The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, also known as the Range Rover Evoque, is a subcompact luxury crossover SUV developed and produced by Jaguar Land Rover under their Land Rover marque. The original Evoque was a development of the Land Rover LRX concept vehicle, which was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in January 2008. The first generation Evoque was produced from July 2011 until 2018 in three and five-door versions, with both two-wheel and four-wheel drive. The second generation of the car went into production in 2018.

First generation (L538; 2011)

Development

The size of the LRX concept vehicle complemented a wide array of efficiency-improving technologies in the form of Land Rover's e_Terrain technologies. These included biofuel compatibility, lightweight construction materials, and technologies such as the removable carbon composite roof panels, regenerative brakes, a stop-start system, along with the ERAD (electric rear axle drive) parallel hybrid powertrain system.

ERAD system

The ERAD system could propel the LRX to speeds up to 20 mph (32 km/h) before the engine was started by an integrated starter generator as part of the stop-start system. ERAD was designed to reduce CO2 emissions by an average of 20% under the NEDC test cycle and was expected to offer another 10% reduction in extra-urban driving situations while also optimizing the off-road ability of the vehicle. Land Rover aimed to achieve 120 g/km CO2 emissions and fuel economy of 60 mpg‑imp (4.7 L/100 km; 50 mpg‑US) on the European combined cycle with an efficient 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine based on PSA DW12. The engine would become the only four-cylinder vehicle in the Range Rover lineup.

Common 2023 Land rover Range rover evoque problems

The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, while a popular and fashionable SUV, is not immune to common problems and faults. Here are some of the most frequently reported issues and their solutions:

  • Brake corrosion: A common problem in the Range Rover Evoque is brake corrosion, which can cause a squealing noise when applying the brakes, especially after driving in the rain. This issue is caused by moisture buildup. A thorough brake service by a trained professional can solve the problem. If the rusting is too severe, new brakes may be required.
  • Powertrain issues: Engine and gearbox problems are common in the Evoque. The powertrain can heat up, leading to increased fuel consumption or engine overloading. To solve this issue, consider installing a larger radiator or checking for leaks in the cooling system. For transmission issues, using high-intensity transmission fluid that reduces friction can help. If these solutions do not work, consult the dealership for further assistance.
  • Differential problems: Range Rovers are known for their off-road capabilities, but the differential unit can sometimes suffer from issues. Some owners have reported replacing the rear differential with less than 40,000 miles of use. Differential whine, caused by oil starvation, can lead to gear grinding, shedding teeth, or seizing. Draining the fluid can give an indication of the condition. A glittery appearance usually means contaminated oil, and a replacement unit is not cheap.
  • Major engine issues: The Range Rover Evoque's powerful engine can suffer from various problems, including overheating, catastrophic failures in diesel units, and manifold woes in gasoline units. These issues are not typically wallet-friendly to fix, and repairs can be costly.
  • Braking system issues: Parking brake faults, such as screeching, locking up, or failing to release, have been reported in some Range Rovers. These problems can lead to more costly repairs and pose risks to the safety of the driver and passengers. Likely culprits for handbrake failure include worn handbrake shoes or actuators. ABS and Traction Control modules have also played up, often indicated by warning symbols or alerts on the dashboard display.
  • Electrical gremlins: Throughout its lifespan, the Range Rover Evoque has experienced electrical issues, ranging from simple switch failures to full-on vehicle shutdowns. Jaguar Land Rover issued a major recall on some vehicles built between 2019 and 2021 due to electrical functionality loss.

These common problems do not necessarily reflect the overall reliability of the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, but understanding these issues can help owners and potential buyers make informed decisions about maintenance and repairs.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-07-29
  • VIN: SALZT2FX6PH
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: . I leased the vehicle from the Suburban of Troy (Jaguar Troy-Land Rover Troy) at 1815 Maplelawn Troy, MI 48084 through Ally Financial on 6/30/22. On 7/29/22 and 8/15/22, I brought the vehicle into the Suburban Collection’s Service Center. I stated that when I remote started the vehicle from the app, I would start driving and a “Gearbox Fault” message would turn on for a day or so and would shut off. I provided the Service Advisor with my login credentials to troubleshoot the concern with my vehicle. Unfortunately, no resolution was made with regards to my vehicle and it was returned to me. This continued to occur. On 1/9/23 (with just over 6,500 miles), I again brought my vehicle into the service center. I started my vehicle using the mobile app while the auto start/stop function was enabled and drove the vehicle for a number of miles and upon entering a roundabout, the vehicle shifted itself into neutral during rush hour traffic. I could not switch out of neutral and had to restart the vehicle in the middle of rush hour and I could have been rear ended. This situation was horrifying. I reached out to four individuals via JLR corporate emails on 3/7/23, as I had not received any information from my service advisor regarding my vehicle. During that time, I was driving a loaner vehicle that did not have the same features and I was unable to start the vehicle remotely during that time. I received correspondence from an Executive Liaison, Jean Meyer on 3/8/23 after receiving my vehicle the day prior. It had been in the dealership’s possession at that time for 66 days and in total, my vehicle had been in their possession for 78 days. During that time, I was informed that the Service Advisor that I had worked with was eliminated because of his handling of my case. I was told that the Shop Foreman was working on my vehicle and that it had been escalated to an engineer that manufactures the transmission, but no one was able to find a resolution for my car switching into n

Negative 2023 Land rover Range rover evoque car reviews

I recently purchased a 2020 plate Land Rover Dynamic S, but unfortunately, I have been experiencing ongoing issues with my car such as lack of power, loud engine noise, and dashboard malfunctions. Despite my disappointment with the level of service from LR, they have been claiming that there isn't a problem with my car. My car has also had issues with sticking in gear and the engine not starting for 40 minutes, which was a frustrating experience. This is my third car from Land Rover, and unfortunately, all of them have had technical issues that never seem to end. I have had to take my car in for repairs around 10 times or more since 2020. Although I won't be purchasing any more cars from LR, I must say that the satnav is a bit confusing and has sent me in circles twice. The car's issues have been affecting my daily life, and it needs to go back to the dealership again. Despite my frustration, I hope that LR can address the problems that customers are having and be honest. These are expensive cars that customers are purchasing from the main dealerships, and they deserve to have a reliable and high-performing vehicle.

  2. Milan Langosh 2024-11-17

I have experienced the same issues and problems that other reviewers have mentioned. My car has been in the dealer for service fees multiple times, and in the first year alone, it was at the dealer for over a total of 6 weeks. When I had finally had enough, I called Land Rover National HQ to complain. They assured me that they would open a formal case file and get back to me quickly with an offer of resolution. However, I never received a call back, and despite my attempts to contact them over several weeks, I did not receive any return calls. Paying for a car that is unsafe and unreliable and that you can't drive is frustrating. As a result, I have decided to never purchase another Range Rover.

  3. Gardner O'Keefe 2024-11-14

I was initially drawn to the beauty of this car and the captivating advertisements showcasing Land Rovers conquering mountainsides and streams. Unfortunately, after only 30K miles, the car required a total front electrical harness replacement. From the beginning, there were issues with the heating & a/c, temperature controls, and even the windshield seal. Despite spending four months in the shop, balance and tire pressure issues persist. I wish I had known about the reliability concerns with Evoques before making my purchase. If you're interested in learning more, I recommend speaking with a maintenance department supervisor at a Land Rover Dealership. While I will always admire Land Rovers, I will not be purchasing one again!!

  4. Willis Osinski 2024-10-11

The 2020 Evoque is a great riding car, but the brakes can be quite touchy. When coming to a stop, the automatic transmission downshifts abruptly, which can be a bit jarring. I recently had an issue with this and brought it to the service center. They explained that this is a normal occurrence, but I must admit, it's not my favorite feature. This experience has made me reconsider purchasing another Evoque in the future.

  5. Bruce Kautzer 2024-09-23

During our 10-day vacation in Florida, we decided to rent a car. As owners of a 2019 X3, we were looking for something upscale and different. We settled on the LR, which I had never driven before, and decided to give it a try. The car had some great features, including a quick response from the 2.0L turbo engine and easy maneuverability for city driving. However, we did experience some cons, such as a suspension rattle in the rear that sounded like something was falling off. Additionally, when braking from speeds above 30-35 mph, the transmission struggled to stay in gear and made a loud bang when coming to a stop, which was a bit scary. The trunk space was also quite limited, only fitting two 22” CareOne’s and a backpack, and the rear window was very small. Overall, we were a bit surprised that a car with less than 20K miles was in this kind of shape. In the past, we have rented non-upscale SUVs like the Tahoe, Murano, Edge, and even the Dodge Journey, which were all better vehicles than this Land Rover.

Positive 2023 Land rover Range rover evoque car reviews

  1. Makenna Dicki 2025-01-01

My wife absolutely loves this car! We had been searching for a small SUV that still had an upscale feel and all the features, and the Evoque exceeded our expectations. In terms of design, panache, and overall package, it is hands down better than the Audi Q3/5 or the BMW X3/5. It's a great driving car and very easy to maneuver in tight spots around town.

  2. Garrick Green 2024-08-13

Drives smooth, with no blindspots. I love the look, color, and the way it handles. I am very pleased with my purchase.

  3. Mckenzie Reynolds 2024-07-16

Rides great, and it's packed with technology to enhance your driving experience. Plus, you'll love the comfortable ride!

  4. Dorcas Powlowski 2024-03-16

I'm so glad to hear that you love your Evoque! RR truly makes some of the best 4x4s out there, and it's great to see that you're enjoying yours. While it's true that the Evoque is an excellent choice for off-roading and snow drifting, it's also a fantastic option for everyday driving. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us!

  5. Lawrence Satterfield 2024-02-24

It's understandable to be hesitant about purchasing a car with negative reviews, but I can assure you that my 3-year-old Evoque is still in excellent condition. The D180 engine provides a satisfying level of speed and fuel efficiency, and I've never experienced any issues with gear shifts. The seats are comfortable and the sound system is top-notch. Additionally, the head-up display and infotainment system are both responsive and user-friendly. The lane keep feature is also a great addition for added safety. Overall, I highly recommend the Evoque for anyone in the market for a reliable and enjoyable car.
