The Lincoln LS is a four-door, five-passenger luxury sedan manufactured and marketed by Ford's Lincoln division over a single generation from 1999 until 2006. Introduced in June 1999 for the 2000 model year, the LS featured rear-wheel drive and near 50/50 weight distribution and was available with a V8 or V6, the latter initially offered with a manual transmission. The LS aimed to provide a blend of luxury and sport to attract a new generation of buyers to the Lincoln brand.
The LS shared the Ford DEW98 platform with the Jaguar S-Type and the Ford Thunderbird. Trim levels ranged from the base V6 model to the Special Edition V8 LSE trims in 2004, with revised front and rear fascia, taillights and foglights, and front grille.
LS models were manufactured at Ford's Wixom Assembly Plant until production ended on April 3, 2006, and the plant was idled as part of Ford's The Way Forward. Approximately 262,900 were manufactured, including 2,331 with manual transmissions and 1,500 LSE editions.

- Summary: We have owned this car for about 3 years and it has been one problem after another and see same problems on line 1) Will start over heating sometimes at idle sometimes while driving (try being in DFW rush hour traffic and deal with that 2) Wife was driving one day and a bolt on right lower control arm broke sending her across 4 lanes of traffic including on coming. 3) All of a sudden when brake pedal was depressed started hearing vacuum leak under dash, brake pedal real hard , and couldn't hardly get car to stop, traction control light started flashing. Found bad brake booster and sensor located on it (both unavailable from manufacturer), also found on line that to get light to stop flashing you have to take to dealer and have reprogrammed (nobody else has the ability) 4) Have constantly had problem with check engine light staying on and running rough, no power, and having to replace ignition coils 5) While wife was driving with no advance notice of any kind heading home on farm market road with no shoulder to pull off on transmission went out completely and stopped pulling 6) Rear control arm bushings go from ok to extremely bad causing back end to drift from side to side going down the highway in a blink of an eye 7) Right front sway bar link keeps wearing control arm and snapping stud off 8) Sunroof drain hoses constantly failing and allowing water to get to electrical components The list goes on but all you have to do is a online search of the LS sport with the 3.9 v-8 and see all the problems. I was in automotive for over 16 years and every vehicle generally has its know couple problems but this is way beyond that. There hasn't been any accidents or injuries but real close to it.

What a fantastic car! It's incredibly smooth and fast, with better materials than the Mercedes 430S and better road handling than a 540i. Plus, it's incredibly reliable - I haven't had to make a single repair in 100K miles! And all for just $36K off the lot. At track days, we hit 139 mph on the 17 inch Michelins - but let's keep that between us! The car performs like the Jaguar S type, but with a subtle and classy style. It even beat Lexus for JD Powers delivery awards in 2005. I hope they keep building cars like this!

This car was built to compete with the European sport luxury sedans and it did more than just compete, it topped them! Although it slipped a bit in the overall ratings due to its low rpms, it still remains one of the smoothest transmissions you will operate. On the highway, it shines and has great power at upper speeds. It is also rated as one of the top 5 safest cars of all time! I love its understated elegance and the engineers put in some work with the all-aluminum fenders and hood, as well as putting the battery in the trunk to achieve a 50-50 weight balance, which is one of the reasons for its superior handling. The aluminum J-8 engine is sweet and the Jaguar platform is impressive!

Hi there! In 2006, I owned a 2000LS 3.9V8 with around 100K miles on it. Unfortunately, I got into a fatal wreck and ended up in the hospital for 24 days with many broken bones. However, I truly believe that if I had been in a foreign vehicle, I wouldn't be alive today. Recently, I purchased a used 2005LS V8 with 60K miles on it and I feel safer than ever before. Regardless of airbags, this is a very safe car. I completely agree with Stacy M's suggestion to have airbags checked and I really hope that Lincoln brings the LS back. Best regards, Patrick.

Your Lincoln LS sounds like an amazing car! It's impressive that you're getting better mileage than the EPA posted for it. On your trip from Oklahoma to California, you averaged 30.6 mpg, with the best tank being 33.4 mpg and the worst being 27.36 mpg. It must be a pleasure to cruise the highway in style and great comfort. In town driving is around 19 mpg.

The Lincoln LS is certainly an eye-catching car that draws a lot of attention. However, it requires a lot of maintenance and upkeep. Unfortunately, since purchasing it, it has been nothing but a money pit. Within the first week, I had to have two coils repaired, which was very expensive. From minor issues to more costly repairs, it seems like there is always something that needs fixing. Recently, I stopped by an auto parts store (yet again) for help with the broken screws on the traction button that had broken. The staff complimented the car's appearance, to which I jokingly replied, 'Want to buy it?' They laughed and said, 'No way! Those are nothing but lemons!' I wish I had heard that before making the mistake of buying it.

After 3.5 years of owning a used Lincoln LS... I have to say, it hasn't been the best experience. :( Especially when taking new dates on adventures and smelling smoke burning off the engine due to a valve cover gasket leak... As I go down the highway, the steering wheel shakes vigorously, but I always make sure to reassure my passengers that everything is safe. :O Lastly, I have to refill my tires with air because I don't have the money to replace my corroding rims that are decaying from the inside out. This car has cost me more money than it was worth... I should have kept my old 87 Honda Accord that I sold for 500 bucks! It's no wonder our beloved automakers are losing ground against foreign competition... But hey, we live and learn, right?

I currently have 179,000 kms on this car and unfortunately, it seems to be experiencing some issues. The front end is rattling again even after having had front struts, sway bar links, and tie rod ends installed at 145,000 Kms. Additionally, the E-brake light is on and beeping, even though I don't use it. I'm not sure why it would need service. The traction control switch fell through the hole in the console for no apparent reason. I had to replace the power steering pump because it was leaking badly. It seems like the oil pan is leaking again, although I'm not entirely sure. The car stutters at times, which lets me know that the coil packs (5th set) will need changing soon. Overall, I'm feeling quite frustrated with the situation.

This is an awesome vehicle when running. Unfortunately, at 99k the engine threw a rod which Ford could not replace. Additionally, the lower ball joints went out which cost big bucks. It has cost a lot of money to own. However, I do want to point out that if your LS misfires, check for oil around the spark plug because it will leak oil in that area.
