2021 Hyundai Palisade problems
The Hyundai Palisade (Korean: 현대 팰리세이드) is a mid-size crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by Hyundai Motor Company since late 2018, replacing the Maxcruz (also known as Santa Fe XL outside of South Korea) as the flagship SUV under the Hyundai brand.
The term palisade means a fence of defensive stakes or a series of coastal cliffs — the latter recalling the neighborhood of Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles or the nearly forty mile Hudson River palisade, running north from opposite Manhattan.
Overview
The Palisade debuted at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show on November 28, 2018, having been previewed by Hyundai's Grandmaster concept of June 2018. The Palisade is Hyundai's largest passenger vehicle to date, measuring 4,980 mm (196.1 in) long with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm (114.2 in) inches. It has 21 cu ft (595 L) of cargo space behind the third row and 87 cu ft (2,464 L) with both rows folded down. Like its predecessor, the Palisade features three rows of seating, with seating for up to eight passengers when equipped with a second-row bench seat or seven passengers with the optional second-row captain seat.
The vehicle rated a coefficient drag of 0.33, achieved with an optimised front cooling area with extended internal air guide, aerodynamic underside panels with full front and centre underbody covers, and rear wheel aero deflectors.
Introduction of the right-hand drive model started in December 2020 in Australia and Indonesia. CKD assembly in Russia started in 2020 by Avtotor for domestic sales.

Common 2021 Hyundai Palisade problems
Hyundai Palisade Engine Problems
The Hyundai Palisade has been a popular choice for car buyers since its release in 2020, but like any vehicle, it has its share of issues. One area of concern for Palisade owners is the engine, with several common problems reported by owners of the 2021 model.
Excessive Oil Consumption
One of the most common engine problems in the Hyundai Palisade 2021 is excessive oil consumption. This issue has affected over 2 million Kia/Hyundai vehicle owners, leading to a lawsuit against the company.
Excessive Vibrations and Shaking
Another common issue reported by Hyundai Palisade 2021 owners is increased vibrations while driving. This problem is particularly noticeable at higher speeds, around 65 mph, and seems to affect different models, including the 2022 model year. While the exact cause of these vibrations is unclear, it is essential to address this issue to ensure a safe and comfortable driving experience.
Cost to Fix
Addressing excessive oil consumption in a Hyundai Palisade engine can be expensive. Repair costs vary depending on the cause, with minor fixes such as a faulty PCV valve costing around $100. More serious concerns, such as replacing piston seal rings or oil control rings, can range from $1,000 to $5,700 for a gas engine. In the worst-case scenario, such as needing a complete engine replacement, the costs will be on the higher end of that range. A head gasket replacement due to a leaking head gasket can cost anywhere from $900 to $1,800 per cylinder head.
In conclusion, while the Hyundai Palisade has been a popular choice for car buyers, it is essential to be aware of these common engine problems and their costs. Regular maintenance and addressing issues promptly can help ensure a safe and reliable driving experience.
What is the biggest problem with the Hyundai Palisade?
Hyundai has issued a safety recall that applies it over 4,000 units of the Palisade built during the 2024 model year. The SUVs included in the campaign could experience a valve spring failure, a problem that can cause major engine damage including puncturing a hole in the block.
Is Hyundai Palisade reliable?
The 2024 Hyundai Palisade has a predicted reliability score of 81 out of 100. A J.D. Power predicted reliability score of 91-100 is considered the Best, 81-90 is Great, 70-80 is Average and 0-69 is Fair and considered below average.

The car is available for inspection, Upon request. Online and saw other people with similar stories and issues With the Palisade. SEAT BELTS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-01
- VIN: KM8R2DHE8MU
- Components: SEAT BELTS
- Summary: The seatbelt indicator lights for both the driver seat and passenger-side third row seat appear to be faulty. The issue first appeared with the driver seatbelt chime, which would ding while the seatbelt was in-fact in use by the driver (i.e. the driver was buckled, but the indicator would chime as if the seatbelt was not buckled). The car was taken in for service and the issue was communicated to the service provider-a possible solution was recommended. At a later date, the chime for the third row (passenger side) seat began to chime faultily too. The indicator would chime both when the passenger was buckled, but also when there was no occupant in the seat at all. The concern is that seatbelt indicators are not working properly and therefore may impact other safety measures related to the affected seatbelts. The issue is still on going, most actively in the third row passenger-side seat.
STEERING,POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-17
- VIN: KM8R4DHE5MU
- Components: STEERING,POWER TRAIN
- Summary: In June of 2024, my Hyundai Palisade started shuddering every time I shifted from 20mph to 30mph. Twice the car shuddered and stopped at intersections and had to be shut off and restarted. I then received an engine light on my dashboard. I dropped off at Safford Hyundai in June and after evaluation by mechanic was told several components should be changed. 1)Replace three ignition coils 2)Replace three injector gaskets 3)Replace all 6 spark plugs 4)Perform Fuel Injector cleaning service. Total cost was $2,875.95. I was told the repair would take 1 day but received the car after 5 days and that too after many calls and emails. On the day we received the car, we had to drive long distance for our summer vacation. Within a few miles of our summer vacation, the car started shuddering again. This problem was supposed to be solved by the repairs that had just been done. I immediately informed Safford Hyundai. When we got back from vacation, I took the car to a nearby well know mechanic and he immediately said that was a transmission issue and should have been covered by Hyundai warranty. I went back to Safford Hyundai dealership and that is when they said indeed it was a transmission issue and was covered by warranty. This was on 8/7. Unfortunately because of the huge backlog of Hyundai transmission issues, I was told I wouldn’t receive my new transmission for 1 to 2 months. I contacted Hyundai corporate and pushed to get my car back. I was told they would expedite my transmission and was told to pick up the car on 8/30. I went to pick up the car and immediately noticed that the steering wheel sounded like it was being sandpapered every time I turned. My car steering wheel turned smoothly prior to the whole transmission change. I literally made a circle around the service center and turned my car in back for repair. I was told to leave my car at the Hyundai dealership and they would get back to me. My car is still in repair. Email several times.

- VIN: KM8R74HE5MU
- Components: SEAT BELTS
- Summary: The seat belt buckle in the 2nd row and 3rd row seats are too low and put a high back booster and occupants at risk. My son is at the correct height and weight to transition into a high back booster and he and I are struggling to get the metal latch into the buckle. It’s extremely hard to determine if the seat belt latches correctly into the buckle because no click noise is heard. The buckle should raise out of the base of the seat at least another inch or two to allow children and adults to buckle safely.

- VIN: KM8R74HE8MU
- Components: VISIBILITY,STRUCTURE
- Summary: While driving down the interstate heard a loud sound, sounding like a shot gun. Looked and the sunroof shattered. Immediately took it into the dealership and they determined it was not hit by anything and they have been seeing a rise of this happening. They are fixing under warranty and had to give me rental car because they don’t know how long it will take. It was extremely scary and thankfully my sunroof cover was closed. I can easily see this causing a car accident.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-24
- VIN: KM8R2DHE3MU
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: If you have the child locks engaged on the driver side door controls, the back locks will continuously click as if they are trying to lock/unlock. This can happen when opening the locks with the fob, or randomly while driving. There are multiple reports of this issue on online forums such as Reddit, [XXX] , etc. This should be considered as a known safety issue with the potential to impact the health and wellbeing of children riding in the back of Hyundai models, yet no recall is in place to address it. Multiple owners have reported dealing with Hyundai dealerships on this issue at this time, not sure why Hyundai is dragging their feet in addressing this obvious safety concern??? SEAT BELTS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-16
- VIN: KM8R5DHE1MU
- Components: SEAT BELTS
- Summary: The seat belt in the 2nd row where my child sits, comes unlatched while driving. Happened in the driver seat as well. This is a major safety concern given they come unlatched without pressure. We always double check now that we pull it after inserting to double check it is all the way in and it still has happened. It has not been inspected by manufacturer or dealership yet. Just bought used from a dealership in December (5 months ago). The vehicle is available upon request for inspection at anytime. The seat belt light alarms when it becomes unlatched. It’s been happening for a few months- I initially thought my child wasn’t clicking it in all the way but even after double checking it myself and when it happened in the driver seat this week- I believe it is not user error. I’ve searched online and saw other complaints of this same issue.

Clicking will continue for a good minute before a Child Safety Lock failure message appears on the dash. Message only stays up for two seconds before going away. I absolutely adore this car! It's the best car I've ever ridden in or driven. My son finally feels safe in a vehicle, which is a huge relief for me. After doing a lot of research, my husband and I decided to get the limited edition, and I couldn't be more impressed. This car is going to be my forever car. I turn heads driving through our town, and the inside is incredibly comfortable. I can't wait to take it on a family vacation. The gas mileage keeps getting better and better, and my husband and I both fit comfortably in the third-row seat. He's 6'2 and 300 pounds, and it was still comfortable for both of us. This car exceeds all the other vehicles I test drove. The parking cameras are my favorite feature. I love how it alerts me when our dog is getting too close to the sides or front and back ends, and it even alerted me when something came flying by while I was backing up. The seats are also incredibly comfortable. I used to have a Kia SUV, and the seat was so uncomfortable that I'll never go back. We got hit with an ice/snow storm the weekend we bought ours, and this car was AMAZING! If you're considering buying a Palisade or something else, do yourself a favor and go test drive one. Thanks to this car, I love driving again!

This car has all the nice features you can think of and the drive is really smooth.

I recently purchased a 2021 Palisade and overall, I'm happy with it. Although it has less than 5,000 miles on it, I believe it was a good purchase. However, I did have an issue with the front end of the vehicle. Unfortunately, it is made entirely out of plastic and a small rock kicked up by a car in front of me caused a golf ball sized hole in the front lower valance. I took the car back to the dealership hoping they would warranty the plastic, but unfortunately they did not. They explained that the bumper did not fail, so they could not warranty the part. While I understand their position, I do feel that it's not right to put thin plastic on the front of the car knowing it will be picking up road debris and not cover damage under warranty. The parts and labor will cost me around 500 dollars, which is frustrating to have to pay before my first service. I have been a long-time Honda owner and have never had any problems, so I'm a bit disappointed. In hindsight, I should have bought a Passport, but I guess we live and learn.

I recently purchased the top of the line Calligraphy Palisade and I must say, it is truly awesome in all respects. I have owned 50 new vehicles in my lifetime and this one is by far the best. If you are considering purchasing a luxury vehicle such as a Lexus, Mercedes, BMW, or others costing $10,000 or more, I highly recommend giving the Palisade a chance. You won't be disappointed!

I noticed that the tailgate glass on my 2021 Hyundai Palisade is rubbing against the frame, causing the paint to chip. If you also have a Palisade, it might be worth checking the tailgate back window glass framing to make sure you're not missing any paint.

This car has several quality issues, including problems with brake fluid and oil consumption. It is not the most fuel-efficient option on the market. It is likely that Hyundai will issue a recall for some of these issues in the future. However, it is important to note that these concerns do not necessarily reflect the overall quality of Hyundai vehicles.
Guiseppe Glover 2024-03-24
This car is great, but there are a couple of issues that need to be addressed. Firstly, the lack of memory settings for driving modes is inconvenient. It would be much better if the car could remember the adjustments made by the driver. Additionally, there is significant wind noise around the driver's window that needs to be addressed. These issues can be easily resolved to make this car even better.

I purchased my Palisade brand new in February and it quickly won me over during the test drive. Despite test driving other cars, I knew this was the one for me. Unfortunately, on Friday, April 30th, I experienced an issue where the car suddenly stopped accelerating and made a loud noise. Although this was unexpected and disappointing, I am confident in the expertise of the Hyundai team to resolve the issue. Prior to this incident, I had given the Palisade a 5-star rating due to its exceptional performance. With only 4,456 miles on the car, I am hopeful that this issue will be resolved quickly and I can continue to enjoy my beloved Palisade with the same level of confidence and satisfaction as before.

I appreciate the design of the car, but unfortunately, I experienced some issues with the Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) feature. Even after turning it off, it continued to operate, and the dealer was unable to assist me. Additionally, I noticed a significant amount of wind and road noise, and the ride quality was not up to my expectations. The steering felt slow, and the car leaned a bit in curves and turns. For a vehicle priced at $50,000, I was disappointed with my experience. I would rate it 2 stars. I also had a question about the gas tank size of midsize SUVs, as I noticed that even this car only has an 18.8 gallon tank. I wonder why this is the case, especially when compared to the Subaru Ascent, which has the largest tank at only 19.something gallons. Can you provide any insight?
