Lincoln Ls 2000 problems
The Lincoln LS is a four-door, five-passenger luxury sedan manufactured and marketed by Ford's Lincoln division over a single generation from 1999 until 2006. Introduced in June 1999 for the 2000 model year, the LS featured rear-wheel drive and near 50/50 weight distribution and was available with a V8 or V6, the latter initially offered with a manual transmission. The LS aimed to provide a blend of luxury and sport to attract a new generation of buyers to the Lincoln brand.
The LS shared the Ford DEW98 platform with the Jaguar S-Type and the Ford Thunderbird. Trim levels ranged from the base V6 model to the Special Edition V8 LSE trims in 2004, with revised front and rear fascia, taillights and foglights, and front grille.
LS models were manufactured at Ford's Wixom Assembly Plant until production ended on April 3, 2006, and the plant was idled as part of Ford's The Way Forward. Approximately 262,900 were manufactured, including 2,331 with manual transmissions and 1,500 LSE editions.

Common Lincoln Ls 2000 problems
Based on complaints from owners of the 2000 Lincoln LS, several common problems have been reported:
- Engine Problems - Timing Chain Failure:
- Timing chains in the 2000 Lincoln LS can become loose over time, leading to issues like engine failure and decreased fuel economy. A bad timing chain can disrupt the engine's timing, causing significant problems. Additionally, a faulty timing tensioner can contribute to premature timing chain failure.
- Coil on Plugs:
- The coils on plugs in the V8 models of the Lincoln LS are a major issue. Owners have reported misfires, rough idling, and engine shutdowns due to faulty coils. Replacing these coils can be costly, and aftermarket options are recommended for a more cost-effective solution.
- Cooling System Leaks:
- The cooling system in the Lincoln LS is prone to leaks, often caused by old and cracked plastic piping. This issue can lead to overheating and potential engine damage. Regular maintenance and inspection of the cooling system are crucial to prevent these leaks.
- Hydraulic Fan Pump Issues:
- Specifically affecting the 2002 models, the hydraulic fan pump problems can lead to overheating issues. Unlike the later models with electric fan pumps, the first-generation LS models face challenges with coolant circulation and fan operation.
- Leaking Sunroof:
- Owners have reported issues with leaking sunroofs in the Lincoln LS. Drainage hoses running down the A-pillars can become disconnected, causing water leaks. Repairing this issue may involve dropping the headliner and addressing the drainage system.
- Faulty Window Regulators:
- Another common problem involves faulty window regulators, leading to issues with window operation. This can result in inoperative rear power windows and may require regulator replacements to resolve the problem.
These common problems with the 2000 Lincoln LS highlight various issues that owners have faced, ranging from engine-related issues to cooling system challenges and other mechanical concerns. Regular maintenance, timely repairs, and thorough inspections can help mitigate these issues and ensure the longevity of the vehicle.

EVERY TIME I CAME TO A RED LIGHT THE CAR WAS RELUCTANT TO STOP. THERE IS NOTHING IN THE WAY OF THE GAS OR BRAKE PEDAL AND UPON EXITING THE VEHICLE THERE WAS A SMELL OF PLASTIC OR RUBBER BURN OFF. THIS STARTED IN AN EMERGENCY ROOM PARKING LOT AND CONTINUED THROUGH THE CITY STREETS UNTIL I ARRIVED HOME. MY CAR ONLY HAS 98,208.1 MILES ON IT AND I AM THE THIRD OWNER. I love the way the car handles and looks! However, I have had more than my share of problems. I had to rebuild the rear end, replace 2 rear axles and bearings, replace 4 headlight units, and deal with airbag issues. All of these problems have me considering a replacement car already!
-
I'm glad to say that I've enjoyed driving my car, although there was an incident where the valet driver decided to have some fun speeding through the parking lot on a cold rainy night. However, the dealership I bought it from fixed it beautifully and now it drives like a dream again. Apart from the rear window arm breaking a couple of times, there have been no problems (fingers crossed).
-
I have to say, this is one of my favorite cars of all time. I'm so happy with my decision! Although, it's worth noting that the window regulators may go out early, and Lincolns often have transmission issues unless they're carefully looked after. But, other than those minor issues, the car is fantastic - fast, comfortable, and most importantly, reliable. I definitely recommend this car to anyone who appreciates class. Just remember to take care of it, and it'll take care of you!
-
I never thought I would drive a Lincoln, but when they rolled out the LS, I had to have one and I'm glad I gave them the chance. I had a BMW, which was a great car, but the LS has more room and appeal to me.
-
Your car has been great for the first 8 years since you purchased it new in 2000, with no maintenance issues. Although in the last couple of years, you had to have the differential rebuilt at 100k ($1000), a new rack and pinion ($650), and new front ball joints ($450) which broke while driving, causing the car to slam down onto the street. Luckily, you were going slowly and there was no damage to the car or driver. You also had to replace a couple of coils and valve cover gaskets ($850). On your current trip, the alternator went bad ($390), but luckily you were only a few miles from a Lincoln dealership in Oklahoma City. Your car now has 130,000 miles and has been fine since those few repairs, so let's hope for the best. I can see that you are very careful about maintenance, doing the transmission and radiator every 50,000 miles, and now you will also do the differential. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

I purchased my Lincoln a year and a half ago. Since then, I have had to replace 3 going on 4 window motors (each costing around $200), a new ball joint ($400), different valves ($200), and also kept up with scheduled maintenance. Unfortunately, despite the mechanic's opinion that Ford's lack of grease was the cause of the $400 expense, Ford refused to reimburse me. It's a little ironic that my car had been checked for that exact recall before I bought it. Overall, I have had some issues with my car and would not recommend it to those without extra money to spend. This has definitely made my first car buying experience a memorable one.
Erling Muller 2024-10-15
At 20 years old, I have owned both a 1996 Dodge Ram and a Lincoln. While I initially thought the Lincoln was an upgrade, it has unfortunately been plagued with numerous issues. From both catalytic converters needing replacement within the first week of ownership, to poor gas mileage, a broken driver's door, and difficulty starting the engine, it has been a frustrating experience. Most recently, the power steering pump failed, rendering the car undrivable. As a result, I am now in the market for a new car. I strongly advise against purchasing this car, as it has depreciated significantly in value and has caused nothing but trouble. My personal experience has shown that it is not worth the investment.
Kolby Lynch 2024-10-15
This car is definitely eye-catching, but unfortunately, I had some issues with Ford's quality and design. The transmission failed and I had to replace a simple air/breathing hose, which was located under the intake manifold and fuel injectors. The cost of labour was quite high, but I was able to get it fixed. The brake system and suspension also needed attention, which was an additional expense. The interior had some problems too. Overall, my experience with this car has led me to boycott Ford. However, I hope that they can improve their quality and design in the future.

I purchased the car from the original owner when it had 63000 miles on it. I was immediately drawn to its sleek design and smooth driving experience. Although it was initially priced at $13,000, I was able to negotiate and ended up paying only $9000. While I did encounter a few issues during the year and a half that I owned it, such as a faulty thermostat, a slipping transmission, a broken rearview mirror, and problems with the air bags and battery, I was able to address these concerns and keep the car running smoothly. Despite these minor setbacks, I still managed to get a respectable 12 miles per gallon on premium fuel. Overall, I enjoyed my time with this car and appreciated its unique features and style.

Hi there! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share my experience with my car. I bought it back in 2004 when I was only 18 years old and it was such a flashy and sweet ride! However, over time, I've had some issues with it. The headers went bad, it started overheating, the driver door wouldn't open, and the engine started skipping or misfiring. I also had some problems with antifreeze leaking and bad tires. Unfortunately, my boyfriend and I had a scary experience when we were driving back from vacation only a month after purchasing the car. The tire blew out on the highway and caused the car to spin around, but thankfully, we weren't injured and no one else was hurt either. Despite these issues, I still have some fond memories with my car.
