2015 Jeep Renegade problems

The Jeep Renegade is a subcompact crossover SUV produced by Stellantis under their Jeep marque. It was first shown to the public in March 2014 at the Geneva Motor Show and production started in late August of that year. The Renegade was the smallest vehicle currently marketed by Jeep, until the arrival of the Avenger. It slots between the Avenger and the Compass. It is based on the FCA Small Wide 4×4 platform which is also shared with other FCA models, including from Fiat and Alfa Romeo brands.
The Renegade came standard with front-wheel drive, with optional four-wheel drive systems Active Drive I and Active Drive Low, both of which are paired with Jeep's Selec-Terrain System.
Overview
The Renegade is the first Jeep product to be produced exclusively outside of North America and has been sold in the North American, European, Brazilian, South African, Australian, Japanese and Chinese markets. The vehicle is built in Melfi, Italy with the designation BU/520, alongside the related Fiat 500X; Goiana, Brazil with the designation B1 (alongside Jeep Compass and Fiat Toro); and in Guangzhou, China codenamed BQ.
Standard Renegade models come with front-wheel drive, with four-wheel drive available on Sport, Latitude and Limited trims. In the US, the lineup consists of Sport, Latitude and Limited trims, all of which come with a choice of front- and four-wheel drive, as well as the Trailhawk trim, which is 4WD only.
The Renegade has an available My Sky dual-panel removable roof. The My Sky can be either retracted like a standard sunroof or removed completely for a more open-air experience, similar to that of the Jeep Wrangler.

I was told it was the thermostat which they replaced. I didn't take it back to Jeep until May,2024 due to it was only shifting hard sometimes and I figured they would not do anything. I took the car in due to hard shift and tire pressure light being on a day after it came on. Jeep fixed, a day later it came back, Jeep fixed. When I got home, TP light on again. Now they tell me the shifting is a different problem because the computer says DTC code went off a month ago saying there was a problem (and claim I have to bring in within a week). No warning lights or messages other than the tire pressure light which is still being fixed. Also see SB#21-025-19

- Summary: Car randomly stalls in park, when reversing, when in drive but brake is being applied, or when first accelerating after putting into drive. Several times now it has stalled when I'm at stop lights. One time it stalled after just tapping the brake while approaching a stop light. That was terrifying because the car was still in motion. Also, car randomly jerks hard when shifting gears. Recently, car doesn't want to shift while accelerating up hills, and RPM's can get up to 4.5 or 5. No engine light or other warnings lights ever come on. I have brought it to my mechanic two times now about the hard shifting and stalling.Have another appointment this week. They can't figure out what's causing it. Nor can they replicate the problem. This can happen a few times a day, then go weeks without an issue. I've seen the same problems from dozens of people on Jeep forums for 2015 -2017 models. No one had a solution, while seemingly getting brushed off by the dealerships about it.

STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-09-08
- VIN: ZACCJABT4FP
- Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS
- Summary: My vehicle recently started showing warning/service lights for no reason; airbag, power steering, park lights, coolant, check engine etc. My engine would also keeps running even after removing the keys.. My battery would also be dead the next day (new battery) if battery is not disconnected . Power door locks , also stops working via fob and manual. While driving the power steering would also stops working (very dangerous) as this will prevent you from turning and can cause collision. Engine will start but dies after 5 seconds. I have looked online in jeep forums and this problems appears to be related to ignition switch. The problems the car is having is very identical to those renegade owners posted on line. Other renegade owners got the ignition switch replaced and fixed the problem. As of now, there is no recall for this particular issue but should be investigated. I will be taking my car for recalls and also to include this problem to get fixed. This is a safety matter as it could cause fatality.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-05-10
- VIN: ZACCJBCT5FP

I’m not very car savvy thought it was me!! I almost got clobbered when I pulled out onto a very busy street and I’m not very smart I guess just started it AGAIN I realized there was a problem. I’m very good at oil changes and maintenance my people alerted me to the excessive oil use. I checked it often and they always added oil. between changes. Long story short it just stopped! no Start had it towed fixed $2,592. made it home wouldn’t start towed again next morning fixed it again a valve actuator $1,740 for the part again it failed in 30 miles towed again the part was shipped wrong apparently shipped wet no idea what that means dealer Roberson will warranty the part but it’s sitting there broken again and I’m not sure if they fix it again if it will be dependable? It scares me I don’t know what to do! Fix it a third time? Quickly sell it? I can’t do that! I had to buy another another car I couldn’t afford it’s just sitting there can you help me? I’d be so grateful if you could. I read about the problems with this motor and law suits I can’t qualify for because of their time limits I’m just at the end of my rope with this car that I loved. Now I’m afraid of it. I just don’t know what to do. Thank you so much for listening. Elizabeth Pfeifer Sorry my pictures aren’t the best I’m not good at online either! FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-05-31
- VIN: ZACCJABT5FP
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: Jeep Renegade 2015 . THE CAP LESS FUELSYSTEM. Can't physically put gas nozzle into the tank. I even tried the plastic funnel that comes with the jeep and that won't go in either. There are 3 plastic tabs that must be pushed in by the nozzle before the metal flap will release and allow the pump in. Two smaller ones in the upper left/right and one large one on the bottom. Sometimes these can get gummed(or in my case were kinda defective straight from the factory). In 2019 Renegade redesign the gas tank differently so I'm guessing they know about this issue. There are forum on top of forums about this problem. We really need a recall on this. Eventually, I have to exchange my cap less fuel system since I am dreading every trip to a gas station. I can't drive my car if I can't put gas in it.

The failure mileage was approximately 106,000.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-07-07
- VIN: ZACCJABT1FP
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: My car turns off at random times while driving. This has happened while going down the highway at high speeds and while turning left into a business and everything in between. I am usually able to start the car after waiting five minutes or so and it may or may not turn off again before I reach my destination. I have taken it to the dealership 3 times for this issue with no resolve. The first time I took my car to the dealership was July 14th, 2021 and they determined it was the battery, that did not solve the issue. On December 29, 2022 I took the vehicle to the dealership and on January 09, 2023 I picked it up. They told me my battery cable was loose, that was not the issue. On January 24 I took it back and on February 7, 2023 I picked it up. The dealership replaced the wiring harness, but the issue still remains. Driving down the road at any speed and having the car shut off is a safety risk to everyone around. When my daughter was turning left into a business she was terrified and blocking traffic going both directions and had to be pushed out of the road. While driving down the road I constantly am looking for a plan of action, a place that I can coast off the road if my car dies. The dealership has not been able to recreate this problem. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone other than the dealership. 60% of the time all of the warning lamps are on, and the other part of the time just the check engine light and battery lamp are on, but this is not an indication of if the car will safely get me to my destination without turning off. Sometimes it does and sometimes it does not. I am not the only one who has suffered this issue. Numerous similar incidents can be found from other people on various websites.
2015 Jeep Renegade recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 4 recalls for different components of the 2015 Jeep Renegade.

The trailer hitch assembly may have been attached with only a single fastener per side, not three per side as required.
- Consequence: Without the proper amount of fasteners, the trailer hitch assembly may separate from the vehicle, and any towed vehicle may no longer be properly connected, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will install two additional fasteners per side, free of charge. The recall began on October 13, 2016. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is S62.

The transmission sensor clusters may have insufficient crimps in the transmission wire harness, and as a result, the transmission may unexpectedly shift to neutral. On August 29, 2016 Chrysler added the 2016 Fiat 500X vehicles to this recall.
- Consequence: If the vehicle unexpectedly shifts to neutral, there is an increased risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, dealers will reprogram the Powertrain Control Module and the Transmission Control Module and if necessary replace the transaxle range sensor wire harness, free of charge. The recall began on November 7, 2016. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is S55.

The affected spacers may have improper or incomplete welds on the top flange on the rear control arm bracket, that can allow the rear axle to shift while driving.
- Consequence: If the axle moves there could be an increased risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Daystar will notify owners, and direct them to repair shops to have the brackets inspected and replaced as needed, free of charge. The recall began on March 11, 2016. - Manufacturer: Chrysler (FCA US LLC)
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:CYBERSECURITY
- Summary: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2015 Jeep Renegade vehicles manufactured September 18, 2014, to June 25, 2015. - Consequence: Exploitation of the software vulnerability may result in unauthorized remote modification and control of certain vehicle systems, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Chrysler will notify and mail affected owners a USB drive that includes a software update that eliminates the vulnerability, free of charge. Optionally, owners may download the update to their own USB drive from http://www.driveuconnect.com/software-update/ or take their vehicle to a Chrysler dealer for immediate installation. In an effort to mitigate the effects of this security vulnerability, Chrysler has had the wireless service provider close the open cellular connection to the vehicle that provided unauthorized access to the vehicle network. This measure may not have been implemented on all vehicles and does not address access by other means that will be remedied by the software update. The recall began on September 30, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is R45.

Update 12/21/2016: Hi there! Just wanted to share my experience with the Renegade so far. I'm still absolutely thrilled with it! I purchased it new in May 2016 and it now has 6000 miles on it. The only issue I've had was a loose wire to a running light, which caused an intermittent dash warning over 6 months of driving. But I took it to the dealer yesterday and they fixed it - no more warnings on the drive home! The Renegade has been my daily driver and I'm happy to report that it has exceeded both the manufacturer's estimate and my own expectations for fuel efficiency. In mixed driving, it reliably gets about 33 mpg, and on a recent strictly highway trip, it averaged an impressive 43 mpg! Even when we crawled home in bumper-to-bumper Los Angeles traffic on the return trip, it still averaged 39 mpg for the round trip! I was initially concerned that I would be spending more on gas driving the Renegade instead of the VW Beetle it replaced, but that hasn't been the case at all. My husband is also a big fan of the Renegade - he loves that it can Fast forward about 18 months, I decided to look up the Renegade online out of curiosity to check reviews. To my surprise, I found huge manufacturer and dealer incentives on the remaining 2015s in stock. I thought to myself, 'Oh my, I can get a brand new Jeep (actually a Fiat) for about the same price I paid for a new 2001 VW Beetle years ago!' Another big plus for me was the availability of a manual transmission. I was sorely tempted at this point despite the VW's reliability, and headed for the Jeep dealer. Let me assure you that going to an American car dealer was quite a step for me! The first dealer did not have what I was looking for, but the second dealer did. I had been doing all the shopping and research, and was quite sure we were going home with the Renegade, so I asked my husband to come along to look at the Renegade and drive the VW home. He was amazed at the good value and quality of the Renegade! The Renegade continues to please with 30+mpg in combined driving, and the car is very willing to move. The engine and manual transmission are smooth! It is very quiet and roomy inside, good sized adults will fit in the back seat, and it is simply easy to deal with. It actually is a utility vehicle. It does not rattle or have wind noise. It has some nice touches inside like soft lighting, the seats are comfortable, and I'm really enjoying the SiriusXM radio trial. I am thrilled to not have to drive a 50 mile round trip for service since I have two Jeep dealers close by. I have not owned the vehicle long enough to comment on durability, but I believe the build quality is good. A family member who worked at a high level job for another car manufacturer looked at it and was impressed by the quality. At this point, I am very satisfied with the Renegade. I keep my vehicles for a long time, drive them carefully, and have them maintained on schedule. I expect that this vehicle will last.

I had never considered owning a domestic vehicle until I came across the Renegade. After taking it for a test ride, I was sold. In the past 11 years, I have owned 2 Hondas, 1 Toyota, and 1 VW, all brand new. Living in the Northeast, I needed a vehicle that could handle the nasty winter commute and occasional camping trips, so I was looking for an AWD/4x4 with good fuel mileage and mild off-road capability. Only a few small SUVs fit the bill, and my choices were between the Subaru XV Crosstrek and the Jeep Renegade. While I won't say much about the Subaru, I will say that it was under-powered and lacked details compared to the Renegade. The Renegade's interior is impressive, with illuminated cup holders and center console, comfortable and supportive seats, and great forward visibility. The instrument panel with built-in LCD screen is very informative with an intuitive layout, and the infotainment system with touch screen is easy to navigate while driving. I love how the car can stream music from my phone via Bluetooth without me having to touch it, and the sound quality is impressive for an entry-level vehicle. The exterior design is also impressive, with plenty of design details and good paint quality. The engine is relatively quiet for a domestic vehicle, and it has plenty of power to pass other vehicles on the interstate. The only let-down is the transmission. There is a slight lag and hesitation in gear change under spirited acceleration, but it's smooth enough and tolerable. The Renegade's performance is agile and the steering is accurate and nicely weighed, although it lacks the feedback of a sport sedan or luxury crossover. Body-roll under spirited driving is well controlled, especially considering it's a JEEP! I have not yet driven in snow, but I did drive it off the dealership lot in pouring rain. I got the chance to push it a little bit through some back roads in heavy rain. Not once did I feel the traction control or ABS kick in, and the vehicle didn't slide during sharp turns. The body panels did not make any rattling noise on rough road surfaces. In the past 300 miles, I was able to achieve an average of 27 miles per gallon. I was getting 30mpg on the interstate around 65mph. I would expect gas mileage to slightly improve as the engine breaks in. Overall, I am very impressed with how Jeep has come out with such a great product. It's a perfect blend of ruggedness, performance, comfort, and style. Let's face it, we all want a Wrangler at some point in life but can't justify the fuel efficiency, comfort, or practicality for everyday commute. And Jeep has finally given us a perfect compromise. Trade-in value and reliability are the only two concerns I have at this point, and only time will tell.

Hey there! It looks like this isn't your Honda CRV, but I'm glad to hear you're enjoying your new Renegade TH! I totally agree that good ideas should be shared and I'm happy to hear that you're enjoying the differences between the Renegade and the CRV. I can definitely understand your concerns about the driver seat and rear view camera, and I think it would be great if Jeep could take inspiration from the Buick Regal seat and the CRV's camera angles. It's also a great idea to have more storage nooks and a cable net in the back, and I agree that having a woman on the interior design team could bring some fresh perspectives. I'm glad to hear you love the full spare tire! As for the navigation, it sounds like there are some improvements that could be made, such as fixing the road map and Bluetooth connectivity. And I totally agree that this is a Jeep, not a Porsche, so the lack of pickup in speed isn't a huge concern. Overall, I think the seat fix should be a top priority for Jeep, but the other suggestions are definitely worth considering. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I did my research before purchasing and found out a lot of things that the salesman was not aware of due to the newness of the product. However, I was well-informed. I absolutely love driving it and people often admire it. I actually have the 2.4L 9 speed auto 4x4 Latitude, but it was not listed as an option in the drop-down menu. Therefore, I selected the limited option. I was initially interested in the trailhawk, but after reading reviews about the interior noise, rough ride, and gas mileage, I decided to go with the latitude. The design is fantastic both inside and out, and the interior is spacious and convenient for a small SUV. I chose the sand color and it looks even better in person than it did on the website.

Let me start by saying that if you're looking for a Wrangler specifically for off-roading, then that's what you should buy. However, if you're willing to sacrifice some off-roading ability for a more comfortable ride, then consider saving up for a Cherokee Trailhawk instead. My wife has one and it's superior to my Renegade in every way except for the price. That being said, the Renegade is a great daily driver that can handle light off-roading and two-tracking. It's not comparable to the bigger Jeeps, but it's the best option under 30 grand. The car is nimble on turns, but not particularly fast and the gas mileage isn't great. However, it handles well in inclement weather, including Michigan snow, so I think it's a fair trade-off. The front seats are roomy enough for two big guys, but the backseat is small. Overall, the Renegade is definitely worth considering, and any negatives can be said for every other mini crossover in the segment. If you're an outdoorsy person on a budget, the Renegade might just be the perfect car for you.

The car has had a few issues, including some trouble with the transmission and brakes. However, the dealership has been very helpful in providing loaner cars and making repairs. While there have been some delays, the team has been working hard to get everything fixed. We are currently pursuing the lemon law, but remain optimistic that a resolution can be reached. Thank you for your understanding and support throughout this process.

The Jeep Renegade has had some issues with its brakes and transmission, as well as some other minor problems. It is recommended to wait until these issues are resolved before purchasing the vehicle. It is important to note that these issues are not unique to this particular vehicle, and can be found in other models as well. It is important to do thorough research before making a purchase to ensure that the vehicle meets your needs and expectations.

I have owned the Jeep for three weeks and it has already accumulated 1000 miles. However, it is currently in the shop due to stalling and hesitating issues. The vehicle is equipped with a 2.4 motor and a 9-speed transmission.

We purchased the Renegade approximately 4 months ago. When the service passive entrance system warning memo came on with only 2400 miles on the vehicle, I contacted the dealership to inquire why the light would come on so early. We set up an appointment to have the system checked and were told that there was an update available. The techs ran the update and informed us that there were a few more updates available. We agreed to leave the vehicle for at least 4 more hours. Upon completion of the updates, the dealer contacted us to say the vehicle was ready. However, upon arriving home, the service passive entrance system warning memo came on again. We contacted the dealer who wanted the vehicle the next day. After checking the system, we were told that Chrysler reps instructed the dealership to replace a dash module. We left and once again, within minutes, the warning memo came on. We returned the vehicle to the dealer for the passive entrance system repair and the vehicle was tied up for most of the day for the repair. The next day, my wife was preparing to leave for a doctor's appointment when a warning memo appeared on the dash that the fob was not recognized. Fortunately, I left my fob which happened to work. I contacted the dealership and was told to bring the vehicle back in to be checked. We took the vehicle in and I suggested that they take both fobs and reprogram the system. However, we sat in the dealership for over 2 hours when the service writer informed us that the internet connection to Chrysler was down and that we needed to bring the vehicle back. On the following Monday, we made another appointment for the fob reprogram. Unfortunately, on Thursday of that week, my fob would not allow me to unlock the doors. It was not recognized by the system. On this past Friday, I took the vehicle in for the 5th time for the same issue. The Renegade has been in the dealer's possession for four months now, and we are still unsure of its reliability. Despite our concerns, the dealer refuses to consider the lemon law and insists on fixing the vehicle. However, we were offered a trade-in deal, which we were surprised to find out that the Renegade had lost 1/3 of its value in just 3000 miles. The dealer's solution is to keep swapping out parts until the vehicle is repaired, which is not a satisfactory solution for us. We have had several issues with the vehicle, including the dash changing from English to Metric and the emergency brake automatically setting. Although the dealership fixed the latter issue, we still have no faith in the vehicle. We hope to have the language issue resolved soon, but we are hesitant to spend more time at the dealership.During this time, our Renegade automatically set the emergency brake again for one day. However, this annoyance stopped on its own after that one day. Our confidence in this vehicle remains unchanged. We have since switched dealerships and the new dealership has successfully resolved all of our issues. The service writer took only 5 minutes to show us how to switch the computer from metric back to English. The new dealership spent about 3 hours thoroughly inspecting the entire vehicle, both physically and with the computer, and discovered and repaired many issues. Since that visit, we have had no issues. It is clear that the competence and expertise of the dealership made all the difference.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my Jeep Renegade. Unfortunately, I've been having some trouble with it. The parts needed for the repair are coming from overseas and it's been difficult to get the correct ones. I just wanted to give you a heads up in case you were considering purchasing one. I hope this helps!
