The Jeep Renegade is a subcompact crossover SUV produced by Stellantis under their Jeep marque. It was first shown to the public in March 2014 at the Geneva Motor Show and production started in late August of that year. The Renegade was the smallest vehicle currently marketed by Jeep, until the arrival of the Avenger. It slots between the Avenger and the Compass. It is based on the FCA Small Wide 4×4 platform which is also shared with other FCA models, including from Fiat and Alfa Romeo brands.
The Renegade came standard with front-wheel drive, with optional four-wheel drive systems Active Drive I and Active Drive Low, both of which are paired with Jeep's Selec-Terrain System.
Overview
The Renegade is the first Jeep product to be produced exclusively outside of North America and has been sold in the North American, European, Brazilian, South African, Australian, Japanese and Chinese markets. The vehicle is built in Melfi, Italy with the designation BU/520, alongside the related Fiat 500X; Goiana, Brazil with the designation B1 (alongside Jeep Compass and Fiat Toro); and in Guangzhou, China codenamed BQ.
Standard Renegade models come with front-wheel drive, with four-wheel drive available on Sport, Latitude and Limited trims. In the US, the lineup consists of Sport, Latitude and Limited trims, all of which come with a choice of front- and four-wheel drive, as well as the Trailhawk trim, which is 4WD only.
The Renegade has an available My Sky dual-panel removable roof. The My Sky can be either retracted like a standard sunroof or removed completely for a more open-air experience, similar to that of the Jeep Wrangler.

The issue is the center pin for the ground wire connecting the rear lighting housing had melted. This was determined after searching online for assistance to figure out the issue, as the lights and fuses were all in working order. Apparently this is extremely common in the 2017 Jeep Renegade specifically. It is a costly repair, which most people cannot repair themselves, myself included.

- Summary: On 7/26/2024 I was driving my 2017 Jeep Renegade 1.4L Eastbound on I-70 going ~65mph. My dash had zero warning lamps or messages and there were no other symptoms of any problem yet suddenly at mile marker 188 my engine had no power, abundant smoke exited my tailpipe and engine, and I was forced to immediately pull over into a shallow construction zone with heavy interstate traffic whizzing past us. I turned my vehicle off and just turned the power back on for any information. Only then did the check engine light illuminate. I searched through my dash indicators and saw that there was simply no reading for Oil Temperature. I have immaculate maintenance records since the day I purchased my vehicle in 2019 including regular full synthetic oil and filter changes (on average 2,989 miles for years). I had two multi-point vehicle inspections at my original dealer (my due diligence maintenance before my extended warranty expired) around 2,000 miles, an oil change 1,038 miles, and a cooling system pressure test at 1,029 miles before this incident occurred. I had two independent, certified mechanic companies diagnose and confirm my vehicle condition: Cylinder 1 had no compression with a crack in the piston. My vast research on Jeep Renegades with 1.4L and 2.4L engines validates all my issues. I believe this catastrophic engine failure at a shocking odometer reading of 61,881 is due to a defect and it puts me and others at major safety risk. This was my second financially offensive event as my first involved having to replace my clutch system at mile 45,057 for ~$4,500 despite having owned and properly operated other manuals with no issue for years. In addition to the cost of maintenance, multiple expensive repairs, numerous towing events, mechanic diagnostics, renting cars when this Jeep failed me, I am now looking at a $10,000 engine fix for a historically unreliable vehicle. Axle on left side of jeep was broke -took jeep to have serviced for oil and tire rotation. Service person found that the axel was broke. Cost $1500 Service man stated the axel was like a straw.

The cap of each of the 20 lug bolts is of a metal alloy that expands under normal driving conditions, making it impossible to remove the lug bolts by an ordinary operator in the event of a tire failure. The car dealership identified this problem during tire rotation service and stated that the problem OEM lug bolts are endemic to Jeep vehicles. This was the first instance that I was aware of this problem. The dealership require the consumer to pay for replacements wholly made of steel. MOPAR charges over $11/lug bolt. The cost of a full set of 20 lug bolts is over $200. Why doesn't the manufacturer or dealer recall and replace the lug bolts at no cost to the consumer?

While driving, the buckle comes unlatched causing a safety issue. This is a safety hazard due to a defective safety belt system.

The next day, my car had been driving for 10+ min and struggled to accelerate out of light, specifically in range of 30-45 mph and the RPMs shot up to 3000. - Summary: This car is a lemon and the entire car should be a recall. Shortly after having it I had to replace the tires , brakes , suspension. Then just a couple months ago I had a sediment in the coolant that is very rare and the only time the mechanic experienced that was on recall cars where (not sure if I am saying this correctly) dust is left when they cast the engine in production. And it takes years for it to build up and destroy your car. Now it’s at jeep in Dade city Fl and they said the engine is bad … after spending $950 on the sediment issue. Another $980 a couple weeks ago for battery , spark plugs , computer software update etc. now they want another $700 just to open my engine up and see what’s wrong. I am done. So as of now I have no car. Jeep only offered me $2k to buy it from me. And I still owe $12k. And I put about $3k into it in the last 5 months. This should be illegal to sell a lemon like this and leave a consumer like me more than $12k out. And from my research. Many others have the same complaint. Something legally should be done about this.

In certain operating conditions such as high power demand in conjunction with high altitude and/or high ambient temperatures, a manufacturing error in the fuel pump assembly may result in a loss of fuel pressure.
- Consequence: A loss of fuel pressure can cause a stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel pump, free of charge. The recall began April 26, 2019. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is UB2.

- Summary: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2017 Jeep Renegade vehicles. Due to a software issue, multiple malfunction indicator lamps may illuminate on the instrument panel when no malfunction exists. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 101, "Control and Displays."
- Consequence: If the malfunction indicator lamps illuminate at incorrect times, the driver may be unaware when a true malfunction occurs, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update the Instrument Panel Control software, free of charge. The recall began on September 14, 2017. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is T50.

I posted a positive review when my car was just over a year old. Now, after driving 50K miles in 2-1/2 years, I still look forward to getting into my Renegade every day. Yesterday, I was able to stow 2 push mowers in the hatch area with no issue (rear seats down, of course). I've only had one issue so far, about 6 months ago I noticed some front end noise over bumps, but it was nothing too intrusive. I got the car up on a lift and discovered that I had some play in my stabilizer links. I picked up 2 new ones for $60 and installed them myself. Voila, problem gone! I've done about 10 oil changes to date and replaced all four original tires this past winter for a very reasonable price since I have the 16

The Trailhawk is a great baby Jeep that's perfect for off-road driving and handles bad city roads with ease. When shopping for one, make sure to do your research and get all the options you want. I made the mistake of assuming that the one I got had the trail package like the others I test drove, but it didn't have a trail hitch or the MySky feature, which would have made it even cooler. So, take your time and make sure you get exactly what you want. Overall, it's a really cool car!

I'm so glad to hear that your daughter is okay after such a scary accident! It's amazing that the rollbar and side airbags in the car were able to protect her during such a high-speed rollover. Even though the 2017 model flipped and rolled when she tried to avoid a collision, the safety features in the car helped her to escape without any serious injuries. The Trailhawk is a capable vehicle, especially for suburban use. While it may not be the best fit for urban or rural living, it has some great features such as a full-size spare tire. The engine may run hot, but the gauges indicate that it is normal. The transmission can be a bit noisy and sluggish when shifting and accelerating, and the gas mileage is only fair. However, if you opt for the GPS and Sirius radio options, you won't be disappointed. The cargo capacity is limited, but the interior could benefit from higher intensity LED lights throughout the vehicle. Lastly, the backup lights could use some improvement in illumination. Overall, the Trailhawk has its pros and cons, but it's definitely worth considering for your next vehicle purchase.

I have had my 2017 Trailhawk in the dealership for warranty work almost 30 times now. Despite having a transmission replacement at 1,500 miles, 8 software updates for the TCM, 2 TCM replacements, wiring harness replacement, valve body replacement, and 2 new sets of cooling fans, the transmission is still not functioning properly. It slips so badly that it goes into limp mode, at which point I only have 5th gear. I am confident that I will be able to get an arbitration and a buy back.

I purchased the Jeep Renegade used with only 22,000 miles on it. Unfortunately, after a month of having it, I realized that there were some issues with starting up when it was cold outside. I had to wait and press the auto start on the keys to get the car to start. Additionally, the ignition coil went bad and needed to be replaced after 6 months, and I had to change all the spark plugs too. The tire pressure light also came on after 9 months. It's been a bit of a bumpy ride, and I wouldn't recommend this small SUV to anyone.

This car has been a constant source of frustration. Despite having only 42000 miles, it has been in the shop several times and experiences serious issues on a monthly basis. The window locks don't work, and the heated seats, back defrost, and steering wheel heat come on automatically when the car is started. Additionally, when making sharp turns, the car almost comes to a stop. Last month, the taillight system failed, costing $350 to repair. Unfortunately, I have regretted purchasing this car since day one and would not recommend it to others.
