2010 Land rover Lr2 problems
The Land Rover Freelander is a series of four-wheel-drive vehicles that was manufactured and marketed by Land Rover from 1997 to 2015. Initially a compact SUV built on a body-on-frame chassis, the second generation model, sold from 2007 to 2015 in North America and the Middle East as the LR2 and in Europe as the Freelander 2, transitioned to a car-based platform which placed it into the compact crossover SUV class, and was developed alongside the Volvo XC60, the Volvo S80 and the third generation Ford Mondeo. The name 'Freelander' is derived from the combination of 'Freedom' and 'Lander'.
After having built exclusively body-on-frame 4WD vehicles for half a century, the first generation Freelander was the brand's first model to use monocoque (unibody) structures, and was offered in three- and five-door body options, including a semi soft-top. The second generation (2007–2015) dropped all two-door options, leaving only a five-door estate car-like body, and – after 62 years – became the brand's first ever to offer a two-wheel drive option (as of 2010).
After a five-year hiatus, the two-door Freelanders were succeeded by the three-door versions of the Range Rover Evoque in 2011, and the five-door generation 2 was replaced by the Discovery Sport in 2015, the nameplate spanning two generations and less than eighteen years.

THE BATTERY DIES REGULARLY AND HAS LEFT MY FAMILY AND I STRANDED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE BATTERY 6 TIMES IN 3 YEARS. EACH TIME I PURCHASE A HIGH END BATTERY TO TRY TO MITIGATE THE PROBLEM, BUT IT PERSISTS. THE BATTERY STARTS OUT GREAT, BUT OVER TIME IS WORN FURTHER AND FURTHER DOWN. THIS IS AN IN GOING ISSUE WITH MANY, MANY PEOPLE THAT HAS NEVER BEEN RESOLVED. THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AND FIXED. UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC),ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-04-09
- VIN: SALFR3BN4AH
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC),ENGINE
- Summary: 4 DAYS AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE IT BROKE DOWN DUE TO A LEAK IN THE ENGINE, THAT WAS FIXED. COST A 1000 TO REPAIR, WHEN THIS HAPPENED I WAS DRIVING HOME AND THE CAR JUMP AND STARTED TO SMOKE SO I PULLED OVER AND GOT IT TOWED. AFTER GETTING THE CAR BACK, I NOTICED THAT THE ALARM WAS GOING OFF FOR NO REASON. ALL DAY (IT WAS PARKED). THE ONLY THING THAT GOT IT TO STOP WAS TAKING OUT THE FUSE, BUT THAT SHOULDN'T BE HAPPENING IN THE FIRST PLACE. I REPLACED THE FUSE WITH A NEW ONE YESTERDAY AND THIS MORNING THE ALARM WAS GOING OFF IN MY GARAGE. THIS CAR ALSO HAS BATTERY ISSUES. I DIDN'T DRIVE IT FOR TWO DAYS AND THE BATTERY WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. THIS CAR IS CAUSING ME TO GO INTO DEBT DUE TO ALL THE THINGS THAT KEEP HAPPENING. I HAVE READ ONLINE THAT THIS MODEL AND MAKE OF THIS VEHICLE HAS THESE PROBLEMS. SO MANY PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THIS, I CALLED LAND ROVER TO ASK IF THIS WAS A ISSUE THAT HAPPENS OFTEN AND THEY COULDN'T TELL ME ANYTHING. I DON'T WANT TO PUT ANYMORE MONEY INTO A CAR THAT CANNOT BE FIXED.

THE SEAT BELT WORKS JUST FINE, BUT THE LIGHT STAYS ON (EVEN WHEN A PASSENGER IS IN THE CAR AND HAS THEIR SEAT BELT FASTENED). I SAW THAT THERE WAS A PREVIOUS RECALL ON LR2'S FOR MY YEAR ABOUT THE AIRBAGS AND I AM WORRIED THAT THEY WON'T FUNCTION IF I GET INTO A WRECK BECAUSE THE LIGHT IS ON.

- VIN: SALFR2BN1AH
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: I HAVE A 2010 LR2 HSE WITH APPROX. 59K. JUST TOOK IT TO MY REPAIR GUY WHO DIAGNOSED A PROBLEM WITH THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL. HE REFERRED ME TO THE LOCAL DEALER TO REPAIR. AFTER SPEAKING WITH THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT AND REALIZING THAT THEY KNEW EXACTLY WHAT THE PROBLEM IS WITH MY VEHICLE, I DID SOME RESEARCH AND SEE THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL OF CAR AND IS A VERY COSTLY REPAIR. I CAN'T GET MY VEHICLE INTO THE LR DEALER FOR MORE THAN 2 WEEKS - HOWEVER I AM WONDERING WHY, AFTER REVIEWING ALL OF THE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL IN THIS MAKE/MODEL OF VEHICLE THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL ON IT. I HAVE CONTACTED LR NA BUT DO NOT EXPECT REMEDIATION. I AM HOPING THE NHTSA WILL LOOK AT YET ANOTHER COMPLAINT AND PROVIDE CONSUMERS SOME ASSISTANCE IN THIS MATTER.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2017-04-14
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: REAR DIFFERENTIAL BEARING NOISE HUMMING REALLY LOUD. AS IF THERE ARE SNOW TIRES ON MY REAR WHEELS.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2016-11-29
- VIN: SALFR2BN9AH
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: MY 2010 LANDROVER LR2 WITH 70K MILES, STARTED MAKING LOUD HUMMING /GRINDING NOISES COMING FROM THE REAR END LATE IN 2016 WHEN DRIVING OVER 30 MPH, I CONTACTED LAND ROVER OF OMAHA AND LAND ROVER OF NORTH AMERICA FOR HELP IN RESOLVING THIS DEFECTIVE ISSUE. THE ONLY HELP I RECEIVED WAS A QUOTE FOR ABOUT $9300 TO FIX IT. WHICH I COULD NOT AFFORD. I NOW HAVE IT IN AN INDEPENDENT SHOP TO REPLACE THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL WITH A USED ONE THAT I HOPE LASTS FOR $1800
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2016-06-04
- VIN: SALFR2BN8AH
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: 2010 LR2 WITH 25,900 MILES ON IT DEVELOPED A WHINE IN THE REAR END. DEALER SAYS THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL NEEDS TO BE REBUILT/REPLACED FOR $2000+. SLIGHTLY OUT OF WARRANTY BY AGE (BUT NOT BY MILEAGE). DEALER SAY'S WARRANTY WILL NOT COVER, HOWEVER IT APPEARS THERE ARE MANY MANY OTHER CASES FOR THE LR2 THAT HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. HOWEVER, IT DOES NOT APPEAR THAT LAND ROVER NORTH AMERICA OR THE DEALER IS INTERESTED IN DEALING WITH THIS ISSUE, DESPITE THE FACT THAT IT SEEMS TO BE A PERVASIVE ISSUE. IT SEEMS THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL ISSUE TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2016-08-02
- VIN: SALFR2BN7AH
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: I BOUGHT A 2010 LAND ROVER LR2 FROM THE DEALER LESS THAT 1 YEAR AGO. IT HAD 72,000 MILES WHEN I BOUGHT IT, THE SALES REP AND LAND ROVER SAID THE CAR WAS A "LOANER" CAR FOR CUSTOMERS. THEY SAID IT WAS FULLY MAINTAINED AND SERVICED AT THE APPROPRIATE MILES. IVE ONLY DRIVEN IT 8,000 MILES AND THE DRIVE TRAIN IS NOW HUMMING AND WHIRLING. I TOOK IT TO AN INDEPENDENT SHOP AND THEY SAID THAT THESE LAND ROVER ARE INFAMOUS IN HAVING THESE PROBLEMS. MORE THAN ANY OTHER CAR. IN THIS CASE I STRONGLY FEEL LAND ROVER SHOULD AS A COURTESY FIX MY REAR DIFFERENTIAL BECAUSE IT IS NOT A COMMON PROBLEM AND A FLAW IN THESE CARS. THE HUMMING WHIRLY NOISE COMES AS YOU START TO RUN THE CAR AND GETS DUDE AS YOU SPEED UP. IN CONCLUSION THE REPAIR FOR THE DIFFERENTIAL IS VERY EXPENSIVE.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2016-01-21
- VIN: SALFR2BN1AH
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: LOUD WHINE/GROWLING SOUND COMING FROM DRIVE TRAIN AT ALL SPEEDS. GREW LOUDER OVER A PERIOD OF TWO WEEKS. HAD TO HAVE THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL REPLACED AT ONLY 35,890 MILES DUE TO BEARING FAILURE.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-08-14
- VIN: SALFT2BN0AH
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2010 LAND ROVER LR2 WITH AROUND 61,000 MILES ON IT FROM A FRIEND WHO HAD TAKEN GREAT CARE OF IT. AFTER PUTTING ABOUT A 1000 MILES ON IT IN 2 MONTHS, A ROARING NOISE STARTED COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE CAR WHILE DRIVING AROUND AT VARIOUS SPEEDS IN TOWN. NOTE THAT THIS CAR HAS NEVER BEEN OFF ROAD. IT WAS SUBTLE AT FIRST AND CONTINUED TO GROW LOUDER. I LOOKED THIS UP ONLINE AND WAS SHOCKED TO SEE THAT THIS WAS A POTENTIAL REAR DIFFERENTIAL FAILURE AND WAS EVEN MORE SHOCKED THAT IT APPEARS TO BE AN EPIDEMIC WITH THE VEHICLE. I CALLED LAND ROVER IN LITTLE ROCK, AR AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO BRING THE CAR IN TO BE LOOKED AT. AS FIRST THOUGHT, IT IS THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL GOING OUT AT 62,000 MILES AND THERE IS NO REPAIR, JUST A FULL REPLACEMENT FOR $2,800. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE TECH THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS CAR AND IT WAS A DESIGN FLAW. HE SAID THAT LAND ROVER IS FULLY AWARE OF THE ISSUE BUT THERE IS NO RECALL AT THIS TIME AS THEY DIDN'T SEE IT AS A SAFETY CONCERN. HOW CAN THIS BE? IF DRIVEN IN THIS CONDITION, IT WILL LOCK UP AT SOME POINT AND THERE YOU WILL BE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD OR FREEWAY! NOTE THAT THERE IS ALSO A SERVICE BULLETIN OUT DETAILING THE REPAIR. HE DID STATE THAT THE NEW REAR DIFFERENTIAL IS AN IMPROVED DESIGN? ONE OF THE SITES DETAILING THIS ISSUE IS WWW.LANDROVERSONLY.COM.
STEERING,SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-01-01
- VIN: SALFR2BN7AH
- Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION
- Summary: 2010 LAND ROVER LR2. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO STEERING AND REAR WHEEL PROBLEMS AND REPAIRS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED EVEN THOUGH THE INVOICE STATED ALL APPLICABLE MEASUREMENTS WERE CHECKED. SPECIFICALLY, THE STEERING GEOMETRY, WHICH WAS ADJUSTED, THE CASTOR, CAMBER, KING PIN INCLINATION, TOE IN/OUT ON TURNS AND THE REAR WHEEL. THE INSPECTION REPORT SHOWED ALL SAFETY, HANDLING AND DRIVEABILITY LINE ITEMS WERE IN PROPER WORKING ORDER. HOWEVER, THE CONSUMER CONTINUED TO HEAR A NOISE AND FEEL A PULL TO THE RIGHT SIDE . THE CONSUMER STATED BASED ON THE NOISES, SHE WAS CONVINCED, THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE SUSPENSION.
SUSPENSION,SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2012-08-01
- VIN: SALFR2BN7AH
- Components: SUSPENSION,SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC
- Summary: OUT OF NOWHERE THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE STARTED MAKING THESE LOUD, ROARING AND HUMMING NOISES THAT EVENTUALLY TURNED INTO A GRINDING NOISE. FIRST THOUGHT THE PROBLEM WAS THE BRAKES; INNER & OUTER BRAKES AS WELL AS THE ROTORS WERE REPLACED WITH NO CHANGES, NOISES STILL CONTINUE. AFTER THAT; ALL 4 TIRES WERE REPLACED WITH A FULL ALIGNMENT, NOTHING SEEMED TO HELP THE NOISES AT ALL. AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH OF THIS PROBLEM; IT SEEMS THERE HAS BEEN AN ISSUE WITH THE REAR END DIFFERENTIAL ON THIS MAKE/MODEL VEHICLE FOR THE LAST 5 YEARS, THAT THE MANUFACTURER IS HIGHLY AWARE OF. I'M A MOTHER OF SMALL CHILDREN AND MY MAIN CONCERN IS THEIR SAFETY IN THIS MATTER; IF THIS PROBLEM IS ALLOWED TO CONTINUE, IT COULD END UP WITH THE REAR WHEELS LOCKING UP. THIS ISSUE IS VERY SERIOUS; BETTER YET, VERY DANGEROUS AND NEEDS FURTHER INVESTIGATION. *TR
POWER TRAIN,WHEELS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2013-05-07
- VIN: SALFT2BN3AH
- Components: POWER TRAIN,WHEELS
- Summary: I STARTED TO HEAR A WHIRRING NOISE SO TOOK THE CAR TO A REPAIR CENTER (WITHIN 48 HOURS) THAT WORKS ON LAND ROVERS (THERE ARE NO LONGER ANY LAND ROVER DEALERSHIPS IN VT) AND THEY FOUND THAT THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL WAS DETERIORATED (VISCOUS FLUID, METAL CHIPS SHREDDING). THE CAR WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE - THEY FOUND THAT, WHEN THEY ORDERED THE REPLACEMENT PART, THE SUPPLIER IS GETTING THIS PROBLEM ON THIS MODEL 4-5 TIMES PER MONTH. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING I WOULD EXPECT ON A 3 YR OLD CAR WITH THE SUPPOSED DURABILITY OF A LR THAT IS DRIVEN ONLY ON REGULAR ROADS (NO OFF ROAD DRIVING WHICH SUPPOSEDLY CAN BE DONE IN A LAND ROVER). LAND ROVER SAYS THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS BECAUSE IT IS 1) OUT OF WARRANTY AND 2) I DID NOT TAKE IT TO A LR DEALER EVEN THOUGH THERE WERE EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES AS THE NEAREST DEALER IS NOW HOURS AWAY SINCE THE VT DEALER CLOSED 2 YRS AGO AND I COULD HAVE HAD AN ACCIDENT IF I HAD CONTINUED TO DRIVE THE CAR WITH THIS SERIOUS PROBLEM. IT SEEMS TO ME THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE DIFFERENTIAL PARTS INSTALLED IN THE LAND ROVER LR2 THAT COULD CAUSE SERIOUS ACCIDENTS TO HAPPEN WHEN THEY FAIL. *TR
AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2013-04-15
- VIN: SALFR2BN9AH
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 LAND ROVER LR2. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE MODULE FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 53,000. ..UPDATED 07-17-13 *BF
VISIBILITY PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2010-04-10
- VIN: SALFT2BNXAH
- Components: VISIBILITY
- Summary: I HAVE A 2010 LAND ROVER LR2 WHICH IS EQUIPPED WITH A HEATED WINDSHIELD. THE WINDSHIELD HAS THE ELECTRIC HEATING UNIT RUNNING VERTICAL THROUGHOUT. I NOTICED THAT AS YOU ARE DRIVING THE VEHICLE FOR A PERIOD OF TIME THE ELECTRIC ELEMENTS BECOME A DISTRACTION BECAUSE THERE IS NOT A CLEAR VIEW THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD. I BELIEVE THAT THIS CAN BECOME A SAFETY ISSUE. PLEASE INVESTIGATE BEFORE I END UP HAVING AN ACCIDENT OR SOMEONE ELSE DOES THAT OWNS A LAND ROVER LR2. *TR

It's great to hear that you're interested in a smaller SUV, and this car is definitely worth considering! While there are many competitors out there, including Medz, Lex, BMW, Volvo, and Acura, the price of this car is very fair for what you get. It's more like a truck than other car-based SUVs, but it still rides nicely. Even though it's the lowest-end Land Rover, it has the same look and feel as the more expensive models, like the Sport.

This car is an excellent value for your money. I have had no issues with it so far and it feels very well-built. It is also a joy to drive, with enough power to drive it sportily without feeling uncomfortable or unsafe. The Alpine Dolby Surround stereo system is fantastic and the Bluetooth connects right away to any of my phones (although it could be a bit louder). The navigation is terrific, although the updates can be a bit pricey. The brakes are great (especially with the 19

Congratulations on your first car purchase after completing school! It sounds like you made a great choice with this SUV, which has impressive off-road capabilities and performs well on the freeway. While it may be smaller than other Land Rovers, it still offers all-terrain modes found in more expensive models. The regular maintenance you've done, such as oil changes, air filter changes, and coolant changes, are important to keep your car running smoothly. The only downside you mentioned is that the Bluetooth feature only allows for making calls, not playing music from your phone. Overall, it sounds like you have a reliable and versatile vehicle that will serve you well.

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my recent experience with purchasing a vehicle while on vacation. The drive back home was a breeze - I drove 525 miles and the gas mileage was fantastic, averaging between 24.8 - 25 mpg while cruising at 75mph. I'm happy to report that everything works as described and I'm especially pleased with the technology and cold climate packages that I opted for. Best of all, I was able to snag a great deal and got $10,000 off the sticker price, bringing the total cost to just $30,800. Thanks for taking the time to read about my experience!

I recently purchased a 2009 LR2 and was thoroughly impressed with its off-road capabilities. Additionally, I learned that these same characteristics translate to superior on-road performance and safety. The LR2 boasts power leather seats, two sunroofs, and a fantastic sound system, making for a truly enjoyable buying experience.

I'm glad to hear that you have experience with Land Rovers, and it's great to know that the LR2 is a comfortable entry point to the brand. The off-road and snow capabilities are impressive, and it's good to hear that the extended driving stretches with your family were comfortable. The cabin sounds lovely with the sunroof and moonroof, and the driver visibility is a plus. While the armrests could be more plush, the LR2 still offers adequate storage space in the back and a good sound system. With a great warranty, I would definitely recommend the LR2 to anyone looking for a compact SUV with above-average snow and off-road capabilities.

My new LR2 has 230 miles on it. Unfortunately, I realized the day after I purchased it that it was not ergonomically suitable for me. The armrest is very thin and cuts off circulation no matter what height or arm position. If you put the armrest up, there is nowhere to put your arm. What's worse is that in the up position, the metal adjustment screw (about 2

This car has been a disappointment since the day I bought it. Despite owning it for only three months, I have already spent over $5,000 on repairs. Even the Land Rover dealership couldn't fix the AC, but they did find $4,600 worth of other issues. When we tried to pick it up from the dealership, the car wouldn't start and they demanded another $800 for a new starter. It's clear that these cars are not worth the trouble and finding a mechanic willing to work on them is a challenge. In my opinion, the Land Rover brand is overrated and not worth the investment.
