The Mercury Milan is a mid-size car that was marketed by the Mercury division of Ford Motor Company. Named after Milan, an Italian city, the Milan was sold across the 2006 to 2011 model years in a single generation. The smaller of two model lines developed to replace the Mercury Sable, it indirectly succeeded the Mercury Mystique as the smallest Mercury sedan.

Unveiled at the 2005 Chicago Auto Show, the Milan was the first new Mercury sedan nameplate introduced since 1995, and became the final nameplate introduced by the division. Coinciding with the 2010 closure of Mercury, the Milan ended sales after a shortened 2011 model year; the final vehicle was produced on December 17, 2010. The Milan was sold in the United States (including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands), Mexico, and the Middle East.

Throughout its production, the Milan was produced alongside the Ford Fusion at Hermosillo Stamping & Assembly in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico.

TO DATE FORD HAS NOT PRODUCED OR MADE AVAILABLE ANY OF THE PARTS NEEDED FOR THIS REPAIR AND WILL NOT EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE THE VEHICLE WHEN I CALLED THEM. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW LONG I HAVE TO DRIVE A VEHICLE WITH KNOWN DEFECTIVE BRAKES BEFORE FORD IS FORCED TO COMPLETE THIS REPAIR? THERE IS ALSO A BRAKE FLUID ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE THAT CANNOT BE ADDRESSED UNTIL THE NON-FUNCTIONING ABS MODULE IS REPAIRED. THE DEALER REFUSED TO CHANGE THE SAID CORROSIVE FLUID BECAUSE OF THE NON-FUNCTIONING ABS MODULE.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-06-01
  • VIN: 3mehm08z19r
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: Brake pedal going to floor extending stopping distance. Early in 2022 I took it in for recall S1954. HCU passed test and dealer replaced DOT3 brake fluid with DOt4. 5/24/2022 Brake pedal started going to floor again. Dealer performed self test of hcu and electronic bleed hcu and said pedal was somewhat better but needed $400 of brake work to for Brake pads, lining and turn rotors. Car functioned fine for a few days. In early June I was driving on a wet street and put on the brakes. It appeared the ABS system was trying to kick in and suddenly the pedal again went to the floor. I was barely able to miss rear-ending a city bus. I pulled into a gas station, turned the car off. When I started it again the brake pedal went to the floor. After pumping it a number of times it came back up and was again functioning. Took it to dealer on 6/1/22. Dealer again tested the hcu test which once again it passed. They could find no other problems. Dealers recommended replacing the abs modlule and master cylinder to the tune of $1,400. Seems like they can test and find out which part isn't malfunctioning (hcu which is under recall), but cant test to find out which part is malfunctioning (ABS module or master cylinder) There is obviously still serious issue with the brake system on these cars that is not being corrected by the initial hcu recall. It needs to be fixed before someone is killed. There were no warning lights or messages relating to the brakes.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2018-07-01
  • VIN: 3MEHM08Z39R
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: The problem I am having is with the cars braking system. I have extended brake travel required to stop the vehicle for which I have been issued two recalls. Because of the extended brake travel, I was unable to stop in time and had a front end collision with minor damage, which was not reported. The problem first showed up when I was forced to brake hard a few years causing the ABS to engage. The brake pedal traveled to the floor until the next time the ABS was engaged. Shortly after that, I was issued a recall stating the exact problem I was having. When I took it to my local dealership to get it fixed, they performed a test, changed the brake fluid, and said the system was working properly. It was not. Took it back to the dealership when hydraulic control valve became permanently locked open. They inspected it again and said the ABS unit needed to be replaced but the parts were not available. Contacted FMC customer service, and they were unable to help me either. I asked for a loaner vehicle, and received no response. Since then, I have been issued another recall and am still driving an unsafe car in a Michigan winter. All I want is a safe car to drive.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC PROBLEM

  • VIN: 3MEHM08199R
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC
  • Summary: After receiving the Safety Recall Notice 19S54 in the mail, I contacted my local Ford dealership and set up an appointment. On May 24, 2021, I brought my car to the dealership for this recall. At this time, I explained that the brake pedal was going to the floor intermittently. The car had 134,880 miles on it. The Hydraulic Control Unit was inspected and supposedly passed. So the dealer flushed the brake system and replaced the cap. After leaving the dealership, the car sat for several weeks. Two weeks after driving it again, I noticed that the brake pedal was going to the floor and it was difficult to stop the vehicle. I called the dealer and set up another appointment. The dealer had me wait about two weeks. On August 2nd, I brought my car back to the dealer for the same brake issue (Safety Recall 19S54). At this time the car had 135,492 miles. Again they inspected the brakes and the Hydraulic Control Unit. This time they found the HCU Assembly to be faulty and recommend that it be replaced. However, Ford Motor Company is refusing to cover this part under the Safety Recall 19S54 because they closed the recall after the May appointment. They want us to pay over $1500 to have it fixed.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2020-06-01
  • Crash: 1
  • VIN: 3MEHM08199R
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: VEHICLE HAS A BRAKE SAFETY RECALL 19S54 FROM JANUARY 2020. IN JUNE OF 2020 ISSUES BEGAN WHERE WHEN WE APPLY THE BRAKES AT TIMES THEY WORK FINE AND OTHER TIMES THE VEHICLE DOES NOT STOP FOR AN UNACCEPTABLE EXTENDED AMOUNT IF TIME. THE VEHICLE IN JUNE WAS INVOLVED IN A MINOR MVA WHERE THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO SWERVE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT STOPPING IN A TIMELY FASHION. LUCKILY THIS RESULTED IN ONLY MINOR COSMETIC DAMAGE (SCRAPES THAT COULD BE BUFFED OUT AT NO CHARGE) TO BOTH VEHICLES AND WITH NO INJURIES. THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY WAS CONTACTED AND THEY STATED THAT I COULD PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR THE PARTS BUT THAT THEY WOULD NOT HONOR THE RECALL BECAUSE THE PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. I SPOKE WITH WEST HERR FORD, AMHERST NY AND THEY STATED THEY DO NOT HAVE PARTS FOR THAT RECALL. THIS VEHICLE HAS REMAINED IN THE DRIVEWAY SINCE JUNE. TWO DAYS AGO THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE MOVED TO ANOTHER PLACE IN THE DRIVEWAY AND WHILE IN REVERSE THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP AND HAD TO BE SHIFTED ABRUPTLY INTO PARK TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE ISSUE IS SPORADIC AND SO YOU HAVE NO WARNING AS TO WHEN THE VEHICLE MAY NOT STOP. THERE IS NO WAY TO MAINTAIN A SAFE DISTANCE WHEN DRIVING BECAUSE THE AMOUNT OF TIME AND SPACE NEEDED TO STOP THE VEHICLE VARIES EVERY TIME. THE AMOUNT OF TIME IT IS TAKING TO REPAIR THE SAFETY ISSUE IS UNACCEPTABLE. I HAVE CONCERNS WITH THE VEHICLE NOT BEING SAFE TO DRIVE AND I DO BELIEVE THAT THIS IS AN UNACCEPTABLE TIME FRAME FOR FORD CUSTOMERS TO HAVE A UNSAFE VEHICLE THAT IS COSTING MONEY SITTING IN A DRIVEWAY. WE DO NOT HAVE EXTRA VEHICLES AND ARE IN NEED OF A WORKING VEHICLE FOR TRANSPORTATION. I WOULD APPRECIATE YOUR ATTENTION IN THIS MATTER FOR A TIMELY RESOLUTION TO REPAIRING THE VEHICLE OR PROVIDING AN ALTERNATE METHOD OF TRANSPORTATION TO THOSE CUSTOMERS WITH VEHICLES THAT ARE NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. THANK YOU FOR YOU TIME AND ASSISTANCE IN THIS MATTER.

  • Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the driver and passenger air bag module, and replace either the module or the inflator, if necessary, free of charge. The recall began March 17, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 21S05.

  • Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2006-2010 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, Lincoln Zephyr and MKZ vehicles. The valves within the ABS Hydraulic Control Units (HCU) may react with brake fluids containing specific corrosion preventative additives. This reaction may cause the valves to not close properly.
  • Consequence: If the valves do not properly close, additional brake pedal travel may be required to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will flush the brake system with DOT 4 fluid and install a new brake fluid reservoir cap. In addition, the HCU will be tested to detect a possible stuck valve condition, replacing the HCU as necessary. All services will be performed free of charge. The recall began April 1, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S54.

Negative 2009 Mercury Milan car reviews

I recently traded in my '04 Oldsmobile Aurora for a new car, but unfortunately, I'm not satisfied with my purchase. The car lacks many of the features I was hoping for, and I find it uncomfortable to drive, especially during my long commutes. Additionally, the trunk doesn't self-open, and there are no A/C or heating vents in the rear seats. I would advise anyone considering this car to do their research and carefully consider their options before making a purchase. I did try to return the car within the 3-day period, but unfortunately, I was unable to get in touch with the dealer.

The design of the car is what sold me, as well as the reliability of previous model years. Additionally, the excellent crash test scores were a major factor in my decision.

Positive 2009 Mercury Milan car reviews

My wife and I own a Ford Freestyle, and I must say, it has been a great investment. Despite my initial concerns about gas consumption, we were able to drive from Dallas, TX to New Orleans last summer on just one tank of gas, covering a distance of 490 miles. I had to stop to fill up only because my wife was worried we might run out of gas, but we could have easily reached around 520 miles. The car has an impressive fuel economy, averaging around 26 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. We both love driving it so much that my 2005 Mercedes mostly stays in the garage. We hope that Ford will continue to produce such great cars in the future.

I recently traded my 05 Lincoln Town Car for an 09 Milan V6 Premier AWD with the VOGA package. I was a bit hesitant about switching to a mid-size car after driving such a huge car, but I must say, I am pleasantly surprised by how well it handles. The car's handling is simply amazing! Living in Michigan, I have had the opportunity to test the AWD this month, and I am happy to report that I haven't gotten stuck yet, despite the heavy snow and ice. The ride is very smooth, and I absolutely adore the VOGA interior, which features camel with black trim and camel stitching. It's a beautiful car that I am thoroughly enjoying!

I traded my Lexus es350 for a new Milan. The main reason was the price. I chose the Mercury Milan because it caters to a more mature buyer, unlike the Ford Fusion. It's a shame that Mercury doesn't promote this vehicle more heavily. The Milan is superior in many ways to foreign competitors as well as GM. If you get the premier edition with Microsoft Sync, it makes driving fun and provides a very comfortable and cost-effective experience.

  4. Sterling Wunsch 2024-09-13

After 4000 miles, we are thrilled with the car! It has all wheel drive, which is essential in our area, and plenty of room for real people in the back seat. We love the good comfort overall, the smooth ride, and the ample power, all for a reasonable price.

  5. Friedrich Lockman 2024-09-01

I recently switched from a Ford Explorer to a new 2009 Milan and it has been a wonderful experience. Although I was initially concerned about the power of the I4, it has proven to be more than sufficient for my needs. I mainly use it for my daily commute, which is about 10 miles each way. However, my wife and I have found ourselves driving the Milan more frequently than her Lincoln MKX. Overall, it's a great little car from Ford that packs a big punch.
