2021 Jeep Renegade problems
The Jeep Renegade is a subcompact crossover SUV produced by Stellantis under their Jeep marque. It was first shown to the public in March 2014 at the Geneva Motor Show and production started in late August of that year. The Renegade was the smallest vehicle currently marketed by Jeep, until the arrival of the Avenger. It slots between the Avenger and the Compass. It is based on the FCA Small Wide 4×4 platform which is also shared with other FCA models, including from Fiat and Alfa Romeo brands.
The Renegade came standard with front-wheel drive, with optional four-wheel drive systems Active Drive I and Active Drive Low, both of which are paired with Jeep's Selec-Terrain System.
Overview
The Renegade is the first Jeep product to be produced exclusively outside of North America and has been sold in the North American, European, Brazilian, South African, Australian, Japanese and Chinese markets. The vehicle is built in Melfi, Italy with the designation BU/520, alongside the related Fiat 500X; Goiana, Brazil with the designation B1 (alongside Jeep Compass and Fiat Toro); and in Guangzhou, China codenamed BQ.
Standard Renegade models come with front-wheel drive, with four-wheel drive available on Sport, Latitude and Limited trims. In the US, the lineup consists of Sport, Latitude and Limited trims, all of which come with a choice of front- and four-wheel drive, as well as the Trailhawk trim, which is 4WD only.
The Renegade has an available My Sky dual-panel removable roof. The My Sky can be either retracted like a standard sunroof or removed completely for a more open-air experience, similar to that of the Jeep Wrangler.

Common 2021 Jeep Renegade problems
The 2021 Jeep Renegade has been reported to have several common problems, primarily related to its engine, transmission, electrical system, and suspension components.
One of the most reported issues with the 2021 Jeep Renegade is related to the engine. Many Renegade owners have reported issues regarding stalling, loud engine noises, and hesitation during acceleration. The 2.4L Tigershark engine seems to be at the forefront of these problems, with Jeep issuing a few recalls and service bulletins, but many owners have still not found a satisfactory solution to the problem.
Transmission issues have also been reported on the Renegade, making it a concern for many potential owners. The Renegade's 9-speed automatic transmission seems to have been the biggest offender throughout the years, with issues ranging from slow to shift and shift hesitation. Many others have expressed concern with their Renegade transmission shuddering, jerking, and failing throughout ownership. Jeep has issued several technical service bulletins to address some of these issues, but the transmission issues on Jeep Renegade continue to concern some owners.
Along with ongoing engine issues, some Renegade owners also reported issues with the vehicle's electrical system. From looking at consumer reports, many owners experienced a sudden loss of power, engine stalling, and malfunctioning dashboard lights. Judging by past repairs, the electrical issues seem to stem from faulty wiring or defective electronic components. Left untreated or undiagnosed, an electrical issue can cause significant damage to your vehicle and, in some cases, an electrical fire. Electrical issues should be resolved by a professional mechanic to ensure the safety of your vehicle.
Throughout the last few years, Renegade owners have reported issues with their suspension components, leading to uneven tire wear, poor handling, and decreased stability. These issues mainly involve 2015-2017 year models and have been linked to problems with suspension bushings. While Jeep has not issued a recall for these issues, owners are encouraged to bring their vehicles to their local dealership for repairs if they are experiencing any problems with their suspension.
In summary, the 2021 Jeep Renegade has been reported to have several common problems, primarily related to its engine, transmission, electrical system, and suspension components. These issues have caused concern for many Renegade owners, with some reporting a lack of satisfactory solutions from Jeep. It is essential to be aware of these issues and address them promptly to ensure the safety and longevity of your vehicle.

- Summary: I submitted a report about this vehicle on December 4, 2023 (11558276) because the mechanic thought the computer chip failed on this vehicle that had less than 25,000 miles. After waiting 6 weeks for a new chip, the mechanic test drove the car and experienced the same problem. He took the front bumper off and discovered a wire that had the covering worn off. Once this was repaired, it seems to run OK. However, my concern is what caused this wire to become exposed? Is there a defect in the design or sloppy manufacturing? I want to make sure that someone outside of Jeep is aware of this problem.

- VIN: ZACNJDBB1MP
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: We experienced an electrical failure while driving the Jeep Renegade. We had no power or brakes and multiple warning lights were flashing on the dashboard. Fortunately, we were able to pull into a business parking lot and stopped by running into a snow berm. We could not stop the engine and tried many times to turn the engine off during the 3 hours we waited for a tow truck. We were finally able to turn off the engine and drove it to the local Ford dealership with the tow truck following us. We went to the dealer the following morning and the customer service rep started the engine and experienced the same problem. He was unable to stop the engine. He said it could take up to a month for repairs since they only have one Jeep mechanic. I drove it the previous day on a 120 mile trip and traveled on I-75. It could have been deadly if the car failed on that busy Interstate.

- Summary: Vehicle stalls at random times. Dealership service center unable to duplicate problem. Vehicle was first brought in for repairs before 2 years or 24,000 miles but computer wasn’t giving a code. Took vehicle for repairs on February 28 and picked it up on March 2. I received a phone call prior to picking up my vehicle from the service advisor. He informed me that now Chrysler is aware of this issue and is trying to come up with a solution to repair it. I called the owner of the dealership and asked if he could get me a replacement vehicle and he said he has nothing to do with the lemon law. It’s between Chrysler and myself. I am being forced to drive an unsafe vehicle that just stalls at random times. The owner said that my vehicle is the only vehicle sold from his dealership that has this issue but there are other Jeep/Chryslers sold from different dealerships that have this issue. From the first time I reported this problem, I don’t think anyone believed me because they were never able to duplicate the stalling. I work as a part time courier and am afraid to drive my vehicle. I can’t wait until they find a solution. I’ve already had a few close calls with almost being rear ended. This issue started in June of 2022.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-06-20
- VIN: ZACNJDD16MP
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: Transmissions are defective! Will not go into 8th or 9th gear under any circumstances. Jeep says it is what it is. Transmission runs hot (3/4 or hotter) and mileage is awful. Factory rep was to meet with me and backed out telling dealer customers have to deal with it. Transmission will not hold up to driving 75mph for hours. Dealer was informed of issue 50 mi. after delivery and said it would fix itself after it hit 1k. Vehicles do not meet CAFE standards. Mileage is 25 to 33 percent less than rating. I have had 2 Jeep cases and first one ended when rep was told not to meet with me. I believe it is another case of Bosch having one tune for testing and one for the consumer like the eco diesel. I have emailed my congressman to let him know. I will bring my car wherever you wish to be tested. I have 2 of these and both are doing same thing. The Blogs have several people who also have this issue. We paid for 9 speeds and not 6 or 7.

- VIN: ZACNJDD16MP
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE
- Summary: Picked up Jeep in Kansas City. Got on highway and transmission (trans) would not shift into high gears. Called dealership and was told to contact local dealer. Got back to Texas (560 mi.) and contacted 4 dealers in the DFW area. All said there were issues with 9 sp. trans. One said put 2500 mi. on and see if it is a computer break in issue. Took to local dealer with 3300 mi and they did a Star Case. Subsequently, I also went with Manager and confirmed issue. Was contacted by Ralph at Jeep (CASE #82736087). Was told car was submitted for buyback. Two days later, buyback was off the table, and I was stuck with it. Jeep said that no problem found per dealership. Called dealership and was told flat out that was not the case. They drove one off the lot and it did just fine (2022 model). Meanwhile, I posted on a Renegade forum and other people are having same issue. We refer to this as "Paid for a 9-speed transmission, but only got 7. This is a safety issue. I drive mostly 75 mph highway roads in Northern Texas using my adaptive cruise and am causing harm by the rpm being much higher than it should be.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-04-30
- VIN: ZACNJCB12MP
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: On Saturday, April 30th our brand new 2021 Jeep Renegade's front passenger window spontaneously exploded. The window inexplicably exploded before we even made our first car payment and we have captured the event on our garage's Wyze camera. Luckily no one was injured but an event like this could have killed someone. Jim Marsh Dealership claimed to have never seen this before, despite there being numerous claims online of consumers reporting exploding windows and sunroofs. We are still getting the run around from Jim Marsh Jeep and Jeep Wave. Both parties have been far more concerned with who has to pay the towing charge rather than show any concern or regard for our safety or the safety of other consumers. There either needs to be a warning label on all tempered glass windows, some sort of protective film needs to be placed over all tempered glass windows, or every consumer should have to sign a waiver stating that they are aware that their tempered glass windows/sunroofs may spontaneously explode.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the wiring system had melted due to exposure to the exhaust gases. The dealer informed the contact that the exhaust pipe was malformed as it was routed incorrectly in a straight outward direction instead of being curved. The dealer advised the contact that it was a manufacturer defect. The vehicle was repaired; however, upon taking the vehicle to her residence, the contact noticed that the rear bumpers had melted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was awaiting a call back from the manufacturer. The failure mileage was approximately 1,650.

I'm not quite sure why this SUV is receiving such mediocre reviews from car magazines. In my experience, it handles very well with precise steering, a comfortable ride, and no squeaks or rattles. The visibility is also great. While the acceleration with the 2.4 engine is reasonable, my only complaint is the lack of adaptive cruise control, which is only offered on the most expensive line.

Best vehicle I've purchased at an excellent price.

Hi there! I recently went on a search for a 2021 Jeep Renegade and found it to be a popular choice. Unfortunately, there weren't many available locally and people were coming from out of town to pick them up before I had a chance to go to the dealer. However, I didn't let that discourage me and expanded my search. After a bit of searching, I found the perfect color and model two hours away. Thanks to the internet, I was able to easily compare sales and ended up spending limited time at the dealership. The drive home in my new Renegade was smooth and comfortable!

Hi there! I noticed that you mentioned a small gas tank. Have you considered upgrading to a larger one? It might save you some trips to the gas station!
-
I love your new Jeep! Lane assist can be a little freaky to get used to, but otherwise, it sounds like it's fun to drive and saving you tons of gas money.

I had high hopes for this vehicle, especially after seeing the advertisements claiming it could handle any weather and terrain. Unfortunately, when the temperature dropped in Michigan, the car wouldn't start and both the foot brake and emergency brake were blocked. This has left me without transportation to pick up my two children from daycare or get to my night shift as a nurse. I am extremely disappointed and will not be purchasing from this company again. I will also be warning my friends and family to avoid this car, unless they live in a location with no snow. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Although I have owned several Jeeps in the past and enjoyed them, my experience with the 2020 Renegade Latitude has been disappointing. Despite having a combined gas mileage of 23, the 12-gallon gas tank is inadequate, requiring me to refuel three times a week. Additionally, the ride quality is comparable to that of an 18-wheel truck.

My girlfriend just bought a 2020 Jeep Altitude after her Rogue was totaled when a 15-year-old in a 4x4 ran a stop sign. She didn't ask me for any help, which was a mistake, but she shopped around a little and got it for the asking price. In my opinion, there are far better values for the money and the vehicle class. The ride is harsh, and the acceleration is awful. There are very few amenities compared to the Rogue, and I'm not a fan of Nissan either, but she likes it and she's paying for it. There's a difference between 'cheap' and 'inexpensive', and this Jeep is inexpensive. The Rogue was better built, rode better, had more features, and was more efficient. However, she's happy with her purchase, and that's what matters. I hope she enjoys her new car!

The quality of the product is subpar as the heated seats ceased functioning within a year.
