The Lexus ES (Japanese: レクサス・ES, Hepburn: Rekusasu ES) is a series of mid-size executive cars marketed since 1989 by Lexus, the luxury division of Toyota, across multiple generations, each offering V6 engines and a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout. The first five generations of the ES used the Toyota Camry platform, while the latter generations are more closely related to both the Camry and the Avalon. Manual transmissions were offered until 1993, a lower-displacement inline-four engine became an option in Asian markets in 2010, and a gasoline-electric hybrid version was introduced in 2012. The ES was Lexus's only front-wheel drive vehicle until 1998, when the related RX was introduced, and the sedan occupied the entry-level luxury car segment of the Lexus lineup in North America and other regions until the debut of the IS in 1999. The ES name stands for "Executive Sedan". However, some Lexus importers use the name, "Elegant Sedan".

Introduced in 1989, the first generation ES 250 was one of two vehicles in Lexus's debut range, along with the LS 400. The second generation ES 300 debuted in 1991, followed by the third generation ES 300 in 1996, and the fourth generation ES 300/330 in 2001. The first- through fourth generation sedans shared body styling elements with Japan-market Toyota sedans, and a domestic market equivalent, the Toyota Windom (Japanese: トヨタ・ウィンダム, Toyota Windamu), was sold until the launch of the fifth generation ES in 2006. The word "Windom" is a combination of "win" and the suffix "dom" expresses a state of perpetual victory. The fifth generation ES used body styling marketed by Lexus as L-finesse and debuted in early 2006 as a 2007 model. The sixth generation ES debuted in the first half of 2012 as a 2013 model, and features increased cabin dimensions due to a longer wheelbase which is shared with the full-size XX40 series Avalon.

Lexus has positioned the ES in the comfort luxury segment, with an emphasis on interior amenities, quietness, and ride quality, in contrast with more firm-riding sport sedans. Buyers seeking more performance-focused models are targeted by the Lexus IS and rival makes, with such models offering a sportier drive with differently tuned suspensions. In Europe, Japan and other markets where it was not available until the seventh generation model, the GS sport sedans occupy the mid-size category in the Lexus lineup until it was cancelled August 2020. In the United States, the ES has been the best-selling Lexus sedan for over fifteen years.

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-07-19
  • Date Complaint: 2024-08-10
  • VIN: JTHBK1EG0B2
  • Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: I started my vehicle and drove about 1/2 mile when the car started acting like it was running out of gas. I pulled over and got about 1gallon of gas in a gas can and put it in the vehicle. I turned the car back on and drove about 2 blocks when the vehicle started jumping like it was going to run out of gas again. The vehicle then shut down while I was driving it. I made it to the side of the road and put the vehicle in park and turned off the ignition with the push start button. I tried to start the vehicle again with the push start button and the vehicle would just try to start but just crank and not turn on. This ended up being a fault fuel pump. After some research I was able to find out Lexus had several thousand vehicles of the same year make and model recalled due to a faulty fuel pump that goes out while driving causing a dangerous driving condition which is exactly what occurred in my vehicle. I contacted Lexus and was told my vehicle was not included in the recall which I don’t understand due to the fact that my fuel pump went out while was driving. I am requesting this issue be investigated and the vehicle be added to the list of recalled vehicles with faulty fuel pumps

The light fixtures also is an issue I'm not sure if they're supposed to go down no matter how many lights and replacements you do they still become dim which is dangerous at night while driving in the woods or on dark paths 4 the fuel system they tell to use premium gas which is 91 but then the dealers take to use 87 which causes a stalling on the I believe transmission which is also another faulty issue cuz no matter how many times you replace everything is still very faulty I ran into a lot of people and Friends who have the same issue and again I'm a person who take care of my car and 5 last but not least all the windows and sunroof keep opening which I didn't know was that supposed to be a feature.

  • Date Of Incident: 2019-07-05
  • Date Complaint: 2024-07-05
  • VIN: JTHBJ46G682
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: The dashboard of the vehicle has deteriorated causing an extreme shiny surface all over. This can be seen at even given time of inspection. A recall was released to do this issue but when the LEXUS Newport News, VA dealership was contacted, the response was this vehicle was not included. During this time the vehicle was already in the need of the dashbpard being replaced due to the reasons stated in the recall letter. The vehicle was later taken to the same dealership whom denied the recall action, for a different service. The representative that was spoken with for the recall was present and seen the condition of the dashboad. the representative then stated that there was a recall for this issue. I reminded them of the call and the rep replied, if we would have known it was this bad, then we would have added your vehicle to the list for repair. I was told since the original recall date had expired for that repair issue that they were not going to honor the repair, even after acknowledging the damage and agreeing that it should have been included. The representative proceeded to suggest me to pay them as the dealer for a dashboard replacement. I asked to speak with another asociate which in turn advised the same information. The suggested service and charge, was declined. This dashboard has caused a mirror like glare in the windshield. It obtructs the view of objects while driving. Eye apparrel has been applied along with, seat position adjustments, and a towel placed to cover the dashboard while operating the vehicle. This is unsafe and as time goes on this issue continues to get worse. I have not had an auto insurance representative inspect the issue. I was unaware that this maybe an option.

  • VIN: JTHBK1EG7A2
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER,VISIBILITY/WIPER
  • Summary: I have been driving with a shiny sticky dashboard that reflects light directly into my eyes when I'm driving creating a dangerous driving condition. I was just made aware that there was a Lexus Customer Support Program ZLZ to replace this defective dashboard but I never received a recall notice. I have asked Lexus corporate and the dealership to help me resolve this dangerous defect but they said the program has expired and is no longer willing to help. I am a senior citizen and cannot afford to pay for this out of pocket or buy a new car. This defect is a widely known issue and Lexus has acknowledged that this is causing a dangerous condition while driving. I cannot understand why they would not resolve this matter regardless the program expired or not especially if owners did not received the notice. Please help. Lexus is unwilling to resolve this matter even though they know this defect is causing dangerous driving conditions which may lead to accidents.

  • VIN: JTHBJ46G082
  • Components: TIRES
  • Summary: I purchased and had installed 4 - Nokian Tyres One 215/55/17 on [XXX]. I brought my car to my Lexus dealer on [XXX] for routine car maintenance. When inspected, all four tires had a circumferential crack on the interior side wall. They were deep and went virtually around the entire tire. I was told not to drive the car and replace the tires immediately. At that point, we had put 30,000 miles on the tires and there was still plenty of tread. We returned to our tire dealer, and when he contacted Nokian, they said that this had been a problem with this group of tires, and although there wasn't a recall, they were replacing the tires for free on an "as-needed" basis. Our dealer replaced the tires, although I must say I am leery of this brand. In any event, there should be a formal recall on these tires. The navigation system can be difficult to use and control, with occasional errors in route planning and voice command interpretation. It may be more effective to use your own phone for navigation. Unfortunately, over time, the voice recognition and navigation system has become increasingly problematic, to the point of being potentially dangerous. The constant need to correct the system's mistakes can be distracting and frustrating. It is disappointing that Lexus has not made any upgrades to improve the system's performance. Overall, my experience with the system has been negative and I have lowered my rating accordingly.

When I test drove this model, the roads around the dealership were smooth asphalt, so the car felt fine. However, after purchasing a closeout, brand new 2014 model, I quickly became disappointed with the comfort and ride. Although Lexus is known for comfort, this car did not meet my expectations. The 2013 model change made the car more 'sporty', resulting in feeling every bump and crack on the road and hearing a lot of tire noise on the highway. I often feel fatigued after driving it. If you prefer a taught, sporty car where you can 'feel' the road, then this might be the car for you. Personally, I switched to a 2015 Impala 1LZ and am in heaven! The comfort is unbeatable!

This is my third lease of the ES350 and likely my last. While I enjoyed the driving experience of my two previous cars, I have some concerns about the sound system of the 2019 ES350. Additionally, I find the touch pad for using the information system to be overly sensitive and difficult to use. However, I am confident that these issues can be resolved with the help of the Lexus service department. I have been in contact with them and they have assured me that the speakers are working as designed. They have also explained that the new sound system is intended to be a concert-style sound with the majority of the sound concentrated in front rather than the rich, full surround sound experience. While this may not be to everyone's taste, I appreciate their explanation and willingness to help. Overall, I am still very happy with my Lexus ES350 and look forward to resolving these minor issues. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I had the opportunity to live with this vehicle for one week while my GS F Sport had a sunroof issue repaired. I must admit, I may be biased because of my generic rear wheel Gs. First off, it looks nice. However, I did notice that the interior was slightly cramped in head room compared to mine, which I noticed just by standing alongside it. Additionally, the dash is a little cheapened from the previous ES and Gs. They even put a toggle to adjust the temperature, which seemed a bit odd to me. Now, when it comes to driving it, if you are used to a front wheel drive vehicle, you will definitely like it. The infotainment center is improved, but I’m not really a tech guy. The drive is smooth, as expected from a luxury car. However, personally, it felt a bit front end heavy as you accelerate and steer. It felt like it needed sand bags in the trunk to even the weight distribution out. The more I drove it, the more I wanted my car back. Even if they add the rear axle and make it an AWD car, I would still look for another car down the road. It's a nice car, but definitely not for me.

I was one of the first to purchase the new 2019 Lexus ES 350 with the 10-speaker premium sound system. Like many others, I was impressed with the ES 350 and other models, which always had a decent sound system, so I focused on the rest of the car. During delivery, I mentioned that the sound system did not sound right. It was very late at night, so we went home with the car, and the sales manager assured me that they would make it right if I needed help. However, I later discovered that the sound system was not up to my expectations. I tried everything, even took it to work and let everyone else play with the adjustments, but it still didn't sound good. I took it back to the dealer, and although they were unable to fix the issue, they were very understanding and helpful. They even submitted a TSB and acknowledged that they had heard of this problem before. I contacted the customer satisfaction department and expressed my concerns. Although they were unable to buy back the car, they were very professional and courteous throughout the process. I appreciate their efforts and hope that they will continue to improve their products in the future.I submitted my request immediately, but due to the holiday season, it took over two weeks for it to be processed. After that, I was informed by Headquarters that it would take 4 to 6 weeks to receive a response. Unfortunately, 6 weeks passed without any updates, despite my numerous emails and voicemails starting from the 4th week after they received the buyback package. Every time I contacted them, I was told to wait until the next week, which was very frustrating. After 9 weeks, I called in and expressed my dissatisfaction, only to be told that the case was closed. Throughout this entire process, I never received any communication from Lexus, which was very disappointing. As a loyal Lexus customer, I have owned several models, all of which had great audio systems. However, this particular model has been a huge disappointment. Despite my efforts to get it resolved, Lexus refused to buy it back, leaving me with a car that I dislike so much that it sits unused in my garage. I have yet to receive the official response in the mail, but I am already very disappointed with the entire experience. I hope that more people read my reviews and avoid buying this model to avoid the same frustration that I have experienced. As a loyal customer, I feel cheated by Lexus, and I hope that they will take steps to improve their customer satisfaction policy.

Hey there! If you're looking for a great car, I'd recommend shopping around for the best pricing. This car is really well thought out and has a good ride. Plus, the back seat room is really spacious! :)

I have owned both a 2008 and a 2016 ES ultra luxury, and I must say that the ES is an excellent car for everyday use. It handles very well and is extremely reliable. While it may not be suitable for track racing, neither are the C class or 3 or 5 series BMWs that I have owned. In fact, the ES is much more serene and exciting than those cars, especially when you consider the condescending service departments and the warranty issues. The Lexus ES is a luxurious and reliable car that offers a unique 'feel' of quality and thoughtfulness that cannot be found in other cars in its price range. You have to own it to notice it. If you are looking for a sportier sedan, the GS is a great option. When shopping for the ES, it is important to note that the type of wheels and tires you choose will affect the car's quietness. The Michelin tires that come with the car are rated as top 3 by tirerack.com, while the Bridgestone tires are rated dead last. The 17-inch wheels for 2016 look great, but if you get the ultra luxury model, you will have to swap them out for the 18-inch wheels. However, I recommend test driving both to see which one you prefer. In 2016, the suspension was updated and more sound deadening was added, making the car even better than previous models. The Lexus ES is 80% of the top-of-the-line Lexus LS, but for almost half the price. It's a great car that should not be overlooked, unless you are trying to impress people who insist that luxury must be sporty and rough-edged.

Upgraded from a 2016 ES 350 to the 2020 ES350. I am absolutely thrilled with the quality both inside and out. I considered the Cadillac CT-5 and an Audi A5, but ultimately came back to Lexus. In my opinion, there is simply no better car in this price range.

This is my second ES. The previous one was an ES 330. The car is impressively quiet in terms of road noise. Performance is great, unless you are used to driving a high-performance BMW. It's easy to look down and realize you're cruising at 80, thinking you're driving at 60. The interior materials are all of high quality. I only have two complaints. Firstly, the sound system is sub-par for this class of vehicle. Secondly, there is a persistent rattle in the sunroof area that the dealer cannot seem to fix. There are also other bump-related rattles that seem to develop during the first 20k miles.

I purchased the Lexus ES-350 primarily for comfort and I'm happy to say that I got exactly what I hoped for. Additionally, the designers provided some unexpected features for convenience. However, I do have a suggestion for improvement. It would be great if the climate controls could be reengineered to make it easier to understand and execute the means for turning on and off the air conditioning.
