Introduced in 1989, the first generation ES 250 was one of two vehicles in Lexus's debut range, along with the LS 400. The second generation ES 300 debuted in 1991, followed by the third generation ES 300 in 1996, and the fourth generation ES 300/330 in 2001. The first- through fourth generation sedans shared body styling elements with Japan-market Toyota sedans, and a domestic market equivalent, the Toyota Windom (Japanese: トヨタ・ウィンダム, Toyota Windamu), was sold until the launch of the fifth generation ES in 2006. The word "Windom" is a combination of "win" and the suffix "dom" expresses a state of perpetual victory. The fifth generation ES used body styling marketed by Lexus as L-finesse and debuted in early 2006 as a 2007 model. The sixth generation ES debuted in the first half of 2012 as a 2013 model, and features increased cabin dimensions due to a longer wheelbase which is shared with the full-size XX40 series Avalon.
Lexus has positioned the ES in the comfort luxury segment, with an emphasis on interior amenities, quietness, and ride quality, in contrast with more firm-riding sport sedans. Buyers seeking more performance-focused models are targeted by the Lexus IS and rival makes, with such models offering a sportier drive with differently tuned suspensions. In Europe, Japan and other markets where it was not available until the seventh generation model, the GS sport sedans occupy the mid-size category in the Lexus lineup until it was cancelled August 2020. In the United States, the ES has been the best-selling Lexus sedan for over fifteen years.

Picked up the new 2021 ES350. It's got lots of bells and whistles and safety gear all over the place. I absolutely love the brake hold and it's got lots of zip too. The car is everything we expected!

This car is an excellent value when bought right. Dealers are flexible in discounting the price of these cars and Lexus even offers a generous $2,000 rebate. Compared to European luxury cars, the Lexus provides a smoother ride and iron-clad, trouble-free reliability. We have been very pleased with our new car after one month and 450 miles. However, there are two shortcomings that we are unhappy with. Firstly, the Apple Car Play requires a cable in the middle of the front cabin, which is not wireless like BMW or even Buick. Secondly, the ventilation of the ventilated front seats is weak and tepid. The air used to ventilate the seats is not actually cooled. Despite these issues, the seat heaters are fine and there is no road noise. The upholstery is beautiful and the standard sound system is more than adequate. Although the Lexus cargo net is small and overpriced, an extra bonus is that regular gas will do the trick for most drivers. After six months of ownership, we are still very pleased with the car and consider it an excellent value. We predict that this car will perform flawlessly over the long haul and provide reliability and safety in a market of radical change and price escalation.Sadly, I expect it and the other few remaining 6 cylinder ICE sedans like it, to vanish forever from the market over the next few years.

I switched from a Mercedes C300 to the ES350. It has a quiet ride, great pick up, smoother ride, better sound system and more bells and whistles for less money.

I recently had my 2012 Lexus LS 460 in for repairs and was given a 2020 ES350 as a loaner. While it's not a bad car, I don't think I would purchase a new one as it feels like a more nicely appointed Toyota Camry/Avalon. Compared to my Lexus LS 460, I noticed a few differences: 1) The switches and buttons felt lighter and of lower quality. 2) The doors rattled a bit when closed hard. 3) The driver's seat was flat, narrow, and hard, with a short bottom cushion and disappointing two-way adjustable lumbar support. I wouldn't want to take this car on long trips. 4) The base stereo was atrocious, which is inexcusable in a car of this price range. 5) Backseat space was surprisingly close to my short wheel-base LS. As for the drive, apart from the seats themselves, it was smooth but unremarkable. This car definitely corners better than my LS, and the V6 engine is peppy but coarse, with an unrefined transmission. It's quiet and the suspension is well-dampened until you hit an expansion joint or something similar with the eco run-flats. The steering is tighter than in my LS but not particularly linear. I found the front wheels jerking a bit more than I expected when turning moderately hard. However, I do like the size of the steering wheel (smaller) here better than the LS. Overall, I'm glad I got this as a loaner, but I wouldn't consider buying a used one without the Ultra Luxury package and the Mark Levinson stereo upgrades.

You are purchasing a Lexus. While the quality may not be up to your expectations, it is important to note that the outside door skin may vibrate when closing the door. This could be due to a missing brace inside the door. I purchased my Lexus with 150 miles on it, and it was supposed to be trucked to me. Unfortunately, I have not received any communication from the dealer or Lexus since the day of purchase, which is disappointing. Overall, the customer care has been extremely poor.

The stereo in this car is not the best. It could definitely use some improvement. It's disappointing that Lexus did not put more effort into the sound system.
