The Lexus ES (Japanese: レクサス・ES, Hepburn: Rekusasu ES) is a series of mid-size executive cars marketed since 1989 by Lexus, the luxury division of Toyota, across multiple generations, each offering V6 engines and a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout. The first five generations of the ES used the Toyota Camry platform, while the latter generations are more closely related to both the Camry and the Avalon. Manual transmissions were offered until 1993, a lower-displacement inline-four engine became an option in Asian markets in 2010, and a gasoline-electric hybrid version was introduced in 2012. The ES was Lexus's only front-wheel drive vehicle until 1998, when the related RX was introduced, and the sedan occupied the entry-level luxury car segment of the Lexus lineup in North America and other regions until the debut of the IS in 1999. The ES name stands for "Executive Sedan". However, some Lexus importers use the name, "Elegant Sedan".

Introduced in 1989, the first generation ES 250 was one of two vehicles in Lexus's debut range, along with the LS 400. The second generation ES 300 debuted in 1991, followed by the third generation ES 300 in 1996, and the fourth generation ES 300/330 in 2001. The first- through fourth generation sedans shared body styling elements with Japan-market Toyota sedans, and a domestic market equivalent, the Toyota Windom (Japanese: トヨタ・ウィンダム, Toyota Windamu), was sold until the launch of the fifth generation ES in 2006. The word "Windom" is a combination of "win" and the suffix "dom" expresses a state of perpetual victory. The fifth generation ES used body styling marketed by Lexus as L-finesse and debuted in early 2006 as a 2007 model. The sixth generation ES debuted in the first half of 2012 as a 2013 model, and features increased cabin dimensions due to a longer wheelbase which is shared with the full-size XX40 series Avalon.

Lexus has positioned the ES in the comfort luxury segment, with an emphasis on interior amenities, quietness, and ride quality, in contrast with more firm-riding sport sedans. Buyers seeking more performance-focused models are targeted by the Lexus IS and rival makes, with such models offering a sportier drive with differently tuned suspensions. In Europe, Japan and other markets where it was not available until the seventh generation model, the GS sport sedans occupy the mid-size category in the Lexus lineup until it was cancelled August 2020. In the United States, the ES has been the best-selling Lexus sedan for over fifteen years.

Common 2018 Lexus Es350 problems

Based on complaints from owners of the 2018 Lexus ES 350, several common problems have been reported:

  1. Power Windows Issues: Owners have experienced issues with the power windows, particularly around 60,000 miles. The window regulators and motors tend to wear out quickly compared to other cars. Replacing the regulator costs around $300, while a new motor is roughly $250.
  2. Excessive Oil Consumption: Some owners have reported excessive oil consumption within the first 10,000 miles. While Toyota and Lexus engines are known to consume more oil as a way of protecting moving components, it is recommended to check the oil regularly and top it off as needed.
  3. Windshield Wiper Motor Failures: Owners have reported windshield wiper motor failures around 70,000 miles. The only solution is to replace the entire windshield wiper motor setup, costing around $600, depending on local labor rates.
  4. Recalls for Fuel Pump: There are two recalls on the 2018 Lexus ES for the fuel pump, which may fail. Lexus offers to replace the fuel pump in affected models for free.

These problems, although reported by some owners, are relatively minor compared to other luxury cars on the market. It's important for Lexus ES 350 owners to be aware of these issues and address them promptly to ensure the longevity and performance of their vehicles.

  • Summary: I WAS AT A STOPLIGHT AND THERE WERE A COUPLE VEHICLES IN FRONT OF ME. THE LIGHT WAS RED. I WAS A CAR LENGTH AND A HALF AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF ME. AS SOON AS THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I SAW THE VEHICLES IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF ME PROCEED TO MOVE FORWARD, AND THE DRIVER IN FRONT OF ME TOOK HIS FOOT OFF OF HIS BRAKES, SO I THOUGHT HE WAS MOVING FORWARD AS WELL. SO THEN I DECIDED TO ACCELERATE TO ABOUT 5-10 MPH. BY THE TIME I REALIZED THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME WASN'T MOVING FORWARD, MY CAR HIT HIS TRAIL-HITCH" (NOT HIS BACK BUMPER) AND THE FRONT OF MY CAR WAS DAMAGED, BUT I COULD DRIVE IT FROM THE SCENE OF THE ACCIDENT. THE BRAKE ASSIST OF MY 2018 LEXUS ES350 DID NOT ENGAGE. I THINK THE BRAKE ASSIST FUNCTION ON MY VEHICLE WAS FAULTY AND IT SHOULD'VE BEEN RECALLED AND FIXED, AS IT WOULD'VE STOPPED ME FROM GETTING INTO A CAR ACCIDENT IN THE FIRST PLACE HAD IT ENGAGED AND WORKED PROPERLY.

Negative 2018 Lexus Es350 car reviews

  1. Brendan Green 2025-01-05

I was really looking forward to getting this car, but unfortunately, it didn't meet my expectations. While the ride was luxurious and comfortable, and the car handled well on the road, I found the front interior to be clumsy and lacking in storage space. Additionally, the cumbersome knob used for navigation and the small recessed screen felt outdated and detracted from the overall experience. Ultimately, I decided to return the car. Instead, I invested in a brand new 2021 Hyundai Sonata limited edition, which was more expensive but much more satisfying, with all the latest technology.

  2. Deven Crist 2024-11-06

When we were shopping for a car, we let our emotions guide us and ended up wanting a luxury vehicle with all-wheel drive, panoramic roof, power trunk lid, and a radar detector outlet near the windshield. Unfortunately, we felt trapped into buying what Bob Rohrman had at Arlington Lexus, even though it didn't fully meet our needs. We've noticed some deficiencies, such as a rough ride that feels like there are no shock absorbers. We've reached out to them about replacing the shocks, but haven't had any luck yet. Despite this, we're willing to pay for the repairs and hope to resolve the issue soon.

  3. Rodrigo Quitzon 2024-10-24

I would recommend test driving several other cars before making a decision, and not just basing it on looks. Personally, I wish I had chosen a different car for the price I paid.

  4. Elton Kulas 2024-04-14

As a loyal Cadillac owner, I recently decided to try a Lexus. I was pleasantly surprised by the friendly, helpful, and honest service I received from the Lexus dealer. I ended up purchasing a fully loaded 2018 ES350, but have found the technology to be overwhelming. Although I was given a brief overview of the car at the dealership, it didn't help much. I've tried reading the manuals, but still haven't become familiar with the car. While the Lexus has good reliability ratings, it's important to note that the technology can be difficult and not very logical. It's designed for those who have a smartphone, which I don't have nor wish to have. For example, remote start is only available with a cell phone, which is inconvenient. Despite these challenges, I'm still hopeful that I'll enjoy my Lexus and appreciate the friendly service I received from the dealer. However, I do miss my Cadillac and may return to it in the future.

Positive 2018 Lexus Es350 car reviews

  1. Lane Mohr 2024-11-29

This is my dream car and I absolutely love it! It's so comfortable and luxurious, and it's much quieter on the road than other cars I've driven. The engine is also incredibly powerful. The only thing I'm not a huge fan of is the navigation system, Scout. I personally prefer using Waze or Google Maps, but overall I'm still thrilled with my car!

  2. Justyn Runte 2024-11-18

Seats are not as plush as my 2009 Lexus’s, but otherwise it’s excellent after 100,000 miles.

  3. Anastacio Schoen 2024-11-17

Hi there! That's a wonderful car you have!

  4. Winston Hickle 2024-10-25

Congratulations on your purchase! Your 2017 ES 350 sounds like a great value for the money. It's wonderful to hear that you've had zero issues with it so far and that you've put so many miles on it in just one year. The 3.5 liter V6 engine sounds like it provides a comfortable ride with great acceleration. It's impressive that you've owned several luxury cars in the past, but have found the Lexus to be a better fit for you due to its lower maintenance costs. It's reassuring to know that the warranty repairs are so infrequent and that the service manager was able to help you with the memory seat. It's clear that you have a lot of confidence in your Lexus and plan on driving it for many years to come. Best of luck with your car!

  5. Oren Konopelski 2024-10-24

No dislike. This vehicle is very dependable and I have never had any issues. I highly recommend owning this model of vehicle.
