The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, also known as the Range Rover Evoque, is a subcompact luxury crossover SUV developed and produced by Jaguar Land Rover under their Land Rover marque. The original Evoque was a development of the Land Rover LRX concept vehicle, which was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in January 2008. The first generation Evoque was produced from July 2011 until 2018 in three and five-door versions, with both two-wheel and four-wheel drive. The second generation of the car went into production in 2018.

First generation (L538; 2011)

Development

The size of the LRX concept vehicle complemented a wide array of efficiency-improving technologies in the form of Land Rover's e_Terrain technologies. These included biofuel compatibility, lightweight construction materials, and technologies such as the removable carbon composite roof panels, regenerative brakes, a stop-start system, along with the ERAD (electric rear axle drive) parallel hybrid powertrain system.

ERAD system

The ERAD system could propel the LRX to speeds up to 20 mph (32 km/h) before the engine was started by an integrated starter generator as part of the stop-start system. ERAD was designed to reduce CO2 emissions by an average of 20% under the NEDC test cycle and was expected to offer another 10% reduction in extra-urban driving situations while also optimizing the off-road ability of the vehicle. Land Rover aimed to achieve 120 g/km CO2 emissions and fuel economy of 60 mpg‑imp (4.7 L/100 km; 50 mpg‑US) on the European combined cycle with an efficient 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine based on PSA DW12. The engine would become the only four-cylinder vehicle in the Range Rover lineup.

Negative 2013 Land rover Range rover evoque car reviews

  1. Enid Weimann 2025-11-01

Hi there! I recently posted a review of my Evoque at 65K, expressing my love for the vehicle and how I would be a Range Rover driver for life. However, at 66K miles, I encountered some issues with the gear that controls many functions of the vehicle. Although it was a bit frustrating, I was willing to overlook it, along with some other minor issues I had experienced in the past. Unfortunately, at 70K miles, I encountered a more serious issue with the engine that required a costly repair. Despite my love for the vehicle, I have heard similar stories from others and have come to the conclusion that leasing may be a better option than buying. It's a shame, but I still have fond memories of my time with the Evoque. Thanks for listening!

Hey there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with this vehicle. I purchased it in December 2015 with around 35k miles, but unfortunately, I wasn't aware that several repairs had already been made. The vehicle required major engine work in June 2015, and it even stalled while parked, leaving me stranded out of state for 3 days. Then, less than a couple of weeks later, it stalled with zero electric while I was driving. It's been in repair at the dealer for over a week and a half now. Just wanted to give you a heads up!

I purchased my 2013 Range Rover Evouque in August 2015 with approximately 45,000 miles. Unfortunately, the Turbo had already been replaced by the previous owner while under warranty, and I was not notified of this in the Carfax report. Despite the Turbo going out again, Land Rover Corporate has refused to cover the replacement cost and has not acknowledged that this is a known issue with the vehicle. I am very disappointed in their decision to not stand behind their product. During my interactions with Corporate, I was given a variety of excuses as to why this is my problem and not a faulty vehicle or part issue. This is unacceptable for such an expensive vehicle! In the past, I have had better experiences with Lincoln and Audi, and I will be returning to a company that stands by their product. Unfortunately, the customer service from Corporate was non-existent, and it felt like they were just reading from a script. Needless to say, I will never purchase from Land Rover again, and I look forward to the day when I no longer own this vehicle.

  4. Tracey Altenwerth 2025-04-09

I recently traded in my 2013 Evoque, which had 74600 miles on it. I purchased it used in 2017 with 57200 miles on it. Although I loved the car, it required frequent repairs, with the turbo failing twice, costing $4100 each time to replace. Additionally, the alternator failed two weeks ago, which cost $1600 to fix. The infotainment system also had issues with glitching, requiring a software update that cost $160. It's important to do your research before purchasing one, or you may end up spending a lot of money on maintenance.

  5. Justus Hegmann 2025-02-01

I chose the Dynamic model for its sporty appearance, but I am having trouble adjusting to the transmission programming. When maintaining a speed of around 30 mph in traffic and giving it a little gas, the car drops a gear, causing the rpm's to jump to 3000 and the turbo to kick in. This makes for a jerky ride, which is not ideal for a vehicle that costs over $60k. Additionally, my tail lights filled with condensation after the first car wash, and I have been waiting for the new and improved ones since then. This has affected the overall look of quality and prestige. However, I am hopeful that these issues will be resolved soon.

Positive 2013 Land rover Range rover evoque car reviews

  1. Warren Konopelski 2025-11-18

Prestige, fully loaded, 4-door: This car is amazing! It manages to be playful, rugged and sexy all at the same time. When you're inside, it feels incredibly fresh and the cabin is so airy and roomy. It drives like a much sportier, smaller car which is just fantastic. I love that this car is informal and off-road ready, so it can take a beating, but it still oozes luxury and freshness.

  2. Curt Auer 2025-11-12

Range Rover is known for its luxurious vehicles. While they are also known for some bugs, glitches, and electronic troubles, the Evoque is an extremely comfortable and tech-laden version of the Escape and Focus. The AWD system is legendary and the Evoque is no exception. It can handle snow, sand, mud, and even light rock crawling with ease. The surround view camera is awesome and works while in drive, making it great for offroading. Although the entertainment system and HMI are a bit slow, there are a couple of companies that offer an android auto/apple car play system/module that works in conjunction with the stock radio unit. Overall, the Evoque is a great car that offers a lot of features at a reasonable price. Fuel economy isn't great, but it's to be expected for a car of this size and weight. It's important to note that some stock parts are cheaply made, but the pleasantries can be seen when purchasing filters, fluids, light bulbs, brakes, and hoses. I've had mine for 4 months and have been able to change the brakes, rotors, pads, bulbs, oil, sway bar components, filters, exhaust, and a few other things with ease and at a reasonable price. If you're looking for a luxury car that can handle a variety of terrains, the Evoque is definitely worth considering. It's great to hear that you've had your dream car since 2011 and wouldn't trade it for much of anything!

  3. Mohammed Davis 2025-09-22

I just turned over my first 2,000 miles in my white and black Evoque Pure and I am completely accustomed to the visibility limits and the sound of the little 4 cylinder turbo. I decided to think of it as the sound of economy rather than missing that Porsche Carrera sound of power. Several times a day, I receive compliments, Oooos and Aaahs, and comments like 'Beautiful, Tight, Awesome'. Whether driving slow or fast, the Range Rover Evoque handles it in style and comfort with a feel of total control and confidence. The gas mileage is 30% better than my 06 Carrera S and I don't miss the speed because the Evoque is plenty fast enough and has great off-line punch. I highly recommend it.

  4. Darrell Little 2025-07-15

This Evoque is even better than I expected! I absolutely love it. I looked at all the other Compact Lux-Suv's and while they may start at a lower price, once you add comparable options they're all in the same ballpark. This thing is gorgeous, sexy, efficient, roomy and surprisingly peppy. It's perfect for the major city I live in - the size is just right, and the luxurious interior makes it feel like a dream. I opted for the 4 DR as it was more practical for me, but the 2 DR looks even sexier! It's so much fun to drive and gets looks everywhere it goes. I couldn't be happier with my purchase - I couldn't wait so I got one directly off the showroom floor. I wish I could've ordered it, but I'm still happy as hell. Trust me, it's worth every penny and you won't be disappointed. Oh, and if you're getting one, go for a bright color - it really makes it pop!

  5. Ludwig Rau 2025-06-18

I am the proud owner of the top-of-the-line 4-door model and I couldn't be happier with this vehicle. The exterior is flawless and the tires still have plenty of life left after 47,000 miles. The ride is incredibly smooth and the acceleration is great for a 2.0 turbo. It's quick up to 120 mph and then the 4-cylinder shows its power. While wind and road noise could be better, it's still impressive. The leather interior is stunning and all the components throughout the cabin are solid and functional. The stereo is amazing with 850 watts and 18 great speakers and a subwoofer, all heard through a Meridian system. It has all the capabilities for any music choices. The navigation is awesome and the off-road capabilities match anything as it is a Land Rover. The heated front and rear glass, heated steering and seats, and all the other features are top-notch. I've owned many brands of vehicles, including Toyota, Chevy, Ford, BMW, Mercedes, Lincoln, Hyundai, and Jaguar, and I can say that this Evoque is as good as any and turns heads of all ages. I am a very satisfied owner. I sold the vehicle in May of 2016 for $32,000.
