The second generation ES 300 debuted in 1991, followed by the third generation ES 300 in 1996, and the fourth generation ES 300/330 in 2001. The first- through fourth generation sedans shared body styling elements with Japan-market Toyota sedans, and a domestic market equivalent, the Toyota Windom (Japanese: トヨタ・ウィンダム, Toyota Windamu), was sold until the launch of the fifth generation ES in 2006. The word "Windom" is a combination of "win" and the suffix "dom" expresses a state of perpetual victory. The fifth generation ES used body styling marketed by Lexus as L-finesse and debuted in early 2006 as a 2007 model. The sixth generation ES debuted in the first half of 2012 as a 2013 model, and features increased cabin dimensions due to a longer wheelbase which is shared with the full-size XX40 series Avalon.
Lexus has positioned the ES in the comfort luxury segment, with an emphasis on interior amenities, quietness, and ride quality, in contrast with more firm-riding sport sedans. Buyers seeking more performance-focused models are targeted by the Lexus IS and rival makes, with such models offering a sportier drive with differently tuned suspensions. In Europe, Japan and other markets where it was not available until the seventh generation model, the GS sport sedans occupy the mid-size category in the Lexus lineup until it was cancelled August 2020. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2012 Lexus Es350.

- Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2010-2016 4Runner, 2003-2006 Tundra, 2003-2013 Corolla, 2009-2010 Corolla Matrix, 2004-2005 RAV4, 2002-2007 Sequoia, 2011-2013 Sienna, 2008-2012 Scion xB, 2008-2009 Lexus IS-F, 2007-2012 Yaris and Lexus ES350, 2010-2017 Lexus GX460, 2002-2010 Lexus SC430, 2006-2012 Lexus IS250 and IS350 and 2010-2015 Lexus IS250C and IS350C vehicles. These vehicles had their driver or passenger frontal air bag inflators previously replaced under a prior recall using inflators of the same design. The inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.
- Consequence: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners. Depending on the vehicle model, dealers will replace the front driver inflator, front passenger airbag inflator, the airbag assembly, or the front passenger airbag sub-assembly and inflator. The recall began November 20, 2019. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371 or Lexus customer service at 1-800-255-3987. Toyota's numbers for this recall are J0A, J0B, and J0C. Lexus' numbers for this recall are JLI, JLJ, and JLK.

Depending on the model, dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag inflator or the air bag assembly, free of charge. The recall began on February 1, 2017. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331, or Pontiac customer service at 1-800-762-2737. Toyota's numbers for final remedy for this campaign are G0P (Toyota Zone A), G0R (Toyota Zone B), H0A (Toyota Zone C), GLG (Lexus Zone A), GLH (Lexus Zone B) and HLA (Lexus Zone C).

I love my Lexus! It's amazing how long these cars last. My current car, a 2012 ES, is not only beautiful but also quick and quiet. It does everything well and the standard audio system with Bluetooth and navigation are very functional and easy to use. The seating is also great for long hauls. I did a 1,600 mile trip in a week and had no problems. The only thing I miss is the handling of my old GS on twisty country roads. But overall, I'm very happy with my ES and would highly recommend it. Although, I must admit, the new GS is pretty impressive too, but it's quite expensive!

I chose the Lexus ES due to its well-known quality, reliability, and value. I am very pleased with its many well-thought-out features. Although I had read that the driving experience may not be very exciting, I was pleasantly surprised by its decent power and handling. However, I have experienced some rattling issues with the car. After taking it to a Lexus dealer, they identified the issue as being with the right front suspension and fixed it under warranty after keeping the car for two nights. Unfortunately, I am now hearing another rattle from the left rear side of the car. After researching online, I found that Lexus models under $40k, including the IS and ES, have had many issues with rattling. This is quite disappointing, but I am hopeful that the issue can be resolved.

I've owned my 2012 ES350 car for a year now and I must say, it's a fantastic vehicle. Although I do wish it had navigation and a rear camera, most everything about the car is satisfactory so far. The seats are comfortable (heated and cooled) and the ride is excellent. I would say the ride is the best feature as it is quiet and smooth. As far as transmission and handling go, I would say it is adequate and could have used some improvement but definitely not a big deal. It would be great to see a heated steering wheel and an all-wheel-drive option for the ES350. I also have HID lighting where the lights turn with the angle of the road and those are great to have. I really don't know how it handles in snow as I don't drive it in the snow but use my wife's Toyota Rav 4 in winter weather. We've owned Toyotas for 12 years now (though I do have a Corvette also) and their reliability has been nothing but fantastic for us. I would love to own a Lexus LS 460 AWD but I'm not sure if that will ever happen. Maybe if I get too old for my Corvette, I can use that for a trade-up. Anyways, Toyota-Lexus make great automobiles as far as my family is concerned and I highly recommend them.

Before you consider purchasing a Lexus, I wanted to share my experience with the interior leather. Unfortunately, I have found it to be quite disappointing for a luxury car. In my personal experience, the perforated inserts have ripped and I have had to replace the seat covers. The cost was quite high at $1700.00 per seat just for the cushions. I was expecting much better quality and durability, especially considering the price point. In comparison, I have found that even KIA has a better interior at a fraction of the cost. Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my 2012 Lexus ES350. Before purchasing it, I did a lot of research and heard nothing but good things about it. I've owned high-end cars for most of my life, so I'm pretty compulsive when it comes to maintaining my vehicles. I don't use car washes and have my cars professionally detailed. I don't even drive on dirt roads! However, despite my efforts, I've noticed that my Lexus has accumulated quite a few scratches. It's a bit frustrating, especially since it has less than 4000 miles on it and looks like a five-year-old car. After doing some research, I found out that there was a class action lawsuit due to paint problems. Have you experienced anything similar with your car?

The ES350 has not met my expectations in terms of fuel efficiency, achieving only 18.9 MPG in flat streets and highways in South Florida, far from the advertised 27 MPG. Additionally, I have found some features to be inconvenient, such as the center armrest being difficult to slide open and the phone and iPod connections being located inside the center console. The side mirrors automatically pointing to the ground in reverse also limit visibility. Furthermore, there is limited space for storage. Despite being a loyal ES350 owner, I am disappointed with the latest model and will not be purchasing another one. The mats are also thinner and do not match the carpet color, and the under dash carpet is incomplete.

During my recent 500 mile road trip, I noticed that the armrest in my Lexus was made of pleather and it irritated my elbow. On the way back from Miami, I had to buy a hand towel to cover the armrest and prevent further discomfort. This was not an issue I had experienced on road trips in my Mercedes or Jaguar.
