The Hyundai Genesis (Korean: 현대 제네시스) is an executive car manufactured and marketed by Hyundai Motor Company over two generations from 2008 until 2016, before it was renamed the Genesis G80. It is a five-passenger, four-door, rear- or all-wheel-drive sedan.
Introduced in concept form at the 2007 New York International Auto Show, and internally designated as the BH model, the Genesis was expected to cost $533 million to develop. Hyundai began marketing the first generation Genesis worldwide (except in Europe) in 2008 as a "premium sports sedan". On 4 November 2015, Hyundai announced that the name Genesis and Hyundai's second generation luxury model would move to a new and separate luxury division, Genesis Motor. The Genesis — as a Hyundai model — was replaced in actuality in 2017 when the second generation Hyundai Genesis was renamed the G80. The move followed the model's success in the luxury market, paired with consumer acceptance of the Genesis nameplate.

- Summary: While driving the vehicle with approximately 113,200 miles on it, as the original owner, the car engine started to operate erratically. then the check engine light came on and then the check oil light came on and, after a short period of driving, the car stalled out and would not start up. This stalling out happened in a left turn lane of a very busy road. Two men in a vehicle that stopped behind me got out and pushed me off of the roadway about a block away from a dealer. The car was manually pushed into the dealership. The mechanic checked and the oil was full. The car is available, in my garage, for inspection upon request. The number 1 cylinder valve spring was broken and the engine jumped the timing on both sides with $2792.53 to $7,086.78 for parts plus labor to repair. At 86,283 miles, while driving in my village the number 3 intake valve spring broke and was repaired. At 51,574 miles, while driving on the interstate, the number 7 exhaust valve spring broke and was repaired. All three times the vehicle operated erratically. The car was in traffic each time this occurred and my safety and the safety of others were put at risk. I have all the receipts from all three breakdowns including the diagnosis. The engine is apart now and I have the parts list and labor costs from the dealership for the work that needs to be done. Initially I was told by the dealer that I needed to have all 32 valve springs and rocker arm assemblies replaced according to a Technical Service Bulletin. When I protested that they did not do that during the previous repairs the dealer said they would only replace the one that was damaged. That is why there are two parts estimates. I have them both. The check engine light came on just after the engine started to operate erratically and the check oil light came on shortly thereafter. I contacted the manufacturer and they said they could do nothing.

The concern is that this may cause the air bag to deploy inadvertently or increase the chance of flying shrapnel if/when the air bag should deploy during an accident. This problem started around 90,000 miles and has continued to get worse (The vehicle currently has approximately 125,000 miles). I took the vehicle to the dealer when the problem first appeared, but was told it was not a safety concern, and that it was not covered under the warranty. However, I feel this in fact could cause injury to anyone riding in the front passenger seat. 1 picture is attached.

- Summary: My son was driving this car home from college mid-day on October 8. He had not driven the car for 10 days or so while at school and he did notice the brakes making an unusual sound that day he had never heard. While on the highway, there was a sudden stop ahead of him. When he pressed the brakes they completely stopped working and he rear-ended the car in from of him. The brakes were completely non-functional after the crash and he had to try to stop his car as best as he could without brakes. Luckily there were no injuries, however complete brake failure out of the blue is obviously enormously dangerous. The tow truck driver confirmed that brakes did not work at all and speculated that a "brake-line snapped". I have no idea if that is true or why he thought that. The car is totaled and no inspection of the car has taken place. We have the car at our house and it is available for inspection as we try to figure out what to do with it. There were no warning lights prior to the issue. Less than a week after the accident we received a Notification of Extended Warranty from the car manufacturer regarding a possible issue related to brakes. And we have read about other braking issues that have evidently arisen over the years with this model year car.

- Summary: I am sending this email in regards to my dashboard cracking around the airbag. It looks like someone has taken a box cuter and sliced my dashboard. Everyday, I notice more and more cracks. Now I am at three cracks (one was small and now it has spread) I am from southern California and my car is parked outside with windows cracked half way with a window shade for my front window. I am concerned about this as I do have passengers in my car and not sure if the airbags will deploy or not. Looks like this is a problem as looking at the Hyundai dashboard, there are many concerns. I WAS ABLE TO AVOID A COLLISION WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE AND GOT THE CAR TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE BRAKE PEDAL EVENTUALLY REGAINED PRESSURE AND BEGAN FUNCTIONING AGAIN. OVER THE NEXT 5-6 MONTHS THE BRAKES PROGRESSIVELY GOT WORSE EACH TIME I DROVE THE CAR. I WAS CONSISTENTLY HAVING TO PUMP THE PEDAL AND NEEDED TO KEEP GIVING MYSELF MORE AND MORE DISTANCE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THROUGHOUT THIS PERIOD THE EXTERIOR BRAKE LIGHTS AND OTHER SENSORS ON THE CAR WOULD STOP FUNCTIONING ENTIRELY FOR PERIODS OF TIME. THOSE LIGHTS AND SENSORS EVENTUALLY QUIT AND NEVER TURNED BACK ON. AT THIS POINT VEHICLE BRAKES WERE GETTING WORSE AND WORSE AND IT HAD NO FUNCTIONING BRAKE LIGHTS SO I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THAT I ORIGINALLY PURCHASED THE CAR FROM FOR REPAIRS. THE DEALER WAS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS NOT ABLE TO MAKE REPAIRS TO THE CAR BUT THEY WERE ABLE TO DIAGNOSE WHAT WAS GOING ON WITH MY VEHICLE. THEY DOCUMENTED AND DESCRIBED SOME SORT OF CONTAMINATION IN THE BRAKE FLUID THAT HAD TURNED IT INTO A WHITE GOOEY SUBSTANCE AND THAT FLUID CAUSED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE AND WORE COMPLETELY THROUGH THE ABS MODULE. COINCIDENTALLY THAT IS THE EXACT SAME DESCRIPTION THAT WAS GIVEN FOR THE RECALLS IN 2013 THAT WERE ASSOCIATED WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF CAR (NHTSA CAMPAIGN 13V489000). THE PREVIOUS OWNER DID HAVE THOSE 2013 RECALL REPAIRS MADE AT ABOUT 60,000 MILES BUT THE SAME ISSUES THAT CAUSED THE FIRST RECALL ARE OBVIOUSLY OCCURRING AGAIN WITH THE CAR CURRENTLY AT ABOUT 120,000 MILES. THE MANUFACTURER DEALER WANTS $2500 TO REPLACE THE ABS MODULE AND TO RESET THE COMPUTER WHICH IS OVER HALF OF THE BLUE BOOK VALUE. THAT ALONG WITH THE $1000 ALREADY SPENT TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEMS, THE CAR IS NOW BORDERLINE TOTALED AT THIS POINT.

UPON BLEEDING THE SYSTEM, THE DEALERS NEW BRAKE FLUID CAME OUT WITH SLUDGE FLOATING ON TOP OF CLEAR FLUID. I CONTACTED THE DEALERS GENERAL MGR. AND COMPLAINED OF A BAD DRAIN REPAIR. HE ASKED ME TO BRING MY CAR IN AND THEY'LL CHECK IT AGAIN. I SHOWED HIM THE PICTURES AND THEY DENIED THAT IT CAME FROM MY CAR, BUT THEY WOULD FIX MY CAR'S BRAKES FOR $2700.00 WITH NO GUARANTEE THAT IT WOULDN'T COST MORE. THIS WAS TOM AH DEALER SHIP IN LIMA, OHIO. I FEEL THAT HYUNDAI SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE BRAKE PROBLEMS.I HAVE THE FLUID SAVED AND PICTURES ALSO. UPON CHECKING THE INTERNET, I HAVE BEEN ADVISED THAT THE ESC AND CRUISE CONTROL IS WIRED TO THE ABS SYSTEM. I WAS ON INTERSTATE 75 AND THE CAR JUST STARTED APPLYING THE BRAKES BY THEMSELVES. A RATCHETING ON OFF EFFECT. I SLOWED THE CAR DOWN AND PULLED THE CAR OVER TO THE SIDE. I WAS WITHIN SIGHT OF MY TURNOFF STATE RTE 274 OH, SO I CONTINUED ON. I WENT TO STOP AND MY PETAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I WAS GOING SLOW, MADE MY TURN AND STOPPED. I GOT UNDER THE HOOD JUST TO SEE IF SOMETHING VISUAL WAS THERE. I WAS WITHIN 7 MILES OF MY HOME A STRAIGHT LINE, SO I WENT FOR IT. I PRESSED ON THE GAS AND MY LEFT FRONT WHEEL WAS LOCKED UP. IN OTHER WORDS; (PLEASE WRITE A BLANK CHECK TO US.) THIS IS A HYUNDAI PROBLEM AS A MANUFACTURER. THEY PUT DOT 3 FLUID IN THE SYSTEM AT BIRTH OF THE CAR AND IT CAUSED CORROSION INTERACTING WITH THE ZINC PLATING INTERNALLY. PROPER TESTING WASN'T DONE PRIOR TO ASSEMBLY SIGNOFF. THE RECALL CHANGED THE FLUID TO DOT 4 AND IN MY CASE THE FLUID WAS NOT PROPERTY DRAINED AND CHANGED AND MY PICTURES OF THE FLUID PROVE THE SEPARATION AND CRUD IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM. MANY GENESIS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM AND HYUNDAI SHOULD BE FORCED TO MAKE THIS REPAIR ON THE AFFECTED CARS. WHAT IS A BIGGER SAFETY CONCERN THEN HAVING YOUR BRAKES GO OUT WHEN APPLIED. MY CAR WON'T STOP AS THE BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR ALL THE WAY DOWN.THE ABS & ESC LIGHTS COME ON WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THE BRAKE FLUID WAS CHANGED IN 2014 AND AGAIN IN 2019. A NEW MASTER CYLINDER, FRONT BRAKE LINES, BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH AND DIODE WAS INSTALLED IN MARCH 2019. TOOK IT TO DEALER IN APRIL 2019 AND THEY ALL WAS OK EXCEPT ESC LIGHT WAS ON. DROVE IT HOME AND LESS THEN 60 MILES THE BRAKES PETAL AGAIN WENT TO THE FLOOR. TAKING IT BACK TO DEALER IN LIMA, OH ON MAY 15, 2019. I PUT IN A COMPLAINT TO CONSUMER [email protected], BUT THE GIRL WHO RETURNED THE CALL, READ FROM A SCRIPT AND SAID SORRY, YOUR CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY. PLEASE REFERENCE YOUR CASE NUMBER 15737333. THIS CAR IS UNFIT TO DRIVE AND FROM OTHER POSTINGS, IT WILL COST $2500 TO REPAIR. THE CARS VALUE IS BETWEEN $3600/5600 DOLLARS.THIS IS AN ON GOING SAFETY PROBLEM THAT HYUNDAI HAS PUT OFF MAKING A PROPER REPAIR, RELYING ON TIME AND MILES TO GET OUT OF A SAFETY RECALL. 2009 Hyundai Genesis recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2009 Hyundai Genesis.
- Manufacturer: Hyundai Motor America
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH
- Summary: Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2009-2011 Hyundai Genesis vehicles manufactured April 30, 2008, to November 21, 2010, and 2011 Hyundai Equus vehicles manufactured July 31, 2010, to November 21, 2010. Due to a circuit failure, the stop lamps in the affected vehicles may not illuminate.
- Consequence: A following vehicle may not recognize that the vehicle is slowing or coming to a stop if the stop lamps on the vehicle do not illuminate as expected. There is an increased risk of a rear-end crash as a result.
- Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will repair the stop lamp switch circuit, free of charge. Hyundai issued an interim notification to owners on January 6, 2015. The recall began on March 23, 2015. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-671-3059. Hyundai's number for this recall is 125.

- Summary: Hyundai is recalling certain model year 2009-2012 Genesis vehicles manufactured April 30, 2008, through March 28, 2012. The vehicles may contain brake fluid which does not protect against corrosion of the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU).
- Consequence: If the module corrodes, reduced brake effectiveness may result, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners and instruct them to bring their vehicle to a dealer for service. Hyundai will inspect the HECU module for proper operation, and will replace the modules as necessary. Hyundai will replace the factory brake fluid in those vehicles that have not previously had the factory brake fluid replaced. These repairs will be done free of charge. The recall began on December 24, 2013. Owners may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151 or by email at [email protected]. Hyundai's recall number is 114.

- Summary: Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 Accent, model year 2007-2011 Azera, Sonata and Sante Fe,2006-2011 Tucson, 2009-2011 Elantra Touring, 2007-2010 Elantra, 2008-2011 Veracruz, 2009-2011 Genesis, 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, 2007-2008 Entourage, and 2006-2008 Tiburon vehicles. Originally, in April 2013, Hyundai recalled 1,059,824 model year 2007-2009 Accent and Tucson, model year 2007-2010 Elantra, model year 2007-2011 Santa Fe, model year 2008-2009 Veracruz, model year 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, and model year 2011 Sonata vehicles. In September 2013, Hyundai informed the agency that it was adding more vehicles to this campaign, representing an additional 652,512 units. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 1,712,336. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake transmission shift interlock feature, preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate.
- Consequence: Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, when the ignition is in the 'ON' position, the transmission shifter may be able to be moved out of Park without first applying the brake. This may lead to unintentional movement of the car which may increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the stop lamp switch, free of charge. The safety recall began on April 22, 2013. Owners may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's recall campaign number is 110.

I tinted the windows and added blind spot mirrors to both exterior mirrors because I like to switch lanes quickly. This car is the best car I have ever bought. I compared it against the Cadillac, Maxima, Lexus ES350, and Acura TL, and I like this car the best. My kids wanted me to buy another Chrysler 300C, but they were sold on the rear legroom once they got to go for a test drive in my Genesis.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with my new car. It's only been three days, but I'm already in love with it! The White Satin Pearl exterior and Beige leather interior make it a real beauty, and the technology is top-notch. I haven't had it long enough to comment on mileage or reliability, but I'm excited to find out. The manuals are also excellent and have been a great help in getting to know my new car.

This car is truly amazing! The leather-wrapped dash, air-conditioned seats, sound system, and adjustable headlights are just a few of the incredible features it offers. Even though I've never owned a luxury car myself, many of my friends who do are blown away by what this car has to offer, especially considering its price point of under 40K. It's not uncommon for Lexus, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz drivers to approach us and compliment the car's beauty, often surprised to learn that it's a Hyundai. I highly recommend this car to anyone and everyone, and I'm excited to see what Hyundai has in store for the future!

I've been eagerly waiting for this moment for 3 months now. I've already driven over 10,000KM in my car and I can't wait to drive it every day. The acceleration is incredibly smooth and the car has an impressive amount of power (375HP) and torque. It handles like a dream and the brakes are top-notch. The interior is very upscale and the fit and finish are superb. In my opinion, the Tech package is definitely worth it. I don't want to sound too positive, but I have to say that you won't believe how amazing this car is until you try it for yourself. I've had countless people ask me what kind of car it is and I've even noticed people rubbernecking while I'm driving. I've added the winged logos to the back and front, and I have to say that Hyundai has done a fantastic job with this car.

I leased the Genesis when it first arrived at the dealers. However, I will be turning the car in soon and finding a replacement due to some issues I have with the car. Unfortunately, the stereo has terrible sound quality, and I have not been able to use my iPod as the stereo only supports 1st and 2nd generation iPods. They claim this car has the same stereo as a Rolls Royce, but I guess the stereo sound is bad in a Rolls too. On the bright side, the car has plenty of power, but it has a problem putting the power to the road. The six-speed transmission has a shift point from 1st to 2nd right in the middle of a turn from a stop that makes the car 'jump' and engage the traction control. If they fix some of these issues, maybe I'll consider buying one.

The ride is a bit busy, reflecting a stiffer suspension than the Azera. Unfortunately, the rear seats do not fold and there is no passenger seat memory. Additionally, the rear leg room is limited for a 115 in wheelbase. However, the interior is nicely finished. It's worth noting that a cassette tape player is not included.

I recently purchased a Hyundai after owning premium/luxury cars for almost a decade. Although my friends and family were skeptical, I was excited to try something new. Unfortunately, I have encountered some issues with the car, such as rattling/grinding sounds when driving at lower gears, jerky transmission shifts, and squeaking/cranking sounds from the rear seat while driving. Additionally, I have experienced a loud rumbling noise when starting the car, vibrations while driving, and worn-out tires at only 25k miles. I have been working with dealers and HMA Consumer Affairs to address these problems, but unfortunately, they have not been able to see the issues. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced similar problems. Despite these challenges, I remain hopeful that we can find a solution. Thank you for your help!

This car either drifts dramatically or catapults. My receiver went bad and Hyundai wants 1900. They won't do a thing for me. I called Lexicon, what a joke! The voice activation is also connected to the receiver. Bottom line, Hyundai says I use the radio too much. Not all bad though, I still have a 15,000 mile warranty on the powertrain. Yippee!

Hi there! I've been leasing this car for a year now, with two more years to go. While the stereo and interior look great, and the seats are comfortable, I have to say that the ride is just not up to par. In fact, it's so bad that it makes me feel a bit seasick on the roads.
