The Lincoln LS is a four-door, five-passenger luxury sedan manufactured and marketed by Ford's Lincoln division over a single generation from 1999 until 2006. Introduced in June 1999 for the 2000 model year, the LS featured rear-wheel drive and near 50/50 weight distribution and was available with a V8 or V6, the latter initially offered with a manual transmission. The LS aimed to provide a blend of luxury and sport to attract a new generation of buyers to the Lincoln brand.

The LS shared the Ford DEW98 platform with the Jaguar S-Type and the Ford Thunderbird. Trim levels ranged from the base V6 model to the Special Edition V8 LSE trims in 2004, with revised front and rear fascia, taillights and foglights, and front grille.

LS models were manufactured at Ford's Wixom Assembly Plant until production ended on April 3, 2006, and the plant was idled as part of Ford's The Way Forward. Approximately 262,900 were manufactured, including 2,331 with manual transmissions and 1,500 LSE editions.

Common 2001 Lincoln Ls problems

Based on the complaints from owners of the Lincoln LS 2001, several common problems have been reported. Here is a detailed list of these issues:

  1. Engine Problems: Owners have reported various engine-related issues with the Lincoln LS 2001. These problems include bad timing chains, which can become loose over time, leading to engine failure, decreased fuel economy, and misfires. Additionally, bad timing tensioners can contribute to premature timing chain failures, affecting the engine's performance and reliability.
  2. Cooling System Leaks: Another common problem with the Lincoln LS 2001 is cooling system leaks. These leaks are often caused by old, cracked plastic piping in the vehicle. Over time, the plastic components in the cooling system can deteriorate, leading to coolant leaks and potential overheating issues, especially in stop-and-go traffic conditions.
  3. Stalling and Cutting Off: The 2004 model year of the Lincoln LS has been particularly problematic for stalling and cutting off issues. Owners have reported instances where the vehicle stalls unexpectedly, leading to safety concerns and potential repair costs. The average cost to fix these stalling and cutting off problems can be significant, highlighting a major reliability issue with this specific model year.
  4. A/C Blowing Hot Air: Some owners have experienced issues with the air conditioning system in the Lincoln LS 2001, specifically with the A/C blowing hot air. This can be attributed to various factors, such as malfunctioning components or system leaks, affecting the comfort and usability of the vehicle, especially in hot weather conditions.
  5. Hydraulic Fan Pump Issues: For the 2002 model year of the Lincoln LS, hydraulic fan pump issues have been reported. These problems can lead to overheating, as the fan pump plays a crucial role in cooling the engine. Failure of the hydraulic fan pump can result in engine overheating, reduced performance, and potential damage if not addressed promptly.
  6. Leaking Sunroof: Another common issue with the Lincoln LS 2001 is a leaking sunroof. This problem is often caused by disconnected drainage hoses running down the A-pillars of the vehicle. When these hoses become disconnected, water can leak into the interior of the car, potentially causing water damage and electrical issues if not resolved.

These common problems reported by owners of the Lincoln LS 2001 highlight various reliability issues that can affect the performance, safety, and overall driving experience of this vehicle. Addressing these issues promptly through proper maintenance and repairs is essential to ensure the longevity and reliability of the Lincoln LS 2001.

  1. Gus Hauck 2024-08-22

    1. After experiencing a poorly shifting transmission, it took me six months of complaining to the dealer, the Ford Company, and finally the Lemon Law process to get it fixed. Thankfully, the transmission works well now. 2. Unfortunately, I had some electrical problems that caused the Lincoln to quit while driving, requiring a tow from the Lincoln sponsored service. It took 2.5 hours for them to get to me. However, the dealer was able to find and fix the issue with some loose ground screws. 3. I also had a bad oil leak from the power steering assembly, but the dealer was able to fix it by replacing a defective quick change coupling. 4. On a side note, I would feel much safer if the Lincoln had different tires than the Firestone ones.

  2. Isai Paucek 2024-07-27

This vehicle has experienced several issues, including electrical shorts that blow out the tail lights, pieces of the interior falling off, a non-functional horn, backfires from the manifold, and difficulty starting. It is unfortunate that these problems have occurred, and it is understandable that this may have caused frustration. However, it is important to note that these issues are not representative of the quality of Lincoln vehicles as a whole. It is recommended to seek professional assistance to address these concerns. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

  3. Raven Torp 2024-07-19

Hey there! I wanted to share my experience with my 2001ls8. I got it back in October 2003 and it's been a blast to drive! Unfortunately, I did have a couple of issues with the sunroof and the rear right window, but the dealership was able to replace both rear window motors and get everything working again. Overall, I'm still really happy with my car!

  4. Mervin Weissnat 2024-06-26

I leased my LS V-8 in June 2001 and unfortunately experienced constant problems for the first two years. These ranged from issues with interior material quality to wind noise, constant steering vibration, brake problems, and more. I had to make multiple trips to the Service Department due to the low quality of work performed. However, I want to make sure that you are aware that this vehicle comes with a premium price tag but does not necessarily come with the same level of service as a Lexus.

  5. Andre O'Keefe 2024-04-26

Almost every item listed in the tech bulletins applies to this vehicle. The car frequently chimes with no readout, and the automatic windshield washer function sometimes comes on even on a bright sunny day for a couple of swipes. Additionally, it frequently needs a boost to begin operation in the rain. The engine light, check Advance Trac, and Cabin Filter lights often show, and there is moisture in the headlights. Resetting the computer seems to be the standard answer. The steering column assembly had to be replaced due to worn bearings. One sway bar was broken, and the other was replaced due to excessive wear of bolts. The trunk lid and left rear door were out of line. Despite these issues, the car has only 18000 miles.

  1. Greg Stehr 2024-10-18

I'm so glad to hear that you love your vehicle! It sounds like it's the perfect combination of muscle and luxury. It's great to hear that you've had no major problems or repairs with it. Passing it down to your daughter is such a lovely gesture, but I can understand why you'll miss it. Thank you for sharing your positive experience with us!

  2. Herminio Cartwright 2024-09-22

This car is a great competition for BMW, Mercedes Benz, Lexus, and other luxury cars. It is also more affordable than most of them.

  3. Brendan Parker 2024-09-11

I owned an LS V8 Sport for 10 months and have driven about 11,000 miles to date. The car has performed excellently during that period. I did experience a minor problem with the engine sensor, but the excellent dealer replaced it without any hassle. Before purchasing, I compared the LS with the Jag S type and XJ8, as well as Lexus. In my opinion, the LS provides far better value for the money than the Jag. Additionally, I found the LS to be more fun to drive than the Lexus.

  4. Kennedi Skiles 2024-09-07

After looking at the LS models, we are thrilled with our decision to purchase the 2001 LS V8 Lincoln Automatic 4-Door. It has great handling and good highway manners! We are disappointed to hear that the manufacturer has discontinued this model.

  5. Michael Gulgowski 2024-08-29

I've never had a problem with this car. It's got great power and acceleration, easy-to-use controls, and is very comfortable. Although, I do have one small complaint - the heated seats cycle off and the front leg room is a little short.
