Mercury Milan problems

The Mercury Milan is a mid-size car that was marketed by the Mercury division of Ford Motor Company. Named after Milan, an Italian city, the Milan was sold across the 2006 to 2011 model years in a single generation. The smaller of two model lines developed to replace the Mercury Sable, it indirectly succeeded the Mercury Mystique as the smallest Mercury sedan.
Unveiled at the 2005 Chicago Auto Show, the Milan was the first new Mercury sedan nameplate introduced since 1995, and became the final nameplate introduced by the division. Coinciding with the 2010 closure of Mercury, the Milan ended sales after a shortened 2011 model year; the final vehicle was produced on December 17, 2010. The Milan was sold in the United States (including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands), Mexico, and the Middle East.
Throughout its production, the Milan was produced alongside the Ford Fusion at Hermosillo Stamping & Assembly in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico.

- Crash: 1
- VIN: 3MEHM0JA6AR
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: My name is [XXX] and I own a 2010 Mercury Milan. I bought it on [XXX] from an 84 year old woman who take good care of it. It had 91,000 miles which were mostly hwy miles. She kept records of all her oil changes. After having it for almost 3 years and keeping up with it myself, on February 27,2024 in the morning I put brake fluid in the car. I had brake pads and rotors done on the car in August 2023. On the evening of [XXX], my son and I took a ride to the local 7/11 which is 5 minutes away. While driving home and coming to the traffic light at the beginning of my neighborhood the light turned red. As I proceeded to stop my foot went all the way to the ground and I had no brakes. I had to go through the light because i could not stop. The car was flying down the road because it is a very steep hill. I tried to pull the emergency brake and nothing happened. I was nearing the end of the road going 40 MPH due to the hill. I thought I was going to hit my neighbors house at the bottom of the hill. My son grabbed the steering wheel to turn it and I went up on my curb, across my lawn and crashed into a storage tent on my driveway. My car was wedged inside the tent which was filled with furniture and other belongings. I called Ford Corporation in reference to this recall from December 2019 for 2010 Mercury Milans. Then I spoke with a Ford dealership in Smithtown where they were rude and said the car was 14 years old and I may have to pay if they didn't find my car was part of the recall. I tried calling several other numbers in Washington and was finally told to upload the horrible situation that had occurred due to my brakes not working on this website. Someone needs to look at my car to make sure this will not happen to others. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

- VIN: 3MEDM0L36AR
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: On May 10, 2024, as I was rounding a sharp curve, I applied brakes to slow down, but there were no brakes. In fact the brake pedal went to the floor. I had to use emergency brake to stop and gain my wits. I turned around and slowly drove home (about 0.5 miles) and used e-brake to stop and park in front of house. On May 21 I had vehicle towed to dealer. They found that the brake pedal was still against floorboard, but when they started vehicle, it came back up to normal position and was working fine. They could not duplicate the loss of brakes. My vehicle was manufactured within the date range of a TSB regarding hydraulic control unit and DOT3 brake fluid corrosion, but dealer says VIN not applicable to TSB. I am thinking of paying for new HCU anyway, just for my family's protection. I would like my VIN to be included in TSB repair.

Vehicle year: 2010
I've only had it for 3 weeks and so far, it's been great! I compared it to the Malibu, Accord, and Camry, and it was the best option for me. It's modestly equipped with an I-4 engine and no moonroof or sync, but I was able to get it for under $20k with the incentives. The handling and performance are both great!

Vehicle year: 2007
I absolutely love my car! It has been incredibly reliable, with only the occasional need for new tires and a battery. I make sure to change the oil every 5000 miles, and the brakes are still in excellent condition. I recently did a 50,000 mile maintenance check and everything is running smoothly. Not only is it a joy to drive, but it also has a modern style that I really appreciate. I've owned about 15 cars in my life, including 6 Mercedes, but my Milan beats them all! I was considering getting a new car, but why bother when my Milan runs so well and takes me wherever I need to go without any issues?

Vehicle year: 2006
I haven't had this vehicle for very long, but it's already the best pre-owned car I've ever had! It handles well, gets decent gas mileage, and feels like it's brand new. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who asks, whether they're looking for a new or pre-owned car. I have virtually no complaints. It's the best car I've ever owned, and I would buy another one if I ever manage to wear this one out!

I went for the Milan instead of the Fusion because I preferred the exterior styling. In my opinion, this is a great car, although I understand that reviews are subjective. The leather seats are incredibly comfortable, and with 8-way adjustable seats, tilt and telescoping steering wheel, everyone should be able to find a comfortable seating position. The lumbar support is also a great feature. The car has good mpg, and I get around 28 in combined city-highway driving. The build quality seems to be good, and the car is very quiet at 70 mph with zero wind noise when the windows are up. There is a little more road noise than I would like, but it's not a major issue. Although I have a few minor gripes (see below), I would definitely buy this car again.

Vehicle year: 2011
I've had this car for about two years now and it has only needed routine maintenance (aside from some bad gas I filled up with from BP). The exterior is a little bland but has grown on me. What really sold me on this car is the interior, which I absolutely love. The heated leather seats are fantastic in the winter, and while the Sync system can be a little buggy at times, it's usually perfect.

I made the decision to trade down from an F150 SuperCrew Lariat to save money, and I am pleased to say that I have achieved my goal. Despite having a 4-cylinder engine, the vehicle handles exceptionally well and boasts impressive fuel efficiency. However, I have noticed that the driver seat is causing me some discomfort, resulting in muscle pain during my daily commute to work, which lasts for an hour each way. Additionally, I have noticed some squeaks and rattles in the car, which is disappointing given that it is a new vehicle. Despite these issues, I am confident that I made the right decision to save money, and I am satisfied with my purchase overall.

One of Ford's less-known price performers is this V-6 with plenty of power and a surprising consistent 31 MPG at highway speeds. It's comfortable and roomy with basic features that are usually sought after. This vehicle is built sturdy and economical, making it a great choice when competing with underpowered 4 cylinders in its class.

Chose Milan for $2500 savings over comparably equipped Camry. Ours is standard 4 cyl with auto package. Car pulled to right slightly on test drive, became worse as miles passed. Took to dealer for alignment at 600 miles, they had for 2 and half days. Had to replace upper control arms after alignment didn't fix problem (TSB from Ford.) Though now tracking better, tire pressure monitor system now shows fault. Now I wonder if I should have spent the extra money on the Camry.

The Milan is marketed as a replacement for the Sable, but having driven three Sables for a decade, I can confidently say that there is no comparison. While the Milan provides a smooth ride on highways, it falls short on city streets, where every bump is felt and potholes cause the car to shake as if there are no shock absorbers. Additionally, the urban gas mileage of the Milan is about 13 mpg, which is much lower than that of the Sable. During the summer, with the air conditioning on and idling, the Milan's mpg drops to 10. The wide wheelbase of the Milan also means a wide turning circle, which can be a disadvantage when parking in tight spots or making U-turns on city streets. Overall, the Milan seems to offer less quality at a higher price point compared to the Sable LS.

I hope your wife enjoys her new V6 all-wheel drive! It sounds like the Milan was the perfect choice for her, especially with the great deal you got. It's good to know that parts will always be available for it. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!
