2002 Lincoln Ls problems
The Lincoln LS is a four-door, five-passenger luxury sedan manufactured and marketed by Ford's Lincoln division over a single generation from 1999 until 2006. Introduced in June 1999 for the 2000 model year, the LS featured rear-wheel drive and near 50/50 weight distribution and was available with a V8 or V6, the latter initially offered with a manual transmission. The LS aimed to provide a blend of luxury and sport to attract a new generation of buyers to the Lincoln brand.
The LS shared the Ford DEW98 platform with the Jaguar S-Type and the Ford Thunderbird. Trim levels ranged from the base V6 model to the Special Edition V8 LSE trims in 2004, with revised front and rear fascia, taillights and foglights, and front grille.
LS models were manufactured at Ford's Wixom Assembly Plant until production ended on April 3, 2006, and the plant was idled as part of Ford's The Way Forward. Approximately 262,900 were manufactured, including 2,331 with manual transmissions and 1,500 LSE editions.

Common 2002 Lincoln Ls problems
The 2002 Lincoln LS is known for several common problems, primarily related to the engine, cooling system, and transmission.
- Timing Chain Failure: Some 2000 Lincoln LS owners have reported engine problems caused by bad timing chains, which can lead to engine failure and decreased fuel economy. Regular maintenance and checking the tensioner can help prevent timing chain issues.
- Airbag Light On: The airbag light may come on due to a faulty clock spring or other issues with the airbag system. This issue can be resolved by replacing the faulty component.
Regular maintenance and checking for common issues can help prevent many problems with the 2002 Lincoln LS. However, potential buyers should be aware of these common problems and consider the car's repair history before making a purchase.

The LS is an exceptional car, despite some minor issues. While I have experienced problems with the rear passenger window and heated seats, as well as some imperfections in the paint job, I still love my LS. It boasts a sleek black exterior with tinted windows, a high-profile spoiler, and stunning rims. The handling is superb, although there is a slight hesitation when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. Additionally, the car tends to shift back into 2nd gear momentarily after reaching 3500 rpms. Finally, there is a noticeable gasoline odor when the tank is completely full.

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my 2000 LS that I purchased back in October 1999. It was one of the early build models, built in July 1999. I've put 68,000 miles on it and it has been the most trouble-free car I've ever owned! The power is adequate, the roominess is even larger than a BMW 5-series, and the handling is phenomenal! It handles like a much smaller German sports sedan, which is amazing for a car this size. I would definitely recommend this car to anyone looking for a luxury sports sedan.

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my 2002 LS8 sport after owning it for a week and driving it 600 miles. I've been experimenting with the SelectShift transmission in various situations and I'm happy to report that it's been performing really well for me. I haven't experienced any of the problems that I've seen mentioned frequently in reviews. When I shift it as one would normally do with a manual when RPMs are at a reasonable level, it reacts without delay and shifts smoothly. Even when shifting more aggressively, the transmission performs well.

The Lincoln LS is an awesome machine, hands down. If you haven't driven one, you're missing out. The handling is great, and the power from the V8 is impressive. It also looks fantastic. Of course, there is always room for improvement - we all know about the interior storage, cupholders, and armrest, and the trunk hinges can be a bit of a nuisance. However, overall, I would rate it a 9 out of 10.

I bought my LS in March, '02 about 120 miles from home. It's such a fun car to drive! On a recent trip in the mountains, my three passengers were hanging on for dear life, but the LS hugged the curves as if it were at home. I'm still breaking it in, but I get over 26 mpg on the interstate. Every time my wife rides in it, she comments on how smooth the ride is.

I was really excited when I purchased my LS because I had always admired the car since Lincoln introduced it in 2000. Unfortunately, my experience was short-lived due to some major issues. After just a month of ownership, I had to pay $450 to replace the multi-function switch because my signal lights were acting up. Then, I had an engine misfire (which is a common problem on this vehicle) and had to replace the 3rd coil, all spark plugs, and both valve covers, which cost $1100. Lastly, my airbag light came on and it cost another $1000 to repair. I took the car to the Ford dealership for service and repair. After owning the vehicle for a year, I had to pay $2500 in non-maintenance repairs. I would advise staying away from Ford/Lincoln and the LS.

When I first bought this car, I was really impressed with it. However, over time, I noticed a decline in its quality and transmission. Unfortunately, the LS model has proven to be quite unreliable. I have had to take my car to the dealership for repairs about six times, including three times for issues with the AC, once for stuck windows, once for broken interior locks, and another time for engine problems. As a driver, I am disappointed with the build and quality of this car.

I have owned my 2002 LS for seven years now and it has been a reliable workhorse. Although the electrical system has had some issues over the years, it has always been covered under warranty and never caused any major problems. In my opinion, the 5-series BMW is not worth the extra money as the LS is a better vehicle. It's a shame that Ford stopped making them, as I would definitely buy another one. This decision is a clear example of why American auto manufacturers struggle to survive.

I purchased the 02 LS V8 three years ago and encountered several issues that required costly repairs. Despite its attractive appearance, the car's maintenance expenses, including the cost of tires, were high. Based on my experience, I have decided not to purchase a Ford/Lincoln again. Additionally, the gas mileage was not satisfactory. I recommend considering other options before making a purchase.
