The second generation ES 300 debuted in 1991, followed by the third generation ES 300 in 1996, and the fourth generation ES 300/330 in 2001. The first- through fourth generation sedans shared body styling elements with Japan-market Toyota sedans, and a domestic market equivalent, the Toyota Windom (Japanese: トヨタ・ウィンダム, Toyota Windamu), was sold until the launch of the fifth generation ES in 2006. The word "Windom" is a combination of "win" and the suffix "dom" expresses a state of perpetual victory. The fifth generation ES used body styling marketed by Lexus as L-finesse and debuted in early 2006 as a 2007 model. The sixth generation ES debuted in the first half of 2012 as a 2013 model, and features increased cabin dimensions due to a longer wheelbase which is shared with the full-size XX40 series Avalon.

Lexus has positioned the ES in the comfort luxury segment, with an emphasis on interior amenities, quietness, and ride quality, in contrast with more firm-riding sport sedans. Buyers seeking more performance-focused models are targeted by the Lexus IS and rival makes, with such models offering a sportier drive with differently tuned suspensions. In Europe, Japan and other markets where it was not available until the seventh generation model, the GS sport sedans occupy the mid-size category in the Lexus lineup until it was cancelled August 2020. I was just made aware that there was a Lexus Customer Support Program ZLZ to replace this defective dashboard but I never received a recall notice. I have asked Lexus corporate and the dealership to help me resolve this dangerous defect but they said the program has expired and is no longer willing to help. I am a senior citizen and cannot afford to pay for this out of pocket or buy a new car. This defect is a widely known issue and Lexus has acknowledged that this is causing a dangerous condition while driving. I cannot understand why they would not resolve this matter regardless the program expired or not especially if owners did not received the notice. Please help. Lexus is unwilling to resolve this matter even though they know this defect is causing dangerous driving conditions which may lead to accidents.

I DO NOT THINK THAT I SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY PORTION OF THE COST ASSOCIATED WITH THE PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE TRANSMISSION. ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE IS 10 MODEL YEARS OLD IT HAS BEEN CAREFULLY DRIVEN LESS THAN 60,000 MILES. MOST OF THE MILES ARE HIGHWAY MILES AS THIS IS OUR SECOND CAR AND IS USED PRIMARILY FOR DRIVING TRIPS. A COMPREHENSIVE SET OF DIAGNOSTIC TESTS WERE PERFORMED AT DEALERSHIP DURING ONE OF THESE INSPECTIONS WHEN CAR FAILED TO START IN THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHILE TECHNICIAN WAS BEING OVERSEEN BY A DIAGNOSTIC EXPERT FROM THE DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEM, AND SHOULD CALL AGAIN IF IT SHOULD REOCCUR. THEY SAID THERE WAS NO RECORD OF THIS HAPPENING BEFORE SO THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE THEY COULD DO. DO YOU HAVE RECORD OF THIS HAPPENING WITH EITHER OTHER LEXUS OR ANY VEHICLES SIMILARLY EQUIPPED, AND IF SO ARE THERE ANY REPAIR STEPS THAT CAN BE UNDERTAKEN? MY WIFE AND I ARE VERY NERVOUS ABOUT TRYING TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, BECAUSE WE NEVER KNOW IF WE WILL BE STRANDED SOMEWHERE AND UNABLE TO GET TO HOME OR SAFETY. THIS HAS HAPPENED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN OUR GARAGE OR AT A SHOPPING AREA, AND IT WAS NOT IDLING OR RUNNING, BUT IN. THE "OFF" MODE. THESE EVENTS OCCURRED 4/3/2018, 4/4/2018, 10/25/2018 THRU 11/1/2018 THE VEHICLE WAS NOT BEING DRIVEN BETWEEN 5/11/2018 AND 10/13/2018 BECAUSE MY WIFE AND MYSELF WERE LIVING IN ANOTHER LOCATION, AND SAID VEHICLE WAS HOUSED IN A LOCKED GARAGE WITH A BATTERY CHARGER ATTACHED (TRICKLE CHARGER), THAT WAS PURCHASED FROM AN AUTHORIZED LEXUS DEALER. These vehicles had their driver or passenger frontal air bag inflators previously replaced under a prior recall using inflators of the same design.   • Consequence: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
  • Remedy: Toyota will notify owners. Depending on the vehicle model, dealers will replace the front driver inflator, front passenger airbag inflator, the airbag assembly, or the front passenger airbag sub-assembly and inflator.     Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my Lexus. Unfortunately, I had an issue with my brakes not working properly. I was only going 10 mph and tried to brake at a light, but my car ended up hitting the car in front of me. Even though I was careful, the brakes just didn't connect. When I contacted Lexus, they said it wasn't their fault. Has anyone else had a similar problem? Just a friendly reminder to be careful out there!

    Congratulations on your third Lexus! It's great to hear that you are enjoying your ES350, especially considering the cost difference from the GS350. While some of the interior appointments may not be as luxurious as the GS, the overall interior is still very good. The car's quietness and excellent ride and handling make it perfect for your needs. It's understandable that the electronics may be overwhelming at first, but it's great to hear that you feel comfortable with the controls after a week. The ES definitely exudes refinement and is a great value in the Lexus line. The optional body side moldings are a nice touch as well.

    I recently traded in my 09 Highlander Hybrid due to poor mpg, a hard ride, poor driver interior space, and the trans 'braking' function being useless when driving in the mountains and needing lower gearing for downhill. The cold weather, elevation, and 10% ethanol gas lowered the Highlander Hybrid mpg to 19 mpg city and low 20's highway. I looked at several other options such as the Venza, Camry, Crosstour, C300, and E350, but nothing could beat the overall driving experience and quality for the price of the ES350. I was particularly impressed with the Lexus customer sales service during the purchase of the ES350, which was better than anyone else's! I'm now getting an impressive 29 mpg on the interstate at 75-80 mph and 23+ mpg driving in the city, which beats the Highlander Hybrid mpg! I also noticed that the Highlander Hybrid Limited interior appears cheap compared to the ES350 interior.

    In 10 years, I haven't had any issues with this car. It still drives just as well as the day I bought it. Although the transmission fluid hasn't been changed because it's a sealed unit, it's recommended that you have it done by a mechanic or the dealer. I haven't had any issues with it myself.
