Common 2000 Infiniti I30 problems
The INFINITI I30, produced in the early 2000s, is known for several common problems reported by its owners. Three major issues are the Mass Air Flow Sensor failure, Check Engine Light due to a failed EVAP control valve, and Ignition Coil failure due to a clogged EGR valve.
- Mass Air Flow Sensor Failure: The Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor measures the amount of air entering the engine, which helps determine the correct fuel-air mixture. When the MAF sensor fails, it can cause a variety of issues, including rough idling, poor acceleration, and a decrease in fuel efficiency. The MAF sensor can be affected by contamination from dirt, moisture, or oil. Regular maintenance and cleaning of the sensor can help prevent these issues.
- Check Engine Light Due to Failed EVAP Control Valve: The EVAP (Evaporative Emission Control) system is designed to capture and store fuel vapors from the fuel tank, preventing them from being released into the atmosphere. The EVAP control valve, also known as the purge valve, regulates the flow of fuel vapors into the engine. When the EVAP control valve fails, it can cause the check engine light to illuminate, indicating a problem with the emissions system. This issue can lead to decreased fuel efficiency and increased emissions.
- Ignition Coil Failure Due to Clogged EGR Valve: The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve is designed to reduce emissions by recirculating a portion of the exhaust gases back into the engine. When the EGR valve becomes clogged, it can cause a variety of issues, including ignition coil failure. The ignition coil is responsible for generating the high voltage needed to ignite the air-fuel mixture in the engine. When the EGR valve is clogged, it can cause the ignition coil to work harder, leading to premature failure. Regular maintenance and cleaning of the EGR valve can help prevent these issues.
In addition to these problems, the INFINITI I30 has been reported to have issues with the ambient temperature sensor, which can cause the car to stall when shifting into reverse or drive in cold weather. This issue can be caused by a damaged harness to the ambient temperature sensor, which can cause incorrect signal readings.
When it comes to purchasing a 2000 INFINITI I30, potential buyers should be aware of the car's potential issues, but also consider the car's positive aspects. Many owners have reported that the car is reliable, fun to drive, and has a comfortable interior. Regular maintenance and repairs can help prevent many of the common issues associated with the INFINITI I30.

STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-01-02
- VIN: JNKCA31A1YT
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: WHILE WORKING UNDER MY CAR, I NOTICED THAT THE SUPPORT STRUCTURE UNDER THE RADIATOR IS RUSTING BADLY AND CAN BE MOVED BY HAND. THIS IS NOT SAFE AND APPEARS TO BE A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I CAME ACROSS SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME MODEL OF NISSAN INFINITI. I FEEL THAT SINCE THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE, THE COMPANY SHOULD WARN OWNERS AND RECALL THE VEHICLES FOR REPAIR AT NO COST TO THE OWNERS. THIS IS PREMATURE RUSTING AND APPEARS TO BE VITAL TO THE ENGINE STABILITY AS WELL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT IN MOTION BUT I THINK THAT IS WHAT I HEAR RATTLING WHEN ENCOUNTERING BUMPS.
STEERING,SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2016-06-25
- VIN: JNKTA31AXYT
- Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION
- Summary: DRIVE TO GAS STATION A MILE AWAY WAS A DANGEROUS EXPERIENCE, THE ISSUE I THOUGHT WAS A TIRE BLOWN OUT HAS BEEN INSPECTED BY LOCAL POLICE OFFICER UPON OCCURRENCE AND DETERMINED IT IS SUSPENSION DEFECT. RIGHT REAR AXLE IS WHERE THE LOUD GRINDING STARTED
STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-08-25
- VIN: JNKCA31A0YT
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: I TOOK MY CAR TO THE MECHANIC FOR A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE HOOD. THE MECHANIC LATER FOUND OUT THAT THE NOISE WAS COMING FROM BELTS BECAUSE THE SUPPORT BAR THAT HOLD THE ENGINE WAS SAGGING. THIS IS CALLED THE CROSS MEMBER. I LEARNED THAT THE CROSS MEMBER HAD RUSTED PREMATURELY. I HAVE ALSO LEARNED THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH EVERY I30 MODEL. INFINITI NEEDS TO HAVE THESE SUPPORT BARS REPLACED BEFORE IT CAUSES AN ACCIDENT. PS. CROSS MEMBERS ARE SUPPOSED TO LAST THE LIFETIME OF A CAR BEING THAT THIS IS WHAT HOLDS THE ENGINE IN PLACE, NOT RUST PREMATURELY.
STEERING,AIR BAGS,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2013-09-16
- Crash: 1
- VIN: JNKCA31A9YT
- Components: STEERING,AIR BAGS,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: THE PASSENGER FRONT TIRE BLEW, THE CAR THEN LOCKED UP, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP, THE CAR SPED OUT OF CONTROL (POLICE ESTIMATED UP TO 70 MILES PER HOUR), THE CAR RAN INTO A BRICK BUILDING. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY! I WOKE UP SURROUNDED BY A CROWD OF PEOPLE. ALTHOUGH, I PRESSED THE BRAKES TO THE FLOOR, AND THERE WERE BLACK MARKS ON THE PARKING LOT LEADING UP TO THE CAR INSIDE THE BRICK BUILDING, THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE, OUT OF CONTROL.
STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2013-04-08
- VIN: JNKCA31A3YT
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: 2000 INFINITI I30 WITH APPROX. 100K MILES. THE VEHICLE IS USED AS A SPARE AND IS GARAGE KEPT. WENT TO GET AN OIL/FILTER CHANGE AND FOUND THE FRAME UNDER THE RADIATOR IS COMPLETELY RUSTED AND IS ACTUALLY SAGGING. IT LOOKS LIKE THIS PART OF THE FRAME SUPPORTS THE ENGINE MOUNT THAT'S LOCATED NEAR THE RADIATOR ALSO. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THIS IS VERY UNSAFE. THE REST OF THE VEHICLE IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION CONSIDERING THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE. I GOT AN ESTIMATE OF APPROX. $1,000 TO REPLACE THE RUSTED PART OF THE FRAME. SEARCHING ONLINE, IT APPEARS THE VEHICLES BUILT ON THIS CHASSIS HAVE SIMILAR RUSTING FRAME ISSUES. *TR
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2009-04-08
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,STRUCTURE
- Summary: I HAVE A WELL MAINTAINED 2000 INFINITI I30 WITH 168,000 MILES . THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. APPROXIMATELY 2009 THE LOWER RADIATOR SUPPORT (FRONT CROSS FRAME TIE BAR) STARTED TO RUST NEAR THE CENTER OF THIS BOXED FRAME MEMBER. PORTIONS OF THE TOP AND FRONT SIDE OF THIS FRAME MEMBER RUSTED THROUGH COMPLETELY SOME TIME IN 2011. THE HOOD LATCH MECHANISM AND HORN ARE FASTENED TO A VERTICAL STEEL SUPPORT THAT IS BOLTED TO THE FRONT OF THIS FRAME MEMBER, JUST LEFT OF THE RUST PERFORATION. I INTEND TO DRIVE THIS CAR FOR MANY MORE YEARS AS WE HAVE IN THE PAST WITH SEVERAL OTHER CARS IF THIS DOES NOT BECOME A SAFETY PROBLEM, . I WILL NEED TO HAVE THE FRONT FRAME TIE BAR REPAIRED IF POSSIBLE TO AVOID FUTURE HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS (IE. HOOD POPPING OPEN WHILE DRIVING AND/OR UNSTABLE FRONT END CONTROL). THIS RUST PERFORATION MORE THAN LIKELY LESSENS THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF THE CAR IN A FRONT END COLLISION. THIS APPEARS TO BE A WIDELY KNOWN SAFETY PROBLEM ON VARIOUS NISSAN AUTOS. EVEN IF NISSAN IS NOT REQUIRED TO RECALL THESE AUTOS FOR INSPECTION AND REPAIR, THEY SHOULD AT LEAST NOTIFY OWNERS OF THE POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUES AND POSSIBLE MECHANICAL FIXES THAT SHOULD BE CONSIDERED BY THE OWNER. *TR
EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2012-10-06
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING

TIRES PROBLEM

- VIN: JNKCA31A4YT

- Summary: DEAR NHTSA: I BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS TIRE : BRIDGESTONE RE 92 225/50VR17. THESE TIRES ARE ORIGINAL TIRES FROM MY VEHICLE: 2000 INFINITI I30I HERE IS MY COMPLIANT: ABOUT 1 YEAR AGO I DISCOVERED BY ACCIDENT THAT ONE OF MY TIRE HAD A TIRE TREAD SEPARATION. BRIDGESTONE WAS AT THE TIME KIND ENOUGH TO REPLACE THAT TIRE FOR FREE. HOWEVER, NOW I FIND OUT THE OTHER 3 TIRES ARE DOING THE SAME THING. I TRIED CALLING THE FIRESTONE/BRIDGESTONE CORPORATION, BUT MANAGER (NAME ROGER FROM PORTLAND. OR) SAID THESE TIRES ARE OUT OF WARRANTY AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO FOR ME. I THINK THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THESE TIRES. THESE TIRES WERE NEVER ABUSED IN ANYWAY. THE CAR IS ALWAYS PARK IN THE GARAGE WHEN POSSIBLE. NO ALIGNMENT PROBLEM WITH THE CAR. YES, I KNOW THESE TIRES ARE OUT OF WARRANTY AFTER 5 YEARS, BUT THESE TIRES SHOULDN'T SEPARATE WHEN THERE ARE SUFFICIENT AMOUNT OF TREAD LEFT. IN ADDITION, THESE TIRES ARE CONSIDERED HIGH PERFORMANCE TIRES COSTING ABOUT $175 PER TIRE. PLEASE FIND OUT IF OTHER VEHICLES WITH THESE TIRES HAD A BLOWOUT. THANK YOU. SINCERELY, MICHAEL *TR

Negative 2000 Infiniti I30 car reviews
Positive 2000 Infiniti I30 car reviews

Great car! It's amazing that you've managed to put over 250,000 miles on it. You've only had to replace the catalytic converter at about 240,000 miles, which is a testament to how reliable it is. What a great buy!
-
I recently upgraded to an Infiniti I30 from my 1995 Mercedes Benz C220, and I am blown away by the difference between the two cars. The I30 is not only spacious and well-built, but also incredibly agile and fast. What's more, it comes with more standard features than any other luxury brand I've seen, and its 200-Watt Bose 7 Speaker sound system (including woofer) combined with the best V6 in the world make it clear that my previous experience with luxury cars falls short of the I30. Despite its lower price compared to most of its competitors, the I30 outperforms nearly all of them in every respect!
-
That's fantastic!
-
I leased an Infiniti FX 35; however, I returned it and wanted to stay with the Infiniti brand. I purchased the I30t with 65,500 miles and it feels like it's not even broken in yet. I am the second owner and could tell that the vehicle was garage kept and hardly driven. The vehicle does sit low (but I did go from an SUV to a car). If you're thinking about buying one, I highly recommend it!

After 6 months of research, I bought a 2000 I30 with 56,000 on it. I got it for a great price, and even though I later found out it needed a new transmission (which Infiniti is kindly replacing for me), I'm still really happy with my purchase. It has so many great features, is super quiet on the freeway, and gets decent mileage. Plus, everyone who sees it compliments how classy it looks. I especially love the clock in the dash. Take a good look for yourself!

I purchased the I30t with 47K miles 2 1/2 years ago and was very pleased with it until about a year ago (100K). Since then, it has cost me about $3K, with the latest expense being the ignition coils ($1K). Additionally, it has developed rattles and a strange metallic clunking in the right rear on uneven pavement (which the dealer has been unable to locate). Although I still appreciate the ride and power, I am beginning to question whether I would be better off with something that gets better gas mileage and uses 87 octane, especially considering the $3000 a year in maintenance and the squeaks, rattles, and clunks.
