my neighbors house at the bottom of the hill. My son grabbed the steering wheel to turn it and I went up on my curb, across my lawn and crashed into a storage tent on my driveway. My car was wedged inside the tent which was filled with furniture and other belongings. I called Ford Corporation in reference to this recall from December 2019 for 2010 Mercury Milans. Then I spoke with a Ford dealership in Smithtown where they were rude and said the car was 14 years old and I may have to pay if they didn't find my car was part of the recall. I tried calling several other numbers in Washington and was finally told to upload the horrible situation that had occurred due to my brakes not working on this website. Someone needs to look at my car to make sure this will not happen to others. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

- Summary: On May 10, 2024, as I was rounding a sharp curve, I applied brakes to slow down, but there were no brakes. In fact the brake pedal went to the floor. I had to use emergency brake to stop and gain my wits. I turned around and slowly drove home (about 0.5 miles) and used e-brake to stop and park in front of house. On May 21 I had vehicle towed to dealer. They found that the brake pedal was still against floorboard, but when they started vehicle, it came back up to normal position and was working fine. They could not duplicate the loss of brakes. My vehicle was manufactured within the date range of a TSB regarding hydraulic control unit and DOT3 brake fluid corrosion, but dealer says VIN not applicable to TSB. Additionally, unless included in "Zone A" above, Ford is recalling certain model year 2007-2008 Ford Ranger, Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles, 2006-2008 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan and Lincoln Zephyr/MKZ vehicles, 2005-2006 Ford GT vehicles and 2005-2008 Ford Mustang vehicles originally sold, or ever registered, in Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia, or "Zone B." Any vehicle not included in "Zone A", or "Zone B" is not included in the safety recall. These vehicles are equipped with certain air bag inflators assembled as part of the passenger frontal air bag modules, and used as original equipment or replacement equipment. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the front air bags, these inflators may rupture due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to absolute humidity and temperature cycling.
- Consequence: An inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until the repair has been performed. Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. Ford mailed interim letters informing owners that parts are not yet available on July 15, 2016. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S01.
- Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:AUXILLARY TANK
- Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2010-2011 Ford Fusion vehicles manufactured July 21, 2008, to March 4, 2011, and 2010-2011 Mercury Milan vehicles manufactured July 23, 2008, to December 10, 2010. The affected vehicles have fuel vapor canisters whose purge valves may not operate properly resulting in abnormal pressure changes in the fuel tank.
- Consequence: The pressure changes may cause the tank to crack and leak fuel. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.
- Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will update the vehicle powertrain control modules and inspect the vehicle for any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) for this issue and perform a leak test on the Canister Purge Valve (CPV). The fuel tank will be inspected for cracks. The CPV and fuel tank will be replaced as necessary. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on January 15, 2016. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 15S34.
- Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company
- Components: EQUIPMENT
- Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain all weather driver side accessory floor mats sold for use in model year 2006-2011 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan, 2006 Lincoln Zephyr, and 2007-2011 Lincoln MKZ vehicles manufactured November 9, 2007, through October 31, 2010. The affected floor mats may move and possibly interfere with the accelerator pedal.
- Consequence: The floor mat could shift such that it could interfere with the accelerator pedal, preventing its return to an idle position, which could result in unintended vehicle speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will install new replacement mats, free of charge. The recall began in July 2014. Owners may contact Ford's customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S07. NOTE: Vehicles built after October 31, 2010, while potentially equipped with the same floor mats, are equipped with a Brake Over Accelerator (BOA) feature that prevents simultaneous accelerator and brake application, allowing the vehicle to be safely stopped by pressing firmly and steadily on the brake pedal.

THE WHEEL STUDS MAY FRACTURE, POTENTIALLY CAUSING A WHEEL TO SEPARATE.
- Consequence: WHILE DRIVING, MULTIPLE STUD FRACTURES COULD OCCUR AT THE WHEEL LOCATION, AND THE OPERATOR MAY EXPERIENCE VEHICLE VIBRATION AND/OR WHEEL SEPARATION, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
- Remedy: FORD WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE REAR BRAKE DISC SURFACE FOR FLATNESS AND REPLACE THE DISCS AS NECESSARY. Great car! I traded in my 2007 Lincoln MKZ and found that this car is substantially less expensive when equally equipped.
-
The car is dependable, comfortable, and has plenty of room. I highly recommend getting the BLIS blind spot detector and the rear camera. The rear camera is especially important for this car, which has a high back end. When comparing the Mercury Milan and the Ford Fusion, I found that the Ford's styling and options seemed to be more geared towards males under 35, while the Mercury was more suited for females over 35. As a male over 35, I prioritize safety and comfort over sportiness and nice sound systems. Additionally, the Lincoln-Mercury salesman was older and less aggressive than the Ford salesman, which made for a more pleasant experience.

The car has been absolutely flawless during the first 4500 miles. It has excellent gas mileage, a smooth ride, and is very comfortable. The 4 cyl. and 6 speed transmission provide more than enough power on the highway. I have not experienced any creaks, rattles, or any issues at all with this vehicle.

I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying your new car! The leather interior and Sync feature sound like great additions. It's great to hear that you're satisfied with the pick-up and power, even after trading in a V6. Overall, it sounds like you made a great choice. Thank you for sharing your positive experience!

I have owned three Milans so far, having previously leased a 2006 and 2008 version. I am happy to report that I put 100,000 absolutely trouble-free miles on the first two. All they needed were regular oil changes and tire rotations. My 2010 is FWD (NOT AWD) and benefits from the extra 20 HP and the selectable transmission. I am very impressed with the numerous improvements and refinements that Ford has made to this model, instead of their former practice of making it cheaper (i.e., deleting content) every year. These are great cars - the Milan? Fusion - and I can wholeheartedly recommend them.

Hi there! I recently bought a 2010 Milan Premier with only 15,000 miles on it. Unfortunately, I discovered that the transmission had been rebuilt at 12,000 miles and it still shifts poorly in the first through fifth gears. After doing some research on forums, I found out that Ford Fusions and Mercury Milans from 2010 tend to have bad transmissions. I'm currently looking to sell the car and would not recommend it. Thanks for reading!

Although I had a negative experience with the transmission of this car, I still believe it has potential. After only five days of driving, I had to take it back to the dealer due to shifting issues. Despite initial excuses from the dealer about not being able to download a program from Ford to test the transmission, they eventually determined that the car needed a new transmission. While it has been in the shop for seven days, I still have hope for this car. Prior to this issue, I agreed with the positive reviews and believe that with proper service, this car can live up to its potential.

The 2000 Sable was a great car, but after over 160,000 miles, it was time for an upgrade. The dealer recommended this car as a replacement, and I confidently chose it because it has dual power seats, which are essential for my wife's back condition. Although SYNC was required to get the power seats, I appreciate the car's focus on entertainment. The volume controls are conveniently located in three different places, and the dash controls are easy to use with bare hands. The steering wheel controls are also well-placed, and I have no trouble using them. The seats are comfortable, and while the headrests initially protruded too much, I was able to easily adjust them to my liking. Overall, this car is definitely worth the investment of $28K.
