The Land Rover Freelander is a series of four-wheel-drive vehicles that was manufactured and marketed by Land Rover from 1997 to 2015. Initially a compact SUV built on a body-on-frame chassis, the second generation model, sold from 2007 to 2015 in North America and the Middle East as the LR2 and in Europe as the Freelander 2, transitioned to a car-based platform which placed it into the compact crossover SUV class, and was developed alongside the Volvo XC60, the Volvo S80 and the third generation Ford Mondeo. After having built exclusively body-on-frame 4WD vehicles for half a century, the first generation Freelander was the brand's first model to use monocoque (unibody) structures, and was offered in three- and five-door body options, including a semi soft-top. The second generation (2007–2015) dropped all two-door options, leaving only a five-door estate car-like body, and – after 62 years – became the brand's first ever to offer a two-wheel drive option (as of 2010).
After a five-year hiatus, the two-door Freelanders were succeeded by the three-door versions of the Range Rover Evoque in 2011, and the five-door generation 2 was replaced by the Discovery Sport in 2015, the nameplate spanning two generations and less than eighteen years.

WHILE PARKED THE PUDDLE AND SMELL ARE EVER MORE PRESENT LONG AFTER ENGINE IS IN STANDBY. MILLAGE OF VEHICLE APPROX. 110,000. NO FIRES OR FATAL INJURIES AS OF YET. MODELS LR4 & RANGE ROVER SPORT (2010-2016) HAVE BEEN ISSUED A RECALL FOR PROBLEM DESCRIBED WITHIN.

ALSO METAL SCRAPINGS FROM THE REAR BARRINGS WAS GETTING INTO THE OIL PAN. THE DEALER I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM IS REFUSING TO FIX IT EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE A 30 DAY WARRANTY.

AFTER TAKING MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS A SENSOR ISSUE AND SUGGESTED THAT I PAY $2,000 TO REPLACE THE SENSOR BENEATH THE PASSENGER SEAT (A REPAIR THAT WOULD NOT HAVE RESOLVED THE UNDERLYING ISSUE ACCORDING TO THE MECHANICS WHO LATER EXAMINED MY VEHICLE). AFTER READING ABOUT THE LR2 RECALL RELATED TO THE AIRBAG LIGHT, I ASKED IF MY VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID NO. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO ANOTHER SHOP TO GET A SECOND OPINION. I JUST MENTIONED THE LIGHT AND NOT ANYTHING RELATED TO THE RECALL BEFORE THEY LOOKED AT IT. AFTER EXTENSIVE TESTING, THEY FOUND THAT THE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE, UO154-00, APPEARED AND TOLD ME THAT THE DEALERSHIP SHOULD RESOLVE THE ISSUE FREE OF CHARGE SINCE IT IS THE EXACT PROBLEM ENCOMPASSED BY THE RECALL (CAMPAIGN #14V395000). I AM FAIRLY CERTAIN THAT MY VEN # IS OUTSIDE OF THE SCOPE OF THE RECALL SO I AM UNSURE OF HOW TO PROCEED.

- Summary: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain model year 2010-2015 LR2 and 2012-2013 Range Rover Evoque vehicles. A component within the Occupant Classification System (OCS) Electronic Control Unit (ECU) may fail, resulting in the front seat passenger air bag being totally or partially disabled.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating air bag deployment, if the air bag is disabled, the air bag may not deploy or may not deploy properly, increasing the risk of injury to the front seat passenger.
- Remedy: Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will update the Restraint Control Module software, free of charge. The recall began on August 30, 2014. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837. Land Rover's number for this recall is P046.

I have had 18 cars in my life, but my 2010 LR2 HSE is by far the best of them all. It's an absolute pleasure to drive and always runs great, even with 108,000 miles on the clock. I just got new tires and oil changes, and it's still running like a dream!

I live in Western Australia and our CRD LR2 has just come back from 2000 miles in the outback towing a two ton caravan! This vehicle is just awesome and towed brilliantly along with going truly off-road through deep soft sand, over rocks and never missed a beat. Aside from a small steering rack issue that was fixed when it was a few weeks old, the car has been perfect. My wife went from skeptic to Land Rover fan!

I have a 2009 LR2. At first, I was hesitant to buy it because of my past experiences with LR/RR products. However, I have been extraordinarily impressed with this beast from the first time I drove it. My previous vehicles, a County and an older defender, had their own unique features and issues. The County was a gas-guzzling, plush leather, and loaded with features tank that had some mechanical and electrical issues. On the other hand, the older defender was simple, reliable, and had virtually no issues. However, it lacked comfort amenities and struggled to keep up with regular traffic speeds. In contrast, the LR2 has plenty of power and is comfortable to drive. I have a mid-level 1 and it suits my needs perfectly. Overall, I am very happy with my LR2 purchase.I really love the A post speakers, which is something that most other luxury brands don't have. The mileage is not so great, though. I think 16 mpg is somewhat hopeful, as mine only gets about 8 mpg. It's quite thirsty. Yes, you can run 89 in it, but the mileage and power are affected. It's a trade-off, I suppose? In my experience with all LR/RR products regarding off-road abilities, I can say that they are astounding. I have off-road and rock crawling experience, admittedly not with Rovers, but comparatively speaking, they never cease to amaze me. The newer ones are still off-roaders disguised as mall crawlers. With a standard factory setup and not very aggressive tires, my LR2 is an absolute billy goat. I recently drove it through 1Oh, and one last thing, I wanted to share some inside track knowledge with you. Did you know that many of these motors are actually made by Volvo? This could explain the reliability I have experienced with mine. However, it's important to note that regular maintenance is crucial. All of these motors burn oil, whether they are brand new or not. I guess it's a trade-off for more power with a smaller engine? I can't wait to buy another one, hopefully, I can find another 3.2 liter and not be 'stuck with' buying a 2.0.

I purchased a 2009 LR2 HSE for $40K, but unfortunately experienced several issues. The leather began to crack within the first year, and the color of the front grill and side light covers faded and chipped due to sun exposure. Additionally, I encountered difficulties with the remote key locking system and had to replace the rear differential and other components, which cost me approximately $10K. In comparison, my 21-year-old Toyota 4Runner has not required such extensive repairs. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this car.

This car has been a disappointment since the day I bought it. Despite owning it for only three months, I have already spent over $5,000 on repairs. Even the Land Rover dealership couldn't fix the AC, but they did find $4,600 worth of other issues. When we tried to pick it up from the dealership, the car wouldn't start and they demanded another $800 for a new starter. In my experience, Land Rovers are more trouble than they're worth and finding a mechanic willing to work on them is a challenge. It's clear that the Land Rover name is overrated and not worth the investment.
