The Lexus ES (Japanese: レクサス・ES, Hepburn: Rekusasu ES) is a series of mid-size executive cars marketed since 1989 by Lexus, the luxury division of Toyota, across multiple generations, each offering V6 engines and a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout. The first five generations of the ES used the Toyota Camry platform, while the latter generations are more closely related to both the Camry and the Avalon. Manual transmissions were offered until 1993, a lower-displacement inline-four engine became an option in Asian markets in 2010, and a gasoline-electric hybrid version was introduced in 2012. The ES was Lexus's only front-wheel drive vehicle until 1998, when the related RX was introduced, and the sedan occupied the entry-level luxury car segment of the Lexus lineup in North America and other regions until the debut of the IS in 1999. The ES name stands for "Executive Sedan". However, some Lexus importers use the name, "Elegant Sedan".

Introduced in 1989, the first generation ES 250 was one of two vehicles in Lexus's debut range, along with the LS 400. The second generation ES 300 debuted in 1991, followed by the third generation ES 300 in 1996, and the fourth generation ES 300/330 in 2001. The first- through fourth generation sedans shared body styling elements with Japan-market Toyota sedans, and a domestic market equivalent, the Toyota Windom (Japanese: トヨタ・ウィンダム, Toyota Windamu), was sold until the launch of the fifth generation ES in 2006. The word "Windom" is a combination of "win" and the suffix "dom" expresses a state of perpetual victory. The fifth generation ES used body styling marketed by Lexus as L-finesse and debuted in early 2006 as a 2007 model. The sixth generation ES debuted in the first half of 2012 as a 2013 model, and features increased cabin dimensions due to a longer wheelbase which is shared with the full-size XX40 series Avalon.

Lexus has positioned the ES in the comfort luxury segment, with an emphasis on interior amenities, quietness, and ride quality, in contrast with more firm-riding sport sedans. Buyers seeking more performance-focused models are targeted by the Lexus IS and rival makes, with such models offering a sportier drive with differently tuned suspensions. I had the opportunity to live with this vehicle for one week while my GS F Sport had a sunroof issue repaired. I must admit, I may be biased because of my generic rear wheel Gs. First off, it looks nice. However, I did notice that the interior was slightly cramped in head room compared to mine, which I noticed just by standing alongside it. Additionally, the dash is a little cheapened from the previous ES and Gs. They even put a toggle to adjust the temperature, which seemed a bit odd to me. Now, when it comes to driving it, if you are used to a front wheel drive vehicle, you will definitely like it. The infotainment center is improved, but I’m not really a tech guy. The drive is smooth, as expected from a luxury car. However, personally, it felt a bit front end heavy as you accelerate and steer. It felt like it needed sand bags in the trunk to even the weight distribution out. The more I drove it, the more I wanted my car back. Even if they add the rear axle and make it an AWD car, I would still look for another car down the road. It's a nice car, but definitely not for me.

I was one of the first to purchase the new 2019 Lexus ES 350 with the 10-speaker premium sound system. Like many others, I was impressed with the ES 350 and other models, which always had a decent sound system, so I focused on the rest of the car. During delivery, I mentioned that the sound system did not sound right. It was very late at night, so we went home with the car, and the sales manager assured me that they would make it right if I needed help. However, I later discovered that the sound system was not up to my expectations. I tried everything, even took it to work and let everyone else play with the adjustments, but it still didn't sound good. I took it back to the dealer, and although they were unable to fix the issue, they were very understanding and helpful. They even submitted a TSB and acknowledged that they had heard of this problem before. I contacted the customer satisfaction department and expressed my concerns. Although they were unable to buy back the car, they were very professional and courteous throughout the process. I appreciate their efforts and hope that they will continue to improve their products in the future.I submitted my request immediately, but due to the holiday season, it took over two weeks for it to be processed. After that, I was informed by Headquarters that it would take 4 to 6 weeks to receive a response. Unfortunately, 6 weeks passed without any updates, despite my numerous emails and voicemails starting from the 4th week after they received the buyback package. Every time I contacted them, I was told to wait until the next week, which was very frustrating. After 9 weeks, I called in and expressed my dissatisfaction, only to be told that the case was closed. Throughout this entire process, I never received any communication from Lexus, which was very disappointing. As a loyal Lexus customer, I have owned several models, all of which had great audio systems. However, this particular model has been a huge disappointment. Despite my efforts to get it resolved, Lexus refused to buy it back, leaving me with a car that I dislike so much that it sits unused in my garage. I have yet to receive the official response in the mail, but I am already very disappointed with the entire experience. I hope that more people read my reviews and avoid buying this model to avoid the same frustration that I have experienced. As a loyal customer, I feel cheated by Lexus, and I hope that they will take steps to improve their customer satisfaction policy.

As some others have mentioned, adjusting the rear speakers to provide decent sound is not possible. The fade option is not helpful at all. Essentially, you only get the sound from the front speakers, which is similar to what I experienced in my 1960 Plymouth. I wish I had tested the speakers before purchasing the car, as it would have been a deal breaker for me. Additionally, the touchpad on the info system is quite difficult to use and requires taking your eyes off the road for too long. I hope Lexus has adequate insurance to cover accidents caused by drivers not paying attention to the road. Despite these concerns, I must say that the 2019 model is a significant improvement over the 2014 model. It is quieter, more comfortable, sportier to drive, faster, and better in every way. However, the two major issues I mentioned earlier remain. When I reported the radio issue to Lexus, they informed me that the system was designed to work exactly as it does. I find this puzzling. After owning the car for 14 months, my initial evaluation remains unchanged. The car handles exactly as expected from a Lexus - very quiet, very comfortable, but unexciting. However, my issues with the sound from the entertainment system and the dangerously distracting touchpad not only remain but have become even more infuriating the longer I drive this car. I detest the speakers. I listen to music whenever I am in the car, and the terrible sound is a daily reminder of how much I dislike this car. I was considering selling it and taking a loss, but due to the financial collapse caused by Covid, that is no longer an option.And I hope that other owners of this model will follow my lead and stop using the built-in touchpad, as I fear that someone driving a similar model may cross a double line and harm my family. Many states have laws against distracted driving, but few seem to acknowledge that using the touchpad while driving is not much different from texting while driving.

I lease a new Lexus 350 every 3 years. The last model I had was the 2016, which I absolutely loved. Although the new 2019 es350 that I have leased is a luxury package, I am disappointed with the interior and visibility while driving. It is not as spacious or comfortable as I had hoped. The stereo system was advertised as top of the line, but it is far from it. The sound quality is poor and there is no surround sound. The back speakers are completely silent and the music is mono instead of stereo. Overall, I am not as excited about my new car as I was before. However, I am hopeful that I will find ways to make it work for me.

Hello! We are thrilled to share our experience with the 2019 ES350. This is actually our fourth Lexus and third ES, and we couldn't be happier with our purchase. We initially considered the new LS500, which is a fantastic vehicle, but we were pleasantly surprised by the 2019 ES350. The ride is incredibly quiet and comfortable, and the Ultra Luxury model offers all the features we were looking for at a much lower cost than the LS500. Even our neighbors noticed the difference in the ride quality compared to our 2018 model. Plus, the gas mileage is great and we love that it uses regular gas. We're particularly enjoying the HUD feature, the large navigation/information display, and the extra quality leather seating. The climate control is also a huge upgrade from our 2018 model. The only downside is that we're a bit disappointed in the radio sound quality of the Mark Levinson audio system. Overall, we highly recommend the 2019 Ultra Luxury version of the ES350. It's a fantastic car that offers a great value for the quality you get. Thank you for considering our experience!The car was purchased primarily for my wife's use, and although I drove it little, I noticed that the audio system (Mark Levinson, '17-speaker, 1800-watt, PurePlay Surround Sound') did not meet my expectations. I tried working with a Lexus technician and even called Lexus Consumer Care, but unfortunately, my case was closed as the Mark Levinson audio system 'works as designed'. However, I believe that the system does not perform as Lexus claims it does. The audio quality is not Surround Sound, and it is questionable whether the 10 speaker ports operate as 17 speakers. Interestingly, Lexus now describes the audio system performance as 'Concert facing audio quality', which seems to be a new term to replace 'Surround Sound'. I am disappointed that Lexus is not addressing this issue, and I am unsure of what steps to take next.

If you like the styling, that's great! Personally, I find it a bit fussy, especially the cowcatcher grill. However, the ride is very good, and the handling is impressive for this type of car. It's also incredibly comfortable and quiet, with great fit and finish. Surprisingly, it gets 35-39 mpg on regular fuel on the highway. The head-up display is fantastic, and the map display is really impressive. Rain-sensing wipers and auto headlamp dimming are implemented nicely, and the overhead camera view is a great feature. The seat adjustments are fine, and the real leg room is impressive. However, the interior design could be improved. The hump over the cluster has two of the least-used controls front and center, which can be a bit distracting. The touchpad is also a bit difficult to use at first, but you'll get used to it. The USB port for the phone is under a flip-up cover that also reveals the second cup holder, which can be a bit inconvenient. It's also worth noting that the stereo fader needs to be tuned carefully. Despite these minor issues, the car is still a great choice. The adaptive cruise control works well, and the controls are easy to use once you get used to them. Overall, it's a great car that's definitely worth considering.It's a shame that the default distance is always the longest, which can be quite annoying. Additionally, the steering wheel has too many switches, which can be distracting. Perhaps the designers should take a drive in a Honda to get some inspiration. While visibility to the sides and rear isn't the best, the blind spot monitors work well enough to compensate, as long as you pay attention to them. For $50k, getting all the bells and whistles is a decent deal, but if the Genesis G80 AWD got better mileage on regular gas, the choice wouldn't have been so clear. Overall, I'm getting used to the interior quirks, and the ride quality makes up for a lot. You really need to drive one to see if the same compromises work for you. On a positive note, I've found that once you train yourself to find the click stops without looking, the trackpad is less of a distraction. Despite the scathing reviews of the sound system (Mark Levenson), I find it acceptable. I listen to classical music and don't want exaggerated surround sound or booming bass. I suspect that the system was tuned more for that than rap, country, or rock, but your mileage may vary. Unfortunately, the navigation system has become a real annoyance. It will choose routes that are ridiculous, including the ones suggested. It can't be trusted if you don't have some outside knowledge. Google Maps via iPhone is preferable.
