2011 Lincoln Mks problems
The Lincoln MKS is a full-sized luxury sedan that was manufactured and marketed by the Lincoln subdivision of Ford from 2008 to 2016. First shown at the LA Auto Show in November 2007, the MKS began production for the 2009 model year at Ford's Chicago Assembly plant in May 2008 with sales beginning a month later. The MKS was the second Lincoln to adopt the "MK" nomenclature and the first model to wear it through its entire production run. With the discontinuation of the Lincoln Town Car in 2011, the MKS at 205.6-inches in length became the longest production sedan sold by an American automaker through 2016.
Sharing the Ford D3 platform with the fifth and sixth-generation Ford Taurus, the Lincoln MKS offered front-wheel drive with optional all-wheel drive (a first in a full-size Lincoln). Shared with the Taurus SHO, the 3.5L EcoBoost twin-turbocharged V6 became the first turbocharged gasoline engine in a Lincoln.
The Lincoln MKS was discontinued after 2016 and replaced by the tenth generation Lincoln Continental.

Common 2011 Lincoln Mks problems
The 2011 Lincoln MKS has been reported to have several common problems by its owners. These issues span across various areas such as the radio, brakes, axle fluid leak, and air conditioning system.
- Grunting noises from the front brakes: Some owners have reported hearing grunting noises coming from the front brakes. This issue is often associated with the brake pads wearing unevenly or the brake rotors becoming warped. This problem can lead to premature brake wear and reduced braking performance, potentially compromising the safety of the vehicle.
- Fluid leak from the axle area: Another common problem reported by 2011 Lincoln MKS owners is a fluid leak from the axle area. This issue can lead to a loss of power and reduced drivability. In some cases, the leak can be caused by a damaged axle seal, which would require replacement to fix the problem.
- Speed changing often in the A/C fan: Some owners have reported that the air conditioning fan in their 2011 Lincoln MKS changes speed unexpectedly. This issue can be caused by a malfunctioning blower motor resistor or a problem with the A/C control module. This can lead to discomfort for the driver and passengers, as well as potential overheating of the vehicle during hot weather.
While these issues can be frustrating for owners, it is important to note that the 2011 Lincoln MKS has also received praise for its spacious interior, V-8 power, and rear-leg room. Additionally, some owners have reported that their vehicles have performed well with no major mechanical or functional issues. However, it is always recommended to stay up-to-date with regular maintenance and inspections to ensure the longevity and reliability of the vehicle.

STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-11-08
- VIN: 1LNHL9FT1BG
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: In 2015 a recall was done to repair the power steering failure issue. In October of 2021, while driving the vehicle down the highway, the power steering went out making the vehicle almost impossible to steer. Had the vehicle towed to the dealership where they verified the issue and pulled code U3000 for steering gear failure. With 68827 miles, I was charged for the entire repair with not one mention about the extension to the power steering recall. The parts and labor that were charged were those mentioned in the recall. Fast forward to November 2022, had the vehicle towed to the same dealership for the same issue. Lights on the dash were present, and concern verified that the power steering was completely inoperative. No communication with the unit told me that the power steering control needed to be replaced. Again there was no mention or advocating involving the power steering recall that involved this exact issue. This time was told that they installed a part that was used in the previous repair so again I had to pay the entire cost. Currently, there are no issues with the vehicle but I have been looking to sell it because I have not driven it much due to the cost of these repairs. It was during my research to sell that I came across all the recall information on my vehicle and do not understand why all of these costs were not covered and why the dealership did nothing to advocate for me.

- Summary: As I was returning home from a haircut, my 2011 Lincoln MKS shut off as I was attempting to stop at a red light. I was able to get the car to complete stop. I looked at the dash to see if any warning signs, alerts or any gauges we abnormal. When nothing alarmed me I started my vehicle and proceeded when the light turned green approximately 1/2 mile the car stalled again as I was driving at 35 mph. I had a difficult time getting the car to stop as the steering wheel locked and the brake pedal was hard to push in. I eventually was able to get it to a complete stop on the right side of the road, by pushing extra hard on the brake and pulling the steering wheel to the right. Which the driver side of my vehicle still in the path of other vehicles I knew my car wasn’t safe there and could possibly cause an accident. I called my husband who came to the location of the car and raised the hood when he noticed the coolant in the overflow reservoir was empty. We filled the reservoir. We started the vehicle which ran normal and didn’t not illuminate any warning light or raise any gauges. Drove vehicle home which was approximately 3 miles as pulling into my driveway the temperature gauge slowly began rising above normal line. I shut car off immediately got out and raised the hood when I seen smoke emerging from under the hood. The coolant reservoir was completely empty again. My husband pulled the dipstick to check the oil where we observed antifreeze covering the entire length of dipstick. This is impossible to prevent or fix if there are no signs or symptoms given to the driver that there is a problem. We have our vehicle serviced regularly and have all the receipts to prove. Ford need to fix and /or replace these engines. People work hard everyday and depend on there vehicles for there daily lives. It’s not an honest sales when a faulty water pump is placed inside and engine knowing water pumps are a commonly replaced part and that if this water pump fails it would ruin engin

You have a really nice car with excellent performance and handling. The Nav and entertainment package is great, and the steerable headlights were a pleasant surprise. While you haven't had it for long enough to comment on reliability, there are so many automatic features that there are lots of things that could go wrong. Hopefully, they won't, but time will tell. The back seat room is awesome, and I love the paddle shift in manual and adaptive cruise. The only thing that I don't like is the location of the trunk release in the glove box. Overall, it sounds like you're in car love!
-
This is the greatest car I have ever owned! I am so happy that I didn't go with a brand new 300. The only issue I have is the lack of visibility when backing up, but the great sensors keep me happy. I love my car so much!
-
Great to hear that you had an awesome experience with your new car! It's impressive that you drove 65 miles home from where you purchased it. It sounds like you really did your research, test driving over 8 cars before settling down to this beauty.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to let you know that my Lincoln is in excellent condition. It's always been kept in the garage and my wife only uses it to commute to work and back home. The 2010 Lincoln MKS Sedan is a really nice car and it's very luxurious to drive. The exterior is a beautiful silver and the interior has black leather seats. It's fully loaded with many upgrade options, including a dual moonroof and navigation system. I'm actually planning to trade it in for a 2016 or 2017 Lincoln model. Thanks for your time!

Driving my 4-door sports car has been an absolute joy! I've owned it for 8 years and have loved every minute of it. I'm happy to report that I haven't had any major issues with it either.

Hey there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my thoughts on the MKS. While there has been a lot of hype around it, I personally don't think it lives up to all the expectations. What do you think?
Deontae Lockman 2024-06-29
I really liked this car and took good care of it, racking up a lot of miles. As someone who usually gets 250,000 miles out of a car, I expect reasonable maintenance costs to achieve this goal. Unfortunately, the water pump on this model is known to fail and can be difficult to diagnose due to coolant weeping into the crankcase. Even worse, most shops won't replace the water pump because it's located under the timing chain cover and requires the engine to be almost completely removed, resulting in a dealership cost of over $2200! This is unacceptable. If you own this car, I recommend unloading it before you need this repair. Mine made it to 164,000 miles.

I own a 2011 MKS with the 3.5 Ecoboost. While it is a comfortable car for my family of four, I have had some issues with it. The brakes wear out quickly and the motor went in the steering column, requiring a replacement. The brake booster also went out, which took a few trips to the shop to identify. However, I found that switching to a set of carbon ceramic Powerstop brakes was a worthwhile investment to keep them functioning properly on a day to day basis. The timing chain was also replaced, which is a common problem with the 3.5. Other issues I have experienced include ball joints, control arm, tie rods, rattling speakers, and sunroof leaks into the rear door. If you are considering purchasing an MKS, I would recommend doing your research and considering other options. Thank you for reading.
