2016 Jeep Renegade problems
The Jeep Renegade is a subcompact crossover SUV produced by Stellantis under their Jeep marque. It was first shown to the public in March 2014 at the Geneva Motor Show and production started in late August of that year. The Renegade was the smallest vehicle currently marketed by Jeep, until the arrival of the Avenger. It slots between the Avenger and the Compass. It is based on the FCA Small Wide 4×4 platform which is also shared with other FCA models, including from Fiat and Alfa Romeo brands.
The Renegade came standard with front-wheel drive, with optional four-wheel drive systems Active Drive I and Active Drive Low, both of which are paired with Jeep's Selec-Terrain System.
Overview
The Renegade is the first Jeep product to be produced exclusively outside of North America and has been sold in the North American, European, Brazilian, South African, Australian, Japanese and Chinese markets. The vehicle is built in Melfi, Italy with the designation BU/520, alongside the related Fiat 500X; Goiana, Brazil with the designation B1 (alongside Jeep Compass and Fiat Toro); and in Guangzhou, China codenamed BQ.
Standard Renegade models come with front-wheel drive, with four-wheel drive available on Sport, Latitude and Limited trims. In the US, the lineup consists of Sport, Latitude and Limited trims, all of which come with a choice of front- and four-wheel drive, as well as the Trailhawk trim, which is 4WD only.
The Renegade has an available My Sky dual-panel removable roof. The My Sky can be either retracted like a standard sunroof or removed completely for a more open-air experience, similar to that of the Jeep Wrangler.

- Summary: While driving around I suddenly got an alert from the car that the driver's side back up light, left turn signal light/rear tail light was no longer functioning. I had to drive around without people driving behind me knowing of any intent to turn left, which was a safety issue. I took it to an independent mechanic who replaced the bulbs and everything was back to normal, but only for 30 minutes. The same thing happened again on my drive home and I had to turn around to take it back to the mechanic. Upon further investigation, the mechanic noted that the connector for the light was burnt out and thus, causing a faulty connection, that had nothing to do with the lights themselves, and that could fail at any time. In trying to get a new connector, the mechanic found that they are on backorder, presumably because this is an issue being faced by numerous jeep renegade owners. So now, even if I wanted to fix the problem, I can't, which again, is a safety issue.

- Summary: On more than one occasion, this car has stalled or stopped, leaving me coasting to the side of the road in active traffic. I was going about 30-35 mph. It has had oil consumption problems since 2021 when I purchased it. It was presented to me at point of sale as gas consumption...it wasn't getting good mileage and would need a tune up. Also misrepresented as having a spare and it did not. On 4 Aug 2024 I completed the most recent oil consumption test and it failed. Leith Jeep refused to provide me with paperwork and said "no charge." But it needed another quart of oil which I added. Before the test was completed it needed a quart of oil. I have all records and will attach here if possible or email under separate emails. Not sure how many doc can be attached. I had recall repairs made. My car is part of the class action lawsuit but is unsafe. I am told to correct I need a new engine which will cost me out of pocket $11,000.00 due to no longer under warranty. But it has had this problem since I bought it and prior, an oil consumption test was done by the dealer in possession then.

At this point, if I had a flat tire, I will not be able to replace it, as I am not able to remove the lug nuts. Ticket 86109919 was opened with Jeep.com on May 8th, 2023. Customer Service has advised that they will not cover the cost of replacing these lug nuts, even if it's not a product that falls under the 'wear and tear' category. Please help in making this a product to be recalled and repaired at FCA's expense.

I began to observe, and found out that the gearbox does this when it is downshifted from 5th to 4th gear. of course I didn't hit the car in front several times. the presence of such errors as u0402 and C2502. i went to the dealer but the dealer had never heard of this and only did a software update on the transmission and engine. but it didn't help, they changed the oil in the transmission, no result either, they gave me a document and said that the reason was the electricity. after searching the entire Internet, I saw that Cherokee had such a phantom acceleration for 14-15 years. and really the problem is inside the transmission. i want to fix this problem because the dealer doesn't know what to do.

- Summary: My 2016 Jeep Renegade Sport 4WD 2.4L (~87K mileage) never has given me any major issues or shown symptoms of any need for service attention recently. It has been upkept with regular oil changes and servicing as needed. I recently went on vacation and had the vehicle parked for a week and upon returning and trying to turn the vehicle on it would not start. It was not the battery as that was recently changed and the vehicle tried very hard to crank, but nothing was successful on its own we even tried charging the battery and jumping it with our other car. I had AAA finally come and they were able to start it, but as soon as you put it in "drive" to move it the engine would flood and the car would shut off. As the car would run, white smoke would flow out of the tailpipe horribly as well. I had it towed to the AAA car center since they are around the corner and they are stating the head gasket is blown and the engine will need replacement. There was no indication from the vehicle that it needed a oil change or that oil was low. There was no symptoms I encountered prior to all of this happening. It was advised NOT to have the engine machined to fix the gasket due to the mileage and age of the vehicle. I am in shock that this came out of nowhere. Again, I drove the car a few days before leaving it parked in a safe location and it's mainly driven by me and there was absolutely no indication something was even remotely wrong.

- Summary: Daystar Products International, Inc. (Daystar) is recalling certain aftermarket replacement rear control arm brackets included in Daystar's 2015-2016 Jeep Renegade 1.5" spacer kit, part KJ09168BK, shipped from Daystar to distributors between October 27, 2015 and November 5, 2015. The affected spacers may have improper or incomplete welds on the top flange on the rear control arm bracket, that can allow the rear axle to shift while driving.
- Consequence: If the axle moves there could be an increased risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Daystar will notify owners, and direct them to repair shops to have the brackets inspected and replaced as needed, free of charge. The recall began on March 11, 2016. Congratulations on your new Jeep Renegade! It sounds like you made an excellent choice. The Jeep Renegade has everything you need in an SUV, and it's perfect for casual use around town and at the beach. It's comfortable, easy to get in and out of, and has lots of room for a smaller SUV. The Jeep symbol throughout the vehicle is a nice touch, and it adds to the overall appeal of the car. If you're looking for something fun, easy to drive, and dependable, then the Jeep Renegade is definitely worth considering. Two thumbs up indeed!

I've been reading the reviews and it seems like some people may not have read the sticker or done their research. It's important to note that the Renegade is a small Jeep, not a Cherokee or a Wrangler. Personally, I have the loaded Latitude and my only complaint is that I didn't get the removable roof. Living in central Wisconsin, I have to deal with snow, ice, trails, and mud, but my Renegade handles it all with ease. While there is some body tilt, which is typical of a Jeep, I have no problems with expressway on and off ramps, nor do I lack confidence in passing. It's worth noting that I have a Dodge Durango R/T, which is big and fast, but I didn't buy a big and fast Jeep. I bought a fully capable Renegade, which has exceeded all of my expectations as a dependable and safe Wisconsin driver. So, to anyone who complains that this vehicle isn't what they expected, I would encourage them to realize that it is a 4X4 Jeep and to appreciate it for what it is. I would highly recommend this vehicle to anyone who wants quality, dependable, and fun transportation.

I'm really happy with my Jeep! The attention to detail is impressive, and when I'm driving down the road, it feels like a unique ride. The tail lights are bright and stick out, which gives me reassurance that I won't be rear-ended. I'm pleasantly surprised by how quiet the Latitude is, and it handles very well. I'm looking forward to driving it this winter. If I had to point out any downsides, I would say that the transmission takes a few seconds too long to go into first, and the headrest is a bit too far forward for my liking.

When I was deciding between the Renegade and a Subaru, I found that the Subaru's clutch required me to be right on top of the steering wheel due to my short legs (I'm only 5'2Attaching my phone to a car vent holder in the center panel and attaching a charger is something I'm used to, but unfortunately, the center vents in the Renegade are recessed in such a way that the charger doesn't fit. I'll have to look for a new phone holder that extends out farther than my current one. The backseat doesn't have cupholders, which was almost a deal breaker for us since I have kids and we are often eating on the run. However, I did find some 'Faguan' cupholders that attach to the headrests and are able to hold even the giant drinks from McDonald's, so I am hopeful this will solve the problem. I had expected more USB/charging ports, especially with kids in the back seat who are always fighting to charge their technology - especially on road trips. To solve this problem, I had to buy a few extra-long cords and splitters. Speaking of road trips, the size of the trunk might make it difficult. Everyday grocery shopping will be fine, and if I am hauling something without passengers in the back, there is plenty of room if the seats are down. But otherwise, I find the trunk small and wish it were another foot deeper. I may end up fudging a shelf as I've seen some people do online because there is plenty of height storage - just not floor storage. The trunk claims to already be 'two level' where first there is a pump/sealant system rather than a spare tire in a styrofoam holder, then a top carpet, then maybe 4-5' or so (I didn't measure so that's a guess) and then the floorboard. You can pull the floorboard out and place it down right on the carpet and eliminate that smaller 4'5' storage space if you wish. I personally did not feel comfortable with not having a spare tire, so I paid the extra $360 for a spare tire, jack, and tools which, when I receive it, will end up replacing the space where the pump and styrofoam holder are.The dealer informed me that they are uncertain whether the new item will fit entirely within the same space as the styrofoam holder or if it will take up the 4'5

The Jeep Renegade has everything you need in an SUV, and it's perfect for casual use around town and at the beach. It's comfortable, easy to get in and out of, and has lots of room for a smaller SUV. The Jeep symbol throughout the vehicle is a nice touch, and it adds to the overall appeal of the car. If you're looking for something fun, easy to drive, and dependable, then the Jeep Renegade is definitely worth considering. Two thumbs up indeed!

If you're looking for something more reliable than an expensive lawn decoration, I suggest finding an alternative. This vehicle seems to have a lot of issues, such as the 4x4 light coming on when stuck in snow, the computer malfunctioning every other week, and not being able to shift out of park. Every light on the dashboard comes on, indicating that everything needs servicing. Overall, it seems like a complete waste of money and a pile of scrap metal.

Hello! I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share my experience with my vehicle that I purchased from Tennessee Franklin Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram in September. Unfortunately, I have had to bring it in for repairs a few times and have had some issues with the customer service. I have noticed some noises during shifting of gears, but was told that they are 'normal' for this vehicle and so they refused to look into a solution for this. Additionally, the Uconnect unit has been replaced after previous botched attempts from service, the 911 and assist buttons work intermittently, the mph and outside temperature changes to metric on its own, and the back up camera doesn't always work. I have tried to contact the owner several times, but have not heard back. I did hear from the General Manager once when he first addressed the issues, however as the issues continue I haven't been successful in getting a response from this dealership. I would really appreciate some help with these issues and hope we can work together to find a solution. Thank you for your time and consideration.

It seems like there is room for improvement in terms of the compartments inside, but what really stood out to me was the noise from the wind. It's hard to believe that a car with such a problem was allowed on the road. Unfortunately, the backseat is not suitable for a car seat. Overall, I have had a negative experience with this car.

I upgraded to the Trailhawk edition, but unfortunately, this jeep did not meet my expectations. It is quite loud, slow, and basic, which can be a bit of a letdown. Although the Renegades come with great technology and fun features like the beat by dre speakers and detailed electronics, it's hard to enjoy them because of the rattling noise that the car makes. Even the dealership I bought it from said that the rattling and overall loudness of the car in idle and in motion is to be expected when you own a jeep. If you're someone who needs to travel on the freeway or pass other cars frequently, this may not be the car for you. It is sluggish and sounds like it is going to explode when you are going over any hill/pass and need to go over 65mph. However, I did enjoy driving this car off-road as it handled well. It may not have as much clearance in dips and rocks, but it was still enjoyable and fun. I have had this car for 2 seasons in the snow and it handles really well. My biggest complaint is that in the 2 years I have owned this vehicle, I have taken it in several times for service warnings, not routine maintenance. Unfortunately, every time it isn't just a day to find and fix the problem. Since I only have the basic warranty, I will be trading this car in before my warranty is up. I do think it is important to point out that my husband is a jeep guy, and we have owned several jeeps. This is the first jeep we have bought and been unsatisfied with. Additionally, this is the first jeep in which my husband can't change the oil at home because of all the undercarriage and scrape plate removal you have to take off to be able to just do the simple job. (FIAT changes?!)
