Lincoln Ls problems

The Lincoln LS is a four-door, five-passenger luxury sedan manufactured and marketed by Ford's Lincoln division over a single generation from 1999 until 2006. Introduced in June 1999 for the 2000 model year, the LS featured rear-wheel drive and near 50/50 weight distribution and was available with a V8 or V6, the latter initially offered with a manual transmission. The LS aimed to provide a blend of luxury and sport to attract a new generation of buyers to the Lincoln brand.
The LS shared the Ford DEW98 platform with the Jaguar S-Type and the Ford Thunderbird. Trim levels ranged from the base V6 model to the Special Edition V8 LSE trims in 2004, with revised front and rear fascia, taillights and foglights, and front grille.
LS models were manufactured at Ford's Wixom Assembly Plant until production ended on April 3, 2006, and the plant was idled as part of Ford's The Way Forward. Approximately 262,900 were manufactured, including 2,331 with manual transmissions and 1,500 LSE editions.

Common Lincoln Ls problems
The Lincoln LS is a luxury sports sedan that combines the athleticism of a European sports sedan with the elegance of an American luxury vehicle. While the Lincoln LS is generally considered a reliable car, some model years have potential problems. Here are some common issues reported by owners of the Lincoln LS:
- Engine problems caused by bad timing chains: Some 2000 Lincoln LS owners have reported engine problems caused by bad timing chains. Over time, timing chains can become loose from normal operation, causing them to jump a tooth or break. A bad timing chain can knock the engine’s timing and lead to numerous issues, such as engine failure and decreased fuel economy. A bad timing tensioner can also be a factor in causing engine problems. Without the tensioner, timing chains can fail prematurely.
- Electrical problems: Some Lincoln LS owners have reported electrical problems with their cars, including issues with the cooling fan and temperature sensor. These problems can be difficult to trace and diagnose, especially if they are intermittent.
- Dual A/C problems: Some Lincoln LS owners have reported problems with the dual A/C system, where one side of the car may start to blow hot air while the other side continues to blow cold air.
If you experience any of these issues with your Lincoln LS, it is important to take your car to a professional mechanic for a complete diagnosis. Any information provided on this Website is for informational purposes only and is not intended to replace consultation with a professional mechanic. The accuracy and timeliness of the information may change from the time of publication.
Was the Lincoln LS reliable?
Users on RepairPal gave the Lincoln LS a 3.8 out of 5.0 reliability rating. Despite the above-average customer rating, the Lincoln LS has been known to fail on more than one occasion. If you're looking to buy a used model, you should expect some issues with the engine, transmission, HVAC, suspension, and interior.
How many miles can a Lincoln LS last?
It could last a long time(100k more) dependent on your stomach for occasional repair(some expensive). It appears you have done well so far. I agree with Andrew in that you could reach 300,000 miles if you keep up the maintenance, a few repairs and some luck.
Are Lincoln LS expensive to fix?
The average annual repair cost for a Lincoln is $879, which means it has average ownership costs.
Why did Lincoln discontinue the LS?
While larger and roomier, the LS was also less refined than its competitors in terms of interior quality and handling. Some reviewers lamented Lincoln's choice to discontinue the LS after just one generation rather than release a second generation to keep the LS nameplate competitive.

- Summary: We have owned this car for about 3 years and it has been one problem after another and see same problems on line 1) Will start over heating sometimes at idle sometimes while driving (try being in DFW rush hour traffic and deal with that 2) Wife was driving one day and a bolt on right lower control arm broke sending her across 4 lanes of traffic including on coming. 3) All of a sudden when brake pedal was depressed started hearing vacuum leak under dash, brake pedal real hard , and couldn't hardly get car to stop, traction control light started flashing. Found bad brake booster and sensor located on it (both unavailable from manufacturer), also found on line that to get light to stop flashing you have to take to dealer and have reprogrammed (nobody else has the ability) 4) Have constantly had problem with check engine light staying on and running rough, no power, and having to replace ignition coils 5) While wife was driving with no advance notice of any kind heading home on farm market road with no shoulder to pull off on transmission went out completely and stopped pulling 6) Rear control arm bushings go from ok to extremely bad causing back end to drift from side to side going down the highway in a blink of an eye 7) Right front sway bar link keeps wearing control arm and snapping stud off 8) Sunroof drain hoses constantly failing and allowing water to get to electrical components The list goes on but all you have to do is a online search of the LS sport with the 3.9 v-8 and see all the problems. I was in automotive for over 16 years and every vehicle generally has its know couple problems but this is way beyond that. There hasn't been any accidents or injuries but real close to it.

We bought this car in 08 with 42000 original miles on it in immaculate condition. We went from a Chevy Blazer to the Lincoln LS and what a difference it made! We got the deal of the century and we couldn't be happier!

Picked up a pre-owned 2006 with 32k on it. I'm really enjoying the ride, acceleration, and the interior. I'm not a big fan of all the gadgetry in other cars, so it's nice to just focus on driving. The SelectShift is great and it's always fun to blow the doors off of Beemers!

We bought this car used in 2011 while I was expecting our first child. I was very particular about the safety of the vehicle. The comfort and space were perfect for my back and belly! The driver side easy-exit seat was awesome! I felt safe riding home from the hospital with my new born daughter. Since we purchased it, we have only had to do basic maintenance- oil changes, transmission fluid & air filter etc. We are coming up on needing new tires, but apart from that, we have had no issues and it has been a blessing. Although I wish it handled better, it is still a great car. When my daughter is not with me, I would like a more exciting drive, but it might be best that it doesn't handle like a sports car...

The sports package edition, also known as the LSE, comes with V8 engines. If you see a spoiler and a sunroof, it's most likely the V8 sports edition (LSE). Personally, I have owned a 2002 Lincoln LSE (with rims, sunroof, etc.) since 2011, and it has by far been one of the most enjoyable vehicles I've owned. When I went to test drive this car, I was ready to give up for the day as I had already looked/test drove 15+ other cars throughout the day. She was hidden in the back of the car lot, like a black stallion calmly awaiting its master. It called to me. Per the usual, I asked to test drive her and was handed the keys. Once I hit the key fob, the interior lights came on as I was approaching the driver side door, and I could see the interior through the light-tinted windows. The leather and wood grain interior made me say to myself, 'Yep, it's a Lincoln.' I popped the door open to climb in, and first off, the heated leather bucket seats are by far the most comfortable I have ever had the pleasure of owning. After a minute or two of taking it all in, enjoying the smell of the leather, all the fun buttons and gadgets, something magical happened. I put the key in, and all of a sudden, my seat started moving! The steering wheel moved out towards me and down, perfectly in front of me! At this point, I came back down to earth, and growing up with a mechanic, I instantly started dissecting. The meter showed 93k miles, everything worked (electronically), oil pressure was good, temperature was holding steady, idle sounded like a cute little kitten, purring its way through a Milo and Otis dream. It was too good to be true, but I barely even got the car off the lot when I knew I had to have it. Considering the money came from my grandfather passing away, I felt like this was the car he would have wanted me to get.So, I paid $6500 cash and drove it off the lot right then and there and haven't looked back since. As I mentioned at the beginning of this review, I bought the vehicle in 2011 with roughly 95k miles and other than common maintenance, I have not had any major issues with this vehicle. Well, other than that stupid AdvancTrac issue that likes to beep for like 5 minutes every time I start the car... Other than that, the car has been a tank for me and I constantly drive back and forth from Portland OR to Spokane WA. The comfort of this vehicle on the highway is second to none... It rides very smoothly with its equal 50/50 front/back weight ratio (...hence why the battery is in the trunk!) and loves to hug corners! I highly recommend this car to anyone, young or old, who is just looking for a comfortable, nice-looking ride that can pass everything but a gas station! Strong Ford motors... And as far as people complaining about electrical stuff going out... That's because they either mistreated the car in bad weather, etc. or they are just lazy and would rather complain on a forum than actually look into addressing the issues (such as windows coming off track..) Most of the electrical work can be done fairly easily... Anyway, I hope you traded for the LS!! :)

The car is really fun to drive, but it can be quite expensive to fix. I've noticed that I tend to drive a bit faster than I intend to because it's just so enjoyable. The gas mileage is decent, although it could definitely be better.

I purchased this car as a certified used car, but unfortunately, it has required 8-9 visits to the shop in just 8 months. The check engine light has come on at least 12 times during that period. The dealership has replaced several parts, including a cylinder head, coil pack, fuel injector, spark plugs, HEGO sensor, A/C vent, and dash bezel, among others. Unfortunately, it always seems like there is a week-long wait for repairs. Additionally, the driver's side window fell out and took 5 days to fix. After getting it back, the door rattled when closing, so I had to take it back to the shop. The next day, the car wouldn't start and had to be towed to the shop, where they found a faulty power cable. Overall, I have had a frustrating experience with this car and the service I have received.

I hope you're doing well! I noticed that there aren't many positive reviews for this car, and I wanted to share my experience with it. I owned this car for 8 years and sold it when it was still in good condition. However, around the 80-90K mark, I experienced some issues with the transmission. After doing some research, I found that many other people had similar problems with their cars. It turns out that the design of the transmission was not the best, and many mechanics have seen these cars come in for repairs. The transmission was used in several different models, including the LS, Aviator, and Mustang. The issue seems to be caused by the soft aluminum casing and the steel servo pistons, which can cause the opening to widen over time and result in the loss of 2 gears. I hope this information is helpful to you!

I purchased this car in 2009 and have since invested in a new transmission, solenoid, power control module, headlights, three new coils, and now require replacement of the remaining three coils, spark plugs, and AC line, as well as fixing an oil leak caused by a faulty gasket. The total cost of these repairs has exceeded $3,000.

I purchased my car three years ago and have experienced numerous issues with it. However, I am confident that I will make a more informed decision when purchasing my next vehicle. The repairs for my current car have been costly, exceeding its current value. While I cannot recommend this particular make and model, I encourage individuals to thoroughly research their options before making a purchase.

I really enjoyed driving this car, it was comfortable and fun. However, I did experience some issues with reliability such as foggy headlights and a malfunctioning computer message center. Unfortunately, I had to take it to the shop four times in less than a year, totaling a month and a half. Although my extended warranty covered some repairs, I did have to pay for a few costly fixes. Recently, the car was stolen and has yet to be found. Perhaps it's a blessing in disguise. Who knows...
